It seems that the only person "lacking variety" is the latter reviewer. I usually don't call out other reviewers but something had to be said before someone stepped on either of these landmines. Now, on with the review. Paul was the greatest tour guide in the history of tour guides... maybe ever. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the surrounding area and we were completely blown away by his attention to detail. Did you know that Thomas the Tank Engine was conceived on this route? Wild! Paul knew. He also accompanied us to Stonehenge itself and gave us an in-person walk-through of the site, which I hear the competition doesn't do. The other tours just drop you off and wait in the cafe for you to be done. A bit impersonal if you ask me. Paul even keeps spare rain jackets in case you didn't bring one to the Henge. What a saint. Need recommendations for what to do in Bath? Surprise, Paul's got them. If the other tours are Bieber and Swift albums, then Lion Tours would have to be Peter Gabriel's Solsbury Hill, an absolute classic. Would book again!

There are three tours to choose from now: Tour 1 (I have not done [because I've seen them all before]): a tour of Stonehenge, a walk in Castle Combe Village, a photo stop at Cherhill White Horse, a visit to the Avebury Stone Circles, a photo stop at Silbury Hill, lunch at Lacock National Trust village. Tour 2 (I recently did): The Cotswold Villages Experience which includes very accessible and highly informative visits/walks through Castle Combe Village, Bibury & Arlington Row, Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-On-The-Wold, as well as Malmesbury Abbey & Market Cross. Get ready to be absolutely immersed in the Cotswolds! While our guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the area (we learned so many interesting things!) and thoughtful of bio breaks, we felt the day could have been paced better. We were rushed at Bourton-on-the-Water and Malmesbury Abbey; but, we had *far too much* time at both Stow-on-the-Wold (all fourteen of us ended up standing on the street for forty minutes or so waiting for our guide to show back up; that being said, you should absolutely take Mad Max's recommendation to get lunch at Cotswolds Baguettes and eat them near the church with the famous Yew trees!), and - maybe because our tour guide had a personal connection to it - Arlington Row, where we spent a very, very long time standing in front of people's houses. Tour 3 (I have not done): special access to Stonehenge. I do LOVE these kinds of (almost) all-inclusive tours; they take away the anxiety of needing to drive or come up with an itinerary. They also allow you to truly take in the incredible scenery from comfortable small buses that navigate lots of back roads expertly! I just found this particular tour to be a little less personal than when I first visited a few years back (and compared to our experiences with the Heart of Scotland tours out of Edinburgh) AND I'm missing the more varied selection of tours they used to offer as well.

We did the Cotswold tour 8/23/24…read more Scenery wise the tour was interesting, transiting through the lovely and history rich Cotswolds villages. Lunch however was a disaster. After being told, numerous times, told NOT to eat Lunch in Bourton and wait for Stow-On-The-Wold for a sumptuous lunch, we arrived in Stow to find every single pub closed, many for 3-4 days. We wound up having a lunch in a pasty shop that was, as a British Baking Show would call it "Not Worth the Calories. What I don't understand is that the same tour came here 2 days ago so why did they not forward this information? We could of had a lovely lunch in Bourton.

My advice to you if you're looking for a nice afternoon tea in Bath is this: go around to some of…read morethe local independent bakeries and cafes and pick up everything you might like (some nice scones, biscuits, sandwiches, etc.; you could even get all of this at Waitrose or M&S), then head over to Tea In The Gardens (a coffee stand located at the Botanical Gardens in Royal Victoria Park), order a tea, and have a picnic outside. You could also bring tea/coffee from home and do this anywhere in the city really: the Royal Crescent, Sydney Gardens, Henrietta Park, Norfolk Crescent, Green Park, the Parade Gardens... Any of which would be a nicer experience than The Bath Priory. The staff here was rude from start to finish: we were openly snickered at multiple times, we were made fun of for our accents, we were blatantly ignored every time we tried to ask for the bill. When we had finally paid - after they accused me of my card not working (it was their wifi; we watched them accuse another table before us of the same thing) - we asked if we could walk the grounds like so many other people had: we were laughed at. Literally, just a chuckle from the host as they handed me my card and walked away. While I appreciate that they offer both a vegetarian afternoon tea menu AND a vegan afternoon tea menu (book ahead for those), we were left underwhelmed by the former option. There was nothing special about the cheese and pickle, egg mayonnaise, cucumber and crème fraiche, or tomato and balsamic sandwiches (any of which I could have gotten better elsewhere). The scones were overbaked and stodgy. The mango choux had an unpleasant aftertaste. The macrons were flavorless. We both agreed the seasonal strawberry tart was the most delicious and vibrant thing on the tower, but everything else - especially given that it was £48 per person - left *a lot* to be desired. Finally, while the tea options are extensive and supposedly unlimited... we never received more than our one tiny pot despite asking. This, for me, is a hard pass.

So in 1874 renamed "The Grand Hotel" and now is called Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel. Outside of Hotel continues to exhibit the grand style of Italianate Renaissance style that was constructed of limestone ashlar. Hotel is located a short distance from St John's Arch, one of the original gateways to Bristol. I stayed for 3 nights, though pool and fitness room were closed due to Covid restrictions and lack of staffing, in very comfortable room on 1st floor level... So no grand view. My room was tidied up daily which was lovely!! Also they provide shampoo and shower gel along with tea and coffee in room- Electric tea pot. Iron, ironing board and hair dryer. Note: no wash cloths so bring your own. Restaurant in Hotel is called Keeper that provides full bar and balance meals on menu. English Breakfast bar for 10# when you have hotel room or 15# other wise mate. Quite of variety for buffet but I give it 3 stars as wait time for breakfast items to refill so breakfast took a bit more time. Staff service is pleasant and kind even with mask restrictions. Checkout was easy. Cheers!

Crazy noisy, our room reeked of pot (coming from our neighbours room), the AC made a screeching…read moresound that kept me up all night. The window wouldn't open so it was either suffocate in a stuffy room or deal with the noisy AC. One of the elevators wasn't working, the one that did, periodically smelled like sewage and they were both missing buttons. On a positive note, the hotel was in a good location, did have parking (which was very tight) and was next to the Registry Office. We won't be staying here again when we return to Bristol.

The grounds are immaculate as you are escorted to your room. We spent a pretty penny but well worth it while visiting the Roman Baths which were less than a Mile away. Breakfast was included during our stay. Instead of going to restaurant for a full breakfast we opted for the breakfast in bed which consisted of a continental breakfast with meats n cheeses as well as coffee, tea and juices. Very satisfying.

Everyone from the concierge, waiters, managers, and housekeeping made us feel welcomed. The one manager took the time to speak to my family every time he saw us and even went out of his way to explain the sculptures in the garden. The gardens themselves are stunning - a little oasis away from the crowds. We had the same waiter for our first tea and several breakfasts and he was so kind. I recommend afternoon tea, the breakfasts, and drinks at the lounge.

I arranged this transfer prior to my departure from the United States and the owner, Steve was very prompt in emailing with rates and confirmation. On the day of our departure, Steve arrived early prior to our scheduled departure and assisted us with the luggage. The car was very clean inside/out, bottled water and we had a leisurely drive to Stonehenge. Steve was very engaging in conversation with answering many questions we had re the surrounding areas enroute to our destination - he was an extremely careful and alert driver. I would strongly recommend using his services whether it is for an airport transfer/sightseeing or full day tours.
