I switched to a BJ's membership after years of being a Sam's Club member, simply because Sam's, an affiliate of Walmart, rolled back its DEI policies that supported diverse employees and suppliers through equity programs. BJ's is fine overall, but the produce section leaves a lot to be desired. That said, I really enjoy the app experience. Express Checkout in-club is easy to use, and the number of available coupons is a big improvement compared to Sam's. The savings actually feel accessible. Been here many times and only because it's close to home, I prefer Costco for the friendly employees and customer service also the meats and vegetable section a lot fresher than BJ's. I usually just run to BJ's for when I need only a couple of items because usually there's no lines and no customers and I can see why the EMPLOYEES AND CUSTOMER SERVICE ARE NONEXISTENT OR LAZY! About 80% of the time when I've needed assistance at the quick checkout, the employee who supposed to be working, would be chatting with other employees with their backs facing the registers and would not even know you need assistance. I assume management doesn't really care or they are just as lazy collecting a paycheck. Even though they just recently renovated a new entrance exit area, they need to rehire employees who actually care and the place may start making some money. Maybe since it was a rainy Sunday night and less NJers were out , but this store was empty as a barnyard after the horses were let out. In this instance I used the curbside pick up where the associate who came out with my items was very friendly and quick. I will actually try going inside next time. REVIEW OF IN-STORE PICKUP ORDER EXPERIENCE: Yesterday evening I went to the BJs in Edison to pick up an online order. This was my first time visiting this location off of Route 1. The curbside pick up parking spots are by one of the cart return areas (there's a bit of an incline, so be careful loading up your car). Make sure to have the BJs app installed on your phone so you can check in when you get there. Walk over to the customer service area and the person behind the single podium, they will be able to help you. I checked in using the app from my car, and got assistance fairly quickly once inside the store. An associate brought out my order in a cart with a printed receipt, and I walked out in less than 10 minutes. I would come back for in-store pick up again. read more

