one of my really good girlfriend and i needed a quick brunch spot. bistro bar didnt have a wait and had an open patio so check and check it was a nice saturday morning in beautiful lb which is why we opted for the patio it was just us on the patio, which was great bc we had so much to catch up on! small but very delectable options i was btw the breakfast quesadilla and the french toast with strawberries i went with the breakfast quesadilla i wish it had some sort of protein, but now that im looking at the menu (as im writing my review, post 2days) my quesadilla def did not have any bacon or garlic aioli, well that sucks!! my friend ordered the lemon blueberry ricotta pancakes service was great. our waitress was super sweet she was attentive, she came around multiple times to make sure we were still good we were there after closing, which was noon.. we wrapped up our food in to go containers and walked to the hallway to continue our convo bistro bar is connected to the courtyard by marriott so if you need to use the restrooms, you'll have to walk through the hotel parking: metered street parking, parking garage

Stopped off here for a night cap and some dessert. Sunday evening which didn't seemed as crowded as I thought it would be. But people didn't trickle in throughout our visit. First off, service was slow. Short staff or just slow. There was one person at the bar and another that seemed to be working the floor. He seemed like the only one taking everyone's order. We didn't wanted to make things to complicated as there was few of us. Everything on one bill. Ordered a couple of drinks and a few of the dessert as well as a side of fries. Drinks did take a little while as it was only one person working the bar area. The sweets come out shortly afterwards. Service was nice from the waiter but it was slow. Side of fries was never brought out but did check to see if it was added to bill which wasn't. The place is quite nice, great vibe and part of the Marriott hotel I believe. Location, right in the heart of downtown Long Beach. A big ground is arrive after us but with the lack of staff, they were debating on wither of staying or leaving. As no one seemed to acknowledge their party. Took a while. Coming back, maybe for drinks.

Bagel Platter and Oatmilk Cappuccino

I thought this place was wonderful. It is attached to the Courtyard Marriot, where I was staying for a conference. The first morning, I only got take out but it was impressive. Yogurt bowl with yummy granola, honey, and very fresh berries was utterly delicious. Oat milk cappuccino to go was basic but big enough to get me through morning conference sessions. My final morning, I ate in and ordered the bagel platter. Super yummy with a fresh bagel, an abundance of lox, capers, and fresh red onion, cucumber, and arugula. It certainly satisfied. Servers were very attentive and kind. I would highly recommend this lovely, clean little bistro. Everything was delicious and prepared well.

Food: I got the bistro burger (medium rare) with fries. The burger was very tasty and cooked right. Asked for some ranch to match the fries. Fries were a little bland, needs more salt or some kind of seasoning. I ordered an old fashioned and it was done right (on a single cube) with an orange peel and black cherry. The blonde beer was decent. Service: The service was good. Bartender / waitress very attentive since I was sitting at the bar on a Tuesday night which was not slow but not full. They provided me with everything I needed. Ambiance: It's nice in there, easy entrance to find if you're staying the Marriott hotel. There was enough seating at the bar to watch the TV's and plenty of booth/ table seating all around. Overall, I would recommend checking this place out if you're staying at the hotel or looking for a bite to eat in the area.

Ambience: 10/10 Spacious, lots of seating, clean and very beautiful inside and out. Service: 9/10 It works very differently here and I'm not the hugest fan. You order from the bar and then sit down wherever you can find. Luckily for me it wasn't busy at all on a Saturday and I found seating right away. The girl who helped me was very nice and recommended a few popular items. She also delivered my food very promptly (I was surprised how fast it came out). No one stops to check on you, it's self serve with coffee and water. You have to keep reordering drinks if you want anything from the bar. So it's not your sit down and enjoy your meal kind of restaurant. You order and then are left to fend for yourself kind of thing. It's not awful, but not what I was expecting either. Food: 4/10 No flavor, none whatsoever. I had the breakfast sandwich which came with cubed potatoes. Salt and pepper added to the sandwhich didn't help, the ketchup couldn't save the stale/stiff fried potato cubes.. I would hate to rate this place based off one meal, but it was so bland. I ate the sandwich due to hunger but left the potatoes alone. Dennys has better food to be honest. Ambience and service were perfect, but the food was a huge miss. May try again in the far future. Also kind of crazy that they close at noon, most brunch locations are open until 2pm.

