BK Jani is one of the best restaurants in every way possible. We had a birthday party of 20 people and not only was the food absolutely amazing, the staff was extremely helpful and attentive. The owner was wonderful to work with - very generous and kind. We ordered the BK Jani burger (this will 100% be the best burger you've ever had), fried chicken sandwich, seehk kabab (you NEED to order this), lamp chops, and chicken tikka. The ultimate in hipster conceit? 15 dollars for a burger? 18 dollars for four piece lamp chops? Yes the food is tasty. Delicious even. But this hole in the wall, charges high-end prices (at least for the neighborhood), without any of the "luxuries" of a restaurant: No bathroom. Communal seating only, at picnic tables. No utensils (forced to eat chopped veg with sauce with fingers). Paper plates. I don't mind any of the above. I like joints and hole-in-the-walls. But this ain't no joint. This place was totally out of my way but I couldn't resist. Especially after watching a promotional video on Facebook about how juicy the burgers were. Food: Menu is pretty short and to the point. (It's on the wall FYI, just look up before you go and ask for a menu.. like I did). Burger: juicy for sure. The overpowering taste in the burger comes from the sauce used.. sort of a spicy/minty taste. I guess that's the Pakistani twist on it. Lamb chops: the meat is so amazingly tender. However, it's seasoned so heavily that biting into the meat leaves a whole lot of seasoning all over your lips. I would've preferred a tad bit less seasoning. But the taste was on point besides that. I think my friend has a side of veggies but I forgot to pay attention to the taste there. The French fries on the other hand, those were good. As usual. :) Service: Super friendly guy (owner?). My friend was pretty amazed by his knowledge on meats and cutting techniques. (Maybe not as great as the famous #SaltBae... cmon you must know who that is) Lol! I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this place yet. I honestly wish I lived closer to this place just so I could go here more often. I've only been here once, not too long after it opened. As NY/NJ transplants now living a few states away, when our friends in NY started buzzing about this place on social media, I knew I wanted to check it out. On one of our trips back home, we stopped by here on our way back and I'm so very glad that we did. We got the burger, seekh kababs, and lamb chops. Literally everything was perfection. Even if they didn't tell you that they source the highest quality meat, you'd be able to taste it in the first bite. Everything was expertly seasoned and the seekh kababs were my favorite. Sibte is the owner, chef, and visionary behind it all and it was a pleasure to meet the man himself. The kababs reminded me of my favorite kabab joints in London and it made me unspeakably pleased to find something even remotely comparable stateside. I never heard of this place before I decided to try it one night. I got the burger, fries and lamb chops. Everything was delicious and so flavorful including the fries that I just expected to be plain. The food doesn't need any sauces but it came with a green and white one that were so yummy. Even the ketchup is seasoned. I was curious to see how many stars they had on Yelp and wasn't surprised to see 4.5. I was however surprised to see the most recent bad reviews from people that have nothing to do with the quality of the food. "Food is delicious but overpriced"- I thought for the quality it was priced appropriately. "Bad service" - it's a fast casual place..you want upscale service go to the river cafe...you literally order at the counter and your food is brought to you on paper plates. "My mother, aunt, sister, cousin blah ah ah could do it better"- well if they do it so well why the hell are you even eating out??! Well Bourdie, ol' boy, go down to BK and you'll know what you missed out on. Despite these provisos: no rest-room, no utensils, who tf cares? the best Paki grilled meats in town, by far. I dole out 5 star reviews sparingly so that when I do award one people know that I am serious. Not only will I readily admit that it was "the best burger of my life", I'm going to admit in the same sentence that I'd come back even if it wasn't. Sibte, the owner, is one of the friendliest people I've ever met. Aside from being a culinary genius, he tries to remember every person that comes into his restaurant. I ordered the burger to go but after chatting with him for a bit, I took the meal there and kept hanging out. It felt much more like stopping by a friend's place for lunch than grabbing take-out. The food has a very well portioned melange of spices that gives everything a warm kick. The burger and the lamb were two of the greatest meats I've ever had: very tender and mildly smokey. This place really strives for simplicity and I think that says a lot because good ingredients don't need dressing up. No chipotle mayo here. Payment