I can't say enough nice things about this restaurant. After the Bistango on 29th/3rd closed down due to COVID, we decided to try out this other location and WOW it did not disappoint. The hostess and servers were above and beyond friendly and hospitable, the food was wonderful (burrata was a must have!), the drinks were delicious (loved the strawberry marg), and they were extremely cautious for my bf who has celiac disease. On our way out we noticed they have great happy hour deals so we will be back for those! As a side note, this was the warmest I've been while eating outside. It was happy hour, but I wasn't able to take advantage of the happy hour price because they required food and I wasn't planning on having a meal here. I got a pear mule moment which was pretty good. On a Friday, I would have wanted it to be stronger, but it was fine for a Monday. I don't think this will be a must go or go to place when I am out and about, but it will be a place I park when waiting for things nearby. The staff is super nice and attentive and the place has a vintage, romantic vibe. For someone that often goes out for a nightcap alone, it is crucial for me to find a place where I am comfortable having a solo moment. This place is one of those places! No one will make you feel uncomfortable! The bar area is not a bar area you would expect. When I went, the bar area seemed to be a place for the kitchen staff to prep the meals and there was no bartender. Came here last night with two friends for dinner. I think I ordered the wrong things since both friends loved their meals so I would be open to coming back and trying something else. The bread comes with this lemon oil hummus which is really interesting and different. I don't love hummus usually but it wasn't bad. For an app we split the meatballs and I got the tuscan kale caesar salad. The meatballs were cooked well (still moist) and the sauce was good as well. The caesar on the other hand did not taste like caesar at all. I'm not sure what they used to dress it but it tasted like nothing I've had before. As an entree I got the veal milanese. I was impressed at the size of the cut, however the salad on top was underdressed and underseasoned and there wasn't enough for the full piece itself (which is the main part of the dish). The veal breading was also reminiscent of pancakes which threw me off a bit. The charred tomato also needed salt or pepper to balance the flavor and it was just lacking. We chose this place for a work dinner as it was not very far from the office. The reviews for the most part were pretty good especially in regards to the service and this proved accurate. The restaurant is inside the hotel, when you walk in there is a huge fish tank, the overall theme of the place was very Christmas appropriate with burgundy walls and holiday decorations. I'm not sure if this was just a seasonal thing or like this all year round. Once we were seated our friendly server came by to greet us and asked if anyone had any food allergies. This place is gluten free and seems to cater to food issues, if you have an allergy this would be a good option. We ordered some apps to share, the meatballs, grilled octopus and mushroom Flatbread. I ordered the butternut squash ravioli and tried the eggplant parm. Here's a breakdown of the food. Grilled octopus: flavor was lacking and it was very chewy. There was a bad charred aftertaste. Mushroom flatbread: the mushrooms and truffle oil were good but the bread part seemed undercooked. They should have left in the oven longer. Meatballs: best app of the night, the meat was tender, sauce had good flavor. Butternut squash ravioli: Very good flavor! The sauce had nuts and buttery and sage sauce was great. My only critique is that the portions are a somewhat small even for lunch and the server forgot to add chicken to our order as requested. It's been a while since I've been to Bistango, and given the location (I'm looking at you Murray Hill) I wasn't necessarily in a hurry to go back. BUT, I have to say, my dinner last week at Bistango was fantastic. At our table we had the grill calamari, short rib rigatoni, and the cavatelli. The calamari was hot and fresh tasting, and the sauce had great flavors. The rigatoni was delicious, and was a generous portion. The cavatelli was also nice, but the calamari & rigatoni were my favorites (And something I will definitely order it again). The service at Bistango was great also. And finally, the prices were super reasonable in my opinion, and definitely great value. I'll definitely be back to Bistango sometime soon, and highly recommend. read more

Sometimes you come across a small hidden gem in Manhattan. Bistsngo on 50th and Lexington is just that a hidden gem. I love to Yelp. But I was debating on giving up a great spot. The food is simple and fresh. Bistango is located in the Kimberly hotel. The restaurant serves Italian style food. The key to bistangos success is there food is simple and there ingredients are fresh! I have eaten in here about 6 times. The inside has about 8-10 tables. It's small. There is a candle lit on every table. You can take a date here and be able to have a intimate conversation. The food is always good and consistent. Normally I order the flatbreads. There $14 a flatbread. Normally I wouldn't pay $14 for a flatbread. But the ingredients are so fresh. It makes the flatbreads taste amazing. They make them in a fire oven. I also have had the grilled octopus. Not calimari. This is the whole octopus with tentacles and all. One day I was sitting at the table. One of the chefs brought out a log of cheese in a cloth and started unwrapping the cloth. I was impressed. For drinks they offer pretty much anything. They have beer options and they have liquor. I have ordered a bottle of 16 yr old single malt here. I found out about bistango. Through my old door man got a side job working at the hotel. I would come to the rooftop bar once a week. One day I was talking to him outside. He was asking me where I was heading after I left the hotel. I told him somewhere to eat but I don't know where I want to go. He told me about bistango. Basically the rest is history. The staff is very nice. I have had hit or miss service here. I don't understand why because inside there is literally only 8-10 tables. But it has been hit or miss. Overall. Bistango is truly a hidden gem. If you want to try some great flatbreads or just take a date here and have a quiet evening. I really do recommend coming to bistango! I will be