I ordered two sandwiches here for pickup this weekend. Overall, the quality of the sandwiches were pretty good. I did place a preorder for pick up and was a little disappointed they weren't ready when we arrived several minutes after the pick up time but it's not a huge deal. The quality of the meat and the bread were pretty good in general. I had a turkey sandwich and my partner had the Joey bag of doughnuts. Both of them were quite tasty. I'd consider coming back if I were ever nearby in the area. read more

I don't get why this place is so highly rated. I had the gouda good for lunch a few days ago and while it had a decent flavor, the dutch crunch tasted a little stale (or otherwise I just really don't like their bread, fresh or not). It was a bit difficult to bite into because of this texture, and scraped up my mouth a bit while eating it; bleh I can still remember that feeling. For a sandwich that had me wait 10 min to get during lunch (with just one person ahead of me), I'd have hoped they would have fresher bread. There's a lot of other sandwich shops in town that have a better quality:price ratio, so I don't really see much motivation to come back here. Or at least not on their dutch crunch. read more

I wanted something vegetarian so I made peace with myself that I should be expecting something bland. Holy smokes...their vegetarian sandwich is nothing close to bland. I looove it!! I really like Ike's Place...wait i mean Bite. The store is small, but the menu is gigantic, they have the basics of the condiment realm to the fancy cheeses. The combinations are endless, and the food is great. You can get a standard sandwich, cuts of meat, and cheeses, and some small food items. The main reason is they make good sandwiches. The good: The meat is Boar's Head. There's nothing like it in the neighborhood. It's open till 2AM. Cool owners. Outdoor seating. They serve sausages and other stuff. The could-be-better: My biggest gripe is the bread. The rolls are so big that I have to dig out the bread like a canoe to get a good balance. Not ideal. They should either change breads/rolls, or double the meat they put in the sandwiches. Which is my other gripe, there's not a lot of meat in the sandwiches. Take a look at the photos... all bread. A good sandwich should hit you with the meat flavor first, accented by the mayo/mustard, then filled in with the cheese and veggies, and just held together by the bread. These sandwiches make you dig through a ton of bread to get to the meat. Which means that even when the meat is hot (like the Vinny Bag o Donuts) your sandwich is cold cause of the bread. Also, I usually have to go next door to the bodega for chips and drinks cause the selection is better, but maybe that will improve. For my taste, they could stand to rethink their whole bread situation, and start constructing sandwiches that make the ingredients the star. Because they have great stuff: good quality meats, good cheeses, good spreads, etc. read more

This was the first place that we tried upon arriving in San Fran. I had an aloe watermelon drink with my Napa sandwich and a post lunch cookie. The ol' ball and chain had the Gouda Good and a cookie and washed it down with a Coke. It was a short walk from our hotel and freaking delicious. I love it when a sandwich shop stands out and you can taste the difference between them and the chains. The people were nice, but keep in mind that this is a small location with limited seating. There were a few tables outside and I don't remember seeing any inside. Luckily the weather was much better here than in Phoenix where we traveled from. I'd go back and try some of the other options on the menu if we returned to San Francisco. Well worth the visit. read more

I ordered the Gouda Good and while I was eating I got a piece of cartilage! I thought one piece isn't bad, but I got a couple pieces of cartilage. I was so annoyed I called the restaurant to talk to them and they said they would call grub hub and get me a refund. I called Grub hub today and they tell me no one has called to talk to them. I never write a post unless I'm very upset and I am upset. This is just bad customer service. And to top it off grub hub Called me back to say the company would give me $5 back when I spent $13. Great sandwich place. Standing room only but tables on the sidewalk if you want to enjoy a delicious sandwich right away. They have many on menu or you can make up your own. I would suggest ordering online as it took about 15 min to make one I offered there. There is no parking. read more

I'm surprised that the reviews here are so good. I've came here twice, just to make sure the first time wasn't a fluke, but the sandwiches here are straight up bad. I've tried maybe 5 or so of the sandwiches here, and the only good one was the firecracker. The second time I came they ran out of bread, so I had the get a wrap. How does a sandwich place even run out of bread? In addition to the wraps, I also got food poisoning the second time I came here, so I definitely won't be giving this place any more chances. read more

Great sandwiches but if you order online or over the phone they never listen to what you want. The entire reason why I love the sandwiches is because of the sauce and I continue to request the sauce of the side and they will just not give it to you and that makes the sandwich dry and not the same. Over the past half dozen of visits, they have repeatedly messed up on my sandwiches (both specialty and make-your-own.) It really makes no difference what time you go in. The sandwiches are also very inconsistent when it comes to warmth--sometimes they're warm, sometimes they're cold. I guess it depends who makes them. Be forewarned: Some of the sandwiches on the menu already comes with a type of bread, but you are not guaranteed you're going to get that bread. I once ordered a specialty sandwich that already comes with dutch crunch and got wheat instead. I am not sure what happened, but always double-check once you order your sandwich. i'm gonna say it...this is the best sandwich i've had in SF. hands down! my favorite sandwich ever is from california sourdough in san jose, but bite almost made me forget about them. i would even go as far to say that the sandwich i had was better than the sandwich spot and ike's. this place is literally a hole in the wall. no place to sit and bordering the tenderloin. come here to grab a sandwich and enjoy it at home. must haves for your sandwich - smoked gouda, dutch crunch and chipotle sauce (not on the menu) read more
