Food was prepared beautifully. Serving is very good and generous. Ambience is French cuisine elegant. I love the taste and texture of everything. So nice!

True story, Kelly and I planned a vacation in San Diego specifically to eat at Bistro Du Marche after mutual friend raved about it. We were not disappointed. Everything was perfect, from our reception by the Maitre'd to leisurely apertifs awaiting our ride. The food was exquisite - escargot, Blue Crab salad with coconut milk emulsion (otherworldly), duck duo - leg confit & roast breast, and beef tenderloin - all delicious and perfectly executed. Profiteroles for dessert. Well curated wine list, predominantly French, with several Rhone options. We splurged on a Cote Rotie and it delivered - earthy, chewy and elegant. Delightful cocktails, and a friendly staff. Kelly liked her Chartreuse Mule so much we charmed the bartender (who was also from Chicago), to sharing his recipe. Mum's the word! The decor is casual and fun - bar and banquette up front, dining room beyond. Vintage French posters abound.

We've been back a few times now, and our experience with service the first time was definitely an anomaly. Service had been great! Most recently we tried the caviar appetizer and it was very good. Pretty good quality caviar. It came with both little toasts and Bellinis which we enjoyed. I also tried a french 75 and it was super good! My husband had the Ossobuco special and said it was good too!

    French onion soup- delicious.

One of our favorite restaurants in San Diego- very romantic spot. Everything here is amazing and the service is always fantastic! Some of our favorite items are the escargot, scallops, steak, salmon, crème brûlée, and fresh baguette. I also appreciate their beer selection- they always have a couple great Belgians to choose from.

Hubs took me for our anniversary. I love French food and it was a special treat. Although I don't drink, big variety of wine selection must fulfill a lot of customers. Mood was right, service was amazing and food was excellent.

Signature pour commencer (appetizers), hearty plats principaux (entrées), and classic desserts done very well at this neighborhood French bistro! Appreciated the Art Deco touches in the restaurant's understated design too. We got off to a fantastic start with the rich Wild Mushroom Ravioli with Port Sauce and Parmigiano Reggiano and refreshing Blue Crab & Mango Salad with Coconut Milk & Lime Emulsion to share along with a complimentary, freshly baked tower of house bread. I enjoyed both the presentation and taste of my Mediterranean Branzino with Potato Scales, Spring Vegetables, Fresh Herbs Salad, and Beurre Blanc, while my companions eagerly devoured their Duck Leg Confit with Mashed Potato and Market Vegetables and Wagyu Beef Top Blade Braised in Red Burgundy Wine Sauce, Yukon Gold Mashed Potato, and Spring Vegetables. Profiteroles with Grand Marnier Ice Cream, Warm Chocolate Sauce, and Almonds offered the perfect sweet ending to an impeccably cooked meal. Service was typically French as well, which is to say be prepared for a 2-3 hour dinner... ;) With good food among good company, I don't consider this a negative at all!

Wonderful dinner here last weekend. We came in earlier than our reservation and still got seated quickly even though the dining room was already full. The service was great. Helpful for wine and food recommendations, lots of great French dishes, some with a twist and some very classic. You can definitely plan to come here for a great French meal and awesome wine selection. Don't miss out on the endive salad. It's light, refreshing and then the Gorgonzola gives it a creamy bite!

This appetizer was off "today's special" and I've forgotten the name... filo dough had cheese inside and was absolutely delicious

Amazing authentic French restaurant. So glad I tried this establishment. Service is great, atmosphere is nice (very elegant and sophisticated), and the food they serve is simply magical. I've had their "Saint Jacques du Maine, Risotto de Petits Pois, Asperges" (English: Maine Diver Scallops, English Peas Risotto, Asparagus). The scallops were very sweet and tender, and the risotto was so tasty- I could simply taste the deliciousness of the fresh peas they use. I absolutely loved it. Can't wait to go back to try more of their different things in the menu :) definitely recommend but don't forget to make a reservation especially on weekends.

Perfect food, spectacular service. I was in town for a conference & dined alone at the bar. Julian was so kind and attentive. A highlight of my trip to San Diego & I will definitely return!

From their well oiled service to so many outstanding dishes, Marché was a five star from start to finish. Just magical. Food highlights: Foie Terrine Scallops and Risotto Steak au Poivre So many other amazing plates but these left me craving more. Looking forward to another occasion to celebrate at Marché. Unassuming bistro atmosphere where you can find top notch, very approachable, provincial French cuisine. They serve a mix of French comfort food and more upscale creations on the menu such as the crab and mango salad served with a coconut milk foam emulsion. Their version of beef bourguignon was hearty, flavorful and tender. Portions are larger than upscale French restaurants, which is a welcome change if you're a hearty eater like me. Service was attentive and excellent.

We absolutely luv a nice, casual French bistro experience and Bistro du Marché didn't disappoint! Our server, Tomas was excellent, definitely knew the menu well and easy very helpful! They had so many amazing items on the menu, it was hard to decide, so I let him pick for me and he did a great job! Their grilled shrimp "cocktail" appetizer is highly recommended... it's not the typical shrimp cocktail tho, it's grilled with an amazing sauce and a small, tasty salad. The shrimp was perfectly seasoned and prepared! Wine list is very nice here too, and save room for dessert, there's plenty worth trying! Highly recommend making reservations for a really good dinner here!