back here. We had brunch at this place. It's attached to a hotel and so by default I didn't have a high expectation. This has everything to do with my experience with hotel restaurant. I completely changed my view after dining at 3 hotel restaurants in NYC. Just remember that this is anything can be good Manhattan. On the food: Brunch risotto: this is brilliantly done, with a huge portion of seafood compared to the risotto. Plus, there are two sunny side ups on top which makes it even more beautiful. My friends ordered blackink squid and linguine and steak and egg. I think everything came out beautiful, and of course mine is the most delicious, as always, being the only correct and yet somewhat pathetic answer. Service is great. We had a great meal! Our server, Milan, was great. The server greeted us and asked if we had any allergies or dietary restrictions which was great because my fiancée has celiac disease. First, the whole dish was a bit watery which is odd for a pasta dish unless they thought it would serve as the sauce. Second, there was zero flavoring, as in no salt, nothing. This place probably only runs on the fact that it's associated with the Kimberly hotel. My friend has been here a couple of years ago but the current chefs probably aren't the best. We got the margarita flat bread which was the ONLY dish that was good. The grilled baby octopus was overcooked and chewy that it would bounce off the wall. The mains were the saffron pasta, the veal and eggplant parmesan. All of the main dishes were extremely under seasoned and my friends and I were fighting for the salt shaker throughout dinner. After a disappointing dinner we didn't get dessert as our expectations were really low. Time for me to celebrate, I got lucky again after playing the office politics game and out smarted the competition and got my company to assign a new Intern to work with me on my next major project. And as always I treat them to fab lunch on their first day on the job so that they will remember even more the cool guy they work for. :-) So I decided on Bistanqo, I have been wanting to do this place ever since My Yelp friend Shonnie H. took a photo of the gorgeous tropical fish tank that is located in the lobby of the hotel that the restaurant is located in. Yes, that's right I went here for the fish and not the food, but Shonnie gave them five stars, So it's a win, win for me and my Intern, we can't lose going to Bistanqo, plus their entire menu may be prepared gluten-free. The cylindrical salt water marine fish tank is about 6 feet in diameter and about 5 feet in hight and when you add in the top and bottom case section it stands over 9 feet and is very impressive with not just tropical fish like Clown fish, Angels, Butterfly fish and Yellow Tangs but multi-colored Corals and live Anemones. I spent so much time looking at the fishes that the restaurant's receptionist went out for a break and my Intern started have the look of of a cat ready to pounce on the little fishes so we went into the restaurant were promptly seated by our waiter. The restaurant entrance is a hallway that is lined with with a glass walls displaying all the bottle wines on both sides. the main restaurant has a clean style of red walls on white wood trim and white moldings and makes you feel you in a upscale special place, I was here for lunch and don't know if they dim the lights for dinner but if they do it would be great for a romantic place for a get together. We didn't get the '$22.99 Lunch Prix Fixe' special and instead I ordered Meatballs al Forno, Shrimp Arrabiatta, and Grilled Zucchini Flatbread. I train my Interns well, and of course she not only joined Yelp on the spot but posted her review before I finished my cappuccino and insisted that it would not be fair for me to do what she ate on my review. ;-O The meatballs are a mix of veal, pork mixed with bread crumbs that are good for lunch because they are light, meaning not a high meat to filler ratio that would put you to sleep afterwards with tomato sauce and melted mozzarella cheese served in a cast iron pan. The flatbread was crispy and also tasted good and not over done on the sauce or cheese. the grilled Zucchini was perfect and not mushy with smoked mozzarella, basil, chili based olive oil. The Shrimp Arrabiatta is composed of two extra jumbo shrimps, two small scallops with a light and spicy tomato sauce over two crispy polenta cakes that are about an inch square each. I liked the crispy side of the polenta and left the center portion, nothing wrong with it, that's just me, I finished my meal with your basic cappuccino, no artsy design or mile high foam. I have no complaints about service, and I liked the food and the look of the Bistanqo, the fish tank! But if I wanted to do Italian I think I would a have a hard time picking between Toscana 49 which is on the next block and Bistanqo, the major difference is the menu items available and Bistanqo is more gluten-free. read more

While visiting NYC, my sister and I were looking for gluten-free restaurant options. Bistango popped up on Yelp. It turned out to be a charming place nestled in the Kimberly Hotel. We only had about an hour to order, eat and walk back to our hotel to pick up the kids. Our waiter was very friendly and offered a gluten free option for any menu item we chose. Since my sister must eat gluten free, she was beyond thrilled to get her own basket of gf bread that tasted so delicious she was almost afraid to eat it fearing the waiter had made a mistake. She was also excited to order eggplant Parm, a dish she hadn't eaten in three years! The meals we had were exceptional and the service outstanding. We were able to keep to our time frame of one hour. Would highly recommend - Safron Parpardelle: We felt the least for this dish. Was a bit bland and flavorless. Wow. If you look up the definition for average, this tango will be somewhere below that definition. Our hotels restaurant is under construction, so we did some googling and decided on this tango based on locale. We could not have been more underwhelmed. We have visited the city every Christmas for the last several years and have never had a worse meal. The cheese tray is/are literally slices of deli cheese from the neighborhood grocer. Garnish? Ha! Just sad slices of deli cheese on a plate. We had to ask for something as simple as a glass of ice more than once. The cheese flatbread was worse than the Annie's pizza that I heat up for my kids every Friday night. Please, I beg of you...