The bistro (was james republic before the name change)! I was staying at the courtyard by marriott long beach downtown and found this place walking through the hotel. I decided on the short rib beef patty bistro burger and buffalo wings. For hotel food this is not bad! The median rare burger was cooked just right but not to much flavor but ok! You get skinny fries which were ok. The franks hot buffalo wings $14.00 were good with a nice kick of spicy with veggie sticks but these wings i could of made at home. The place is beautiful with nice prime outside/inside seating. You could grab a beer and just sit outside and people watch the whole day. The place is clean and the bartenders were very cool talking to them while i waited for my order. The bistro has plenty of TV's to watch sporting events and big enough tables to host a party of 20 or more guest. Most of the people go here for the bar drinks which is the busiest part of the restaurant.

Always great service. I had the Caesar salad worth chicken and it was just perfect. My daughter had the burger and fries.

$15 for 5 tiny premade frozen meatballs?
Tim S.

The seating and view is great. The server spoke about the "chef" and the kitchen can accomodate if you dont want cheese on your order... The "chef" is a microwave. The food is basically costco frozen meals and warmed and served. The $15 meatballs with arugula is 5 tiny pre-made frozen meatballs that are the size of a quarter. The salad is also just tossed and thrown in a bowl. No lemon or any additions. Just another hotel trying to be a restaurant and failing... but the beer is cold...

Boomer on the outdoor wrap around the corner patio. They have heat lamps too!

It is an outdoor rooftop style restaurant. It offers great laid-back atmosphere. perfect for catch up, date night dinner or company relaxing dinners. I ordered steak and a cheesecake. Tell me to meet you somewhere and I'll be there. Simple as that and less stress for me. Anyways, that's how we ended up at this place. Trying to find happy hour with food in the area was somewhat a challenge. Either they were finishing up or it wasn't that interesting on the menu. Of course some places offered amazing drink deals but no food. We ended up here actually across the street still looking up for places but the rooftop patio was what caught our attention. The restaurant itself looked bare as there was no one inside. Still on the early side but noticing people going in and then heading up stairs. After a few debates on here and there, we gave up and found our way here. Checked in with the host, letting him know that we just wanted happy hour upstairs. It was about two flights of stairs which the place looked quite industrial with all the metal beams and stairs. Downstairs was beautiful but completely emptied. Everyone wanted to utilize the rooftop patio as it was beautiful out. We were greeted by someone which mentioned to us that any bar seating was available. There was a section towards the back that was pretty lively. I think it was booked for a group. Instead of the bar area, we asked to sit along the rooftop counter that looks out to the street and building across the street. Way better view and perfect way to spend the afternoon hours. Staff were all pretty sweet and very friendly. Whatever we needed they were they to help. Both the regular menu and happy hour menu were quite impressive. As we just wanted HH, it was given. They had drink special for 10.00 and small bites for 10.00 as well. Didn't hesitate and started off with some drinks. The red sangria with mixed fruits was a nice clean and refreshing treat. Tasteful without that aftertaste. And the Le Pistolet Fumant, a delectable tasty drink with mezcal with a hint of pineapple. And other well drink that was perfect for a nice afternoon. HH drink special was quite tasty to start off. Food wise, started off with an order of the Caesar salad, simple but delicious. Fresh crisp Romaine lettuce and slices of Parmesan and crouton bits. Nice crunch with each bite. The dressing, wow pretty tasty. And an order of the Mac and Cheese . Most places it's either a hit or a miss and let me say it was a HIT. Quite cheesy and full of flavors that a second order was had. A dish I do recommend for HH. We also had an order of the Brussels sprouts which was excellent. A nice glaze and crunchy with chunks of house cured pancetta. Nice big chunks I must say. Lastly the beef sliders with Wagyu beef patties. Honestly, this was the least favorite of the dishes we got. You would think it sounded great but it was quite tasteless and nothing major to report on. Served with brioche bun and shredded lettuce and tomatoes and a lemon aioli. I had high hope for it when I saw the group next to us order it but it was a little disappointing. Overall, the Mac and cheese, Caesar salad and Brussels sprouts were all hits. The sliders, disappointing. Other items on HH didn't look too ingesting for us but it was for other people. The rooftop lounge and bar area was the place to be when we were there. It picked up real fast after we got seated. Picnic style tables being occupied by large groups before HH ended. Just the rooftop alone was great and beautiful. It a place that's good for a drink and meal with friends. Downstairs was beautiful but seemed more of an intimate experience. Overall, it was a great choice for a meal during HH.

