Went for a banquet catered by the restaurant at the adjacent hotel. The food is quite good and seasoned perfectly. Even though it was fairly standard fare of arugula salad, filet, and molten chocolate cake, it was quite good and was better than what you'd get at most large steakhouses. Looking forward to coming back and sampling some of their more adventurous dishes.

Trinidad sour. Yum! Most interesting cocktail selection here in a while.

Fabulous visit to Nine-Ten, which reminded me why it has been one of our favorites since it opened. It blows my mind also that Chef Jason Knibb has now been here for 23 years. It says something about the owners that there is been no turnover and he's been able to keep innovating with Chef Jose Alonzo now as the long-term pastry chef. All right - to our meal! PATIO: remains great. It's covered, which is great on a rainy night, heaters work well. The wind from the ocean can still be a lot, so bring layers anyway. SERVICE: We had Quinn this visit. He was terrific! Really great recommendations. COCKTAIL: I have often found the cocktail menus here boring compared to other places in town. This month, there were so many choices that looked really innovative and up my alley. I was deciding between Lion's Tail (Bourbon, Allspice Dram, Lime, Angostura), Trinidad Sour (Angostura Bitters, Rye Whiskey, Orgeat, Lemon), and Crescent City (Smith + Cross Jamaican Rum, Sweet Vermouth, Lime, Angostura). Quinn suggested that the TRINIDAD SOUR was the most interesting given how I described my cocktail preferences - he explained that it was made with a full ounce of angostura bitters, whereas most cocktails have only a dash. It came in a super cute up glass, and was really delightful. Didn't know my socks off but it was fun & tasty and innovative. Yum! 9/10 BREAD: I'm trying to go lower carb, but their sourdough country bread was warm and hearty. I had a teeny piece and spouse enjoyed the rest. APPETIZERS: Spouse got an off-menu item, the simple green salad with champagne vinaigrette you can always ask for her. I got the current incarnation of the TUNA CRUDO (Charred brassicas relish, currants, lime segments, aleppo, radish flowers, fresno chile, kombu oil). It was beautifully presented and fun to eat; healthy and light. The brassico relish and currants on the tuna were a really nice combination. I approve! 9/10 ENTREES: I got the current halibut preparation (they always have halibut on the menu but they mix up how they do it): Yu choy, black trumpet mushroom, spring onions, date puree, buddhas hand marmalade, sumac, sunflower, green garlic dashi emulsion. Gorgeous, and who needs carbs! The fish was perfectly cooked and the other things worked really well with it: 9/10 WINE PAIRING: I decided to get a glass to drink with the halibut. Quinn suggested pairing it with a gruner veltliner - he said they had been playing around with pairings and this was a surprising match. It was a super fun food wine (also one of the cheaper wines by the glass, $15) and worked really well. I sipped it without the halibut, meh, not my kind of wine - but as soon as I was drinking it with the halibut (and then with my dessert), it was super delish and paired well. 10/10 here on the pairing. DESSERT: I love Chef Jose Alonzo's more fanciful creations, but we went old school & got the half baked chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream, which is a classic here for the reason. It's not like you never had this dessert before - but it is *perfection* here. The chocolate was really rich - and the ice cream is just the ideal texture and flavor. The vanilla bean comes through strongly and it's perfectly smooth. 10/10 to end the meal. Valets and hostess were nice too. We'll be back again, of course, even if it takes us a few months to put it back in the rotation!

I was in La Jolla for a little birthday getaway. I searched Yelp for recommendations and Nine-Ten caught my attention. We ordered Adobada Shrimp tacos and Jamaican Jerk Pork Belly entrees. My compliments to the chef on the sauces used for both dishes. 1. The Shrimp tacos were served on a thick and soft corn tortilla that had been seared with cheese that formed a nice crunchy bed to place the Shrimp on. An avocado sauce and salsa toppings were fabulous. I have eaten hundreds of shrimp tacos in my day, these were the best I EVER ate. 2. The Pork Belly had a nice spicy kick along with black-eyed peas, sweet potato puree, and carrots. The pork was perfectly seasoned that was nice and crispy outside and tender inside. The service was quick, the staff were attentive and checked on us throughout the meal, filling water glasses without being asked or prompted to do so. The restaurant is inside a hotel, nicely decorated for Christmas in the lobby entrance. We had a nice covered patio table, with a poolside view on a sunny day. I highly recommend bookmarking this restaurant for any occasion. Sincerely, Rosemary

My boyfriend and I made a reservation here since we were staying at the hotel for our anniversary and it was one of our favorite experiences of the entire trip. We booked for the Mercy of the Chef prix-fixe menu as well as the wine pairing. Each dish we had was so flavorful and unique and it just kept getting better every time! Compliments to the chef, seriously haha. Also, the service was amazing and we felt really taken care of for our anniversary. Would love to return to try to rest of the menu next time. Cannot recommend enough.

