Nice property by Marriott. The issue is the pull out bed was not at all good. I get that the mattress is usually this? But if you sat on it? Your butt sank to the ground. Not at all what I thought we would be getting. Reservation said that the room sleeps three. It should say sleeps three but only two will get any rest. Marriott ?? Address the issue please. Thank you! Part of the Marriott hotels, this is a beautifully restored building, where we spent a night in a well appointed room. The staff was helpful, very friendly and accommodating to our needs. Only issue I had was being under the front entrance, so at times during the day it was a little noisy in the room, so we went wandering and the issue was solved. I will stay here again. read more

Shower was a mess with no doors so the bathroom floor flooded after every use. The AC we complained about but we're told it had already been fixed however it still took about 12 hours of continuous running to get the room to a decent temperature. We even had to make a note to the maid to please not turn it off while we were gone. He/she did not but did raise the temperature back up on the thermostat. Thanks for that. Breakfast we were served two of the most dried out overcooked omelets we had ever seen. It was like eating paper or cardboard. Toppings missing and all. Apparently zero standards in the kitchen. Luckily we cancelled our dinner reservation the night before and had a great meal at Sally Lunn's just down the street. Avoid the hotel restaurant and don't plan on being comfortable in the room. This review is for the Abbey's Après-ski pop up chalet bar outside the hotel. What can I say. LOVED LOVED this ski bar. Could Bath get any more beautiful? Well yes if you have been in this bar. Walking down around the streets we spotted this festive pop up chalet which belongs to the main hotel. Drawing in mixed crowds, the place was busy with families, hipsters and even a few grand parents all getting into the Christmas spirit. Although small the decor inside is magical, packed with faux deers heads, knick knacks, polar bears, washing lines full of colourful socks (you had to be there) and all things Alpine and Christmassy. There is plenty to keep you amused while you chug on your mulled wine and hot whiskeys. As the hotel motto says...who needs snow! read more

I've given the hotel a 5-star review. This is an old building that has apparently had a pretty recent update. In many ways our room was modern and comfortable, and we certainly felt at home. Still, this is an old structure, with the squeaky floors and noisy plumbing to prove it. If Yelp made it possible, I'd probably give a 4.7-star review - very good, but not perfect. There are a lot of different aspects to a hotel stay; we'd break them down like this. Staff - Super friendly and helpful. We can't say enough about how sweet everyone was who we came across behind the front desk, in the restaurant, and in maintenance. Room - Perfectly adequate; comfortable bed. We had some minor issues with temperature control and with a slow-to-drain sink, but not a huge deal. We could hear our neighbors move around. It is an old building. (Bath is an old city - that's why we went there to visit!) Food - We only ate breakfast at the hotel, but we ate there each day. The food was good to very good, and service was friendly. Always a pleasant experience. Location - Fantastic. We walked to everything. The city center and main tourist attractions are pretty much just around the corner. We walked south to Prior Park NT and north to the Royal Crescent - both about a mile from the hotel. Northeast across Pultney Bridge to the Holburne Museum, even closer. Parade Gardens and the River Avon are right across the road. Even leaving with our luggage, it was an easy 5-minute walk to the train station. We were close to everything. read more

This hotel is ideally situated for a weekend visit to Bath, slap bang in the centre of town, just adjacent to the Abbey itself and just around the corner from a reasonably priced car park next to the police station (£12 per day). Part of the Best Western chain and classed as a 3 star I found it overpriced for the facilities but considering its location I suppose it was reasonable. We paid £174 per night for a twin room en suite with breakfast. On arrival we were greeted very warmly and the check in procedure was smooth and speedy, we were also told the room was ready even though we were 2 hours earlier than the suggested check in times. The room was spacious and clean with an adequately sized bathroom, flat screen wall mounted tv, coffee/tea making tray, hairdryer, ironing board and iron and a couple of useful and interesting magazines about Bath. The only downside was that the view from the two huge windows was uninspiring - unless you find interest in a brick wall? Never the less it was fine. The bar was small but perfectly formed, well stocked with the usual optics and beers and with the added treat of Fentimans soft drinks, you could also order from a classy and interesting variety of bar snacks and get hot drinks too. The service was outstanding, the bar staff were polite and efficient and even took the time to recommend a choice of gins! I also liked the array of artwork on display, from large Warhol-esque Marilyn canvases to sculptures. Breakfast was excellent, a full continental spread of the usual fruits, yoghurt, meat, cheese, baked goods, juice and cereals and then the choice of a hot breakfast ranging from the delectable pancakes and thick cut smoked bacon with maple syrup, to a full English complete with a perfectly seasoned and crumbly black pudding....yum yum yum! They brought plenty of hot toast and large pots of good coffee with hot milk too. Contrary to the review by Ron M. I found the wifi to be very reliable and a good strong signal, and there is a computer and printer available in the lobby for guests to use free of charge. We did not get the chance to try the food in the Allium Brasserie, but from what we saw, it was popular and the food looked fantastic. There was also a lovely outside patio for those balmy summer evenings(!) and for the smokers amongst us who like to be comfy whilst feeling like an outcast!! All in all it was a great two nights and I will most definitely return to this hotel if I can get a good deal or someone else wants to pay...??? read more