is through Venmo or Cash which I thought was pretty cool (and maybe Chase Quickpay?). They also don't use utensils (who needs 'em) but have plenty of wet naps. Don't let this discourage you. It's a great place to bring a friend, or a date, or an anyone really. This is a great Pakistani restaurant that serves Pakistani food with an American twist. It is more like a burger joint than your typical Pakistani food. Their burgers and fries are legendary. This is a "hole in the wall" spot, has a relaxed vibe with fancy meats served on non pretentious disposable plates. No utensils are given...for the meats that's fine but for tiny roasted vegetables a fork would've helped. Amazing beef tikka, quite possibly the best I've ever had. Bk Jani burger was really good but was overshadowed by that amount of green mint chutney and a mediocre bun, but the meat itself was grilled perfectly. The grilled lamb chops were amazing and grilled perfectly again. Would definitely return for the chops, to try the wings and get their beef tikka again. BK Jani is everything you could hope for and more. It's all you can ask for on what is otherwise a cruel earth. It's the solution to the problems you didn't know you had, and it's the antidote to the illness you didn't know you suffered from until it healed you for those brief moments when your teeth were sinking into its perfectly cooked morsels of goodness. I came here hoping for a solid halal burger. This is so much more than that. I don't think I'm capable of feeling anything other than pure happiness when I'm here. I took my cousin here. I came here for dinner with a friend a couple weeks ago and was blown away. The man who took my order (possibly the owner?) noticed that I was opting for meatless dishes and asked if I was a vegetarian. When I said yes he told me that he was making a new, off the menu veggie dish in the back and asked if I would be interested in having that instead. Of course! It was a spinach and potato dish, served with bread for dipping. Very spicy and delicious, he even offered me more! I will definitely be back to try their other dishes. As a halalie- I'm always searching for the best tasting burger that I can get my hands on. This is, by FAR, the best burger I've ever had in my entire life. You barely have to bite down before the meat literally starts to melt in your mouth- like magic. The bun is perfectly toasted- not soggy, with chutney, peppers and a flavor that will knock your hipster socks off. The seekh kabobs are so succulent, so delicious, that your eyes will start to water- or maybe that was from the spicy mint chutney (also amazing). The rack of lamb was equally delicious and a completely different flavor profile from the beef! The winner of the show has to be the delicious lime soda that is made in house- for "VIP" guests only. We lucked out and had a refreshing end to the most fantastic meal I've ever had. The decor is classic Brooklyn; huge murals, by local artists, adorn the inside of a small former pizza joint that is lined with a few picnic tables. The owner/ chef/ mastermind behind the works is as great of a conversationalist as he is a creator of Pakistani delicacies. If halal food is what you seek and a burger is what you crave, look no further because you will not find a better place in NYC than BK Jani. **a side note- this place is cash only and quite pricey. The burger it self was nice. I did not miss cheese as the patty was real nice with some mint sauce (chantey). The burger size was medium to small but the meat quantity was ample. I would consider this burger to be on-par with some of the real good burgers. This restuarant would have received a perfect rating from my side except: The reason for this poor rating was the unfriendliness of the owner/host. I drove for 65 minutes to get there as I was visiting Long Island from Virginia. I am okay with bad neighborhood if the food is exceptional. I am also okay with mediocre food if the folks are friendly. I think the food quality was okay but about 30% over priced (medium sized burger at $12). The area was not clean and the restaurant was not clean enough to be on par with a MacDonalds (a pretty low bar for standards). I will begin this review by saying the food was good I really enjoyed all the distinct flavors. I had the chicken tikka with fries which was good; strong flavors and real spicy. I like the homemade ketchup too. My husband had the BK Jani burger but now it gets complicated... When I called to order the food a man (probably the owner) picks up so I could put in my pick up request. His tone was strong and aggressive and he proceeded to ask me how did I want the burger cooked. I said well done and his response was exactly "why would you want to kill my burger" .... Wait what.... Sir you asked me how do I want it cooked. I said that is how I like my burger meat cooked. Just know that the menu lists a side note to get it cooked how you want. He then says that they do not cook their meat that