It's Italian ice cream / gelato. It's almost impossible to leave a bad review! As I walked through the galleria after visiting the Milan Cathedral, it was a hot summers day and my eyes immediately caught sight of a line for ice cream. I bee-lined over the ice cream and even with a line, it moved quickly and everyone was served their ice cream swiftly. A definite must as you peruse the shop displays and architecture within the galleria! I also came back to this spot for dinner. Which ended up being an excellent experience as well! I can't remember if I ordered a la carte or if it was a préfixe menu. I had a glass of white wine with the pate, minestrone soup, and a dessert box. 4/4/24 - We were on a vacation to celebrate our 75th birthdays. Loved the look of this restaurant and back story told by our guide earlier. It was the original restaurant in the beautiful Galleria Vittorio, which has its own wonderful history. Both the Galleria and the restaurant are elegant! It was well passed lunch by USA norms but not yet the typical time for by European standards. We were offered a choice of several tables. We chose the "indoor patio" so we could continue to people watch. The servers are in elegant brocade jackets and very experienced. Ours offered a wine suggestion which we took. Although it was one of the more expensive we thought it a wonderful accompaniment to our meals. As usual in Europe it was as slow or fast paced as you want. The food was not overly large in quantity, but the presentation and flavors were terrific. We really weren't interested in dessert as we planned to walk a lot more after eating and didn't want to be overly full. Our server brought us a box with tiny desserts and we each had one. We guessed it wasn't free, which it wasn't. However it was the sweetest most unusual ending to a delightful dining experience, especially for our birthday celebration! Popped in for a drink because it was so hot out! Our bartender (can't remember his name but he had glasses) was so nice and spoke English with us! My dad had 2 beers and I had 2 cosmos and both great! He made sure to keep us hydrated with water between our drinks and was very entertaining to watch him make drinks! We had better food and service at other restaurants in Milan. Savini is located in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. The setting is lovely and it is fun to people watch, but the food and service were both just okay. The servers are dressed in dark suits, creating an atmosphere of sophistication to compliment the setting, but the service is cold. They are going through the motions to serve the tourists. Several items on the menu were not available the night we ate at Savini. Unfortunately, what was unavailable were the most appealing dishes. The dishes we ordered were fine, but not excellent. Savini is conveniently located and is in a lovely setting, but the food and service left a lot to be desired. They weren't poor, but they weren't great. Eh. We can do better. When I return to Milan, I will keep looking for another centrally-located restaurant to enjoy. read more

We were strolling through and around the Galleria area in the middle of the afternoon when we decided to pause for a drink. One restaurant turned us away saying we had to buy lunch; we couldn't just buy drinks. We moved on, found this place, and we were greeted with open arms even though it had a high end appearance and we feared a snooty reaction. The wait staff were impressive. All were dressed in sharp, well fitting dark suits. They looked dapper and acted professionally. We got our drinks. I had a nice Italian version of champagne and my companion had an incredible hot chocolate. It was thick, dark, and rich. I guess Italians don't believe in drinking without eating so suddenly a nice little tray of small bites was on our table. Then Christmas cookies appeared. I'm sorry I can't report on their dishes but we loved the service, atmosphere, and people watching. It was perfect for our purposes - hence 5 stars. Lunch - Spaghetti with tomato sauce, buffalo mozzarella cheese cream and basil. A very simple dish, with perfectly cooked pasta. The basil could have had a stronger presence. I will make this short. I have been in many 4 and 5 star restaurants. I have also been in tourist trap restaurants. Savini is a tourist trap restaurant. The service is good. Ambiance is plesant. The food was below par. Mind you if you order typical Italian dishes such as pasta, risotto or veal plates. They are well cooked. But if you order out of their range. The food is poorly prepared. I ordered Foie Gras antipasta. It was a moose. Very dry and tasteless. I ordered breast of duck for the main dish. It was overcooked and also tasteless. It is obvious that Savini does not have a chef on staff. They have 2nd grade cooks on staff. Again, if you visit order only pasta dishes or risotto or veal. read more

I have been in Europe for the past 2 weeks and this has been our worst meal yet. From the service to the food it was a disaster. After getting seated we waited approximately 2O min at an empty table with no silverware, napkins or water and I eventually had to find a waiter who was incredibly obnoxious. After pulling teeth to get a drink menu I ordered an old fashioned which was whiskey mixed with water and ice and sugar sitting in the bottom of the glass. Dined here for lunch during my trip to Milan and Expo 2015, in September of 2015. Was seated immediately, as they were not busy at opening time. The service was impeccable, and the food good. Started with a very good Caesar Salad, followed by seafood ravioli as the main course, which I found a bit salty, but that seems to be the norm for northern Italy. Finished off the meal with vanilla Gelato, which was delicious. This is a pricey restaurant, and I ate here mainly because it is the oldest restaurant in Milan, having opened in 1867. It is a nice relaxing place to dine when visiting the Galleria and the sights of central Milan. read more

If i was just rating on food, I'd probably give this place a three star rating, but when I consider the attrocious service, I'm tempted to give them a one star. The place wasn't even busy and the cocktails we ordered at the beginning of dinner didn't come out till after dinner. If I could give this zero stars I would. We spent 400 euros for a less than average meal and the service for Americans is horrible. People around us who had tea and spent a fraction of the price were treated well and we were laughed at and the receipts thrown at us. Worst dining experience in Europe. The treatment of local Italians vs tourists is an absolute disgrace. No opening of door, no offering of taking your coat and no greeting of customers. We sat down for a meal, ordered 2 beers and 2 orange juices and some pasta and pizza. As my mum held the orange juice glass in your hand, the glass shattered cutting her hand and orange juice spilt everywhere. The staff slowly walked over to clean up the table and didn't even apologize or show us the way to the bathroom for clean up. To top it off, the bill came - €24 for 2 beers, €24 for 2 orange juices and €24 for 4 cover charges plus the rest. Then another man walked in, 2 staff just stood there and walked the customer open the door himself. The customer stood in the middle for about 1 minute before one of them went over to greet the customer. Just terrible. Oh!