Oh dear, have to admit not the best hotel I have stayed in Bath. Part of the Best Western chain who are generally pretty good. However this one leaves a little to be desired. The exterior of the hotel is charming. It is an easy walk from the train station. Our room was in the basement with mold and filthy carpet and a broken security lock (deadbolt) on the door. We were hastily denied any change of room without even a check to see what might be possible. We made the best of the evening but would never stay there again, or recommend it to anyone. read more

"Bathing Costume - Not Swimsuit!" Outstanding desk personnel! They knew exactly how to solve my problem - I came to Bath to take a bath and forgot my swimsuit! (Or bathing costume, as I was informed by the utterly confused clerk whom I asked when I went into a nearby shop to purchase one. We stared each other down after I said "swimsuit." Another clerk nearby called out to the confused clerk, "She wants a bathing costume!" Ohhh! We both got it. And she gestured to where the sale rack was.) The hotel desk staff said that happens to guests all the time and they gave me good directions to the nearest store that sold bathing costumes for, like, under 10 dollars. Anyway, they showed us a shortcut to our room that led us through the restaurant, through a door and down a secret hallway. Our room was great, the lobby area was beautiful, and the bar was filled with gorgeous art glass and paintings. We chose this hotel because it was the meeting place for the Mad Max Tour we went on later, so it was very convenient. Well worth the money. Terribly disappointed with this hotel. Hard to maneuver luggage through narrow hallways and various flights of stairs needed to climb in order to get to lift. Parking is not convenient for those with cars and restaurant left us unable to eat half of our dinner. Our room was old and musty while the bathroom had a hole around toilet piping making critter access easy. Great that The Abbey is aged but Interior need not be, especially for room rates required. The only real benefit was the young lady at front counter that went into the rain to help us with our luggage...she gets five stars! read more

Note: This review is about the afternoon tea offered in the tea room of the hotel A nice spot in Bath for afternoon tea, the finger sandwiches and scones were fresh and a wonderful treat after a full day of walking around the city. Service was great, ambiance not that of a 'traditional' afternoon tea (a bit more modern) but cozy and comfortable nonetheless. Very enjoyable! This is a great little hotel in Bath. You have to park your car in a public lot and there is no air conditioning in the room but we knew all of this before we got here. The staff was fantastic. I look foward to a return trip. read more

My husband booked this hotel for 2 nights for our family trip around the U.K. We booked two rooms. Didn't mind the parking was in the lot around the corner. Staff was friendly. Rooms clean, yes a bit dated but expected that and the bathroom in our rooms were actually renovated. My problem is this town is a ghost town after 7pm except outside our hotel rooms. We were in rooms 204 and 205 on Tues-Wed nights. There is a bar on the main floor with live band right outside our hotel. If there was a time I wished it was raining it would be now. The band played until 11:30pm at least and the partiers were out until at least 1am both nights of our stay. There is no drowning this out. Traffic noise is 24/7. I wish I had read the reviews before booking. This is not a hotel for families or anyone who wants to actually get some sleep. Great location which is probably why there is a gathering here. I feel this hotel (or any hotel for that matter) should let patrons know their rooms reserved are not quiet so you have an option to move. Severely disappointed. Giving 2 stars only because I didn't do the research. Did not eat at this hotel so cannot comment on that. read more
