    Gambetto Special
    Daniela G.

Lovely power lunch spot. Al fresco, wide sidewalk so you don't have cars honking next to you. I had the Gambetto special (4 shrimps with vegetables) which was a good portion as I was not hungry. Others got the salmon penne pasta special and fruti di mare spaghetti. The pasta portions were very generous and highly recommended. They are renovating the indoor area, so it is great because you know you are getting a table outside this summer :) Service was very good. Bread, olive oil and balsamic (so good I could have that balsamic by itself!) were served right away as we sat. 100% recommend for sit-down lunch or after work dinner in Midtown. Note for restaurant: Bring back the lunch prix-fixe special!

    Yummy and large seafood risotto

This is definitely a place for business lunches. However that being said, I've found the food to be quite wonderful and the servers always have a warm attitude. Plus when it's warmer out the patio is a nice area to sit in. They seem to do seafood well and from the calamari appetizers to the seafood risotto, they were all delicious and generously portioned. A few of their pastas are made fresh and the linguine was definitely one of the better pastas I've had recently. For dessert, they have gelato and affogato that are pretty spot on. The only thing I'd lament is their pricing. This is defiantly a more expensive meal as the pastas are $25 and up so keep that in mind.

I don't know why we keep coming here. This is your stereotypical garden variety Midtown Italian that has no distinguishing features and the food is also straight down the middle of the road. I guess the outdoor seating can be an attraction for those who want to bake themselves in the sun. We used to live across the street so this used to be the lazy choice if we did not want to go beyond our immediate neighborhood, and to be fair compared to the other selections up an down the street in a five-block radius this one is probably modestly above average. That said the relative comparison versus other under performers does not a good destination restaurant make and Milano is definitely not somewhere you think about going if you happen to be more than 2 blocks away. The service however is very efficient and courteous, and the staff make sure that you are well taken care of, that in my mind helped to prop up the rating a bit. Also on the menu, they make sure to highlight that the pasta is made fresh on the premises - which if I take at face value places this place above the run of the mill place slinging prefab out-of-the-box pasta.

Let me start by saying I'm a tough critic and to get a 5 it would have to be absolutely fab from start to finish! Bistro Milano was very good and I would recommend. Very nice daily specials for wine and food, had a great super Tuscan on the daily special at a decent price. Service even at a busy lunch hour was super efficient and fast. My wife had a bolognese that was rich and delicious, I had the short rib sauce and the pasta was homemade and cooked perfectly. We finished with the Fondue con cioccolato bianco that needed to have the 'fondue' warmer but the cappuccino was great. Would I tell you to drive in from Brooklyn to go there, probably not. Would I say if you are in the area go there, Definitely!

If you like pasta and don't mind spending 20 or more than you will like it here. The service and food was good but I don't believe it's worth the price. I've had meals that tasted just as good for half the price at other places. I'm not a wine drinker but I tried some and it was good. The bread was a bit hard but tasted fine. Nice little place to visit.

The food here is pretty good, steep price tag and small portions, but good. You start off with an assorted bread basket and olive oil/ balsamic vinegar. The calamari is definitely unique in that many people are used to the fried version. However, the pistachio flavors nicely complement the crispness of the squid and the dish does work. They only give you four pieces though so if you are with a table of more people, you might have to more food. My favorite part of meal was definitely the Tagliatelle Verdi Paglia E Fieno it is DELICIOUS. It's basically a fancy spin on pasta carbonara except more fresh and authentic. The pasta is made on premises and you can never go wrong with prosciutto and cream sauce. If you were deciding between dishes get the tagliatelle and you won't regret it. I tried Mezze Lune Di Vitello which was ravioli with veal- and it wasn't bad. But the sauce is so overpowering with flavor and the ravioli itself was so salty that both flavors combined were VERY salty. Should it be less salty the dish would be more tasty. My father loves their tiramisu and they have a lot of dessert options even for lunch and it is a popular place for business lunches. Overall, small portions, pricey food, but pretty good if you were willing to pay the price tag.

