The only reason to come here is for the view from the rooftop terrace. The food and service were mediocre at best. It was our last night in Italy, so we had hoped for something romantic, and this was recommended. However, the fact that it is part of a food court on top of a department store should have been a warning sign. My suggestion is to come take a picture and leave. read more

Live report. I only rate on food 99% of the time. Everyone has an off night. HOWEVER this little Italian kid is a true DICK on another level. Our food showed up before he came back to ask about beverages. We had to get the waiter from the next table to get us water. The winey little boy was upset because we asked too many questions about the entrees. I haven't received my main dish. Ate my appetizer over 20 minutes ago. He hasn't been back yet. The food was Ok. I've never had a true tuna sauce and veal and I truly liked it. Wanted to try it before I attempt to make it. Veal cheeks were ok, rich with minimal flavor. Oso bucco ravioli was ok, needed salt and more flavor. The view might be nice during the day and it's pretty at night but this food was below average for what I expect in Italy. I read tourist trap several times in other reviews and it's 110% accurate. Go upstairs and take a look then eat inside at the conveyor sushi bar. read more

Is it somewhat touristy? Yes. Is the food and drink pretty darn good? Yes. Is the view great? Yes. Overall, Maio has more going for it then against it. The rooftop location right across from the Duomo helps you forget about the few extra Euro you pay for the view. With that said, don't sleep on Maio. It is at the top of a fantastic department store combined with an Italian Eataly. The shopping before and after Maio is nothing to sleep on.. you can buy some pretty awesome Italian items! I would love to say something about food, but I couldn't even get in. We arrived about 6 pm, asked for table for dinner. The girl on reception said, that they will start serve dinner at 7 pm, so we asked for couple drinks and appetizers with good view. It was WAY too sunny today to sit outside so I sat inside and did step out at the end of my meal to admire the view. Great little bread plate while I studied the menu. I went right to the classic Milanese meal and chose the Risotto Alla Milanese. What arrived not long after was a perfectly plated masterpiece. It was delicious. If you're looking for an incredible view of the Duomo cathedral in Milan, this is probably one of the best views out there! This is also probably why it is a total tourist destination and it's nearly impossible to get a walk in table. Just as an FYI though there is a very very strict two hour time limit on the tables and I was actually a bit shocked as some colleagues we were dining with were actually asked to leave at the two hour mark with open bottles of wine in hand. My experience was much better however. They have a menu that is definitely geared more towards tourist and I would not say authentically Italian. They do offer a nice cocktail and beverage menu. Of course everyone comes here for the incredible view which is worth it! This is also conveniently located on the top floor of the shopping mall, and a hidden gem and 'secret' is one floor below where there is a dedicated food and wine area for tastings! We wanted to have a nice view of the Duomo while having lunch. This restaurant is in La Rinascente. It took us a while to realize that we had to go into the shopping center to access the elevator to the restaurant. The dining area is shaded. We had reservations which is highly recommended because the restaurant is in great demand. The food was delicious. We had the Focaccia, Lauretana, Milanese, Riso Pesto, Riso Milano, and Paccheri. The drinks were also quite good. We tried the Brasilian Mojito, Sherbert Fizz, Blue Bird, and Mango Tango. The Brasilian Mojito was the big hit. read more