We are at 9:10 Prospect. This is such a beautiful part of La Jolla. They have a beautiful bar here and food starts at 5 PM. There is a view to the ocean. Service is on point

Absolutely loved this restaurant! We came here since it was on the list of restaurants for Chase Sapphire Reserve on Open Table and I was honestly blown away. We shared sourdough bread, cacio e pepe, hamachi sashimi, pork belly, and scallops. This was more than enough for 2 of us and we were full even before the scallops came. Everything was absolutely delicious. We enjoyed all the dishes we got but my favorite were the hamachi sashimi (so fresh and a balanced citrus flavor!) and the cacio e pepe (really great flavor and texture). We didn't get to try dessert because we were so full but would love to next time. Service was really kind and attentive. Our server said he's worked at many high end restaurants but this one was top notch and I can totally see that from our experience with the food and service. This is a great spot to come to for a nice occasion and you can make reservations online with Open Table. Street parking only in La Jolla so make sure to buffer that in for timing.

Came here for a date night with my wife on a Sunday evening after thanksgiving and we were fortunate to have a spot available an hour after deciding where to eat. Our server was very nice and attentive so kudos to the server! The scallops were very delicious and nice hint of citrus that was great. The hamachi was my favorite with a nice savory punch from the sauce smoothened out by the hamachi. The cacio y Pepe was an excellent dish for mushroom lovers and our waiter's suggestions to get the sourdough bread to dip into the sauce was on point. The bread was some of the best bread I've had both in texture and taste. We got the pork belly as well but I'm not as big of a fan of pork belly. The pieces had more fat than I'd like but that's pork belly! Definitely would come back to try other dishes.

One of the more disappointing fine dining experiences in La Jolla. Came here for a group dinner for a meeting/talk on a weekday, so options were limited. We all started with the salad, which was by far the most uninspiring of the night. It was just chopped lettuce sprinkled with maybe some vinaigrette and called it a day. There's maybe a spinach leaf or two, but the variety of vegetables or texture or flavor is utterly lacking. For the main course I got a filet mignon, which was cooked decently. It came with mushrooms and potato slices along with a green puree that looked just like basil pesto but does not taste like it at all. It's a bit sweet, maybe with some kind of fruit, but it's not a bad contrast with the beef. Finally, the dessert was some kind of cake, it was soft and had ice cream on the side, but I think the cake is a bit too sweet for me.

First time here Came here for a bday dinner. It's inside the Grand Colonial Hotel and offers cozy intimate dining with elevated service! Plan to come by around sunset so you can either dine on the patio or come out before going to get seated. Drinks, exceptionally made. Enjoyed all of our items: -Sourdough bread -Pork Belly -Gnocchi -Cod -Veggie main -Cheese plate Everything was amazingly executed and now I see why this place has the Michelin Distinction.

The service was excellent. We were seated right away and our waiter greeted us within minutes. He took our wine order and our food order since we had planned ahead and knew what were going to order. The ambiance is ok, might be better if they dim the lights just a tad. Overall service and food were great. Hamachi is amazing and highly recommend. The duck was my favorite dish. It has a nice crust to it that was excellent. I would return again.

My husband and I have been to Nine-Ten a few times for date nights as well as with our baby. We've really enjoyed our experiences each time and really appreciated them accommodating our baby as well. The outdoor patio is beautiful during sunset hour. The food is delicious - their duck breast is perfectly cooked and the Jamaican jerk pork belly is one of our favorites.

Crispy muffins, smoky Canadian bacon, and silky poached eggs in lemony hollandaise. Each bite is rich, bright, and perfectly balanced.

From the moment we stepped into Nine-Ten at the Colonial Hotel, we knew we were in for a special experience. The atmosphere is relaxed, open, and inviting, making it the perfect setting for a leisurely breakfast with friends or family. Everything on the menu is farm-to-table fresh, and it truly shows in every bite. Our group of five indulged in some of the standout offerings: Eggs Benedict - Perfectly poached eggs atop prosciutto cotto and a toasted English muffin, drizzled with velvety hollandaise and accompanied by herb-roasted potatoes. A classic done to perfection. This was my breakfast. Brûléed French Toast - My daughter could not stop raving about this. Topped with macerated berries, Chantilly cream, and a luscious crème anglaise, it had a delicate, caramelized crunch that made each bite irresistible. Simply divine. Short Rib Toast - According to my wife, this was her personal favorite. Tender short rib on a toasted base, topped with onion marmalade, truffled Mornay sauce, and a perfectly fried egg, served with a petite salad. Bold flavors beautifully balanced, every element executed flawlessly. Any of these dishes alone would impress, but together they make for an unforgettable breakfast experience, thankfully everyone was willing to share. While we didn't sample the fresh breakfast pastries, made in-house daily, we can only imagine how incredible they must be. Next time! Service was attentive and seamless, making the entire meal feel effortless and enjoyable. Nine-Ten delivers excellence from start to finish, and we cannot wait to return. This is breakfast done right, one thing that annoys me is when you see this on the menu, "To help cover increasing costs & support growing minimum wage a 5% surcharge will be added to all checks." I felt like this was already priced into the cost of the items, which were worth every penny, so my comment is not about being petty, just a simple eyeroll. This cost them a star, outside this it was an enthusiastic 5-stars.