Party of 3 for dinner. A bit off the beaten path and hard to see if you blink. Warm welcome by hostess. Nice ambiance. Not too noisy. Waitress was a bit short with some audible sighs as we selected meals and wines, albeit slowly Food: Tagliatelle was amazingly delicious. Perfectly cooked. Definitely the star dish of the evening from our selections Lasagna was good. Had a savory spice that took some getting used to. "Salad" was definitely not a dinner portion or a salad really. It was a small drizzle of lettuce on a plate. Added chicken which was shoved on the side (see pics). Overall, the pasta is probably very safe and delicious. Service from our server in particular hold have been better. Would return.

    Rigatoni alla Bolognese

Same great outdoor atmosphere. RIGATONI BOLOGNESE: We both had the rigatoni alla bolognese. It was very good but needed more sauce. Plus, I'm not Italian, nor am I an expert on Italian food... So I googled "rigatoni". It looked like penne, so I thought I'd be fine with it, but each noodle was about 1.5" x 1.5" and very thick. I think Penne would've been more tender. All that said, I'd order it again, with extra sauce and maybe regular spaghetti noodles. DESSERT: We shared the chocolate and fruit fondue. It is both white and milk chocolate in the same dish side by side. I was concerned that it was not going to be enough chocolate for all the fruit, but it was plenty, with chocolate left over.

It was hard to find gps wise if you've never been there, I went past it by a city block. It's located in a gigantic plaza that you get to by the stairs outside. There was free wine in the elevator that you really couldn't see in (very dark) I didn't indulge in it the first time. It was pretty busy inside, since I was a party of 1, I asked if it's mandatory to sit by the bar and it wasn't. I was seated on the left side across from the bar at a smaller table by the window. At first I was bothered by the foot traffic behind me but pushed the table further in & felt better. Now for the food: I ordered the caramelized onion torta and listen it was wayy too rich for just one person, this is definitely a sharing appetizer for dare I say minimum 3 people. The richness was definitely overkill, I brought my own sparkling water but ordered an Arnold Palmer to calm down that flavor. While it had a good crust on the cheese and nice pastry on the bottom, I wish I had ordered something else. Quite expensive to not enjoy it (5/10). I passed on the vegetable part of the menu. Entree: Cavatelli Allo Scoglio, so delicious. I've never had that type of pasta in a dish before but it compliments it well, cooked to perfection. It comes with plenty of crab and the lemon zest balanced the dish just right against the acids of the tomatoes. (9/10) Dessert: I was torn if I should order dessert or not but what's a meal without sweets. They had plenty of gelato flavors but I decided to go with hazelnut and man I was not disappointed. BEST gelato I've ever had. It was so creamy and delectable that I still think about it to this day. The cup it comes in seems small but they pack it with more than you think. I almost passed on the candied hazelnuts on top but please don't do it lol, chefs kiss just perfect. (10/10) On the way out I was going to try the wine and grabbed a glass but again in the dark elevator I turned on my flashlight to see the cups there were all used. I think they should come around often to leave clean glasses or put up a sign to identify which are clean and which aren't. Overall I'd return for the entree and dessert and maybe try a vegetable option over the other appetizers. Also, props to my waiter for being attentive and kind.

