A few thoughts: PRICE COMMENTARY: A few Yelpers described their personal experience with overcharging. I won't comment on their experiences and I certainly would never wish something ill on someone else. As of Aug 2016, the have a nice little display screen at the Albertina kiosk that shows you what you are being charged (honestly, it looks like an iPad screen). If you have a problem, say something. It was clear and easy to see. 1. Stuff costs extra - this is why it's a 4 and not a 5. I'm used to just a little extra and feeling like I got more for what I paid for. That's just me. I give that little bit extra in my professional life and like it in others. No big deal here. HOWEVER, extras like extra sides, pickled items, etc. cost money and are charged. Generally, always ask if something costs extra. It's as simple as "I'd like a few gurkens, how much extra for them?" By the way, do this in the united states. It's the same as 'are there free refills on the diet coke?'; nobody likes the rude awakening of being charged $2.75 for each refill. 2. It's a wiener stand - sure, it is pretty upscale. Absolutely, it serves pretty decent Gruner and some nice .30l and .50l beer. But, it's still a stand. They make $ off of margins and freshness and being open 20 hours a day (seriously, 08:00 to 04:00 for the one on Albertina near the Opera House). Remember it's a hot dog vender, just a much better one than we've ever encountered elsewhere. ORDERING & SERVICE: When you go to another country, at least be deferential and attempt to learn to say menu items in a native tongue. You don't have to get it right, but you can at least show some level of respect for another human beings country, culture, and language. I found this particularly absent in tourists from a few countries. Just put a few minutes of effort in ahead of time. People forgive you if you're a little bit respectful and deferential. They are also then much less likely to be rude. 1. Brot und Senf - bread and mustard: you get the sausage sliced this way, eat a slice, then eat a bite of bread (yes, it comes in one large, delicious, and fresh slice) or dip it in some mustard (or curry sauce). You don't stuff it into the bread like is done in the US. Seriously, don't do that. Rookie move. 2. hot dog - they take what amounts to a much tastier version of a roll you'd get for a hoagie/hero , lop off one end, and bore out the middle, then put the sausage in it along with a squeeze of mustard and cheese. You eat a hot dog this way, and you'll be righteously indignant and angry towards how we serve things in the US forever more. Try one. 3. google is your friend - figure out the differences between a bratwurst, grillwurst, krasekainer, currywurst, bosna, kielbasa etc. If you don't know, ask what the server likes best, or order a few things on the menu and experiment. TALK TO PEOPLE: We had a hilariously informative and wide-ranging conversation with a local business owner from Romania. It started innocently enough (late enough he was drunk, we were well on our way), and after a few pleasant and patient listenings to the other and trying to understand one another; he bought us some wine. Meaning that he knows the people there and the wine just came. Take a few moments and linger. Stand at the counter with a beer or glass of wine and a hot dog or sausage and talk to your neighbor. Blasphemy! An outrage! Having read that one should try the Viennese Käsekrainer (cheese-filled sausage) at a Würstelstand, we decided to give it a go at the Bitzinger near the Albertina Museum. Perhaps I spoke German with hesitance, but the server took this opportunity to take as much money as he could from my order. He hastily asked me a bunch of questions, and at the end, I paid for one Käsekrainer with a dollop of ketchup and two Gherkins (small pickles) for 5.50 EUR. On the menu, it said one Käsekrainer costs 3.80 EUR. Then I wondered, where did I spend the extra 1.70 EUR?!? I'll give you some moment to think about the possible answers... - - - - - - - And the answer! * 40 cents for the ketchup * 50 cents for EACH pickle -- 2x0.50 = 1 EUR!!! 1.40 EUR for the extras! Wait, where's the 30 cents? Urgh, the server overcharged me! Normally, I understand circumstances of making mistakes, but in this case, I felt so ripped off already paying 1 EUR for 2 tiny pickles (I can buy a whole jar of pickles for 1 EUR!) that I had to righteously ask for my 30 cents back. I simply cannot condone a place where they charged 50 cent for a small pickle (and 40 cent for ketchup is an outrage as well)! And the Käsekrainer? It was a greasy affair, but that was expected. read more

