A lovely place for a date or meet up with a friend! My friend is vegetarian and was getting tired of the usual Japanese or Mediterranean restaurant options. Bistro Tupaz was a refreshing option and a hidden gem I was not aware of! My friend and I decided to get their Vegenoff and Beef Stroganoff to see if the menu was right to say that the vegetarian version is similar to the meat version. I didn't get try her vegenoff, but it looked really good! Three big meatballs for her and sliced beef for me for the beef stroganoff! Portion sizes were hefty and the patatas bravas on the side was a nice accommodation to the meal! Patatas bravas were nice and crispy and had a good serving of tomato sauce and creamy garlic drizzled. Pasta was cooked perfectly aldente and plentiful pieces of beef for me and a plentiful veggie meatball for my good friend! The garlic bread was good too, but we were so full from the stroganoff that we couldn't finish the bread lol. We came about 1 hour before closing and our server, Jessica (I hope I got her name right), was super sweet and attentive. What a fabulous find! Delightful interior, wonderful service, generous prices (especially relative to price), and an all-around fantastic lunch. Met up with a girlfriend and we went with the owner's recommendations. The soups are so cozy on a cool day. The stroganoff is such perfect comfort food. Plenty of parking, too. Bistro Tupaz is once again in good graces with me. I came here for dinner on a Thursday evening. The service and food were spectacular and exactly what I had experienced before the last (cringeworthy) visit. Renee was our server and she was very attentive throughout our meal. We started off strong with their housemade bread which was warm and toasted, accompanied by their orange marmalade. For my entree, I ordered my go-to Chicken Parmesan Burger with fries. Their aioli sauce pairs so well with their fries but I do occasionally find myself dipping fries into the ketchup served along with the burger. All the food was made hot to order and came out relatively quickly. Having this experience made me realize how Bistro Tupaz's management values customer feedback and putting customers at the forefront. On this return visit, everything was delicious. The freshly made complimentary house breads with marmalade remain impressive as ever, and the dumpling soup was so comforting on a rainy day. Couldn't leave without a slice of tiramisu (and you shouldn't either). And ordered a beef stroganoff for the next day. Everything. Everything went well. I can not, for the life of me understand how in all of My years of yelping I have not ran across Bistro Tupaz. Upon entry we were greeted by a very gentle and kind hostess/waitress Renee. This same lady is responsible for blowing My mind by providing me with the knowledge that the Bistro has been open for 19 years, 15 of which I've resided in San Jo, and I can not recall them ever popping up on a yelp search, and the fabulous Renee informed Me that she hears that a lot. Hopefully, My review changes that! The food is some of the freshest food I've eaten in probably 40 years. It appears everything comes straight from farm to table. The Chicken Dumpling Soup- amazing! The broth, the crunchy celery and carrots, to the ever so fresh and soft dumpling, to the super fresh chicken breast-my GOD, I have not had it so good, and so reasonably priced. If you visit for nothing but the soup you'll be winning! It's the best $8.00 you'll ever spend, and it soothes the soul, much more beneficial than that $8 cup of Jo you get from Starbucks daily! We(the Princess and me) didn't stop at the soup, tho. They offer several vegan options, so My Pescatearean daughter ordered their Veganoff, their Vegan version of Beef Strogonaff. No frozen meatless balls here, but fresh balls that tell a tale after 1 bite, due to the freshness of the ingredients of which they are made. We could taste the mushrooms, black beans, and corn... some of the veggies used to form them. Very good, very flavorful, very fresh! I ordered the kids meal chicken tenders and enjoyed them with the French fries we choose as the side to accompany Renz' entree. We ended our meal with a Tiramisu one would write home about! The cream that topped it was deliciously fresh, and it is just the intro to all the layers that make tiramisu tiramisu. I love the set-up, the seating is private, you can't really see people as they dine from the front counter, but it's a split wing, and offers plenty of seating on both sides. The art work that graces the walls are very nice. There are no corners cut and no half-steppin at the Bistro. I'm excited to try everything on their menu. It's been a long while since we had a meal here. We came for lunch today right when they opened. We were able to pick where we wanted to sit. We were handed menus and cold water was brought for the both of us. They also brought us a complimentary bread basic with homemade mint pesto to spread on it. It was delicious. Everything they make here is from scratch. I decides to try their bistro burger and by husband ordered the Coq au Vin. We also ordered a