We were on the top floor and didnt hear any road noise and we had the window open all night.The finishing touches are spot on, Dyson hairdryer, pillow menu, large flat screen tv with Sky channels, fancy coffee maker and to top it off a surprise 'Happy anniversary' card and complemantary glass of prosecco for my husband and I. The staff are all very nice, friendly, and helpful but the hotel is clearly understaffed. We ordered afternoon tea in the lobby and it took 45 minutes for the sandwiches, scones and pastries to arrive, by which time the tea was already cold. The rooms are very small and cramped although the bathrooms and amenities were top class. Several bulbs in the light fixtures were burned out. We reserved a bedroom with two twin beds and when shown the room, there was a double bed in the room and a small room next-door with a sofa bed. When the sofa bed was set up, there was hardly room to get by it to close the shutters. The assistant manager, who is really a very nice person, brought up an additional lamp to replace the bedside lamp which was shorted. Plugged it in and it shorted immediately with a spark. It labels itself as an "art" hotel and is the most incredibly over decorated hotel I have ever been in. We very politely informed the management of the shortcomings. They comped the wine we ordered at dinner in their sister hotel, The Abbey and credited us 50 pounds so they are trying hard but I would wait until they sorted out the electrical issues before staying there. You could also bring tea/coffee from home and do this anywhere in the city really: the Royal Crescent, Sydney Gardens, Henrietta Park, Norfolk Crescent, Green Park, the Parade Gardens... Any of which would be a nicer experience than The Bath Priory. The staff here was rude from start to finish: we were openly snickered at multiple times, we were made fun of for our accents, we were blatantly ignored every time we tried to ask for the bill. When we had finally paid - after they accused me of my card not working (it was their wifi; we watched them accuse another table before us of the same thing) - we asked if we could walk the grounds like so many other people had: we were laughed at. Literally, just a chuckle from the host as they handed me my card and walked away. While I appreciate that they offer both a vegetarian afternoon tea menu AND a vegan afternoon tea menu (book ahead for those), we were left underwhelmed by the former option. There was nothing special about the cheese and pickle, egg mayonnaise, cucumber and crème fraiche, or tomato and balsamic sandwiches (any of which I could have gotten better elsewhere). The scones were overbaked and stodgy. The mango choux had an unpleasant aftertaste. The macrons were flavorless. We both agreed the seasonal strawberry tart was the most delicious and vibrant thing on the tower, but everything else - especially given that it was £48 per person - left *a lot* to be desired. It has been lovingly restored to offer a classic Cotswolds pub and B&B to guests with open log fires, exposed beams and many original features. Located in the Castle Combe market place, the historic inn has seen the likes of Oliver Cromwell (English politician and military officer) pass through its doors. After touring through the Cotswolds, we stopped at the Inn for some lunch. We were one of the first guests to arrive that day and were seated promptly. Their restaurant serves a surprisingly creative British menu with many gluten free options and features an extensive wine list. I had yet to eat fish 'n chips on this trip and so I went with the Lager Battered Catch of the Day which came with a pea puree, dripping chips, and curry sauce. This was probably the most interesting fish 'n chips I've had to date. I've never had it come with 'dipping sauces' before. I normally just have it with a bunch of malt vinegar, but dipping it in that curry sauce was so incredibly delicious! Woah! The pea sauce was also interesting, but I found myself continuously going back to the curry. The dish was also perfectly fried with a crispy outside, moist inside, and it was not oily at all. This was honestly the best I had while in the UK and I still think about it months later! If I had malt vinegar it would have been even better. My other half had some local beer with the Breast of Creedy Duck w/ Leg Ragu, Braised Onion, and Asparagus and Turnip. This dish was lovely and nicely presented. My husband really enjoyed it. The lag ragu in braised onion was very flavorful and I would have eaten an entree size of that. Our little one had mac n' cheese. It was a bit pricey for a lunch, but given the location, limited options, history, and quality of products; it's understandable. The service was a bit slower than we would have liked (that may be my American expectations speaking), but overall, we had a lovely time and enjoyed our lunch in this magical little English village. Breakfast is plentiful and relaxed overlooking the greens, and it's a nice getaway location for multiple occasions. You can get here by bus if you want to walk a lot, but it's advisable to have a car. Golfing is the main event here if you're not getting married (or combine for a double-pop). We had a nice stroll around the entire walking route (you can finish it in an hour), and overall we enjoyed our stay. We'll hope to return next time in town.