way but he will cook it and it will not come out well done. The west size of Maria Hernandez Park tends to be a mostly Honduran strip, but there's always been a touch of Muslim influence in between the pupusas and cole slaw. Now there's BK Jani, a Pakistani operation unlike any other in the city. The place is just a couple months old, but it's already covered with client testimonials about the quality of the food. There's much love for the ribs, but I went for the Pakistani burger. There was no one around when I arrived, although a couple people joined throughout the meal. The space is mostly picnic tables, painted white and minimally decorated. There is no bathroom. The menu itself is sparse and written on a series of pieces of paper - it appears to still be evolving. The Pakistani burger arrived more than 25 minutes later - these are cooked to order and it appears to take a fair amount of time. With really nice kick balanced out by a coolness of the raita, it really does manage to hit those spicier notes that you find in the western part of the subcontinent. I can't say I had anything like it over there, but the flavor mash-up seems right. What's mashed and doesn't work is the potatoes that accompany this dish, which are just pieces of boiled potatoes broken into pieces and sprinkled with salt and spice. There's a reason why a burger isn't usually accompanied by a plain potato - it's pretty tasteless. Great execution on the burger, slightly strange atmosphere and a need to improve the side options. So I saw a video about this place all over fb so my husband and I went to check it out. The owner was very friendly. We had a conversation about meat and how to cook it lol. I got the burger my husband got the Lamb chops. It was very delicious. My burger was so juicy and full of flavor. The lentil soup was good too but lacked salt. Also there's no spoons you have to drink it lol. No bathroom either. But that's ok. I'm glad we came without the kids. My kids are so picky and wouldn't of ate anything there. Plus it's spicy. Bk Jani is about setting the right and well deserved perception of Pakistani food and especially Pakistan. The owner takes food as a means to engage and relate to people rather than merely a business. He know what he is doing. Lamb chops are a must i dont like lamb and i wont have it any other way after having their chops. Bj jani beef burger is on point; burger with a Pakistani touch. Finding a good halal burger in NYC in my experience is rare. Most of the time, halal restaurants try to make their burgers quick, greasy and tasteless. After reading a positive NY Times article about this place, I knew I had to try for myself. My husband and I drove to this restaurant in the evening from sheepshead bay. It took us about 40 mins including traffic. The restaurant opens at 12pm and closes at 10pm. Now let me comment that this restaurant borders Williamsburg so it is a lively at night time if you're wondering if this is a decent neighborhood. When we arrived around 9:30pm on a Saturday night, the place was packed. Now this restaurant is limited with space and they don't take reservations, so come here early. When you enter the restaurant, you walk straight to the register to order what you want. The menu is on the upper right hand side of the wall and only serves limited items. They serve burger (just one), lamb chops, and seekh kebabs. For sides, masala French fries, sweet potato masala fries, and mixed veggies. We ordered the burgers, sweet potato fries and mixed veggies. You can see the kitchen behind the cash register and there must likely you will see the owner firing up the grill and making your meal. When the burgers came out, it looks like a simple humble burger (there is no cheese, just a slice of tomato and lettuce). The burger is juicy and exceptionally well seasoned and it was absolutely mind blowing. Never have I had such a juicy and flavorful burger. I highly recommend this place. You can see the owner passionately cooking the food and talking to customers to make sure they have a great experience. Note: They do not accept credit card. The food was dusted with a blend of spices, and if you can't have spicy food, like me, they offer a yogurt sauce. The lamb chops and kebabs were so tender, juicy and delicious. We hate vegetables but they were so expertly grilled that we ate every piece. You can tell that the owner takes pride with his food and cooks with passion, he even sat down with us to ask for our input. A juicy, tender burger sits inside on top of minty and tasty chutney that adds another layer of flavor and bright freshness to an already well seasoned patty. The roasted tomatoes adds a nice sweetness to the savory burger. You don't notice the lack of difference in the textures as everything goes so well together. Maybe only The Spotted Pig's charbroiled burger can match up to the Jani as far as New York goes. Lamb chops are also another highlight--aggressively seasoned and cooked just right.
