glizzy lovers be prepared for one of the best dogs you will ever have! Absolutely lives up to the hype and worth the wait. Bitzinger is a no-nonsense simple service window, order, and immediately grab and go. The line was decently long when I went on a weekday afternoon but moved quickly! Service at the window is very friendly and efficient. Pricing is affordable! I would recommend getting the Käsekrainer (sausage stuffed with cheese), in bread, and with mustard on it - this is now my new favorite hot dog!!
Wow, best hot dog - ever especially when you are looking for a late night meal, open until 0300 daily and ambiance is casual! Pluses 1. Convenient to Albertina museum 2. Tasty hot dog Kasekriner the cheese ask for ketchup and mustard 3. Great value 4. Friendly and fast service Areas to improve 1. They have the beers displayed but they other drinks are not which makes it difficult to choose 2. We were sad when the fries ran out Highly recommended when in Vienna! Look for the big rabbit!
Yes, definitely worth the wait! The line moves quickly. Be sure you check out the menu first so you're ready when yoh get to the window. Like many reviewers, I got the kaserkrainer (cheese filled wurst). We got the hot dog version as it was easier to handle with the various other items we were lugging around. You can get it with mustard or mustard and ketchup (I recommend only mustard). It was sooo good! It indeed squirts out oil and cheese upon first bite--so be careful! This was definitely one of the best wursts during our travels!!

I went to an Opera show on my first night in Vienna and I wish I had known about this place because I was starving and it closes late so definitely a great spot if you are hungry after a long Opera show.
There is constantly a line here and it's obvious why - best würstels! We tried this when we were in Vienna 6 years ago and they still taste the same/great today. We've tried all the different flavors, with the cheese one being my personal favorite. Simply sliced or in bread. The mustard and ketchup to go with is delicious, don't forget to ask about horseradish and curry sauce. All great pairings to wash down with some beer. They take credit cards and you can eat off to the side. We tried another würstelstand nearby and the meat just didn't taste the same. Recommended for any time of day eats.

Loved this little stand near the museum. Great sausages and curry. I had the cheese sausage and I can't speak enough about how mouth watering it was. GET THE CHEESE SAUSAGE! I didn't even know there was such a thing. Luckily the guy next to me said it was the TOP thing to get and BOY was he RIGHT! So in case you're not as fortunate in your line... just trust me! The line for this sausage stand stretched at least two dozen people deep so of course I got in it. Turns out Bitzingers is one of the famous foodie stops in Vienna and for good reason. We ordered two sausages from the friendly guy behind the register, choosing based on which ones looked the best on the grill. The sausages are grilled and on full display. We also got an order of fries because they looked and smelled so good. Huge amazing bonus points: this stand serves beer and wine (and yeah, we had both). No sausage cost over 5 euros, making this snack or meal easy on the pocketbook. Both sausages were hot and delicious. One was served on a super soft and delicious French roll while the other was in the traditional style: sliced with a generous dollop of mustard and a slice of hearty brown bread. The fries were standard issue but they were fried fresh so they were crispy, hot, and perfectly salty. The curry ketchup gave them a tasty twist. I think the fries were my favorite part of our meal! This is a street food stand in every sense of the word, meaning there are no seats, you just stand and balance your food at the small shelf around the booth. It's crowded and was tough to elbow our way in to find space to eat, but soon a downpour started and it cleared everyone out. We had plenty of room to stuff our faces at that point. This is a must-do if you are in Vienna.
As I was doing my research about Vienna, I read that this stand (located right in front of the Albertina museum) is the best wurstelstand in Vienna...I know I'm no expert on Viennese food, but I believe it because it was really good!! Don't let the fact that it's a sausage stand deter you because there's a reason why long lines of locals and tourists frequent this place. My friend and I ordered 2 hot dog käsekraines, which were juicy and tasty( which might explain why it had a star next to it on the menu)!! They toast this long bread, crave out the inside, and spread your condiments on the inner sides (ketchup and/or mustard) before putting a juicy, tender sausage inside. It's similar to a hotdog in that you get a taste of everything with each bite, but much cleaner since it's enclosed in the bun. Perfect for eating on-the-go when you're exploring the city (since it's close to attractions such as the museum quartier and Hofburg palace) or for a picnic at one of the beautiful parks nearby. If you're looking for something quick yet authentic to the area, I recommend Blitzinger!! Glad I was able to eat here during my short time in Vienna.
Bitzinger! I recently spent 2 weeks in Austria and Germany...this classy Wurstelstand(sausage stand) with the Green Rabbit on top has the best sausages! Its always a good sign when there is a line with locals mixed in...I think it was around €3.50ish for the basic bratwurst in roll, its so long that they have to cut the thing in half in order to fit the bun, it looks hilarious! And it was delicious! For about another €3.50ish I got a half liter draft beer. Definitely eat here for quick cheap meal if you're in the area.