There is a much smaller meal menu but all food items are well crafted and delicious, however if you're hungry I wouldn't recommend feasting here because prices are generally 20 euros + for a smaller dish size. 100% recommend for drinks! Some of the best I have ever had, and lots of alcohol added inside the cocktails! I'd recommend trying the Moscow mule, green apple cocktail or the monkey one. Great scenic spot to grab a quick bite and drinks. Right beside Duomo, this spot is on the pricier side and the menu is quite small. Drinks are expensive but worth every penny. I got the Moscow Mule two days in a row and let me tell you, they are YUMMY! The drinks here are great, they come with olives, chips and after a certain time (dinner time) you also get a small aperitif with your drink ( a small sandwich with fresh salami, and creamy cheese and a slice of olive bread). I was so impressed with my first meal in Italy, it was amazing! Maio is one of the most attractive restaurants/roof tops right next to the Piazza Duomo, the biggest tourist attraction in Milan. It was a long trip from Chicago to Milan and This place made me forget about my 6 hours delayed flight in Frankfurt. It's so gorgeous and elegant. The restaurant is located on 7th floor and it's part of the nicest and the biggest shopping mall in Milan, La Rinascente. The service was excellent & professional. There was no English menu and I can't read Italian, lol but the staff was very helpful with their suggestion & explanation. Wine list was full of great selected wine but mostly, local wine. I had my favorite, Pinot Grigio & Sauvignon Blank to finish my meal. They were so delightful! I started my meal with Terrine Di Foie-Gras, very rich and delicious. For good snacks, cocktails, and a view of the Duomo, Maio Restaurant at la Rinascente is a must. La Rinascente is a department store, but on the 7° floor, there's a somewhat crowded marketplace with sushi, Italian groceries, and more. Maio is on the way outside to view the Duomo, and there's both interior and patio seating. This time of the year, December, tends to be cold, but we got lucky (?) with unusually warm weather. While this place may be pricier than usual, they're still cheaper than Las Vegas. However, I would advise against all the calls for ordering pizza. Milan, and northern Italy in general, is not a pizza hot spot. If anything else in Milano, get a regional specialty (e.g. risotto). For pizza, look for "Vera Pizza Napolitana" or "VPN" certified joints for the real deal. We got the "Made in Italy" meats and cheeses plate and pizza along with a few local wines - but don't get the pizza. The drinks were great and the service was good overall. We will definitely be back at Maio Restaurant in la Rinascente in Milan, as the view is worth the trip. read more

I went with a group of 5 and the place is very nice with a beautiful view of il duomo. The prices for the food were decent I expected it to be more expensive but it wasn't. But the only thing that I didn't like was our waiter, Mimo, he was very uninterested in being our waiter. He had us waiting for about 15 each time, he wasn't even worried if we were ok with the food or anything. Very bad service from this guy. Another thing was annoying was the bill. Top floor of the Rinacente with an amazing view of the Duomo. The pizza was good but the octopus and potato appetizer was amazingly laid out and was delicious. The rooftop view of the duomo and the piaza just across the street is the main attraction (much of that side of the cathedral happens to be covered and under construction as of Dec 2017). Food and service were both fine. Had the spaghetti and vegetable ravioli. Interesting location on the 7th floor atop a department store. You can only take the elevator to the 6th floor, and then take an escalator to the 7th where the restaurant is, or take escalators the entire way up. read more

Friends and I thought that our last meal in Italy would be great but not so much.. The view of Il Duomo from Maio is incredible as was their dessert but you need to hire better servers. Our waiter, Mimo, shouldn't work in hospitality. From the beginning, he seemed to be bothered. When we finally got our water after 15 minutes, he basically threw it in my glass and served us all 1/4th cup of it. We asked to have each meal on separate bills which takes 2 minutes to do and we were told "there's no way to do that for SIX people" multiple times.. There were clearly five of us at the table. When we got our bill, each meals price was divided by six. The bill made absolutely no sense. In the end, we paid and he proceeded to walk away with the card for about two minutes before realizing.. Maio Restaurant was a great choice with an unbeatable location. We had a few hours to kill in between a flight and a train ride and wanted to see the main landmark in Milan- the Duomo di Milano. The restaurant is located on the top floor of the high-end department store la Rinascente. When we arrived we realized how luxurious this restaurant and the department store really was (which was pretty much a mall of designer only brands). We arrived very early in the morning as la Rinascente Milano was opening and was dressed very casually due to just jumping off a red-eye flight. However, the servers were very kind and charged our phones and held our luggage while we enjoyed our breakfast. It was chilly but on warmer occasions, the restaurant is literally right besides (50 ft?) away from the Duomo and offers a great outdoor space (with heat lamps) and views of the church as well as the square. The food was reasonably priced and the portions were large. One breakfast entrée was good enough for the two us as it included a meal with salad and fruit. After, we were able to visit the church. I can see this spot getting crowded for lunch and dinner with upscale, dressy diners. I would recommend Maio on a visit to Milan. read more