burrata Capresse salad to share. The salad was so good. The tomatoes were so sweet and it paired well with cheese and fresh basil. My hamburger was just okay. The fries that it came with were perfectly fried and seasoned. I loved them. My husband loved the Coq au Vin. He was surprised at how big the portions were. His meal came with mashed potatoes and a side of seasoned vegetables. The inside is very nice with many seating options. They also have outdoor seating in the back. Our service was very good. I usually get their beef stroganoff when I come. It's the best. Family just had dinner and it was very enjoyable. The complimentary bread was warm and tasty. Ordered a second basket. French onion soup, and fried calamari were excellent. Eggplant parmesan, pappardelle alfredo and the beef stroganoff were very tasty and the quantity was great as we had enough to box for home. Desert was tiramisu and beignets and it was a great way to finish off this nice meal. I was immediately impressed when I walked into Bistro Tupaz. It's nicely decorated with a European feel; very clean and well-maintained. Overall it felt relaxing. We were served complimentary bread a couple of minutes after being seated. The bread came with a nice pesto sauce, but the bread itself was kind of flavorless. We ordered the garlic shrimp as an appetizer. The shrimp was wonderful, but it came with some kind of garlic bread that just tasted 'off.' My friend ordered the Tuscan chicken. He thought it was pretty good, but found the sauce to be too cheesy. I decided to have a hamburger, which was served on a locally baked bun. The fries that accompanied the burger were very good. They came with a spicy catsup and aoli sauces for dipping; both were excellent. Sadly, the burger itself was pretty tasteless, and I did not like the bun at all. The restaurant does not serve alcohol, so I couldn't have wine or beer with my meal. They do have a few non-alcoholic beers, and soft drinks. Service was quick, and the prices were very reasonable. I wanted to like this place. The atmosphere was very pleasant, prices were good, and there were some things about the meal that were really tasty - especially the sauces. But there was also too much about the meal that just wasn't very good, and I doubt I'll go back. WARNING: There is a Bistro Tupaz website that is NOT run by the restaurant. It is very misleading and shows items that are not available at the restaurant. I don't hold this against the restaurant at all - it's not their fault. read more

Been going to this spot for almost 15 years and the food and service is always excellent. So many items are made from scratch and the rotating menu keeps things interesting. The ambiance is super relaxing and the outdoor patio on a nice sunny day is always enjoyable. The owner and his family are wonderful and even though I don't live as close as I used to when I first started going to here, I still make the drive because this place is not only nostalgic but delicious every time! We had a wonderful dinner at Bistro Tupaz on Santa Teresa in San Jose. This is a gem and we were so happy to find it. The food was exceptional, we had the beef stroganoff and Hungarian Goulash, both were very good, flavorful and on a bed of hand made pasta, beautifully plated as well. Each meal came with a side, I picked the chicken dumpling soup which was very well made as well. We added a glass of wine each. The service is very friendly and welcoming. It felt like the best of the Paris neighborhood bistros we visited a few years back. The restaurant is nicely decorated and complements the exceptional food and service. Love love. The side vegetables are perfectly grilled and freshly selected, not the typical boil veggies you get out there. The homemade fries are perfectly light and crispy, I don't eat fries usually and I finished all sweet potato fries here. Ohh the dessert! Absolutely amazing hidden gem. My wife and I tried it out once couple years ago and ordered the beef stroganoff along with some other things and my goodness, absolutely amazing. Any time we come here we each get a meal of our own and order the beef stroganoff on top to split between us as you can't not order it from here. They have been absolutely fantastic with incredible service. It's a nice spot if you want to bring your friends and family, very quiet and peaceful almost dim light atmosphere and even a corner with games to play while your waiting if you want. Only complaint is they're not open everyday morning to close, they have a couple gap hours I believe which stinks as I've wanted to order many times but couldn't since they were not open at that time. read more

Dinner service review: Service was good. They were busy with good hustle. They had a special menu out for Valentine's. I indulged in that while my husband stuck with the regular menu. The quality of food was excellent - no complaints. The plates were pretty and well crafted. What I'm writing the review for is the Valentine's chocolate mousse dessert. It was exceptional. Definitely a rich dark chocolate. If you don't like dark chocolate this will be a bit on the edge for you. This tasted like a dark chocolate truffle. @BistroTupaz: please have that mousse on the regular menu! I'd buy it every time we come for dinner. read more