The Details: Where else can you binge on sausages and beer with a view of one of the classiest Opera houses in the world? There's really something to be said about "location location location". We tried almost every sausage, stopping at this stand every day of our trip. The names mean nothing to me so I pointed to the sausage I wanted to devour. Try one cut up with a side of bread (has a distinct flavor, very good) and one in the bun (super fresh and very filling). Pro Tip: Toppings are extra, so I'd stick with only the mustard it's far superior to our average American variety. The Damage: A beer and sausage cost ~ 7 Euro.
Yes there is a line and yes it goes by fast. Highly recommend looking at the menu before hand and use Google Translate to translate so you know what you're getting. It's very light and flavorful. Highly recommend stopping by and getting one or two different kinds. The two gentlemen working there were nice and accommodating. read more

For a little stand sitting outside a museum this place attracted nearly as much attention as the museum itself and it was worth it. I have heard the lines can grow quite long so I think I got lucky with a roughly ~5 minute wait, but once you order the food comes very fast. The Käsekrainer in the baguette-ish bun was amazing, really crunchy on the outside, great amount of filling and fluffiness. Area is also really nice to walk around with your hot dog in hand. read more

Alrighty I HAD to get sausage in Vienna of course and my research lead me here. There were just 4 people in line when I arrived luckily because by the time I finished my meal, the line was about 20 people long. I got the sausage with cheese inside. It comes with ketchup, mustard, and bread as well! The sausage it so juicy. You bite in and it squirts. I love the flavor the and texture the cheese adds to it. It's almost creamy! Great price too. read more
These sausages are actually really good! I don't think it's worth getting it inside a bread, the bread itself doesn't add much and fills you up. The plate comes with a slice of pumpernickel bread that's more usual of Austrian. read more

Bit difficult find this place. But must try! You can try many different kinds of sausage with reasonable price, so you should order sausages without bread, then you can eat more! read more

After a morning spent wandering the Kunsthistorisches Museum, my wife and I wanted a quick lunch, since we weren't in the mood to spend time that day in a restaurant when we still had many more hours of gallery walking to get through. So we hopped the #2 tram to head to the sausage stand we remembered behind the Staatsoper and about which we'd read good things in our guidebook. We saw folks eating hot dogs and sausages stuffed in massive buns -- not sliced buns into which they were inserted the way U.S. hot dogs are, but buns with one end chopped off, and the sausage slid inside the hollow mini-loaf with condiments. So we joined a line and ordered two of those (one with mustard, and one with ketchup, because my contrarian wife will only eat hers with ketchup) plus fries. We scooted around the side of the booth where we quickly discovered that Irene's had mustard AND ketchup, as if they simply had added ketchup to one already slathered with mustard -- which I think might have been because they weren't understanding what I was asking -- but we also found that MY hot dog was completely cold. Very disappointing. We ending up tossing much of them away as unpalatable, either because of the unwanted condiment or the temperature. The bun was better than average, and the fries were good, but on the whole it was a disappointing experience. What we ate kept us from starving, but I wasn't impressed. I'm willing to blame the language barrier for some of that -- but not all. The stand was crowded, though, with a long line of seemingly happy customers, so perhaps we were just unlucky that day. Loved loved loved it! It was so much fun, waiting on line and going up to the stand. We then took the escalator up to the Albertina and ate over looking the city. We got the hot dog mit kaeser. It's the big red sausage that you see everyone getting. It's good! It's stuffed with cheese too! We also got two beers for fun. I loved this place. read more

Great käserwurst and bratwurst. Comes in a fresh baguette with choice of ketchup or mustard. I wasn't a fan of the excessive amount the mustard they put on but then again I'm not Austrian. Well priced, long but fast moving line. read more

Probably the most memorable meal (or 3) I've had on my eurotrip with my friend around the continent. Everything about this place is great: the menu, being in front of a classical opera, open until 5am; what more do you want? My friend and I ordered different things to get the most variety, but invariably one of us always got the kasekrainer which was superb. It comes with a delicious dark bread and great mustard, and coupled with a beer it was a meal to die for, especially past midnight. During the day there can be a bit of a line, but at night there isn't much of one. I'd love to come back someday, try more things off the menu, and sit on the steps behind and watch the opera and world go by. read more

Get the bosna! We came here twice in our 3 day Vienna visit from the US. I was so glad to see this sausage stand near the opera house. I kept eyeing what other people were ordering since the menu board didn't have an English translation. Anyway the bosna is awesome...its like an extra long bratwurst topped with cilantro, onions, and curry powder. Their currywurst is also good. read more

This place came highly recommended by yelp and our Iranian taxi driver. The offering of meat is ginormous. Take the suggestion and allow the cart to cut it up for you. Otherwise you'll be stretching your entire face to eat the thing. Everyone stands around the cart downing their order. Enjoy. read more
