This European style German owned supermarket has so much to offer, I'm a huge fan after a few visits! Fresh produce, meats, dairy, bakery, dry goods, gifts, and my absolute favorite that keeps me coming back again and again is the amazing coffee! It's deceptive, from smell alone, you would not think their cheapest variety breakfast blend ground ($2.99 on sale) is anything special, but lo and behold the taste is superb, even better than the Starbucks bagged I've come to enjoy brewing at home. The whole bean organic Honduras at $3.99 a 12oz bag is unbeatable. The nut selection rivals Trader Joe's, much of it is house brand variety or European sourced gourmet goods and lots of US meats and produce. Every house brand or euro brand I've tried has exceeded all my expectations for the super low prices. Love the bakery here! Croissants, apple turnovers, amazing rosemary garlic sourdough loaf is divine, and check the frozen section for some absolutely delicious apple strudel frozen raw from Germany is so very good, as well as the direct from Belgium frozen waffles (wow!). I shopped for most of the holidays here so far and it's all been very well received by family and friends. I keep discovering new products from all over Europe, it's a discovery each and every time!

Another European grocery store landed in Central NJ! There are no shortage of these stores in Europe and the UK, but it's still an exciting addition to the neighborhood of North Brunswick. The store feels and looks like a brother of Aldi. Bakery has good selection (got some baked cheese twists) including slice-your-own-bread selection (closed for sanitary reasons during this time). Lidl has everything (80% of what they sell is their own label) from stuffed escargo to berliner donuts to great looking mascarpone mushroom pizza to Indian food in the fridge to blood orange soda to jamaican ham to delish German chocolates, to all sorts of meats -- regular and organic, to 39c liquid glue, to men's and women's shirt and shoes. The mask-wearing staff is very friendly and excited and rightly so from the opening. Aisles are large (but not as wide as Costco's). More people wear masks except for 2-3 people who just "pretended" to wear masks (under the chin, etc.) and that bothered me a bit since Lidl didn't seem to do anything about it. Otherwise I feel that it's a safe and enjoyable shopping trip with deals on each aisle. Plenty of convenient parking at this Brunswick Shopping Center location. I hope this grocery store that promotes itself as low-cost and low-inventory thrives well in the future.

Good tasty egg tart on the sweeter side than Asian style egg tart. It has a different crust, but it is also crispy and flaky.

First impression of this grocery store is that it's a mix between Aldi's prices, and Trader Joe's larger varieties of items.

Trader Joe's - Restocking some of my favorite TJ items

This weekend I went to H Mart to buy some oranges for Chinese New Year. We give them as gifts to family and friends when we visit their homes. Shocked, they were selling three for $3.99. The frugal Chinese shopper in me says, no way am I paying that price. Went to Trader Joe's instead and they were selling a bag of eight for $4.99. I even told the girl who was stacking the oranges how H Mart had the nerve to charge so much. Lol. As I continued to shop around the store, the girl came up to me with another bag of oranges and said take this bag instead it has nine (instead of 8) oranges. The fact that she took the time to look for me is what Trader Joe's is all about. That totally made my day. The workers go above & beyond. And don't get me started on the cashiers, I always enjoy saying hi to them and engaging in some friendly conversation. If you can't find a product, a worker will walk you to the aisle. Trader Joe's has me as a loyal customer for life. On another note, oranges are incredibly sweet and juicy right now. Go get yourself a bag.

The store is large with many options. I was very shocked by the size and what they offer. Checker was not friendly which was very strange to me but maybe she was having a bad day. The first breakfast catering was wrong. I had ordered a 4 parfaits that serves 10-12 as I was hosting 40+ people. The driver was in coat with me and was waiting for the parfait. When the order arrived it was missing the yogurt and granola but did have 4 berry bowls and 4 individual parfaits. I did immediately call and the initially offered to take half the cost off, I did not believe this to be fair as I had only received the fruit which if purchased separately would have been significantly less. After being on hold for a few min they were able to credit back an acceptable amount. They also recognized that I also had an upcoming lunch and they would make sure it was correct. Lunch did come and it was correct and delicious. We have another order coming and hope it is correct

So on the strength of that alone I was ret to visit. My husband has been crying for a roti maker for the truck - I can see how rolling fresh roti on the dashboard may not be the move - but I wanted to see the options somewhere other than Temu or TikTok Shop. So I suggested we go to the "Spanish market" since they basically have the same thing for tortillas. What a delight! So many fruits, vegetables, and chilis I had never heard of. There were great "jarlic" mixes and the meat selection was legit too - saw the ribs I love and many varieties of chorizo. We found a lot of tortilla/roti makers from wood to cast iron. We were just window shopping though. Prices on American staples (relax. I mean the stuff you see on the "American" aisle in an overseas grocery store) like kids cereals, fruit juices, and frozen foods were high. But the items that were more related to "local" cuisine seemed competitive. Anyway, parking is good, the vibes are right, and workers are busy stocking the shelves yet not too busy to say hello. We love that. As an aside, I try to be unobtrusive in spaces like these, (ESPECIALLY in times like these!). I am protective of the sanctity of my Black barber shop and beauty salon and aim to extend that understanding to the cultural gathering spots of others. Not saying YOU have to roll like that - maybe a grocery store is just a grocery store. But I'm just telling you how *I* roll. So will I be a regular? Nah. But when I'm after a specific spice blend, or cut of meat, or dried chili, yeah I'll run through.

This place had a great selection for groceries, a helpful staff, and a tropical, homelike Vibe.read more