As far as Würstl stands go, ask the Viennese which is their favourite and they will tell you it is this one. And it is reflected in their prices. You pay higher than the average price for a Würstl (sausage) and to be honest, my Käsekrainer (cheese filled sausage) tasted the same as it always does... It does offer some variety to what you can get at other Würstl stands though which is nice - different Würstl with different sides/toppings. And it sells Pferdleberkäse which is not so common. Leberkäse is a type of meat loaf - although the actual percentage of meat in it is probably unknown ;) but don't let this put you off, it is damn good! - normally made of pork. But the original Leberkäse is made from horse meat (Pferd) and they serve it as this stand! Try it! read more

Quick and perfect for on the go food. The sausages are around 7 Euro and you receive it within a couple minutes. Its close by the Albertina. I got the curry wurst, chopped up in slices with a piece of brown bread and some pickled peppers. The curry was light and the wurst tasted like.... sausages! After watching a ballet at the Vienna State Opera House, our group needed to eat. It was already late and we wanted something fast. Luckily, the Bitzinger Würstelstand, which was just across the opera house, was open even at around 9:30 in the evening. We all tried their Currywurst and Pikant Leberkäse; both orders came along with bread. The mixing of the ketchup with the curry gave the Currywurst a tasty, well-blended flavor while the pimiento and spice of the Leberkäse gave this meat dish a kick. Prices were reasonable and service was fast. The countertops on the sides of the stall's walls were wide enough so you can comfortably eat right then and there. For drinks, we each bought an Almdudler, a refreshing soda made of herbs. If you want to try a local drink other than beer, this could be an option. But, if beer is what you want, Bitzinger offers some, too. All things considered, Bitzinger stands out among the many sausage stands or Würstelstände here in Vienna. Fantastic cheap eats in the middle of Vienna! Rub elbows with tourists, opera goers, government officials, and Vienna natives. Everyone loves sausage. Grab your food and stand along the counters and mingle, or sit on the sidewalk and relax. Simple menu - chose a sausage type and choose on a roll or sliced. Add mustard, ketchup, fresh grated horseradish, or various pickled peppers if you wish. The currywurst was really popular with the locals, but our favorites were the brautwurst and grillwurst with mustard and horseradish. Beer and wine are available and are really good. We don't speak any German, but tried and failed with a smile and the guys behind the counter adjusted to English - no issues at all. Some of the best sausages you can get in Vienna. A bit pricier than your average Wuerstlstand (sausage stand), but worth it. I can recommend the Kaesekrainer, a glorious cheese-stuffed sausage. The atmosphere is exceptional and you will find yourself standing outside across from the opera and down the street from the famous Hotel Sacher and eating across from Opera singers, night owls, taxi drivers, tourists, and a sundry of other types of people. I had this place bookmarked because I knew I'd have to try sausage while in Vienna and I figured I'd be in the area visiting museums. Well we ended up walking through the area last night and I saw this stand and knew I had to stop by. Super simple menu which made it easy to order. Each sausage comes "mit Brot und Senf" which is bread and mustard. The mustard is not like what we typically have in the US so I was excited for it. I ordered the Käsewurst and a coke. I highly recommend this sausage to anyone and definitely try the mustard even if you aren't typically a fan. The bread is good, too- very soft and a nice neutral taste. Coke in Europe is made with cane sugar rather than the corn syrup I'm used to so even that tastes better over here. They had a good list of wines and beer as well if that's more your style, but I needed something more refreshing than that. Everything here was good and although other people have mentioned a long line, we only waited behind three people. If we didn't have limited time here and so much to try, I would definitely say I'll be back. But maybe just the next time I'm in Vienna! read more

