I think this was the best meal I had during my long weekend in Milano. Initially worried because I showed up next door at the Antica Trattoria Della Pesa (a strong recommendation from yesterday's tour guide) and was turned away as I did not have a reservation, the host there pointed me here and said that it is a shared kitchen. Well then.
The Bistrot della Pesa is a lovely restaurant, complete with white linen tablecloths and hefty flatware, nicely decorated and quite comfortable.
The menu is traditional Lombardy (in both Italian and completely translated English) and so I stuck with the classics. A bowl of the Pasta e fagiolo soup ("pasta with beans soup") and then for main course, the Costoletta alla milanese ("Veal cutlet Milanese"). For an extra €5, I decided to have it with the salad (arugula and chopped Roma tomatoes, which was served ON TOP of the cutlet).
The soup was super hot and delicious. I'm afraid I not only ate the entire bowl, I used the bread to scoop up the few drops I couldn't get with the spoon. The cutlet was a big portion, cooked properly.
Yeah, it's not cheap but it was sincerely delicious. Starter, entree and a half bottle of an excellent red Montepulciano, $70. Milan can be expensive but this was a lovely restaurant with great food. I have no complaint here.
