Unique place delivering a great dining experience. We called last minute on a Sat night for a reservation and were given a 7:30 reservation. We arrived early (20 mins) and they were able to seat us right away. The place seemed to have all types of patrons....from date night couples, to families and even larger groups. The beer menu was awesome.....I was like a kid in a candy store. The Fiddler's Dream IPA is a sold choice. We started with the Roca Spread ($7) with Butternut Goat Cheese and Smoked Pimento Cheese as our two selections.....and we really loved it! Update: Not sure how TEN years have gone by since our last visit but we had a wonderful brunch here Sunday 1/26/24. One of the best meals I've had in a long time. EVERYthing was delicious, from the warm bread with pimento cheese & bacon jam (OMG bacon jam) to the wonderfully tender biscuits with gravy and top-tier French toast. Bloody Marys were a meal in themselves and the whole thing was made better by our delightful server Jess (?). Cannot recommend this enough. We have been visiting Blowing Rock several times a year for the last 12 years. Last fall was the first time we came across bistro Roca. It has awesome food choices and the mountain style ambience is amazing. This restaurant is off the main thoroughfare and you pretty much have to know about it in order to find it. It's presence on Yelp helped us out. We've had great service every time we've visited in the past six months. We'll definitely enjoy this establishment on a regular basis. read more

I have visited twice now, once for dinner and once for lunch. Both times the food was absolutely delicious. Service was perfect and atmosphere is kinda rustic but elevated. The menu has a variety and surely something for everyone. For lunch, we had a Burger and the Korean Dip Sandwich with a Caesar salad and a side of Mac n Cheese. Oh my.. yum! My Dirty Martini was spot on. I see why every time we try to make reservations they are full. Love this place. read more

A cozy cabin situated just outside of downtown Blowing Rock, NC, Bistro Roca is a quintessential mountain-town destination for refined dining. A gas fireplace sets the tone for the dining room, while close to a million photos of dogs decorate the walls of the bar (I especially loved this eclectic touch). The server was friendly and checked in often, happy to oblige any requests. The brunch menu offered selections to please a variety of palates, and even the seemingly more mainstream options were delectable. I was in a savory mood, so I went for the cuban crepe. The cheese was melted into the perfectly tender pork, and the white bean and hominy salad (+ the pickle!) was the perfect compliment. I love that boutique restaurants in the area, like this one, feature locally sourced items throughout the menu. Wheelchair/handicap accessibility includes one or two parking spots and a ramp to the main entrance, though it could be a potentially bumpy ride. We were lucky to get a handicap spot just as the restaurant opened, but it may not be easy to get in and out without one. We also asked for a wheelchair accessible table in advance when booking the reservation. I'd recommend planning ahead if someone in your group needs accommodations! read more

Spent some time after dinner in the Antler bar. Great space, such a good vibe. And the dogs..... charming. Interesting and off the beaten path location which seems to be in the middle of a neighborhood. It's got a lot of charm because of the building - almost seems like it was a house?! Nice bar and inside dining area and back porch seating area (which is enclosed completely). Turns out that the back porch is warmer than inside the restaurant! Our server took care of everything with good speed and attention to detail. The food was excellent, although the portions seemed somewhat small, especially for the price. Good selection of beverages: our party of four shared a bottle of Prosecco and I got a draft stout that was particularly good. The wahoo fish special was delicious. Our server was excellent and very sweet. One issue was that we unexpectedly ran into old friends that we hadn't seen in years after we had been seated. Both parties had reservations but the host said he could not seat us together at a table of four, even when we explained that we hadn't seen each other in years. In the meantime a table for two next to us sat empty the entire time that we had our meal. I don't think the host tried very hard to accommodate us and that was a disappointment. read more

