4 post bed @ the Mercure

This hotel is well located in the Centre of Bath. The rooms are cosy. I had a poster room. The floor old wood, which means that there is a lot of noise with people walking around. I found that the staff were nice, though they were unable to find me a bottle opener -- strange for a hotel.

The Francis Hotel is a gorgeous, old-school grande dame complete with sumptuous entry and squeaky wood floors and stairs. Our room was at the top level in a corner facing Queen Square - we loved opening the windows and watching the people stroll by every morning. The room itself was clean and neat, it had an old-fashioned feel and *bonus!* a heated towel rack in the bathroom. Lovely! In addition, wireless can be purchased by the hour (as in, you buy an hour and you get an hour's worth of wireless, to be used throughout your stay until you've used the hour up) rather than at a flat rate of $X per day, which was a great way to price wireless if you're going to actually charge for it. I'd highly recommend staying at the Francis the next time you find yourself in Bath.

We really enjoyed this hotel! The location was great for walking to sites. The lobby had cozy sitting areas for a relaxing cocktail after site seeing. We stayed in a feature room which had a king size bed. It was very large and had a view of the square in front of the hotel. It was a very comfortable 3 night stay. There is parking behind the hotel. Which is good because we had a rental car. The lot is small and tight to get into, but we managed to find a spot for both our arrival and return from the day trip that we took. Just pull up to the front of the hotel, go inside and they will assist you on how to get into it.

High tea - it was meant to be both sweet and savoury.

**This review is for the afternoon tea.** It seems like we came here on an off day as it was pretty terrible. The good bits: - They have different options for sweet, savoury and for people that like both. - The tea options were lovely - you can smell them all before you choose. - It is served in a lovely room. Why it was meh! - We were told we had to order in advance, so they knew exactly what we'd ordered BUT it still took a long time (45mins) to bring us food. - Most of us ordered different teas, but the waitress came back and told us that several people had ordered teas with different names, that were in fact the same tea. We questioned this (as it was obviously a lie) and got the waitress to smell the teas we had ordered, as they were all completely different. In the end she took them back and swapped them grudgingly...but it was all quite strange. - We had to order water and remind them 4 times (four! times!) before they brought it. - One of my friends ordered the breakfast tea with milk, and then had to ask again twice before they brought the milk. This took so long that she had almost finished her cakes. - The scones were completely tasteless and a bit stale. Meh. - We were meant to share sandwiches, but they only gave us two salmon sarnies between 4 people. Lack of salmon made me sad... The sandwiches were also presented really strangely, they couldn't even cut the crusts off properly. We were the only customers being served (everyone else had received their orders before we arrived...) so I am not sure how they managed to be so rubbish and rude to us. In the end I was sad that my friend had chosen to have her 40th birthday here. Ah well. I had lots of fun as my friends are lovely ladies...but I ended up spending almost £40 on mediocre food and truly rubbish service.

I liked how they put a wallpaper of the Roman Baths in the shower - a very cute detail.

Second, the location and views are great. You can walk to so many good shops and restaurants, but the hotel itself is on a quiet street that has a neighborhood feel. Third, the attention to detail is immaculate. Radio set of perfect music when you arrive? Check. Antique brass keys? Check. Luggage handlers who are so polite you feel like you're a member of royalty? Check. A helpful sightseeing guide for fans of Bridgerton? Check. I really cannot emphasize enough how amazing the hotel and staff were. I arrived sweaty and covered in literal mud from a cross country hike feeling incredibly out of place in such a gorgeous hotel and the staff made me feel like I was arriving at my own home. I loved this hotel so much I wish I had extended my time in Bath specifically so I could enjoy this beautiful property for a few extra days. DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS AMAZING SPOT.

First time staying at a five star hotel and while the amenities (free parking, breakfast included)…read morewere great (especially given that there is no parking in bath), the service of all the waitresses/waiters lacking. Maybe it's because most, if not all them were really young but they didn't seem to have things all together. For instance when we went outside for an afternoon tea, the waitress forgot to fold napkins for us and gave us them pretty much half way to the end of our tea. It didn't bother me but it's something I definitely noticed. At a certain point we had to seek out waitstaff to get our final plate of scones and another cup. In another instance, a member of waitstaff totally got an order wrong (asked for one cup of tea but ended up with an entire pot) but we didn't want to bother them by correcting them. It's something that can easily be corrected with better training but for a five star hotel this should not be happening constantly. As for the room, loved it and especially the bathtub in the spacious bathroom. The tv had a HDMI and USB port which was really fun. Also the spa was included in the visit which was nice to experience, though the ice room was lacking. I loved my stay and this is just me frankly being nit picky because of the hotel being five star but NONE of these things made my experience any less enjoyable or memorable. It was a super relaxing stay in bath. I would come back LOL