We have been coming here for years, then Covid hit. We recently came back for the first time since the beginning of Covid and were pleasantly surprised. There have been some changes since the before times. First of all are the uniforms. They have changed. For years, we have referred to this restaurant in our family as "Pirates" because of their old uniforms. They kind of dressed like pirates. Their new uniforms no longer look like those that a pirate would wear but they will forever be referred to as Pirates in our family. In the before times you used to order at the counter and then they would bring it out to you. Now it's 100% table service. What hasn't changed is the great food at reasonable prices. The pictures show the Beef Stroganoff (very good) and the 1 pound of Rib Eye (also delicious). Don't forget to have their fries with the garlic aioli. Very yummy! My wife wants me to point out just how fresh and good the food is. Most everything is homemade right there. They bake the bread, make their own jam, and come up with the best recipes from scratch. They also start off every meal with a bread basket with some of their wonderful jam. In a nutshell, Bistro Tupaz is far above most restaurants in the area when it comes to variety, deliciousness, and value. It's a hidden gem. I pity the fool who doesn't try the Bistro at least once. Cute little neighborhood joint in south San Jose. It is located across from ST high school. We came here years ago and went again this week after randomly passing it. The lady at the front was super nice! She gave us menu recommendation and we ordered and paid for pickup later in the day. Food was ready on time and the pickup process was easy. Here is what we had: Beef stroganoff - 5/5 egg noodles with thin, well-seasoned slices of beef. Delicious comfort food! Chicken parm - 4/5 solid flavor served on a bed of arugula. Didn't taste greasy which is a huge plus with parm. Only downside is that it was a bit salty. Alfredo with shrimp - 5/5 delicious. Pasta tasted fresh and came with a generous serving of perfectly grilled shrimp. All the sides we tried were good - the brussel sprout, fries, and the roasted carrots. I like that they have a good amount of space between all of the tables. The chef who greeted us was so kind. The service was fantastic. We felt incredibly welcomed. They serve complimentary bread that has housemade jam. It was an orange jam when we came that was very good. Faroe Islands Salmon W/ Dill Cream Sauce - The salmon was cooked perfectly. The dill cream sauce as wonderful as well. This dish came with two sides so we picked the alfredo pasta and pomme frites. The pasta was great and the pomme frites were amazing. I appreciated the lighting and decor inside the restaurant and I love that they have an outdoor patio seating option as well. However, the food is very variable depending on what entrée appetizer or drink you get. Our bread was cold and had jam as opposed to pesto like everyone else had, which I'm going to chalk it up to the fact that maybe they ran out of pesto? Anyway, I think I will order something different on the menu because though the entrée I ordered was good, it was a little unevenly cooked. I met a friend here for dinner. I had high hopes for this place based on their menus and reviews I've seen. It ended up being a mixed experience. First and foremost, our waiter was very attentive and friendly. The pasta dishes we tried were also on point. Cook on the pasta was perfect; sauce level was balanced, and shrimps were also cooked perfectly. Brussel sprouts nice and crisp without being burnt. The batter on the calamari was nice and crunchy but a little on the salty side. The dipping sauce was delicious. The actually calamari pieces themselves were sadly a little undercooked and still translucent and soggy. The main reason the food scored lower for me was the ribeye. The menu clearly said that the steaks were grilled. The ribeye I received, while seasoned well, was not what I expected for a grilled steak. The temp was correct but it was very tender with no external sear. It was closer to a prime rib than a seared steak. Some of the delicious delicious ribeye fat did not render and was tough and rubbery still. I will definitely be back again to try other dishes on their menu as they sounded interesting. read more

We've always had great food hear, ever since they opened. The staff have always been very friendly. I don't know if they still allow it, but we used to bring our dog to sit and eat with us in the rear outside patio. My friend and I went in around 8pm looking for something sweet. And Bistro Tupaz was amazing! The bread pudding looked a little plain behind the glass case, but they plated it beautifully with berries, chocolate sauce and powdered sugar. It tastes just as good as it looks. The texture was soft and creamy, with just right the amount of sweetness to satisfy our cravings. We were very impressed by the effort and the service.
