Twin bed pushed together to make a king.

Shower was a mess with no doors so the bathroom floor flooded after every use. The AC we complained about but we're told it had already been fixed however it still took about 12 hours of continuous running to get the room to a decent temperature. We even had to make a note to the maid to please not turn it off while we were gone. He/she did not but did raise the temperature back up on the thermostat. Thanks for that. Breakfast we were served two of the most dried out overcooked omelets we had ever seen. It was like eating paper or cardboard. Toppings missing and all. Apparently zero standards in the kitchen. Luckily we cancelled our dinner reservation the night before and had a great meal at Sally Lunn's just down the street. Avoid the hotel restaurant and don't plan on being comfortable in the room. Not only was the room an oven but the bed was the most uncomfortable we have slept on. The king wasn't even a king but two twins pushed together and covered with a sheet!

Summary based on a two night stay as a tourist: --very good location, near principal sites and variety of restaurant and cafes --ok prices --easy to book from the US. Part of Best Western chain. --overpriced breakfast, but easy alternative 2 minutes away --quiet except for church bells, which weren't a real problem --ok temperature control --larger than usual bathroom --slow, small lift --friendly frontdesk staff

Après-ski Bar, Abbey Hotel, Bath

This review is for the Abbey's Après-ski pop up chalet bar outside the hotel. What can I say. LOVED LOVED this ski bar. Could Bath get any more beautiful? Well yes if you have been in this bar. Walking down around the streets we spotted this festive pop up chalet which belongs to the main hotel. Drawing in mixed crowds, the place was busy with families, hipsters and even a few grand parents all getting into the Christmas spirit. Although small the decor inside is magical, packed with faux deers heads, knick knacks, polar bears, washing lines full of colourful socks (you had to be there) and all things Alpine and Christmassy. There is plenty to keep you amused while you chug on your mulled wine and hot whiskeys. As the hotel motto says...who needs snow!

Review Highlights - Abbey Hotel

Part of the Best Western chain and classed as a 3 star I found it overpriced for the facilities but considering its location I suppose it was reasonable.

This hotel would have been heavenly, if it weren't for a couple negatives, we're staying for 2…read morenights: 1. The shower is beautifully tiled, but it's hard to figure out how to turn on the shower and there are no bars to hold on to. I started to stand there (since there's glass closest to the faucet control, & adjust the hot/cold control, while getting a cold shower above). 2. The bed is completely covered up so tightly like a package. I twist a nerve on my wrist, trying to un-do the comforters, so I can get inside, and it got too hot during the night, that I ended up sleeping partly outside of my covers, I guest I went too far and I also uncovered part of the fitted sheet as part of my covers, it is no wonder, MY COVERS are too heavy & thick! 3. Several of us, our rooms weren't ready when we entered the hotel, our Tour Director weren't happy about that! UPDATE: See photo. 4. The closet is heated, so while rushing out to catch the bus, I put on my heated-coat, it was giving me hot flushes as we walked down the elevator to the bus, in a sweaty-smelly cranky mood! Other than that, the lights in the bathroom, the decor, the view from our room, they're just perfect, even the chairs, the cushion, the Elle June issue, and tea selections, I just learned the proper way of drinking tea the British way, yeah! We ate here twice for breakfast & twice for dinner, the 2nd night a huge crowd and the staff were hard at work even though we could tell they were understaffed. Food were delicious! BTW: We're not very close to the beach, but there are plenty of seagulls and you could hear them, they're annoying!

We left uttering the following phrase over and over again: Whaaaaaaat is uuuuuuup with this place?…read more Odd amenities, free of charge, as follows: Free wake up call! Shades in the room were too small for the window, so rise and shine with the first am seagull cry! That is, if you slept at all with the beams of streetlamps coming in at all angles. Free "Roman Baths" experience - smell exactly what the ancient people did within your sleeping quarters! Free "B & B" like feel! And the B's are for: Burglary or Break-ins...because the door to the room closes at the top, but by the time you get half way down the door-wheeeee! - it doesn't meet the casing. At. All. Free chiropractic reference on enquiry at the front desk clerk - due to the slip and fall you may have if you dont ask for a rubber bath mat before entering the shower, or from craning your neck to see the late news on the TV realllllllllllllly off center on the wall away from the bed (rather than directly across, where there are curious "art pieces" hanging) or, from tripping in the night to and from the bathroom on the odd step area on one wall close to one side and the-end-of the bed. Maybe hiding pipes or cords or the smell-o-vision tubes? A mini runner-platform-stage for local comic talent? Who knows why the step is there?! Sigh. The location is GRAND. The staff are quite lovely, really. The breakfast was decent and coffee was actually nice.

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at in my entire life…read more First, the decor and overall vibe of this hotel is artsy, unique, chic, and somehow homey all at the same time. Second, the location and views are great. You can walk to so many good shops and restaurants, but the hotel itself is on a quiet street that has a neighborhood feel. Third, the attention to detail is immaculate. Radio set of perfect music when you arrive? Check. Antique brass keys? Check. Luggage handlers who are so polite you feel like you're a member of royalty? Check. A helpful sightseeing guide for fans of Bridgerton? Check. I really cannot emphasize enough how amazing the hotel and staff were. I arrived sweaty and covered in literal mud from a cross country hike feeling incredibly out of place in such a gorgeous hotel and the staff made me feel like I was arriving at my own home. I loved this hotel so much I wish I had extended my time in Bath specifically so I could enjoy this beautiful property for a few extra days. DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS AMAZING SPOT.

The staff is absolutely wonderful, the bed and linens are extremely comfortable, the room is spacious and the amenities are very nice. The location is great and the rooms are extremely quiet. I can't say enough great things about this hotel! I can not wait to return!

First time staying at a five star hotel and while the amenities (free parking, breakfast included)…read morewere great (especially given that there is no parking in bath), the service of all the waitresses/waiters lacking. Maybe it's because most, if not all them were really young but they didn't seem to have things all together. For instance when we went outside for an afternoon tea, the waitress forgot to fold napkins for us and gave us them pretty much half way to the end of our tea. It didn't bother me but it's something I definitely noticed. At a certain point we had to seek out waitstaff to get our final plate of scones and another cup. In another instance, a member of waitstaff totally got an order wrong (asked for one cup of tea but ended up with an entire pot) but we didn't want to bother them by correcting them. It's something that can easily be corrected with better training but for a five star hotel this should not be happening constantly. As for the room, loved it and especially the bathtub in the spacious bathroom. The tv had a HDMI and USB port which was really fun. Also the spa was included in the visit which was nice to experience, though the ice room was lacking. I loved my stay and this is just me frankly being nit picky because of the hotel being five star but NONE of these things made my experience any less enjoyable or memorable. It was a super relaxing stay in bath. I would come back LOL
