Best dive bar in the US. Hands down. I've gone to many cities hoping to find a "BJs"-esk bar and havent been successful. Nothing compares to the cheap drinks, $1.50 corn dogs, sticky floors, half broken dart boards, bubble hockey, and foos ball, and the annual beach party. Cutting a cake with a chainsaw? Filling a bar with sand for one night and cranking the heat up to 85? You won't find that debauchery anywhere else. BJs is the best. Never change. read more

BJs has been my favorite spot to go every time I have the option of heading downtown to bars. Their taco Tuesdays offer double shot long islands for 2$, wednesdays often have live bands playing for a low cover fee, and they celebrate birthdays with a sparkler and drink combo. Their drinks are always yummy and are very well priced for anyone on a budget. It doesn't feel as if you're entering a lower-tier dive bar, you're bound to find yourself playing darts or wondering what catchy song is playing on the speakers. Seemed pretty cool upon entering. Drinks were extremely watered down and more importantly, BJ's employs a security guard that is EXTREMELY inappropriate with paying customers. My friends and I saw Johnny and the Mankids and stayed about an hour. Us and several other people were moshing and having a great time (nobody around us seemed bothered by the pushing) but the security guard proceeded to grab my friend by the shoulders, drag her out by the arm, and verbatim called her a "f*cking c*nt". Mind you, my friend understood at first that he was asking her to calm down, and she said okay (even though everybody else was being rough too but we'll disregard that). I said to one employee, "Hey, your security guard just called my friend a c*nt". He proceeded to say "yup" excitedly and I asked, "you're okay with that"? He answered "yup!". I went back in the bar to grab the rest of our group and saw that literally everyone was still moshing and being rough, but nobody else was getting kicked out. I saw the security guard and approached him. After talking to him, he claimed that my friend "hit him in the balls" and said "f*ck you" to him. This is really interesting considering my friend is a girl about half his size and had agreed to calm down upon initial approach. I don't know what crazy whack job makes up a story about a girl assaulting him to justify dragging her out and calling her something so disgusting and disrespectful, but that's what you get at this bar I guess. On the plus side, Johnny and the Mankids sounded awesome for the three songs we did see them perform. I'll be glad to see them again somewhere else! read more

Doorguy bent my NC ID in half because he thought I was underage, and then for the kicker proceeded to tell me that I could come on in as long as I promised not to 'cause any trouble'. So under his assumption he is now trying to let an 'underage' girl into the bar with no ID, which from an owners/legal stance, is completely illegal... So my 26yo self (who is here with family for a reunion, and also a bar manager) now has a broken ID because your Doorguy is not capable of checking VALID ID's from out of state customers. Oh, and was ONLY here to get some food on the way home, which was made clear upon asking the Doorguy on arrival 'is there food being served still?' Don't expect reimbursement for the broken ID (while I'm on vacation) from a seedy place like this, but would like to warn others of their shady business practices... read more

So you typically come here to drink however you shouldn't look past the kitchen aspect. I don't like chicken wings, but I enjoy eating wings from here. Deep fried pickles are amazing and poutine fries!!!! Where else can you get those around here! The pork sandwich is pretty good as well! I wasn't crazy about the buffalo Mac and cheese but my husband has been raving about it for two days straight. Occasionally we will eat in the bar if we are childless however typically we just pick it up and make a smorgasbord at home. This makes for a pretty awesome date night in! read more