    Potato Agnolotti

Good food but because it is upscale, the portion sizes are small and for higher prices. You do have to make reservations considering how busy they are and their small size At dinner, I tried the Parker house rolls, the potato agnolotti and the half baked chocolate cake. The Parker house rolls (5 pieces) came out warm and were so soft. They're a little sweet on top and paired perfectly with the salted butter they give. They didn't come out with our food at first and when the waiter realized, he gave them to us on the house! The potato agnolotti comes with 5 small stuffed pasta pieces. The sauce is tasty, the green onion gives it a lot of flavor. The crispy mushrooms on top are meaty and add a good texture and flavor! The half baked cake is very runny so there isn't much substance to it. But the flavor is good. For breakfast the next morning, I tried the lemon blueberry pancakes, pavlova and some of the roasted potatoes. The roasted potatoes were so-so, they kind of tasted like they were seasoned with ramen packets and were still a little tough. The pavlova was good, but the meringue itself and cream were just a little too sweet. The tart strawberry compote that comes with it was good for balance! Lastly, the lemon blueberry pancakes (3) were very good! Great texture and size, lots of blueberries and the right amount of lemon to balance it. They were very good with metered butter and syrup on top!

We love a great tasting menu. Only problem is that the last one we did, our son(a football player) left hungry. Are the portions small? I always leave satisfied but it is his birthday and want to make sure he will be full

Hi! How much do you charge for corkage? Also, how is the street parking situation near the restaurant?

Hi Andrea. Yes, we do offer valet parking here at NINE-TEN. Cost is $10 per car, with validation. Hope you'll have the chance to visit soon! Chef Jason

How dressy is dressy? Do I need to wear a sport coat or blazer?

Hi David. No, you do not need to wear a sport coat or blazer to NINE-TEN. While you won't see a lot of shorts or sandals, we're a pretty casual restaurant. Nice jeans or slacks and a button down or polo shirt are absolutely appropriate. Hope…

I think it's great. But working with Carly was stiff. Communication broke down at times with her over email when collecting insurance for vendors and trying to schedule our rehearsal walk through with our coordinator. When we toured they mentioned that we could have someone play the piano with prior permission. We got said permission from Carly only to find out that said person needs to have day of insurance. The person we had in mind to play was our friend who is a musician but we didn't want to make them or us pay $120 just so he can play piano for 30 minutes. So that was annoying as we wished the insurance part was mentioned prior because it sounded like someone could casually play if we just notified her first. So we scrapped that. Given the historic status of the house I understand the rules but at times the way they were enforced or communicated felt unnecessary or cold given the event. They also don't recommend getting ready in the house because the outlets aren't reliable so FYI for your timeline there. Parking is also an issue so valet is required but that's just a La Jolla classic. In the contract it's stated that music is "monitored throughout the night" and if it exceeds certain decibels they'll shut it down... I found that interesting... and honestly stressful as a bride who spent thousands to rent this space and is happy to be respectful to rules but again the manner they're provided and enforced... If I had to do it over again would I have my wedding here? Not sure. Made for beautiful photos but I think the "fun" aspect of the day would've been easier enjoyed somewhere else because the entire time these rules are hovering over you...

Connor at the bar was fantastic and kept the energy fun while providing amazing service all night. Drinks were made quickly, guests were happy, and everything felt effortless. Fede, Sava, and Thomas on the event staff were amazing and worked tirelessly to make sure everything was perfect behind the scenes. Their attention to detail and kindness did not go unnoticed. A special thank you as well to Hanna, Jenna, Sammy, and Robert on the coordination team. Every interaction was warm, professional, and thoughtful. They made us feel supported, cared for, and genuinely celebrated throughout the entire process. Planning a wedding can feel overwhelming, but this team made it feel magical. Every detail was handled with care, every moment felt intentional, and because of them, we were able to truly enjoy one of the most important days of our lives. If you are considering having your wedding or event here, do not hesitate you will be in the best hands possible. Thank you all for making our dream wedding a reality!