There are numerous locations now in the city but this was my first time going and I was definitely eyeing it for awhile. They do weekday lunch specials of $14 pastas, boozey weekend brunches for around $24/25(not including food), and $12 Sunday dinner specials on entrees as well as happy hours on weekdays from 4-7pm that include: $7 snacks, $8 wine, $5 beer, $9 spritzes, and $9 wells. I happened to come in for Labor Day Brunch on Saturday. We both said we were going to do unlimited but honestly could only finish about a pitcher of mimosa and they only charged us for the one pitcher was the nice part. I went with Carbonara Pasta and my boyfriend had the egg, bacon, and cheese sandwich with fries. I'm not gonna lie, I've never gone to aycd brunch and have not finished my food but I could not finish my entree it was so massive and filling. I haven't had a pasta this rich in ages and it was so so good and I am all for not having those skimpy little portions. He couldn't finish his sandwich either. I tried one of the fries and it was nicely battered thick cut wedge fries. Maybe I haven't been eating out alot lately but I was legit impressed. The staff was wonderful and thoughtful. The cafe in itself is very cute and Italian with black and white marble in the bathrooms, white marble bar top, hanging plants, interesting light fixtures. I'm definitely going to make a point to come back soon.

This means those dishes aren't truly gluten free for people with celiac disease or anyone who has to avoid gluten. When I pointed that out to my server, he just gave me a blank stare. I tried to explain why labeling those items as gluten free is misleading, but he seemed completely disinterested, even annoyed, dismissed what I was saying, and simply responded that the pasta is gluten free. I acknowledged that the server doesn't write the menu, but absolutely zero customer service skills. The service overall was lacking. Aside from taking our order, no one checked on us or came back to see if we needed anything. Our server was just hanging out chatting up the hostess. We had to request the bill from the manager & paid at the hostess stand. Before paying, I spoke with the manager and explained what had occured. He was more professional than the server, but he was still dismissive of my concerns and of the service we received. Management seemed happy enough to promote the "option". The food was okay, definitely not enough to make up for the poor service and handling of a serious dietary issue. Needless to say I will not be returning.

The interior was completely packed, and the noise level was high enough for my smart watch to complain. To sample a bit of everything, we shared two orders of focaccia, four pastas, and one dessert. HOUSE-MADE FOCACCIA - 10 Super bouncy with a bit of chew, this was probably the best focaccia I've ever eaten. It came generously drizzled with olive oil and alongside chopped peppers drenched in even more olive oil, which added a nice little kick. We highly recommend starting with this. TAGLIATELLE - 27 Out of the four pastas, this was my absolute favorite. I love the thin yet chewy texture of the tagliatelle, and the bolognese sauce was rich and hearty. Finished with just the right amount of Parmigiano, both the pasta texture and sauce were sheer perfection. PICI 'CACIO E PEPE' - 23 This was such a simple pasta, yet so delicious. It was incredibly creamy and cheesy, with hints of fresh black pepper flavor that blew standard at-home black pepper grinders out of the water. Despite it being the simplest pasta of the night, I enjoyed it immensely. RIGATONI - 32 This pasta was simple yet slightly innovative, featuring sausage paired with a broccoli-based pesto. There was a slight bitterness that was polarizing among our group. While this wasn't my favorite pasta, I appreciated the creativity. PERCIATELLI NERO - 35 This dish packed in more components than just pasta and sauce: plenty of crab, tomatoes, and crispy breadcrumbs on top. However, the combination wasn't very memorable. None of the flavors really stood out, and it was my least favorite pasta of the night. OLIVE OIL CAKE - 14 Served with a pile of golden raisins and fancy whipped cream, this ended up being a bit of a miss. The raisins were a bit too sweet, and the cake's texture was uneven -- some bites were soft and moist, while others felt dry. A couple of others in my group also felt the same way. Overall, I'd give L'Artusi a 4.5/5; it was mostly hits with a couple of misses. The pasta portions are quite small. Since each dish is primarily carbs and sauce, I'd imagine you'll likely need an appetizer or a pasta and a half to leave full. Still, I'd definitely come back for the focaccia, tagliatelle, and the cacio e pepe.

There are several places around the city that I feel can deliver a similar meal and experience without quite as much hype. That's not to say I didn't enjoy L'Artusi, because I absolutely did. It just didn't separate itself from some of the other really good Italian restaurants I've visited. Service was great, the atmosphere was nice, and overall we had a very enjoyable dinner.
