We ate a late lunch here after taking the kids to The Wild Center in Tupper Lake and we are so glad we found this place! While it doesn't look like much from the outside as soon as you step inside you feel the charm of this place. The host created us warmly and throughout our lunch I watched him genuinely greet everyone who walked in, including some hugs to obvious long time customers/friends? Our server was great and bar staff jumped in to deliver our drinks when she was taking an order from another table. I had half of a Korean beef burrito (other half was lunch the next day), wife had a teriyaki salmon bowl she loved, and our 12 year old son loved his chicken/bacon/avocado/ranch wrap. We had a couple great IPA's, and if it was a bit later in the day would have taken advantage of their "bourbon and beer" deals. A PBR and well bourbon for only $5!? A craft beer and Bullit whisky for $9? Also loved one of the two big screens in the bar area was basically just showcasing amazing natural landscapes and national parks. We had a rehearsal dinner here in June 2023: 30 people on a night 5 pm. As we live 2 1/2 hours away ALL communications were either email,txt or phone. It was impressive how quickly Danni got back to me each time. She was extremely helpful and open to my ideas as well. She was patient, funny and professional. We had a custom menu and everything was great! Super tasty, kinda different, fresh and there was plenty for everyone. They even packed up some stuff for later without being asked ( boss move for a catering gig) There was confusion as to our bar situation and within minutes Carly and Johnny had it completely straightened out. It was completely unnoticeable to all but me. Cocktails were excellent- strong but delicious. Craft beers were a welcome site to quite a few and there was no wait as Carly was fantastic. Johnny was all over our room making sure that things ran smoothly, food was served, dishes cleared, drinks flowing and everyone was enjoying. He was the ultimate "banquet manager" even though it isn't his title. Prices you ask? Very fair for all the planning, arranging and execution. I came in hungry with my 27 year old son and his friends a few minutes after 9PM (kitchen was closed) - the co-owner Johnny was great. He checked with the kitchen and brought us two full orders of amazing wings. Who does that these days?? We had such a wonderful experience enjoying the music, friendly staff and great wings that I brought my wife for a proper dinner a few days later and it was truly fantastic. We had the wings ( they are very good), brussell sprouts (amazing) as appetizers. As mains - my wife had the poke bowel and I had the carnitas bowl (they added jalapeños for me) - both were delicious and very generous portions. Johnny stopped by our table remembering me from the previous visit making us feel even better about the evening. Normally we would go to Tail O' Pup but unfortunately they've deteriorated in food and service so we found this little spot to try.. WOW! Great service immediately - rustic atmosphere we were instantly greeted and able to sit where we wanted; waitress who was also tending bar... served us water with lemon and menus; they have a robust craft beer, cider and wine menu plus summer signature cocktails... I had a local rose hard cider and my girls had lemonade. The carnivore burger was the best we've had in the Adirondacks over the last 15 years and maybe one of my top 3 ever. The Bahn Mi (yes!) was delicious as were the Asian 5 spruce dumplings with kimchi. The menu is diversified from BBQ to Korean and Asian but also great pub staples such as wings and Fish and Chips. We also had blackened fish tacos, poutine and smoked brisket quesadillas... Everything was excellent - big portions and well priced. This place is a hidden gem and we are so glad we found it. Came in with a party of 6 and had a great time! Started off with the chili maple wings, loaded nachos with pulled pork and poutine. All were delicious but the wings and poutine were a big hit. Only complaint was that the nachos needed more toppings. For entrees we got burgers and flatbreads. Burgers were big, juicy and another big big hit within our group. Flatbreads were small but also good. My philly cheese steak flatbread kind of lacked in flavor but the bbq one was delicious. Service was decent for how packed it was. Bitters & Bones, Saranac Lake: Not what I was expecting at all, located right on the main drag of Saranac Lake's Broadway St., the place is more of a North Country watering hole, with an updated flair. Parking worked out perfectly, with an available paralleled parking spot directly across from the place. They do appear to have side outdoor dining, non-handicapped accessible, the one waitress/bartender stated that there wasn't available staff atm to eat outside. When asked what was on special, the waitress stated, "Everything is special!!!...Oh boy! At that moment, four drafts on tap, became more captivating The next floor up was bustling...contractors with what appeared as an expansion, doubling its size. I started off with a draft beer, a Guinness Stout. The Stout was semi-deep with molasses, mildly bitter, malty, and served at the perfect temperature, semi chilled. Could have been a bit heartier for my taste, but for an introduction to dark beer, it would fit. For lunch, I decided to go with three appetizers, roasted Brussels sprouts, Dumplings, and Lamb Kabobs over greens. By 1:30pm, the first level had filled, and two additional employees appeared on the floor. Ok...20 minutes in, and having requested that each tapa be serviced individually, still waiting for the lunch to begin. Hmm??? About 30 minutes all the food arrived at once...grr. Oh well!‍ The Brussel Sprouts came out lukewarm in a savory balsamic reduction, topped with a chopped walnuts. For me, they were fine, especially toasted, to the point of tasting like pumpkin seeds, but for my Mom, they would have come off overly charbroiled, burnt. Being that the roasted Brussels sprouts are already nutty, I'd rethink this dish a bit, no walnuts, rather keep the tangy balsamic, and go extra sweet with a dab of roasted onion garlic jam. The fried wontons were quite good, accompanied by a pickled slaw underneath. Definitely would have gone with more sweetened duck sauce, or soy and murin to balance it off, over the tangy hot sriracha that came with it. The lamb kabobs were the last eaten, and by far the best. Seasoned perfectly and served medium rare, around a bed of field greens, topped with couscous in a light vinaigrette, a definite repeat on future visits. Overall, Bitters and Bones came off as a local watering hole, converting itself over to a foodie's destination. I commend the "Mind Brain" behind their menu. The waitresses did two sincere checks backs. No dessert menu offered. According to Facebook, Bitters & Bones is open 12pm-12am, daily. Not handicap accessible, and limited times for outdoor seating, it's definitely worth a try. read more