Make sure you get the hot dog with cheese in it - and don't skip the carbs- The bun really makes it. What a wonderful treat to have the famous Bitzinger bites for a late breakfast. The scene is out of a movie- footsteps away from the Opera house and overlooked by Albert on horse. The Bitzinger stand offers dozens of options to delight the palate- even champagne to go with your wurst! I elected to have the curry wurst - a classic. It is a hotdog covered in curry sauce which is crispy in the outside and with the curry sauce has a certain bite. Heard so much about this place that we had to try it while in Vienna. Definitely did not disappoint. My husband loved the bosna so much that we came everyday during our trip, and the käsekrainer was definitely my favorite! You can get them cut or in bread. And you can wash it down with a refreshing glass of gruner veltliner wine or beer on tap too! And make sure you order a side of their yummy pickled items! Okay, I'm not sure if they're technically called wieners or just sausages, but as a hot dog lover these were the best I've ever had in my life! I don't think I'll ever eat a traditional American hot dog again! How can we, Americans, stand the tasteless hot dog bun! It's because we don't know any better, I supposed. The gourmet bread my wiener/sausage was poked in could have been eaten alone. It was that delicious! So, here's how it works. You choose your wiener/sausage, they lop off the top of a tiny loaf/roll, poke a whole through it, fill the hole with mustard (and ketchup upon request), stick the wiener/sausage inside, and (try to) place the lopped off piece on top. They'll also slice the wiener/sausage for you on a plate and serve the bread on the side. You can stick around and eat standing up on a shelf attached to the stand. I went two days in a row! I've had the currywurst, kasekrainer, and grillwurst hot dog. All were absolutely delicious, as were the fries. Really good, probably the tastiest meal I had in Vienna. We got currywurst, bratwurst, a kaesekrainer hot dog, and a pretzel. The currywurst was nice and spicy and the kaesekrainer (cheese filled sausage) had a great creamy taste. The pretzel wasn't great, but all the sausages were really delicious and pretty cheap. We paid, got most of the food and stepped aside since we figured it'll take a few minutes to fry. I don't know why this place have such a good rating! My husband and I decided to check it out due to the rating and it's on the way to/from hotel and the shopping area. Bitzinger Wurstelstand made me lose my inhibitions. I wandered the Albertina with the wife until closing, and stumbled out with low blood sugar from not having eaten right the whole day. It's so easy on vacation to just run nonstop to the next attraction on the itinerary, and forget all about eating! That was me back then, and I ended up going a little overboard with the wurstel. I remember fondly inhaling a kasekrainer and another whole sausage, both in rolls mind you, then washing it all down with a liter of beer. The wife got a a kasekrainer too, which she really enjoyed, contrary to her low expectations for Wien street sausages. Nope. No thanks. Overall, a very bad experience. We came by to try the sausages. The line was long, and moved slowly that early evening. Bad experience #1: When I got up to the counter, I tried to be non-touristy and ordered in German out of respect that I was in a German speaking country. I am fairly sure that i got the pronunciation right (since I actually practiced it a bit the day before), but the guy at the counter gave me this dumbfounded look and shook his head. Whatever, so I decided to ask for the food in English. Bad experience #2: When I got the food, he didn't hand me the bread...instead, this idiot basically just drops it in front of me. Now, if you check out the photos, you'll see that the bread is usually placed on top of a napkin. Well, because the dude just drops it in front of me, half the bread is touching the counter. Gross. WTF? Bad experience #3: Here's the worse part. When I pay for the food, it is supposed to cost 9.2 euro. I hand him a 20. He hands me back a bunch of coins. I can't count it fast enough, since it is in euros, and i have 2 sausages, 2 bread in front of me, with a long line in back. So, out of haste, I quickly pick up the change and my food and move out the way. Uh oh, I completely forget that I am still supposed to get back 10 euro! WTF?!! Well, needless to say, I couldn't get back my 10 euro. Why did the guy have to scam me like that?! Did I do something to offend them? I wish I took a picture of the guy...I'd post it on here.
