Found! I ventured to Bushwick with friends to Bk Jani. Expectations were high and they were exceeded. It is a Pakistani restaurant that simply takes the best cuts of meat from Pat LaFreida, seasons them correctly, and cooks them perfectly. That's it and the results are stunning. The place is almost cafeteria-like and the food is served on paper plates. There is really no need to order as the owner brings you what you should eat. There really is nothing but meat: Lamb chops, steak, and the hamburger! The seasoning is a mixture of mint and spices that stimulate the taste buds without overwhelming them. If you're not a frequent, you won't really know how this place works at first. We walked in and I didn't know if I should order in the front or if I should sit down and wait for my order to be taken. Then I asked to see their menu and the lady pointed at the wall as if I asked the most ridiculous question ever. The wall had the menu items listed but definitely not in its entirety, as there were things I saw people eating that weren't listed on the wall. So again, where is the menu???? I would only spend more money here if they gave me a full menu. The food SAVES this place and by a lot. Like no kidding, the food is so good I gave this place 4 stars despite the terrible customer service. We had the rack of lamb chops and my god they were the best lamb chops I've ever tasted. Then the BK Jani burger came out and I honestly thought it was one of the best burgers in New York City. I haven't been home to Pakistan in years and miss Lahori munchies so much! I've been dying to come here since I've heard all the hype. It was the best meal I've had in ages. The best burger ever. I normally can't have burgers without mayo, cheese and all that stuff but this burger was soooo amazing. I didn't miss anything and I felt like humming the whole time I was eating bc I was enjoying it so much. My fiancé and I split the lamb chops and an order of fries and they were also perfectly seasoned and amazing. We were stuffed but kept eating bc it was so good! For the folks complaining about the spice level, I mean seriously? What are you expecting? If you want bland burgers go to your usual burger joints. Bk Jani advertises to be authentic Pakistani cuisine and that is not bland, can't handle it then don't. Also the prices aren't cheap, but you're paying for quality and authenticity. Halal joints and carts are great, but Bk Jani is on a different level. But everything is spiced in the traditional Pakistani way, but as opposed to over cooking the food like most Pakistanis do, the chef here uses European techniques to ensure the meat is perfectly moist. Our experience started with pissing on the street outside since they dont have bathroom. More disappointment when the owner refused to let us wash hands in the sink which was right behind him. I just tried out the Lamb Shops, looks and taste delicious. I did try out the Lamb shops and it was slamming. The burgers look good and fresh the price was a Lil pricey but the quality of the meat is AAA. I wish I had more room to taste the burgers, but from what I saw it looks delicious This place is conveniently located on knickerbocker ave between Willoughby and Suydam St. You can take the L train to Jefferson St Station walk 2 blocks cross over the park and your there. Overpriced, meh food and terrible service. The staff are so miserable, they just want to make you miserable, too. The female at the cash register in particular was disgustingly rude. She acted like I was inconveniencing her by placing an order. I ordered, she said it would take 20 minutes, and I sat nearby, so I'd hear when it was called. B K Jani is really a place to be on NYC food map with their juicy burgers and spicy lamb chops. However the price does not agree with the food and place. It's neat small place tucked in Brooklyn facing a park. The place has nice hipster vibe to it. We ordered lamb chops, burger, chicken and kebab. The chops had a nice unique flavor to them were nicely done with juice, spice and texture all coming together in the mouth. The spices really appealed. #BurgerTruth So I recently had the opportunity to visit BK JANI and sample their menu. All I can say is that they have NO competition in terms of the best grilled burger in NY/NJ. The owner himself proclaims to be the resident grill master. His other cooks can put the patties on the grill but only he can take it off - to ensure that it meets his standards. We went from the burger onto the rack of lamb and I then was upset that I ate the entire burger and didn't leave more room for the best lamb chops I've ever tasted. We finished it off with beef seekh kabab which I am not traditionally a fan of because it's usually too heavy and over grilled or cooked. Not the case here as it wasn't too heavy or over cooked and dry. The go to spot in Brooklyn. Forget the overrated Yemeni Cafe and anything else. Go to BK and get a taste of what food should be. With great ingredients and great service - I highly recommend a visit. Note: If traveling with kids / family - no bathroom and no utensils provided. The food was delicious. The food deserves 10 stars. 20 stars, it was GOOD. I tried a little bit from everyone's plate, and honestly get whatever sounds good, it'll be fine. That being said, I came on a Saturday night at 6PM and they were out of about half the things on the menu. I kept picking out chicken burgers, and other chicken dishes, and they had no chicken in the entire restaurant. I don't get that, it's a Saturday night, how do run out of half the things on the menu? Especially when you don't close for several more hours. It was a little ridiculous. Saturday isn't a special occasion, it comes around every week, they should not have run out that fast. This place caught my eye after a recent review in NYTimes. I finally got the opportunity last night to take a drive into Bushwick. I think this place is branded as a "Pakistani-American" grill. You basically are offered: lamb chops, BK burger, sheekh kabob (which is minced ground beef/lamb with spices cooked on a skewer) and chicken. Everything is grilled, everything is in bold Indian spices. First off: seating is limited. Basically four picnic tables in the place. Place your order and grab a seat - it will be a while. My BK burger took approximately 45 minutes from the time I placed the order to my first bite. Need additional cooking staff - not simply a case of great food takes time. Also- tip is bring some plastic utensils with you as you may need them (this place does not offer any). The Food: Like I stated- I ordered their popular BK Jani burger cooked med-well. It was well-seasoned. Overall, good stuff. I am told from the owner that the meat is halal from Pat LaFreida (read: the really good stuff!). I did not care for the layer of mint chutney beneath the burger. I felt it was too bold and tried to over-shadow an excellent piece of meat. Next time sans chutney. Also, I didn't like the "smashed potatoes" sprinkled with red chili power that accompanied the burger. Not exactly finger food- but you don't have a choice when no eating utensils are offered. I did have an opportunity to sample the other famous dish - the lamb chops. Again, great quality meat with perhaps too much Indian spice-rub on it. For my birthday I was offered meals by friends and I asked for Bk jani 2 days in a row. The only negative thing I got is that their new location is farther away from us! Cries! The dining experience at BK Jani is missing a few key pieces (utensils and a bathroom to name two), but the food is on point. I loved: - the grilled lamb chops, seasoned generously and tender - buttery and flaky paratha with Chana masala -the supremely juicy BK burger - the mango Jani (watch out for its spicy kick though!