One visit we waited over 40 minutes without being acknowledged, another time our order came out wrong, and another time the food arrived cold like it had been sitting for quite a while. Because of that, I honestly did not want to come back tonight. But I was craving a good steak, and after my husband suggested giving 908 another try, I reluctantly agreed. I noticed the filet mignon on the menu paired with broccolini and decided to go for it. From the moment we walked in, the experience felt completely different. The hostess was warm and welcoming and seated us immediately. A young man came over right away with waters and took our drink order, which already surprised us in the best way. Then Alex S came to our table, and he truly made the night exceptional. He was friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful in making sure my order was exactly how I wanted it. I mentioned that I didn't want a large piece of butter melting over the steak, and he happily accommodated that request. He even checked on the exact ounce size of the filet for me, which I appreciated. We ordered the Brussels sprouts appetizer, and honestly, they were the best Brussels sprouts we've ever had. Perfectly cooked, not drowning in sauce, and absolutely packed with flavor. My 8 oz filet mignon was cooked perfectly medium rare, exactly as ordered. The broccolini was crisp, fresh, and not overly oily. Everything tasted thoughtful, balanced, and worth every dollar. Most importantly, Alex S delivered spectacular service from start to finish. We were genuinely shocked to learn this was his first night shift because he handled the dining room with professionalism, warmth, and confidence far beyond what we expected. Thank you, Alex S, for completely changing our impression of 908. Tonight's experience was excellent, and for the first time, we are actually excited to come back. Thanks again, Jed Dornoff

I started with a cup of their beef and barley soup. My wife and I both make this at home from scratch and we're both impressed by theirs. My wife took a taste of mine and instantly ordered her own. Very rich and flavorful. I kept looking at photos of their take on chicken and waffles and knew I had to try it. Seriously epic and was good as it looked. They coated the chicken in a chili rub that gave it a sweet and spicy flavor when paired with their maple syrup. Served on top of a waffle and topped with an egg. I loved it and would probably order again on my next visit. My wife had the American plate which was your classic eggs, bacon, potatoes, and sourdough toast combo. High quality ingredients elevated it beyond your typical diner food. Drinks were great too. I had their house made bloody mary which had a nice kick to it. My wife had their brunch version of a Corpse Reviver cocktail. After our meals were done we finished with an Irish coffee since everyone was ordering them. Perfect service, relaxing atmosphere, and delicious food will definitely have me returning very soon! Parking is free for 2 hours at the nearby garage on 3rd and is a very short walk. The closer garage on Broadway is not free. You can make restaurant reservations on their website but it wasn't needed when we went.

TLDR; It's expensive, and not worth the routine visit, but worth the one-time stop in to experience the festivities. The Miracle pop-up at The Ordinarie is somehow even more decorated and extravagant than you'd expect from a seasonal pop-up. The line looks long outside, as there are no reservations, but it moves quickly since they hold everybody to a pretty strict 2-hour time limit. The drinks are good, the cups are cute, and everyone is festive. It's an all-around fun experience.  I think because of this, you do pay a premium price tag for food and drinks that are just good or okay. I think it's something that is worth the visit if you've never been and you enjoy getting into the Christmas spirit. I think that outside of the pop-up, The Ordinarie is a fun spot to check out in Long Beach. It't not a pillar of the food scene if you're a tourist, but it is a good, late night spot if you work in the industry nearby. They have a great late-night menu with a killer smash burger.