The view from our room of the 18th hole of one of the site's two golf courses was very much appreciated, in addition to the view of the River Severn and the Severn Bridge. The room was spacious and quiet. In addition to the comfortable double bed we were provided with ample lighting, a large desk, a chest of drawers, side table (unfortunately found to be quite dusty), comfortable armchair placed to take advantage of the view (which I took full advantage of, relaxing with a book and a coffee first thing in the morning after my swim), several large and clean mirrors, and a bedside table each. The wardrobe with sliding doors contained several hangars, instructions on how to obtain dry cleaning services, an iron and board, a large electric fan, and a good-quality hairdryer. Above the chest of drawers and facing the bed was the large flat screen television, upon which a range of options were available (including the opportunity to purchase recently-released films). We were provided with a selection of tea and coffee in our room, along with a small but clean kettle. At one portion of each item per-guest we felt that we could have been spared having to contact reception in order obtain more. The bathroom provided high-quality facilities above the level of essential. So many hotels no longer have bathtubs, so the opportunity to enjoy a soak was very much appreciated. However, I cannot help but mention that a used bottle of complimentary body lotion was found behind the shower curtain. As neither of us are accustomed to feather pillows and prefer the support of a foam pillow. A quick call to reception and we had a couple of decent foam pillows sent up. The soft and spacious double bed, the comfortable temperature of the room, and the tranquillity of the surroundings made for a wholly restful night. The pool, although relatively small, was perfectly adequate for a few laps before breakfast. Both the sauna and steam room were clean and spacious. Although I didn't pay it a visit, the gym appeared to have plenty of modern equipment on offer in a pleasant atmosphere. The changing rooms were clean and provided secure digital lock mechanisms on spacious lockers, hairdryers, ample space in which to change and private facilities, and complementary toiletries. The breakfast buffet was fantastic in terms of the availability and quality of items. There is something to suit a great many tastes here and the staff seem only too happy to accommodate any special requests. I made the mistake of leaving behind a treasured jacket and was very pleased to find the facilities team had located it and dispatched it in the post to my home address.

The room was beautiful with a large bathroom with roll top bath and monsoon shower, a four poster bed in the bedroom and a sitting room with a DVD player and log burning stove. It was the most perfect relaxing experience to recover from the excitement and stresses of planning a wedding. We were also treated to a complimentary English sparkling wine in our room congratulating us on our wedding. The pig grows and sources all of its food within a 25 mile radius and we could explore the beautiful gardens where all of the fruits, vegetables and herbs grow right outside our front door. If you wander a little further you can also visit the pigs, chickens, deer and more. The service is second to none, we rented DVDs from reception which come with complimentary popcorn, wandered around the grounds in complimentary wellies, played board games in the library and received the most luxurious massages in the potting shed treatment rooms in the gardens. We also had a gorgeous breakfast delivered to our room both mornings on a tray so big two people carried it to us. I have a dairy allergy and constantly find it difficult requesting or mentioning that I need dairy free items on menus but the Pig were brilliant, we had told them in advance and they had soya milk in the room for me and both nights at dinner mentioned that they were aware and could help me with anything on the menu before I even had to mention it. It's such a little detail but it makes all the difference to not have to feel anxious or inconvenient when eating out and I have to commend them for this brilliant service. The only fault was the wifi and Internet was pretty non existent. This was perfect for us and encouraged us even more to just switch off, relax and enjoy our time together but I can see how this could be a problem for some. I also 100% recommend trying their non alcoholic cocktails, they are so good you don't miss the alcohol at all, try the red bush!

