Great outdoor seating areas. This is the front patio.

Nice side patio. Hostess was great. I appreciate that the server let me try a few wines tonight, but they all seemed "rough" -either unstructured or something else. I also wasn't wild about the parmagiana eggplant appetizer. The eggplant could have been more tender and the pesto was too strong for me. But my meal got better! He switched to a Hugo spritz and it was delicious and very strong. And my main course, the fusilloni with pesto and burrata, was delicious. The pasta was perfectly firm, and the pesto was less overpowering. There was not that much burrata, but they brought me extra Parmesan and it was delicious that way. So overall a good and pleasant meal. The vegan bruschetta was also good for sharing, though a little one for one person to have on their own.

Super cute place in LaJolla away from the beach (so no views with this restaurant). Our server was pleasant. Ambiance was great. We sat outside on their patio towards the bar. Ordered a few drinks, a pizza, and chicken Milanese. We loved the chicken. The pizza was ok. Would totally recommend for a family visit or date night while in LaJolla.

If a restaurant has one stellar quality such as ambience, but the food is "meh" or vice versa, that could compel me to leave 4 stars. But Piazza 1909? It has ALL of the factors you want in your dining experience! I was at a work conference in La Jolla and picked out this place for my colleagues and I for dinner...of course due to Yelp reviews. Wow. Service: A+ Menu: made me anxious as there were so many things u wanted to try but couldn't reasonably put away, actual food we got: A+ (and everyone at the table for something different, but all had that savoring-eyes-closed-moment with the first bite, finally AMBIENCE: A+ seriously so charming! I have nothing but good things to say and look forward to the next time we are in the neighborhood!

Place is super cute and overall enjoyed the food! Service was friendly and nice. Heads up, they're not a full bar. Beer and wine only, but decent selection considering it not being a full bar. Pasta nicely cooked al dente and the sauces on the dishes were not that heavy. Their focaccia bread was beautifully done as well!

Absolutely beautiful! Food aesthetic and everything was spot on. Husband found this place through some ad on Instagram and wanted to go here because they had the squid ink pasta. He really wanted a pastor and the rest of the menu seemed really nice as well so we came here for our anniversary dinner. Definitely had a very hard time picking something on the menu because everything looks so good but I was also trying to eat healthy so got the Fall Salad (along with the pasta). It was an arugula base with roasted butternut squash, dried cranberries, apple, caramelized pecans and goat cheese. Added some chicken on top and overall this salad was phenomenal! Chicken was cooked perfectly and everything else on the salad was also beautiful together. The goat cheese was fresh. Pecans were yummy and the butternut squash was also delicious. And so so so well together. We did not even need one drop of that salad dressing. The squid ink pasta itself was absolutely lovely. Pasta was so fresh and cooked perfectly al dente. The sauce was yummy and there was so much of seafood on there. It was actually a very good meal for the price point. No regrets here at all. All the seafood was also cooked perfectly well and I was very skeptical about a seafood pasta but this was delicious. Got the Tiramisu for dessert and it was yummy! I was a little hesitant about this because I've had experiences with tiramisu not being as nice, but this was perfectly spot on. The mascarpone was soft and creamy and yummy and This was just another dessert overall. Aesthetic was very beautiful and they had heaters everywhere so the experience was very comfortable.

We were in town for a wedding and they decided to have their celebration dinner here, we were all pleasantly surprised by this place. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous fitted with outdoor seating surrounding a repurposed home. The service was great, they were quick and attentive. To our surprise, my partners mom and the chef of the restaurant are from the same region in Italy. Everything was fantastic, the portions are smaller and lack an abundance of flavor from what we are used to (my partners father is a chef), but overall still a solid place.

Beautiful Italian restaurant set in La Jolla shopping area, this is our second time eating here. First time was for a party, and they had a nice private area in the back set up. This visit was for dinner and love how the restaurant is lighted. We tried the bruschetta appetizer with different bites, which by far is a must order. We devoured every bite of the crispy flavorful bread topped each with different toppings. The bolognese pasta with slowly simmered tomatoes and meat was the right consistency and thickness for the parpadelle pasta. The pizza had a thin light crust which is the way I love my pizza. We made a reservation which is recommended since they can get quite busy. The staff greeted us upon entering and were so friendly explaining all the dishes. Yum

I have to give this a 3 star bc the service was subpar. The food and ambiance is fabulous but the service was not great. Server took a long time taking the order and bringing food. I might try it again when it's not as busy. Great food though.

We came here for the first time today. Tuesdays are 50% off select bottles night. We started with the focaccia and the squash blossoms which i forgot to take a photo of. Both were delicious. Mains included cioppino pizza lasagna. The service was fantastic. Attentive but not annoying and the space is very pretty with great ambiance. My only small complaint was that the pizza was a bit soggy in the middle, but next time we will just order it well done:

Great outdoor seating. If you want home made but don't want to cook at home this is the place to be. It's absolutely delicious.

It was a cute and cozy atmosphere, perfect for a group dinner in the evening. There were 9 in our party and they were more than able to accommodate us. The service was a little slow and inattentive throughout the night. For example, we had three pitchers of water on the table that ran out and we were unable to get more for a considerable amount of time as no one came to check up on our table until the food was ready to be served. Then, we had long since finished our meal but waited a considerable amount of time for the check to be brought out. Fortunately, we were in no rush and so it didn't become a huge issue. It was just weird because the restaurant was not extremely busy and hectic on this particular Sunday night. I've worked in fast paced restaurants as a waitress and so maybe the importance of checking on your tables throughout their dining experience has just been drilled into my subconscious too much! The food was very delicious though and worth the visit. You can tell how fresh the pasta is and the serving sizes were very generous! We were all shocked at how many ravioli our friend got on her plate. Sometimes you go to an Italian restaurant and get maybe four ravioli and that's it! Our whole party was satisfied with the food and I didn't feel disgustingly full afterwards either. It's very much an enjoyable and lowkey spot for good Italian food in the area. Happy eating:) Side note: I want to also mention that they have a little menu for your furry friends and I think that is absolutely adorable!!