They really weren't interested in sending someone that could assist with getting the deli meat. Bj's is one of the many wholesale club chains around with a huge portfolio of products available in store as well as online. The experience shopping here will depend from individual to individual, and sometimes, can be quite frustrating as well. I've been here a few times and this store is huge with the isles marked clearly for better navigation. They have so many products that you could easily spend a good few hours here without noticing. They have everything from bakery, produce, electronics, frozen foods, clothing and many more. I thing that I did notice here was the lack of organic products. They have a limited amount and not many to choose from. If you're big on the organic side, you will be surely disappointed shopping here. Parking is available in abundance. All the Covid precautions are in place. During my time of visit, there were not a lot of people shopping but still, there was a huge line to checkout. Terrible customer service on all levels and find reasons to tell You that your coupon doesn't apply. I've never seen a store so intent on fighting with you over a $1.50 coupon even when you're right or the coupon maybe expired the day before. They would literally rather you leave and entire cart of product at the front and walk out then honor a $1.50 coupon that is 100% correct. Never seen anything like them in retail. I placed ans order on 12/16 around 9:30am for a telescope for my daughter. I was called at 4:30pm and told my payment had failed and if I wanted to try again. I asked the young lady to cancel the order and I would check with my financial institution to inquire why the payment failed. They advised they never received a request from BJs and to try again, which I did at 7:38. On 12/18 I called BJs and inquired about the order status. The young lady stated she saw the new order and the billing was fine and once the order processed it would ship. Today the 20th I check the app to see the tracking and the 2nd order is canceled and might I mention the 1st telescope was no longer available. So now 2 canceled orders. I caledl this morning, and was told I called back and advised I found the product somewhere else at 6:30pm on the 16th. Smh when I asked if the telescope was still in stock and could we get it processed I was advised I would get it between the 26th and the 30th. I asked for a supervisor and the supervisor told me the previous rep was wrong I wouldn't be able to get it until the 27th at the earliest and no expressed shipping was available. When my membership expires me and all of my friends and coworkers will be canceling there memberships to BJs. I am a business owner and I value customer service. I've have a few problems with BJs and have been nothing but patient but never had my issues resolved. I'm done! Costos or Sam's Club will be my new wholesale club. I went to the tire service to replace my spare with a used & the mechanic Jason informed me after already doing the service that he was able to patch up my old tire bc it was only leaking by the rim And I don't need another tire. Never mentioned anything about another new or used tire. Two days later as I'm driving to work this morning I see smoke on the side of the car, pull over and the tire like exploded and the rim is half way off!! After calling triple A and in the mist of me waiting 2hrs and 40min for them. i called Jason and he informed me again it's bc I need new tires And BJs does not offer used and he didn't have my tire size At the time. I'm like why not inform me with that info on Friday, You simply took my spare off and put the same bs tire back on? He said yes. How is that not a set up or dangerous?? Why not tell the customer I'm going to put your spare back on we don't sell used and we do not have your tire size you have to go somewhere else unfortunately? That's okay to mislead and lie to your customers. I was referred to BJs tires, I'm new to the area so that's the only reason I trusted going. I then called management and she began to tell me they are not allowed to touch tires that are not from BJ so he was doing me a favor by patching it. No, cut the bs. I didn't come there asking for a favor I asked for a tire. Bc he didn't have my size he thought the next best thing to do was fake patch it up then tell me they don't have my tire size. That's messed up! We joined BJs 10/27/21. Our membership should be honored until 10/27/22. We weren't planning on renewing it as we only went twice in one year. To my surprise they renewed our membership automatically. I went to customer service and the young girl with glasses, mask on with long braided hair was so unhelpful. She mumbled something under her nose about why. I ended up speaking to a manager who was just as unhelpful (short blonde woman). She then tells me how if I used the self check out it asked me if I wanna renew and I probably clicked on that. Now, WHY would I click on renewing when we were NOT planning on renewing. She goes into telling me how customers don't realize they are clicking on that option. HUH??? So, I cancel my renewal and ask her that my existing membership should still be good until 10/27. She tells me NO. So, they basically scammed me short 1 month. The manager didn't even offer a resolution, she just shrug her shoulders and said "Well, since you cancelled your renewal I can't even look you up in the system anymore". And she left it at that. Totally uncaring. But I also blame the young girl who didn't explain any of this prior. No wonder their store is always EMPTY!!!! You can go there on a Saturday afternoon and literally only 10 people in the store. I am surprised they are even in business at this point. And you ever wonder why BJs constantly sends people promotional price in the mail??? This is why. Cuz they have no customers. You ever see Costco have a promotional membership offer? Never. I am a Costco transplant since the AMEX switch. What I like about this place is the produce is pretty good and they have normal portions to buy- not just the "feed an army" size. They also have a regular deli counter, so you can basically do all your shopping here. Lots of lactaid milk, which I need. Spices and canned good, eggs, frozen section... all pretty standard. I saw fire works there last time. The prepared food here is the biggest disappointment and the thing I miss the most about Costco. They either don't have anything made, or what they have is not appetizing. You can't really pick up much here that just needs to be thrown in the oven to be ready for dinner like Costco offers. I do not like the roast chickens from here- they are small and come in a plastic bag. Also, there is no liquor here- which sucks. The cheese section is exciting at first, but gets boring after you've tried everything and nothing gets changed over. I have yet to enjoy anything with the BJ brand- Wellsley Farms. Much bigger fan of kirkland from Costco. The meat section is just ok. I've got some steaks here that I thought were overpriced, but tasted good. Once, with the coupon book, I bought an entire pork loin really cheap. As we were leaving I saw the sign that said the deli could cut it up for you. I wanted to play with my cleaver, so I said pass. Big mistake. Also a mistake to buy that much meat without a specific plan. That was months ago and I think there are still a few slices in my freezer. You really need to depend on the coupon book here to get the best deals. They usually have coupons for all your staples- paper towels and toilet paper. Overall, I miss Costco. read more

I requested additional cashiers and was told there were also "self service" lanes available!!!! REALLY???!!!! I mean REALLY????? All the while employees are standing around chatting with each other!!! What do customers pay a membership fee for??? I pay to have to use self service cash register??? Not a bad location! Able to find what I need, and I have never encountered long lines, not the ones that wrap around so long other shoppers are stuck trying to weave through them. Have several self-checkout lines, which I notice people use if they have a few items or a small cart, which really helps move things along. I hate being stuck behind someone with 100 plus items. I and my family have been going to Edison's BJ'S since they opened. Haven't the top owners/managers ever figured out why they are losing so much business?? The place used to be bustling non-stop. I am so disappointed because they keep moving everything around whereas you can't find the stuff you need and don't have the time to go looking. They discontinued a lot of products that I normally buy. Their prices have gotten much higher than Sam's or Costco's. Even pasta goes for $1.78 a lb. That's very expensive for a bulk discount store, whereas sale in ShopRite would be anywhere from 50 cents to 80 cents a lb. A lot of other things are priced very high too! Also, I always buy cranberry sauce year round. They claimed last year and this year that it is a "seasonal" item. This is just ridiculous! It's annoying that we have to use a quarter for the carts. The other BJ'S stopped this. They used to always have extra carts inside which was very convenient. They stopped that too! Our membership is expired this month and we are seriously debating whether or not to renew. read more