They are not very attentive with customers especially when it's busy. There is confusion when entering the restaurant leading a customer to guess whether there is an available table and if you are going to be seated. No one will seat you with a sense of urgency to let the customer know they are being attended. Then menu and drinks are not overpriced and the choices are decent. Just be aware when there is a band playing it's hard to hold a conversation. But hands down it's the best place to eat within that area. read more

From the outside you might not be expecting to come into such a beautiful bar and dining area but Bitters & Bones has truly embraced the cabin feel with their wood finishes and decorative choices. When we stopped by we tried the Burnt End Tofu and the Poutine. They offer a small ($6) and large ($11) size of the poutine, we got the small and it was a great portion to share between my BF and I. It was a touch saltier than it needed to be if I'm being critical but it was so delicious anyway, although something to consider if you're concerned about that. The Tofu was delicious as well but beware of the spicy kick it has! There are a few gluten free and vegetarian options on the menu that are nicely labeled as well. The service was terrific, our server Beth was very sweet and friendly and also timely checking in with us. The music was a casual alternative rock which was fitting to the atmosphere. I can't say enough amazing things about this place. From the rustic & unique decor to the delicious food, everything was amazing. The menu options are diverse with lots of options. Their summer cocktails were tasty and refreshing without being pretentious or over the top. We had the dumplings for an appetizer; they were spicy in the best way possible. The pad Thai was so yummy! But, what really makes this place are the owners, Jimmy & Johnny. They were so incredibly friendly, funny and welcoming. AND they have gluten free buns! This place, despite being able to eat inside, (we ate on a local park bench) knows what they are doing when it comes to good eats and Celiac options! There were a ton of choices on the menu that I could have...but I opted for the Beyond Burger Hawaiian Style - on a GF bun. They even toasted the bun which was incredible, since GF buns can be a bit on the dry side. My favorite though ? The french fries, they were natural, and I think made from a different type of potato than normal, since they were brown, but they were phenomenal - just the right blend of crispy and soft potatoey goodness. read more

Saranac Lake this time of year is..well...an icebox. If you think the North Country is a frozen tundra (aka where I went to college about 70 miles northwest of SL...) between December and April..Saranac Lake is usually 10 degrees colder than the Potsdams, Cantons, Massenas, and Ogdensburgs (for you NYC-area-so-called-worldly-but-ignoramus-of-north-of-Poughkeepsie folks...look at a map for point-of-reference). It's a charming town no matter what season we are in, and fortunately, work brought me here last week. I happened to come on a Sunday night..so checking out the options (can be tough Sun-Tues) led me to Bitters and Bones. I've been curious about this place for a couple of years, but my dining usually was w girlfriend or friends, so it was usually Left Bank or Fiddleheads. Bitters really has the community vibe down right with an eclectic menu safe enough for a North Country local palate, but some of the offerings would probably considered exotic (Pad Thai)... I had the When-In-Rome idea for dinner...perch fish and chips. Something I do myself up in the 1000 Islands, since yellow perch are plentiful up there as well. Light coating non-greasy and well done (fries were unremarkable but not greasy).. The vibe in here as said prior is community....a couple of guitar players from Jersey were playing quietly in the corner (lots of Jersey exiles up here...even the bartender). The tap list is a good regional mix...and of course the "Mother's Milk" beers: Labatts and Molson Canadian. They have the moose antlers hanging from the wall, probably acquired from another time...even though moose have made a remarkable comeback in the Adirondacks, you cant hunt them. This is an ideal pub if you want the elevated faire (the wings are excellent here too...)...but don't want the second mortgage of Fiddleheads or a few others in town. read more

