Garden Tour
Claire B.

When we were picked up by Jules and Nigel for our tour at 8am, they enthusiastically told us we were the first people to do the "new" version they'd created for the 2018 summer. By noon, we were so far off the itinerary, it may have well been a different tour. For some guide services, this might be indicative of poor planning or lack of knowledge, but with A&AB, it simply means Jules is a good listener: he quickly realized both my husband's and my passions and reshaped our day around those. For us, this meant visiting some wonderful pubs overlooking gorgeous valleys lined with sheep pastures (I was SO close to catching a lamb, don't let anyone tell you otherwise), eating crispy pork roasts while discussing cultural differences, seeing rail tunnels, and chatting over tea and cider in sun-dappled gardens. By the end, I truly felt like we were all friends (as indicated by our continued friendships). One of my greatest joys traveling is meeting new people and figuring out what it truly means to be someone from that place. I loved Anthony Bourdain's ability to marry people and food and A&AB made me feel like I was on "No Reservations: Bath-Style." I absolutely cannot wait for my next trip to England so I can see even more of what Jules and Nigel have to offer. Something tells me it will surprise me and make me love A&AB even more. One of the best tours of my life, truly.

Discover some of England's oldest secrets and prettiest hidden treasure. We took the Stonehenge & Somerset tour with Julian and absolutely loved it. He picked us up at our hotel and was prompt and polite. One thing to know is he is a history teacher ( could be power forward at 6'7" ) but is extremely friendly and passionate about his job. Our first stop was at the George Inn. Julian bought us coffee and explained the history of the Inn with great detail. Then we set off to Stonehenge. Julian has a great inside to this marvelous wonder of the world. Then lunch at one of the best fish and chips pub we had while we were in the U.K. Then we found ourselves at Nunney Castle. He explained the entire background of the site along with the he Abbey in the same town. We finished with some delicious cake and tea in a garden setting which was the perfect end to a perfect day. We can't say enough about the tour and Julian himself. We promise you will not be disappointed. Also call to see if he is offering his culinary tour of Bath and Somerset. Sounds green and farm to table fresh. From local farmers to finished dishes, I think it will catch on quick!

Excellent tour with Jules as our guide! I had a lovely and informative journey through the Cotswolds with a small group. By the end of the day, it felt as we were spending the day with good friends. Highly recommend!

Review Highlights - In & Beyond Bath

Jules and Phoenix have made the visit to Stonehenge most personable and I don't think you'll find better guides.

Lion Tours - A great time touring Stonehenge and the Bath area.

One of the…read morereviewers clearly never went on the tour (writing on behalf of others) and the other reviewer was merely repeating the former reviewer's review. It seems that the only person "lacking variety" is the latter reviewer. I usually don't call out other reviewers but something had to be said before someone stepped on either of these landmines. Now, on with the review. Paul was the greatest tour guide in the history of tour guides... maybe ever. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the surrounding area and we were completely blown away by his attention to detail. Did you know that Thomas the Tank Engine was conceived on this route? Wild! Paul knew. He also accompanied us to Stonehenge itself and gave us an in-person walk-through of the site, which I hear the competition doesn't do. The other tours just drop you off and wait in the cafe for you to be done. A bit impersonal if you ask me. Paul even keeps spare rain jackets in case you didn't bring one to the Henge. What a saint. Need recommendations for what to do in Bath? Surprise, Paul's got them. If the other tours are Bieber and Swift albums, then Lion Tours would have to be Peter Gabriel's Solsbury Hill, an absolute classic. Would book again!

The guide informed us that the historic bridge is one of only four bridges in the world to have shops across its full span on both sides. Ponte di Rialto (Venice) I had been to #1,3,4 now. Pulteney Bridge is an impressive structure, its three arches sitting astride the River Avon, a splendid backdrop to the crescent-shaped river weir. The bridge in Bath is one of the most photographed examples of Georgian architecture in the city. it was designed in 1769 by Robert Adam and named after Frances Pulteney, wife of William Johnstone Pulteney. He had grand plans to create a 'new town' to rival that of John Wood's on the west side of the city. His grand scheme needed a new bridge, and he didn't want just any old bridge; he wanted a spectacular bridge, one which everyone would talk about, and that's how this came into existence.

A beautiful city with so many breathtaking views. The site is located in the middle of the city surrounded by stores, restaurants, and other must see locations. I highly recommend booking this tour because you can learn so much and will learn about the Roman history of the baths. There is a self-guided tour that you can go as you wish. There is so much to see and so much information along the walls. Make sure to bring comfortable shoes since the ground can get a bit uneven throughout the tour and make sure you see the beautiful baths throughout the tour. Such an impressive experience and if you are in London, I recommend taking a day trip or two to visit. You will be mesmerized and taken back in time.

There was a kid's version too which was great! We were there a little over an hour and at the end you can taste some of the bath water, which was disgusting!!

Great idea! Without a local to show me the sights (and to be honest, how many locals really know…read morethe city?), the open-topped double-decker bus was the best choice I could make. It stops at over a dozen of Bath's hot spots and with a non-stop history lesson. And as you're on this 45 minute ride around the city, the tour guide is going on about all the interesting spots and the background of each as you go past. The ticket is good for two days, so if you want to hop off at a few of the stops along the way, you can still hop back on later. And the best part is that the ticket actually covers two routes - the urban city tour and the "skyline" tour around greater Bath. Definitely do this. One tip: the tour guides each have their own patter, so if you really want to learn about Bath, I'd recommend taking the tour twice. Adrian on my first run had completely different tidbits from Paul, on my second trip. The bus has free headphones available - if you can't hear the guide from where you are seated, or if you prefer a language other than English - pick up a set. (My iPod headphones didn't fit.)