Great ambiance. Walked in at 5 pm on a Wednesday in June and the bar was packed. The restaurant quickly filled up while we were there. We sat out on the back porch where you feel like you're dining in a tree house amongst the forrest. Drinks were good. Server was super nice and helpful. My husband loved his burger and baby carrots. We got a table by the bar and fireplace, can't beat that for no reservations. We made reservations on RESY super easily and then walked around beautiful Blowing Rock visiting shops on Main Street until time for our reservation. I had to call to change the number of people in our party a few hours before time, and they graciously accepted the change. We arrived early and sat at the bar until our table was ready. We enjoyed our cocktails very much, really delicious! The appetizers we ordered were all very delicious. Sometimes I love appetizers even better than the entree! We sampled these dishes on our visit: * Roasted figs with Manchego and Honey, wrapped in Proscuitto * ROCA SPREADS: Smoked Pimento Cheese / Smoked Olives / Butternut Goat Cheese/ Beet Hummus / Bacon Jam * Spring Rolls * N.C. I found I'm not crazy about them. They are sticky and sweet and do have a good flavor. The rest of the table absolutely loved them. The spreads were my favorite. Each was so different but complemented each other perfectly. The smoked pimento cheese was tangy and the hint of smokiness was not overwhelming at all. The smoked olives were different and briny. The butternut goat cheese was much milder and lighter than I could have guessed. The beat hummus was about what you'd expect...hummus that tastes like a cellar. But the star was that bacon jam. Sweet, smoky, and tart, it was just perfection. I could have sat there with a vat of that and bread and been perfectly happy. The spring rolls were delicious, but not special. I'd skip those next time to get something more out of the box. I only tried my entree, which was incredible: the crabcakes. The creamy polenta was so smooth and lighter to me than mashed potatoes or grits. Perfect! The crab cakes are full of crab and light on filler, so that is lovely. I loved the miso truffle aioli that was dotted on the plate, it had notes of black olive. Out of all of the desserts, I thought the bread pudding was the best. Such a great flavor and that dish is always so comforting. The Oatmeal bar was just ok, I ate a few bites of it and left most there. Would 100% skip next time. The basque cheesecake was yummy, and not really too burnt on top. It is not as sweet as traditional cheesecake if that's your thing. They found a safe spot in the corner of the restaurant away from the mainstream traffic. The food was delicious and paced appropriately between dishes. We started with Shrimp and mozzarella sticks for appetizers, both were delicious. Followed by French onion soup which I found a tad salty, but my partner did not. I had the Spinach lasagna and my partner had clams with linguini. Both main meals were good, but not great. We drove 2 hours to see the Blowing Rock. After researching where to eat on Google, I decided to make reservations here. But after reading some of the reviews on Yelp, we almost canceled. I'm so happy we did not. We arrived 15 min before our reservation time. Checked in and waited in the bar area, which was quite interesting and casual. Dog lovers own the place! Dog pics everywhere. Rustic atmosphere and kind staff. The husband ordered the black and blue ribeye cooked medium. Eggplant fries recommended by the waitor were surprisingly light. Creamy on the inside and served with this honey mustard kind of dip. It's just awesome! The Bleu cheese and butter wasn't chunky and mild. It added depth to the char broiled steak cooked perfectly! So much flavor! Opted for fries, which were different and great. Ordered the Habi Burger, which was said to be on the menu 15-20 years; our waitors first pick! Charbroiled burger glazed with a habanero glaze - it was aaaahhhhhmmmazing! It's not too spicy, just the right amount of flavor. The Mac and cheese side was an up charge of $2 but so worth it. Bun compressed nicely. Thick fresh tomato and crisp lettuce. They pride themselves in using local ingredients from local vendors; there's even a box on the menu showing these businesses. The waitor was amazing, too. Never had to wait for a drink and check back after we tasted our food. The bistro was packed, but we didn't feel rushed at all. The patio I read negative reviews about was a room added on maybe with half the walls, actual walls, and windows that line 3 of the walls. It was really nice. The only drawback was parking, but just before the restaurant, there's a 'park' that you can explore before or after your visit. It's totally worth the drive! read more

KERMIT LYNCH COTES DU RHONE is simply delightful paired with their wonderful selection of tasty food. I had the Thai salmon and the request for rare was honored with grace and precision. The sauce is element, not overpowering, and the nuts offer a sweet crunch. The other half asked that the pork similarly be rare and, oh my, pink throughout and warm, just nailed it. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Blowing Rock. We've only done takeout and I can only imagine how delicious the food would taste fresh at the restaurant. Note this place is busy so try to make reservations a few weeks ahead of time. This place actually has a great kids menu. They have a pick two option where you can choose any 2 items from the kids menu - this includes a small pan seared salmon, chicken tenders, grilled chicken, grilled cheese sandwich, mashed potatoes, Mac & cheese to name a few. So disappointed tonight. I've eaten here dozens of times over the past 20 years. My brother has a house in Blowing Rock and we were visiting him this weekend. We typically eat in the bar, and the service is always excellent. Tonight we made a 6:30 reservation and ate in the dining room. We ordered two specials: the octopus app and a cup of the turnip chorizo soup. The octopus came out and was very good. We never got the soup. For dinner, we ordered the Lobster Mac, a burger and the Brisket. When we ordered the burger, we made a point of stressing that if it didn't come out pink in the middle, we were sending it back. The burger & brisket came out. The brisket was room temp and the burger was grey, so it went back. The replacement burger came out before the Lobster Mac. We were comped two desserts, which were yummy, but the dining experience tonight was very disappointing. As an aside, I wanted to order a bourbon prior to our meal and our server had no idea what was available behind the bar. She "checked" and came back with four bourbon options. After I ordered, I went to the bar and there were five other bourbons, two top shelf, that she didn't mention. The servers need a cheat sheet or a spirit list should be provided at the table. Tonight, they were busy and we were told they were "training" in the kitchen. That's not my problem and it doesn't change my expectations. Comping the desserts was a very nice touch by our server, but it didn't make up for the failures by the kitchen. read more

Definitely a place to go when visiting Blowing Rock. The restaurant is slightly off the Main Street but easy to get to. Would definitely recommend a reservation as it is popular amongst visitors and locals. The food was fantastic and our table side server was great. I didn't give this 5 stars because we ordered cocktails while waiting for our table and the bar service was lacking in friendliness and ability. I couldn't drink my drink as it was not good. I seriously thought I had reviewed this place already! We were here last year and had the eggplant fries which were great. I had the trout which tasted good but didn't come with enough sauce so it was dry! Hubby had a steak at the time that was delicious with its success but is no longer on the menu! At that time we had a peanut butter pie dessert that I actually really liked! This time we got takeout and I ordered the crabcake's but instead of polenta I got coleslaw and a side Caesar salad too. The crabcake's were delicious and so was the coleslaw but there were only 2 sucks of asparagus and like less than a handful of the corn so that was disappointing! Also the whole thing cost $40 which is ridiculous for just one entree with meager sides and a side salad!!! Hence the three stars!! read more
