Classic Vienna style and Vienna hot punsch
Heather P.

This is not hyperbole... this place is absolutely incredible. The owner was so friendly and the food amazing. When we entered Vienna Sausage we were greeted then asked if we speak German or English. The owner then spoke to us only in English. He explained the menu and was passionate about the quality ingredients used. We got two sausages with cheese and classic Vienna toppings. We were upsold Vienna hot punch while we waited for our food. The punch was the best we've had including all the Christmas markets. Piping hot and very flavorful. Now for the sausage. The bun was fresh and soft, the sausage was large and juicy, the cheese kicked it up a notch, and all the toppings were the perfect compliment. The best meal we had in Vienna. The place is small with a few tables and bench seats. The owner makes the small space look nice. Fun art on the walls, a large menu in German, English, and Italian hung, and you can see the food being prepared while you wait. The owner even offered to give advice on things to do around town. 12/10 recommend.

What separates this place from all other sausage stands is (i) the friendly service and (ii) the freshness of their food. As much as I love Vienna, people there are not very smiley (so they may come across as unfriendly or even upset). However, the guy who runs this restaurant is different. He's very friendly and super nice to tourists. He offers tourist information and answers questions about the local area. Also, unlike many other places, their sausages are very fresh. To be honest, there are many other things than sausages that you should eat while in Vienna. However, if you want to have a nice hotdog and friendly service, this is THE place in Vienna.

Menu - we loved the Classic Vienna!

This place is an absolute gem. It's a great location near the city center and the Shottentor stop. We both had the Classic Vienna which was incredible - a delicious käsekrainer sausage with perfect toppings and amazing bun/bread. The owner is one of the friendliest people you'll ever meet as well. He spoke perfect English which was very helpful for my wife who doesn't speak German. He is a local and was full of helpful tips for the city as well. He made us feel like regulars. We liked Vienna Sausage and Rene so much that we came back a second time a few days after our first visit.

Not a fan at all of Vienna sausage. I hate the American hot dog style and the cheese overkill. You'll get tastier Hot Dogs at any Würstelstand in Vienna.

Classic!

Food was amazing, came out so quickly. Even though we came a few minutes past closing, the owner was kind enough to still serve us. He even gave us a little guide on where to go explore in Vienna while we waited for the food to be ready! Definitely check this place out--it's so good!

Nice place for a good hot dog with friendly service. I had their Classic Vienna in the bakery bun which was good and cost less than 5 euros (it is even cheaper if you take the American bun).

Basically the gist I'm getting from their website through my translate app, is that there has been…read morea Wurst stand here since 1916. Maybe not this exact wurst stand, but they are respecting the tradition of this location by serving some of the best wurst in Vienna. Truthfully it was the best I had, including quite a few sit down locations, so I can highly recommend this unassuming sausage stand. Kasekrainer - cheese sausage, was outstanding and I came back to get a 2nd one a couple of days later. The cheese was nice and melted without oozing all over the place. Their website says something about using a truffle cheese from Kaseland at the Naschmarkt, but I didn't really pick up a truffle flavor, perhaps that's a different specialty sausage. However whatever cheese they used was very tasty. Burenwurst - I found this sausage a little smokey and full of flavor. My wife preferred this one, and I preferred the cheese sausage. Can't go wrong either way. Sausages are cut in pieces and served with bread on the side, which is great for sharing and if you are going to be snacking around the Naschmarkt. I never really figured out what the shredded topping was. It was a little crunchy, didn't have that much flavor to it. Maybe shredded radish, but it provided more of a texture than flavor with the sausage. Anyway this little sausage stand makes a nice 1 2 stop along with Urbanek just around the corner to get your Naschmarket food tour going. Don't miss out, and make sure you stop by for one of the best Kasekrainer in town.

We were walking back to the hotel and realized we needed to grab a bite before calling it a night. Luckily we walked down the right street and right into Hefenbrüder. The door was wide open and a chalk signage said "Charity Event" open until 8pm. As we waltzed right in the wife of the owner explained the charity event but welcomed us right in and sat us down. The concept of a pizza to share and cut with a scissor was so enticing we couldn't help but stay! As we were taken care by our waiter ( a very friendly young man with great English) we couldn't help but notice the owner's family working behind the counter for the charity, which gives a hot meal and a bag full of food and toiletries to the homeless. Even their young daughter explained that they believed everyone deserved a hot meal and a good time on Christmas. As New Yorkers, we highly recommend this pizza and this place! The industrial feel and the positive energy are undeniable. Thank you to the owner and his family and team for such a wonderful experience !!! Great great great. Dankeeee!