My mom & I had a girls' night out on Friday. Before going to a comedy show we decided to have a meal at the Bistro. We really enjoyed our dinner. Service was impeccable, atmosphere classy yet lively, and the food was delicious. We ordered wine & were given some complimentary bread & butter . Their menu was filled with many wonderful items which made it hard to decide. For an appetizer we shared escargots. They weren't served in their shells as we prefer, nevertheless were very delicious. For entree I ordered lamb chops. They were cooked medium rare & were accompanied by ratatouille. Mom had scallops with peas risotto & asparagus. Both dishes had beautiful presentation & were very delectable. Their dessert menu looked quite enticing but we were pretty full & only ordered some sorbet as pallet cleanser. Overall we had a wonderful experience & will definitely be back to try other things on the menu.

The place was lively, but luck was on our side: one perfect booth remained for the four of us sweet seekers. We settled in and immediately starting gabbing (versus checking out the menu). George came over to take our order. Without even glancing at the dessert menu (a bold move, I'll admit), I asked for one of each dessert to share--paired, of course, with a couple glasses of Scarpetta Rosé bubbles (okay so I glanced at te wine menu). Priorities . What arrived was equal parts surprise and delight. First, a charming little glass jar filled with lightly whipped crème fraîche and topped with salted caramel--simple, elegant, and absolutely delicious. And then... the "hamburger." Cue the table going completely silent. Naturally, we had questions. Our server walked us through this masterpiece from the bottom up: a golden caramel cake "bun," topped with a chocolate-coated ice cream "patty," a delicate mango gelée "cheese," and even "pickles" made from matcha cake. Finished with a second warm cake layer and a touch of garnish we were too excited to fully catch--because at that point, we were already diving in. The contrast of warm cake, cool ice cream, and rich chocolate was nothing short of fantastic. Playful, unexpected, and genuinely delicious--exactly the kind of dessert experience you hope to stumble upon. Thank you, The Whaling Bar, for the sweet surprises. We'll absolutely be back--next time for martinis, and I've already been told the duck meatballs are not to be missed.

We called to add a couple extra people, and then those people didn't show; they rolled with the punches. The table was set when we got there. Service throughout was friendly, prompt, over and above. Ambiance was great, in a very important way: There was nice music, but you could hear yourself think! Nobody had to repeat themselves a million times. Perfect sound level for a group our size. But the food was the absolute star of the show. Literally everything was perfect. For shareable appetizers, we got both the trio and the mezze plate. It was basically hummus flights, with pita triangles and multicolored carrots. All the hummus types were delicious. But a special shout-out to the truffle hummus--it was divine. It was very truffle-y, but it was also very light and creamy. Somehow that's not a combo I expected. Next, I'm already a falafel fan, but good *Lord* their falafel was unreal. Some kind of perfect crispiness on the outside and soft flakiness inside that I've never experienced before in falafel. I asked the server what he'd recommend, and he said beef kebab. I got the beef kebab. He was not wrong. The meat itself was sumptuous. And I just moved from Texas, where every other backyard BBQ has someone smoking their brisket for 18 hours. This was the kind of cook where even the marbling melts in your mouth. Even the carrots were good, I don't know what to tell ya. 10/10.

We ordered the hamachi, sourdough, steak frites and the Cacio e Pepe to share. Hamachi had good flavor, but there was a noticeably fishy aftertaste - more than expected ($36) Sourdough came out hot and was tasty, but both the bread and butter were over salted. I tend to like salt more than most and even for me it was a bit much ($15) Steak Frites were the most disappointing. For $77, the portion was small and the steak wasn't particularly tender, but it was edible. The fries were also heavily salted to the point that we couldn't finish them. Cacio e Pepe was probably our favorite but if I'm going to go off of preference here, the tagliatelle was thinner than we prefer for a sauce that rich. Also, $40 for cheese and pepper will never make sense to me - even if it's premium. Overall, a nice setting and good service but I really just felt the food didn't live up to the price point.

Overall, the food and experience felt average to me, which is why I landed at 3 stars. Not bad, just okay. I had no prior knowledge of the restaurant, their brand, popular menu items, or social media presence. To be fair, doing a bit more research beforehand might have helped me get more out of the experience and try what they're best known for. This is a casual neighborhood spot, so there's no need to dress up. Their tagline, "Where the locals eat," fits the vibe well. The staff are friendly. An older woman was kind and social. She showered me in compliments and the spent some time chatting with the table next to us. It gave the place a neighborhood, familial feel where the staff seem comfortable engaging with guests. Our server was polite, though a bit rushed. He would check in, start a conversation, and then quickly move on mid-sentence. I ordered the Malbec, Antigal (Argentina). It's a $15 bottle retail and priced at $15 per glass. We ordered the Mussels and Focaccia bread as an appetizer. The broth was a bit on the salty side, though the fries on top were cooked well. The bread felt a little firm and could have been fresher. If you're seated at a 2-person table, space can be tight once both appetizers and entrees arrive. We ended up moving to a larger table to accommodate everything. The portion sizes and plates are large and can be shared among 2-3 people. I ordered the Rigatoni Bolognese, which was underwhelming for me. My husband ordered the 24-Hour Braised Beef Short Ribs and really enjoyed them. He said they were tender and flavorful. For our special occasion, we were treated to their homemade mud pie dessert. It's a coffee flavored ice cream with an Oreo crumb crust topped with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. The portion was very HUGE and more than we could finish. It became a bit repetitive after a few bites. The slice portion can be shared up to 3-4 people, in my opinion. If I were to return, I'd be interested in trying some of the dishes they highlight on social media rather than sticking to the more standard Italian options.