Cute restaurant with a dog-friendly patio, which was the main reason we came. We didn't have reservations and were seated at the bar, even though several outdoor tables sat empty the entire time we were there - a bit disappointing since we had our dog with us. Service was friendly but slow, and the food was decent, just not super memorable. Overall, it's a nice spot to check out if you're in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. insalate di cesare (small) 4/5 pizza margherita burrata 3/5

Mangiare!! First time at Piazza 1909 and will definitely be back. Had reservations for 10 at 5:30pm on a Saturday night and were promptly seated as we arrived. The hostess was a friendly and polite young lady. Our waiter was equally friendly with an accent that let you know this was going to be authentic Italian food. Apparently many ingredients are imported from Italy, making their dishes incredibly tasty. Started off with baskets of fresh focaccia bread and sauce, both were amazing. The pasta was very light not leaving overly fool. And the ragout, forgeta bout' it!! Delicious! Pizzas were substantial enough for two to share. The dining areas were clean with ample seating at tables for 2,4 or big parties. I can't say enough about "Piazza 1909" so give it a try. I'm sure you will be equally impressed as I was.

The tomato aioli was my favorite part and I could honestly dip bread in it all the time. I would come back here just for these. 2. INSALATA CESARE - This caesar salad was pretty good and had a huge parmesan crisp. The salad was fresh and paired well with our pastas. 3. We asked if there were any tables available inside and were told no because they were being saved for other guests, even though there were empty tables for two. It was a bit chilly and windy outside, and we weren't the only ones asking to sit inside. I even watched one of the indoor tables get up and leave shortly after, which made the whole situation even more frustrating. That already left a bad impression, but we decided to stay and give the food a chance. Stinco Di Agnello: 4.5/10 The portion size was great and the dish looked delicious when it came out, but that was about the only positive. The lamb shank was overcooked, a little dry, and lacked the rich flavor you'd expect. Even the sauce couldn't save it. The pasta had a grainy texture, and the mushroom sauce was so weak that you could barely taste it. On top of that, the plate was too small, so the lamb sauce kept mixing into the mushroom sauce and completely threw off the dish. Saltimbocca Alla Romana: 3/10 This was honestly unacceptable. We specifically ordered the steak medium rare, and it came out well done. That's not a small mistake. It's one of the most basic things to get right. We didn't send it back because we didn't want to sit there waiting for another entree or waste the food, but it was tough, dry, and not enjoyable to eat at all. The sauce was bland and added nothing to the dish. The potatoes were the only thing worth eating. They also only serve wine and beer, so don't expect cocktails. The only reason this review isn't even lower is because our server was kind, attentive, and did a great job. I've given this restaurant multiple chances over the years, and every visit has been disappointing in one way or another. The ambiance wasn't great either. Between being seated outside in the cold, the noise, and the overall atmosphere, it definitely didn't feel like a place I'd choose for a date night. At this point, I can't justify coming back. There are far too many great Italian restaurants around to spend your money on food that is consistently underwhelming and poorly executed. Food: 3/10 Service: 8.5/10

So nice views into the park too. Josh was our server and he was super nice! I started with the pope's delight cocktail. It's listed online as "aged rum + amaro romana + salted cantaloupe olio + lime, $17." But they had decided to add a proscuitto crisp and make it $21. I didn't want the proscuitto so that was a little annoying. But it was a tasty little cocktail. Bread: it's amazing here. They change exactly how they do it from time to time - this version was so yummy and with great butter. App: I got the burrata + pluot | cherry tomato + arugula + almond + coriander + mint + toast appetizer. Very yummy! Huge also. I took half of it home. Definitely recommend. Entree: I always like when the corn agnolotti comes on the menu, but it changes each year. This version was pretty good - I think my pasta was just a tad undercooked, not quite al dente on the parts of the agnolotti on the edges (not the pillows holding the filling). Still good though. Also, if you're going to the theater, do you know they have a FREE shuttle that takes you to the Old Globe and back? We decided to walk there after dinner (easy, pretty) but take the shuttle back after the show. So easy! And then I ordered takeout dessert from Josh. Overall, a super meal and great vibes. Without hesitation, he poured me a glass of Prosecco, invited me to wait outside, and assured me he'd have a seat for me in just a few minutes. Sure enough, about two minutes later, he came out and seated me. This restaurant made you feel like you were in Italy with the ambiance and vibe. I had done my research beforehand, so I already knew what I wanted. I ordered the lasagna, and it was absolutely incredible. The portion was generous, and my server let me know it would take a little extra time to prepare, which was perfectly fine. It didn't take long for me to realize that the man who seated me was also the owner. As I watched him greet guests throughout the evening, it was obvious that he genuinely loves what he does. We had a great conversation, and he was warm, welcoming, and personable. After finishing my meal, I ordered a double espresso and tiramisu for dessert. The tiramisu was easily one of the best I've ever had. Exceptional food, outstanding hospitality, and a memorable experience from start to finish. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in town.