I've been shopping at BJ's for years, back when my kids were little BJ's was more geared for families and over those years my membership was paid for by the rewards I'd get back. But it is just now that I feel the need to write a review. With BJ's now having online digital coupons, I was unable to get into my account because it was using an old email address we no longer use and to call the corporate office, with a possible wait time of 60-90 minutes wasn't going to be an option. So I stopped at the front desk to see if they could help. The girl who was there was very helpful and took her time going over everything with me, she couldn't reset my card, but switch over the account to the secondary card I have which was my daughter's (I forgot that I put her on when she was away at school and there was a BJ's near there). The girl loaded the app on my phone and even told me to make sure I get my BJ's rewards. Now I can load the coupons on at home, no more cutting them out, wondering if they'll stay with that? read more

Bigger than the North Brunswick store with better merchandise collection. Recently, I found some good furniture at decent to very good prices. The furniture collection was largely for in-store purchase and not available online. Clipping paper coupons is a pain and wonder why, in this time and age, membership stores such as BJs continue with this practice. I have not had any issues with customer service though I do feel there is very little help available on the floor, especially if you are dealing with heavy items. read more

Bj's Tire sales & service dept. is terrible. The kid working the counter on Sat. 12-9-17 has got to be the most clueless individual I've ever encountered at this type of business. Rude, unhelpful and says it takes him 2 hours to change the tires on a vehicle. I guess I interrupted his cell phone time while he was supposed to be working. On a brighter note however, you can make an appt weeks in advance, which does no good when you need service in a more timely fashion. Definitely won't be coming here again. read more

2 bad things about this store: 1- Their parking lot is on steep hills! it is very difficult to push your cart uphill when it is full of stuff. let alone having it stopped without rolling down and hit other cars till you unload to your trunk. I got my car bumper dented because a loose cart who was rolling down the parking "hill" and hit it. I went to the store manager asking her to check the cameras to see who left the cart unsecured, but there was no cameras out there! I understand the store is not responsible for the parking area, but at least they should install a surveillance cameras on the outside! 2- These guys near the exit door who tries to sell you windows and stuff for your house are very rude, and pushy salesmen. I go to BJS for grocery, not for someone who insists rudely that I should stop and listens to his nonsense! I'm a BJ's member for longer than I can remember and have always received courteous service but in trying to return a merchandise on this last visit, I was subjected to such rudeness and nonsense that I have decided to cancel my membership. On this particular trip to BJ's (I go to BJ's 1-2 times per week because I have a large family) I had to return a merchandise first before buying my groceries and was subjected to blatant accusations that one has to wonder does BJ's train their employees in customer service? The issue was not returning the merchandise (they have a great return policy and have always been able to return anything as long as it was not opened and I had a receipt) but what the employee (or manager? Yes, I am talking about you, Christina C.) did next that utterly appalled me. She proceeded to look at my receipt and said "Uh oh, you use a lot of coupons! I can't return your merchandise". I just stood there trying to decipher what she was accusing me of? Now, I have 7 people in my household so you bet I WILL USE COUPONS. BJ's allows one BJ's coupon and one manufacturer's coupon per item. To be able to afford to feed 7 people in my family, I do exactly that each time I shop at BJ's. I asked her if they changed their policy about accepting 1 BJ's and 1 manufacturer's coupon and she said no but she said it looks like you "doubled on" BJ's coupons. What?!? She did not offer to explain but proceeded to find a BJ's coupon book and go through each coupon to "try and prove her point". After a good 15 minutes of her looking for the coupons that I supposedly "doubled up" on, she could NOT find them. I am now thinking, she will apologize and being the nice lady that I always am, I will forgive this, get my return and be on my way to shop some more for my family. But, Christina C., who has never had any training in customer service, continued to say, "I will return your merchandise this time but you cannot use so many coupons in the future, it is considered coupon fraud". Again, WHAT!?!? Lady, I just told you these were not doubled BJ"s coupons which you verified by not finding double barcode numbers on the receipt and by checking the BJ's coupon book. How else do I prove this? She simply told me next time you have a lot of coupons don't use self check-out but go to one of the cashiers. I would if you had more than one cashier open without a long line. Way to go! I do not pay a membership fee each year to be subjected to unsubstantiated accusations of coupon fraud or whatever the heck she is accusing me of. BJ's maybe a course in Costco's superior customer service would do the trick. Costco, you just got yourself a new customer. You can thank Christina C. of BJ's in Edison.
