Great outdoor seating areas. This is the front patio.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice side patio.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Hostess was great. I appreciate that the server let me try a few wines tonight, but they all seemed "rough" -either unstructured or something else. I also wasn't wild about the parmagiana eggplant appetizer. The eggplant could have been more tender and the pesto was too strong for me. But my meal got better! He switched to a Hugo spritz and it was delicious and very strong. And my main course, the fusilloni with pesto and burrata, was delicious. The pasta was perfectly firm, and the pesto was less overpowering. There was not that much burrata, but they brought me extra Parmesan and it was delicious that way. So overall a good and pleasant meal. The vegan bruschetta was also good for sharing, though a little one for one person to have on their own.

We were trying to find somewhere special for Mother's Day and decided on Italian since our family spends quite a bit of time in Italy every year. Somehow, this ended up being one of the best Italian meals we've ever had -- including overseas. This was our first time here, and everything exceeded expectations. The restaurant is family owned by the chef, his wife, and their sons, and you can truly feel the passion and hospitality the moment you walk in. They came by to introduce themselves, which made the whole evening feel so personal and welcoming. The ricotta and spinach ravioli was unbelievable -- honestly one of the best pasta dishes any of us have had. The branzino was equally impressive, and that says a lot considering how much seafood we eat while traveling through coastal Italy each year. You can absolutely taste the quality of the ingredients. The owner mentioned they import their flour directly from Italy, and it definitely shows in the food. I only wish this restaurant was closer to home because I'd be here constantly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Such an incredible little spot in La Jolla.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

If a restaurant has one stellar quality such as ambience, but the food is "meh" or vice versa, that could compel me to leave 4 stars. But Piazza 1909? It has ALL of the factors you want in your dining experience! I was at a work conference in La Jolla and picked out this place for my colleagues and I for dinner...of course due to Yelp reviews. Wow. Service: A+ Menu: made me anxious as there were so many things u wanted to try but couldn't reasonably put away, actual food we got: A+ (and everyone at the table for something different, but all had that savoring-eyes-closed-moment with the first bite, finally [[HIGHLIGHT]]AMBIENCE: A+ seriously so charming![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I have nothing but good things to say and look forward to the next time we are in the neighborhood!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Super cute place in LaJolla away from the beach (so no views with this restaurant).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server was pleasant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance was great.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat outside on their patio towards the bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Ordered a few drinks, a pizza, and chicken Milanese. We loved the chicken. The pizza was ok. Would totally recommend for a family visit or date night while in LaJolla.

Absolutely beautiful! Food aesthetic and everything was spot on. Husband found this place through some ad on Instagram and wanted to go here because they had the squid ink pasta. He really wanted a pastor and the rest of the menu seemed really nice as well so we came here for our anniversary dinner. Definitely had a very hard time picking something on the menu because everything looks so good but I was also trying to eat healthy so got the Fall Salad (along with the pasta). It was an arugula base with roasted butternut squash, dried cranberries, apple, caramelized pecans and goat cheese. Added some chicken on top and overall this salad was phenomenal! Chicken was cooked perfectly and everything else on the salad was also beautiful together. The goat cheese was fresh. Pecans were yummy and the butternut squash was also delicious. And so so so well together. We did not even need one drop of that salad dressing. The squid ink pasta itself was absolutely lovely. Pasta was so fresh and cooked perfectly al dente. The sauce was yummy and there was so much of seafood on there. It was actually a very good meal for the price point. No regrets here at all. All the seafood was also cooked perfectly well and I was very skeptical about a seafood pasta but this was delicious. Got the Tiramisu for dessert and it was yummy! I was a little hesitant about this because I've had experiences with tiramisu not being as nice, but this was perfectly spot on. The mascarpone was soft and creamy and yummy and This was just another dessert overall. Aesthetic was very beautiful and they had heaters everywhere so the experience was very comfortable.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Beautiful Italian restaurant set in La Jolla shopping area, this is our second time eating here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]First time was for a party, and they had a nice private area in the back set up.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]This visit was for dinner and love how the restaurant is lighted.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We tried the bruschetta appetizer with different bites, which by far is a must order. We devoured every bite of the crispy flavorful bread topped each with different toppings. The bolognese pasta with slowly simmered tomatoes and meat was the right consistency and thickness for the parpadelle pasta. The pizza had a thin light crust which is the way I love my pizza. We made a reservation which is recommended since they can get quite busy. The staff greeted us upon entering and were so friendly explaining all the dishes. Yum

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Place is super cute and overall enjoyed the food![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was friendly and nice. Heads up, they're not a full bar. Beer and wine only, but decent selection considering it not being a full bar. Pasta nicely cooked al dente and the sauces on the dishes were not that heavy. Their focaccia bread was beautifully done as well!