I spent countless thousands of my parents dollars at this place when I schooled here. I don't know how I spent that much considering this is still the cheapest alcohol I have ever experienced and I now live in New Orleans. Scarfing down free hot dogs at happy hour, blowing summer income on top shelf tequila, housing fools in darts, writing shit on the bathroom walls, and knowing every person who walks through the door is my fond memory of this bar. BJ's is the oldest surviving bar/tavern in Fredonia N.Y. The ownership has changed hands from the original family that started the business but the new guy Rob, still keeps what he can going of the old feeling. The drinks are still fairly priced the music still sultry and new wave, and the food in the back at the down wind cafe is good. Always worth a stop for a few even to just say you were there. I was brought here for a coke, burger, and fries when I was a kid, I worked here, i drank (a lot) here. This is the only bar worth frequenting in Fredonia. The only caveat to remember is that Fredonia is a college town and the crowd some nights will be terrible. Even on the worst nights, however, it remains the only place worth drinking at. Go to happy hour for cheap pints and great wings. Make bad decisions and go on Tuesday nights and eat corn dogs (or whatever they're doing now.) Hell, go Wednesday and Thursday. BJs was the coolest place to go on a bar-hopping trip in Fredonia. All the "alternative" kids hung out there, the music was the best played in any bar in the village & $1 Long Isle Ice Teas & $1.50 Molsons were served on Fri & Sat nights. And the bartender used to ignite 151 rum he'd spit from his mouth! Fun stuff!!! We found out in Dec, 2001 that the orig owner had sold the place. A college town dive that is a must stop for any Fredonia bar crawl. The food has always been top notch greasy bar food.

This is place is a dive bar, but that's part of the charm. If you come at night it's dark and loud and crowed with drunk college kids, but if you come early you can grab a seat at the bar or one of the few tables and have some good bar grub. (They serve food until 1:30am Tues-Sat, I was just mentioning coming early to avoid the drunk crowd) They're famous for their wings, but they have a whole menu of food including handmade burgers and specialty topped fries. Ill focus on there wings for this review. The best time to come is on Friday and Saturday from 3pm-7pm for 50 cent wings. They also have drink specials then. Last I knew it was $2.50 blue and blue light bottles and $2.00 Jim beam and fireball. But back to the wings. I consider these the best in town, maybe even WNY. They are are not your typical deep fried then sauced wings. They first deep fry them, sauce them, then charbroil them in the oven! The result, a delicious wing with the sauce flavor infused into it from being baked. Normally I am a fan of extra crispy wings and where these wings aren't overly crispy there is just something about them that keep me coming back. They offer mild, medium, BBQ, spicy BBQ, hot and suicidal. I personally wish they would expand their flavors or even offer an flavor of the week or month, but I'm still not complaining. The kitchen is located way in the back corner. Order and pay there then have a seat at the bar and wait. Oh and the wings, due to the double cooking process, take a while. Typically 30-40 minutes as indicated by the colorfully worded signs hanging by the order window. Oh and check out and sample the surprisingly extensive bourbon selection while you wait. read more

BJ's has character. It's famous for it... been around forever too, and oddly enough, seems to have always held the same niche. It's the sort of place people remember 40 years after they've left the State. Seriously: While in Washington DC, I got talking with some old dude at a pub... he was easily 55+. He hung out at BJ's back in his college days too, and had the same things to say about the place. This place is one of the highlights of Fredonia, NY. I'm not lying when I say it is one of my top 5 places in Fredonia. They have a very good selection of liquor and beer. I've always gotten along with their bartenders and thought they were great. Their prices are awesome, I know its a college town but still I've yet to find bars with that good of pricing. Also they have a kitchen, their food is a very good value. Going there for happy hour is a must! If I ever do get back to Fredonia I will spend most of my time at BJ's. read more

A dark and gloomy bar normally packed with students on the weekends. It has pretty decent drinks at reasonable prices. The crowd there is usually loud but not rambunctious. People love the Long Island Ice Teas there and with good reason, they're strong and fairly priced. Overall one of the better bars in town. read more

I have been going to this legendary Fredonia, NY establishment for about 45 years, but have not had wings there for many years since I am an old guy the kids don't want to see in their haunt. Graduation nite 2015 my wife and I descended ravenous after seeing a band at an old peeps place, and ordered wings at 11:30 pm. Although the bar was packed wall to wall with no room to move, on graduation nite, we had our wings in 40 minutes and they were as I remember from when they opened the kitchen there many years ago, when Gary was the cook: delicious. Everyone used to say "the best in Fredonia", and I concur, once again. Back in the day they had the original Anchor Bar Recipe, don't know now, but they are best of breed. read more