The wedding and reception ran timely and smoothly. The buffet dinner offered a variety of options and everything was tasty! There were plenty of seats and tables to ensure every guest had a place to hang out before and after the formal dinner. Heat lamps and tabletop fire pits were set up throughout the venue in the evening. What I did notice was how great and attentive the staff were in every aspect - at the bar, passing hors d'oeuvres, buffet dinner, photobooth. I really appreciated a female staff member notice who wasn't drinking alcohol and provided apple cider so they can participate in toasts! A staff member was also stationed by the main entrance which I'd assume is to prevent party crashers and ensure guests aren't walking out with alcohol (they thought my water was alcohol). The only downside of this gorgeous venue is the parking situation. We parked in a paid parking garage at the Morgan Stanley building for $25. It is a 0.2 mile walk to the venue.

It was exhausting but my experience with Full Moon Bridal exceeded all the other stores. Her store was well stocked and I was on a time crunch since my wedding was just three months away since we decided to do a wedding venue after all. The dresses were well organized as I wanted something simple and elegant. When I went to Full Moon Bridal it was more of a personal experience unlike other stores. You had the whole store to yourself and friends if you chose to bring them. She was so helpful with helping me try on the dresses and I got to pick quite a few to try on versus being limited like other stores. I went to about 4 or 5 stores after hers and I knew the dress I tried on at her store was the one and went back. It was also in my price range! I had it altered with her and the dress fit perfectly and the length was spot on. I highly recommend going to Full Moon Bridal. Yanna is the best and my dress was perfect!!! I felt so beautiful and my husband and wedding guests loved it. Thank you so much Yanna. I highly recommend her bridal store to everyone!!

I originally had an ocean front room with a small Juliet balcony but got upgraded to one with a full patio. It was an amazing stay! The service by the pool was excellent and quick. When we checked in, the woman at the front desk named Raina was extremely rude, cold, and short with us. I tried to brush it off and went to take a few photos of the Christmas decorations in the restaurant. The man standing at the host stand named Richie saw me and, when I politely said "don't worry, I won't get you in the picture," with a smile on my face , he snapped back "I don't want to be in your picture." This entire exchange happened within the first 10 minutes of trying to check in. Throughout the rest of the stay I watched the bellmen greet virtually every other guest who entered or left the hotel. Not me. I was consistently treated like I was just a kid or teenage tag along with parents rather than an adult guest who was paying to stay there. Basic acknowledgment and ordinary human respect were completely absent. Nice location and cute decorations do not make up for being ignored and spoken to with open disdain by multiple staff members. One star

We were greeted by an employee who offered us water while we waited until 430 and we gladly accepted. There's a bench if you arrive early- enough for 2 to 3 people to sit there and then everyone else waited until the door is open. Upon walking in the smell in this establishment was so fresh. It's smelled like sea salt and something else that I can't recall. But that smell was wonderful throughout the entire duration of my visit. Initially, my friend and I were seated at a table that was pushed against a portion of the windows to the far right of the bar. Other people were being seated at other places, and we asked to be moved because that table was very small and the arrangement was just not what we thought it would be like. They kindly accepted and we moved towards the lounge area/dining room in which we had a table with ample space and we could see the perfect views of the ocean. Initially, I did not expect for all of the people to be down on the sand while we're in the restaurant, but if you go, you will see all walks of life in their bathing suits and putting stuff on the retaining wall. Until it gets about 6 PM and the tides are higher, and the people have since left. Then the views become absolutely amazing. Our waiter was Javier. He was super amazing, intend to, checked out often and gave great recommendations for the menu. For the appetizer, he recommended the crab and then for dinner the filet mignon and I chose the chocolate cake that had pistachios. Everything was delicious, including their house made bread and they had butter with black sea salt. I ate so much bread, but I couldn't resist while I was waiting for the rest of my meal. The mashed potatoes were excellent with the broccolini and the filet mignon was cooked to perfection. My complaints to the chefs. There is even a gentleman with his band, singing and engaging with the audience. Overall, it was a really good experience once the tides got higher and most of the gas exited the area. The three course meal is definitely the way to go instead of à la carte.

That being said, I expected much more from the food considering how the restaurant positions itself and the price point. We tried several dishes, including oysters and scallops, and unfortunately the food overall was pretty underwhelming and lacked flavor. Nothing was necessarily bad, but nothing really stood out either. Also, if you see the restaurant from the beach, the exterior itself is surprisingly understated and doesn't really give the impression of a luxury dining destination. I'm giving it 4 stars mainly because of the gorgeous oceanfront location, sunset and overall experience. For the food alone, my expectations were definitely higher.