We came here for the first time today. Tuesdays are 50% off select bottles night. We started with the focaccia and the squash blossoms which i forgot to take a photo of. Both were delicious. Mains included cioppino pizza lasagna. The service was fantastic. Attentive but not annoying and the space is very pretty with great ambiance. My only small complaint was that the pizza was a bit soggy in the middle, but next time we will just order it well done:

I have to give this a 3 star bc the service was subpar. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The food and ambiance is fabulous[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] but the service was not great. Server took a long time taking the order and bringing food. I might try it again when it's not as busy. Great food though.

It was a cute and cozy atmosphere, perfect for a group dinner in the evening. There were 9 in our party and they were more than able to accommodate us. The service was a little slow and inattentive throughout the night. For example, we had three pitchers of water on the table that ran out and we were unable to get more for a considerable amount of time as no one came to check up on our table until the food was ready to be served. Then, we had long since finished our meal but waited a considerable amount of time for the check to be brought out. Fortunately, we were in no rush and so it didn't become a huge issue. It was just weird because the restaurant was not extremely busy and hectic on this particular Sunday night. I've worked in fast paced restaurants as a waitress and so maybe the importance of checking on your tables throughout their dining experience has just been drilled into my subconscious too much! The food was very delicious though and worth the visit. You can tell how fresh the pasta is and the serving sizes were very generous! We were all shocked at how many ravioli our friend got on her plate. Sometimes you go to an Italian restaurant and get maybe four ravioli and that's it! Our whole party was satisfied with the food and I didn't feel disgustingly full afterwards either. It's very much an enjoyable and lowkey spot for good Italian food in the area. Happy eating:) Side note: I want to also mention that they have a little menu for your furry friends and I think that is absolutely adorable!!

Cute restaurant with a dog-friendly patio, which was the main reason we came. We didn't have reservations and were seated at the bar, even though several outdoor tables sat empty the entire time we were there - a bit disappointing since we had our dog with us. Service was friendly but slow, and the food was decent, just not super memorable. Overall, it's a nice spot to check out if you're in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. insalate di cesare (small) 4/5 pizza margherita burrata 3/5

The spaghetti allo scoglio was definitely the standout for me. The seafood was super fresh and cooked perfectly, and I loved how the marinara sauce complemented the natural flavors of the seafood without overpowering them. The pasta was also cooked al dente. The calamari fritti was a great appetizer as well. The calamari had the perfect balance of crispy on the outside and tender and chewy on the inside. The fried pickled jalapeños were a really nice touch, although I wasn't a huge fan of the tomato dipping sauce. The calamari was still delicious without it though. The restaurant has rustic-chic decor and a really nice atmosphere, making it a great option for a date night or a nicer dinner. Service was friendly as well! It was a Friday evening and every restaurant on the street was full and vibrant. You could Yelp these places all day long and it would be hard to choose. There were pretty white tablecloths, the hostess was smiling ready to answer any questions and of course, the menu looked wonderful. Voilà! We'd found our spot. Our waiter was so personable and had all the answers to our inquiries. He suggested items and even answered honestly when needed. I got a Le Pécora Nera Sangria (fizzy blackberry with lemon). Tasty, but too many blackberry seeds coming up the straw. I'd get another one next time. For the appetizers: RISOTTO ARANCINI (a MUST get) - these were absolutely delicious. Four good size bread crumbed fried balls of risotto sitting in the restaurant's own tomato gravy. HOMEMADE FOCACCIA WITH DIPPING OIL (yes, that's the official name) - this is a basket of super soft, warm focaccia bread for a great price. I would get it no matter what main course you're getting! It soaks up every sauce and it's just delicious. MAIN: BAKED LASAGNA (meat) - with the two appetizers this is the perfect size for both of us. No need to get one per person! It was absolutely wonderful. I would get it again. All in all, I'd definitely go back. The food was absolutely delicious and flavorful and the employees we came in contact with were great as well. We didn't want to sit at a table right next to the hundreds of people walking by, I don't like that, but there are plenty other options one row in or inside the restaurant. Our food was out within about 10 to 15 minutes and everything was prepared perfectly. I have to say that we really enjoyed dining in this location and we may need to come back here more instead of traveling to the Del Mar location sometimes.