If you're looking for somewhere special to stay & eat for a birthday, anniversary or just because it's Tuesday, this hotel & restaurant will not disappoint. The Pig is the nicest hotel experience I have ever had. There are 29 rooms. Of these 29, there are two rooms in the gardens which are more like little two-floor cottages with chairs on a little veranda outside, overlooking the gardens & the Mendip Hills. The prices for these were not on the website when I looked. Our room was about £220 & worth every penny. On arrival we were briefly shown around the hotel - there are so many rooms to explore & the staff are happy for you to do so. Our room was beautiful; there was light streaming in through the windows & a waft of jazz was coming from the digital radio in the room. They have 'larders' containing sparkling drinks, wine, beer, sweets (the fun old school kind - sherbet wands, flying saucers, etc), posh biscuits, chocolates & more. This all came with a detailed price list which made it all very easy. There was also a kettle, teabags, sugar, a Nespresso machine & three types of Nespresso pod (Lungo, decaf, & espresso - Arpeggio if we are being specific!). The tea & coffee was free of charge. The monsoon shower is worth the special mention that they have on their website - if I wasn't worried about my water usage I could have spent an hour in there. All the little details in our room & around the hotel were perfect. Vintage knickknacks here and there that were beautifully clean & so well placed. One thing that would make the room even more perfect would be some fresh flowers or even a potted herb (in keeping with the theme of the hotel). There was nothing 'alive' in our room and fresh flowers or something in a pot would make the room beyond perfect. The bed was huge & very comfy. There was a stack of National Trust books to read - bee keeping, hen keeping, pig keeping, etc. This location is as much a restaurant as a hotel - people travel from far & wide to eat here. I read somewhere that they consider themselves a restaurant with rooms, rather than a hotel, and this is perfectly fitting. So let's move on to the food... The menu is sourced from within 25 miles of the hotel/restaurant - this is their 25 mile menu. When we arrived we sat in the garden (our table in the restaurant wasn't until late evening & we had decided to stay in the garden rather than go shopping, which had been the plan) we tried the pork crackling with apple sauce, a pork pie, some salami & olives, & a chorizo flatbread from their flatbread wood burning oven, which had just opened for the summer. The pork crackling & apple sauce was delightful; we could hear people crunching all around the garden patio & I'm sure they would have heard us too! The pork pie was a risk because I don't usually like them, but it had perfect pastry & the pork was delicious. It was served with some pickled carrots & other veg, which was just right. The salami & olives were also delicious. I found the flatbread to be quite bland - but the chorizo on top was one of the nicest things I have ever eaten. I was hoping to see it again on the evening menu (It didn't feature). I think it had a lot of fennel in it, maybe, but whatever it was it was magical. We also had some tea & later relaxed in the wonderful bar with some cocktails. The staff were chatty, friendly, helpful, & just all round nice. The staff all seemed relaxed, but alert (always knowing if you need something). They seemed like they were at home, which was lovely. The cocktails were great - we had one with earl grey in it, one with bacon infused rum, and others. If you like infused gins and vodkas, this is the place for you - they infuse their own and do a lovely job of it. We went back to our room for a nap, which didn't happen because sadly we could hear the restaurant music from our room, & it battled against the classical music that we tried to drown it out with, but our stay was so lovely that this is just a minor thing. Dinner was next & it was great. We had the smoked sausage & apple mash & the venison & pork belly faggot with colcannon. The colcannon, again, was one of the nicest things, if not the nicest thing, I've ever eaten. It was creamy, cabbagy & beautiful. Puddings - chocolate & caramel mouse with little coffee biscuits & a Bramley apple pie with thyme ice cream. Both were delicious. The restaurant itself is cosy & welcoming - in a conservatory, the chairs are surrounded by pot plants & herbs. The cutlery is mismatched, as are the chairs - one of my favourite bits. We then had whiskies in the library until gone midnight, which was lovely. Breakfast is something to rave about - the table is quite something & the full English is tasty (£15pp). The grounds are spectacular & I can't wait to return.

This was a known shutdown but was not reflected on hotels.com. This is a major amenity so without it the cost should be adjusted. 2) The only available reservation to visit the Thermae spa, one of their partners, was 9-11am the morning of checkout. I asked the front desk if we could extend checkout to just 12pm to accommodate. They said yes but it was going to be an extra 10£. I could see if we were asking for a late checkout on a busy weekend but it was a Monday morning, not known for being a busy check in day for hotels. 3) I was supposed to receive a welcome drink per hotels.com but they did not offer one and no easy way to reference that that was owed per my reservation.

I always appreciate when this service is available because there's such a disconnect between when you have to check out of a hotel (usually 10:30am or 11am) and when you can check into a hotel (usually 2pm or later). Our room was really stylish, sort of a modern Marie Antoinette vibe. It was a definite departure from all the old-fashioned B&Bs that dominate England. Some might say the room was on the small side, and it was probably the smallest room we stayed in during the trip - although not by much in some cases. My husband and I both prefer small spaces anyway (which is why we were able to live in a New York City studio for a year and still be in love), so this wasn't a problem for us at all. The staff were friendly when we dealt with them, which wasn't much since everything went smoothly.