We stopped into Bitters & Bones during the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival. It's one of the most busy nights of the year in town! We expected a really long wait, but found seating within 30 minutes. It was a little strange having to seat ourselves, but it ended up not being too hard. Not sure if we needed to do this because it was so busy or if it's their norm for pre dinner hours. Their speciality drinks were reasonably priced and tasty! Would definitely recommend just coming in for the drinks if time is a factor. We also tried their Brussels, nachos and rice plate. All were good, but the rice plate was not traditional and reminded us of a homey sloppy joe mixed with Worcestershire sauce. read more

The chips are homemade and all the food is very flavorful. I recommend asking for the sriracha ranch sauce, it was good on my burrito, the wings, fries and chips lol. Our server, Carly, was also incredibly sweet, attentive and very accommodating. My fiancé asked if they could change the channel to the Yankees game and she made it happen right away. They also have a nice pool table/darts area on the 2nd floor. I will definitely go back if I come back to the Saranac area :) read more

Fantastic place in Saranac. We loved the decor in here. It's rustic and makes you feel like you are out West. Our service was great and our waitress was friendly and helpful! My family and I went to this establishment on our vacation and... it was possibly the WORST dining experience we've had in years!! The one thing I will commend them on is the fact that we came at a time when the kitchen staff were going to leave and our waitress let us in, and I thank them for that. There are 3 of us and my brother had no complains beside one of his drink. However... I ordered a Sprite to drink, my mother ordered a beer, with my Sprite and my brothers Coca-Cola tasting off, and somewhat alcoholic. The waitress slammed my mother's beer on the table, splashing it on the table, and did not bring any napkins. There are 3 of us, and 2 of our meals were either inedible or not what they were advertised as. My mother ordered a burger that was meant to come with cheese and onions, and she got a burger with no cheese and fried onions that were refrigerated and cold. They were unidentifiable as "onions" even after biting into them. I ordered a rice bowl with beef, which had barely any rice, and was in some spots hard and uncooked. It had barely any flavor outside of beef and oregano. The atmosphere of the establishment is off to me. My family came in wearing face masks for our safety, and we got stares from many customers. I am openly LGBT and was wearing a shirt that says "Pride", and the atmosphere was so uncomfortable for me, that i needed to take my mother's shawl to cover it, to feel more comfortable The waitress did not come to check on our table at all during our dining experience. She instead, after we finished eating, with 2 half eaten inedible meals, asked my mother how the food was, and she said "Not good." and she replied by saying nothing and blinking. In conclusion, if you wear face masks for your safety during this pandemic, or are openly LGBT, don't visit this establishment, for your comfort, and for your stomachs as well. read more

We love that this restaurant has vegan options. Our waitress Michelle is very sweet and the food is delicious. We ordered Brussels sprouts and dumplings snd both are very good. The guacamole has sour cream in it and since we are vegan, we couldn't order it. The impossible burgers were good snd the Thai noodle bowl. We were a bit bummed that Michelle didn't tell us that the kitchen was closing at 9 because we tried to order more fries and that's when we were told it was too late. So we stopped this place for lunch. It's a cute little place my wife was actually up here a few weeks ago for student orientation so we decided to try it out again. Everything was really good. The buffalo wings were huge had a real good flavor to them. I had the poutine fries which were a little different because they had a herb gravy which I guess was vegetarian but was good nonetheless. Buffalo burger was Bussin Bussin as my teenage son would say. Which is good really good. And we started off the nachos with pulled pork which were really good. Beers recalled service was very good considering they were short staffed. And being in the restaurant business I can totally understand what these small independent restaurants and bars are going through. If you're up in Lake Saranac stop by a good spot. read more

I came here after a recommendation from the hotel staff at Hotel Saranac. I am giving an extra star for the delicious cocktails. The food was a 1-2 stars for me. For cocktails, I had the matcha-tini (Barr Hill gin, apple cider, matcha, lemon and heavy cream) and and ginger-pear martini (Barr Hill gin, lemon, pear preserve, ginger-honey simple syrup & prosecco float). Both were absolutely delicious, unique, tasty, and expertly crafted. Our waitress was quick and was a great bartender. The atmosphere was casual and had a cozy ambience from the fairy lights and candles. The matcha-tini was so unique and almost pepperminty. It is definitely a drink I'd order again. I loved the foaminess, color and wintery feel of the cocktail. For dinner, I had the hangar steak (grilled Steak, butternut squash mash, charred brussels, bourbon molasses vinaigrette). The entire dish was barely even warm when it came out. It was cool in temperature and the portion was quite small. Presentation was definitely lacking. The brussels sprouts were tiny and quite plain. The meat was alright but was unevenly cooked. I asked for medium rare but only the left half was medium rare. My fiance had the bitters burger (prime beef, cheddar, applewood smoked bacon, tobacco onion, red eye BBQ, fresh jalapeno, brioche bun & Fries). The bun wasn't toasted. The jalapeno was mouth-burningly spicy (and I LOVE spicy food but this was so painful to eat). The meat was very thick but the entire burger didn't taste/feel well balanced.
