I came back recently since the salon reopened and everything is very clean! They take your temperature and you have the wash your hands before they begin. There were was a barrier when you do your nails and they only have 2 clients at the same time but spaced 6 ft if not more apart - along with additional barrier. I came across Bisou on a friend's instagram and decided to make an appointment here to treat myself after hitting a recent career milestone. I booked online with Asami about three weeks in advance, but a few days prior they emailed me to say that Asami was unavailable so my appointment would be with Ayumi instead (which was totally fine with me - they both have super impressive instagrams!) I booked a Signature Art session (120 minutes for $120) and did some research on Bisou's instagram beforehand to look for designs I wanted. I showed Ayumi a blue floral design I liked but asked if she could do pink cherry blossoms instead. Along the way she kept checking in with me to make sure I liked how it was coming out. I absolutely loved the end result! It completely exceeded my expectations and is a perfect look for spring. Bisou is a bit pricey and I normally just do my own nails at home, but I would definitely come back for a special occasion to get some amazing nail art. read more

Great customer service! This is the best nail salon I've ever went. I couldn't make an appointment last time in NYC (May 2019) the salon was booked whole my trip week. So this time I could make an appointment with Noriko. She was a great artist! They gave me an original nail oil, original nail file and removal sets for customer who can't make an appointment to removal during COVID because reduced the salon's capacity, and great customer service. This is as good as it gets. Manicures are usually a treat in my book (vs. being perfunctory) and that is what you get here. Even though appointments can be stressful, it also cuts out wait time. I have been a long time customer of Bisou, almost from the first day they opened. This nail salon changed the way I look at my nails! This is a Japanese nail art studio, so that means: - the condition of your nails and hands is most important then the aesthetics. As in USA, most people just want long nails, so they will use acrylic and powders, all sorts of real harsh abrasive products on their nails at their local nail shop. Most people coming in the first time will have really bad natural nails, which means the picture you bring in for the design example, your hand won't look like this as your nails need BISOU rehab for the first couple of visits (for me, one visit each month for 4 months did the trick) - a nail artist is someone who can free hand design anything, not using a pre set stencil or "you can only pick from these designs". Your imagination is your best friend here! - the process is long. If you're getting any design, will take at least one hour for the nail care and one hour for the design (at least) - this isn't a corner nail salon, think of this place as a luxury spa or hair salon, you wouldn't assume you could just walk into the la prairie spa without an appointment would you? Book a spot early! They book up fast so make sure you arrange for a spot ASAP. I had never done gel on my nails as the gel always makes my real nails turn into paper. After the first time, my nails are stronger and longer then ever before as the para gel doesn't need to have the nail roughed up before applying. Also, as the para gel is super durable, I only go to get my manicure once a month as opposed to 2-4x/ month (money saving) All in all, this is the only place I go to for manicures. It's very sad that I have to take two stars off since I thought I found my 10 tiny canvas spot but I was mistaken. I will probably come back because there are so few Japanese paragel salons in the city for now but with much reluctance. This updated review is after going to the salon three times, all for gel removal and Minimal Art (appx $100). I love each of the designs and also the service. The quality of the paragel is great too. This updated is review is sadly for service. 2.5 but I'm rounding up. I recently tried to change my appointment for this week, nothing out of the ordinary. At first I called and got a recorded message and no way to leave a message or speak to a live human. Then I emailed. Three days later I received a reply with no available appointments at a mutually convenient time. I then emailed again for alternate dates. ANOTHER three days later went by without a reply. And of course by that time there were no appointments. I replied again and yes, it has been days since a reply. Grace period for the holiday weekend but it's been almost two weeks since my simple inquiry to change my appointment. For a place that charges +$100 for nails, the very least they can do is to pick up the phone or reply by email within a business day. This isn't life or death like a doctors office or maybe I'm just not a valued customer like the models and famous people who probably get more attention because they're doing fancier services. read more

Yes, that's correct, I spent $150+ on nails that didn't last me more than a week. So disappointed. After waiting 2 weeks for an appointment, The quality of the work was terrible. I think they are specialized in nail art so they are really not good at shaping and basic new sets. There is no precision or attention to detail in their work. I wanted a ombré set but it was so ugly I had to ask them to remove it and do one color. If you charge 140$ for a new one color extension set ( which is CRAZY expensive even for downtown Manhattan) then your work better be perfect. Far from it. I have never had gel nails before, so I found the best place in the city, I was not disappointed. It is extremely clean, well lit and cozy. The technicians are meticulous. She (Norico, forgive me if I misspelled) explained everything in detail each step of the process. It is quite a process be prepared! Two hours later, she fixed two broken nails to even everything out and I have a beautiful two tone ombré effect for my wedding. My first experience at Bisou was great. I was very happy with the design of the nails, attention to detail of the artist, color choices etc. I was just a little disturbed that my artist used an electric file (it looks like a dremel) to take off my regular gel polish. I figured it was the way of the shop so what choice did I have? My artist warned me that it might burn to put my nails under the UV the first time but this was "normal". She was right, it burned a lot. But after the first time it was fine. I assumed this was because of the thicker Japanese gel they use, not because of the filing. I enjoyed the manicure for 3 weeks and then came for a 2nd appointment. During this second appt. my manicurist used the same electric file to remove the gel, but then every single application under the UV lamp was burning. I immediately knew something was wrong. She again told me the burning was normal. About 3 days later the gel starting chipping off. This had never happened before in all my experience having a gel manicure. By the 2nd week it was chipped and cracked on many nails. After 3 weeks I went back to my old shop for removal and a new gel application. During this removal it became very clear that my nails were very thin under the gel. Bisou had ruined my nails. They had removed layers of my nail during the last gel removal leaving my nails uneven, thin and flimsy. I was heartbroken. It has taken nearly 3 months to finally grow them out completely. My nails are normally very THICK and STRONG - I never had extensions and never had any problems until my visit there. Please be warned that the thicker gel they use must be filed off electrically and during that process you may lose your beautiful claws. Proceed with caution. read more

I usually do my own nails but wanted to get gel for a week-long trip. I'm so glad I chose Bisou- I've never had this kind of wear, even from gel, before. I had my manicure on December 27th, and it is now January 5th. My nails are growing out, but there is virtually no wear on the manicure itself, and it still looks as shiny as ever. I have washed dishes, packed and unpacked suitcases, zipped and unzipped stubborn coats and bags, opened boxes and peeled off tape and labels. My manicurist, Mily, was very sweet and polite, and her skills are just amazing- not one speck of polish was out of place. The environment itself is nice, even though it's small, and they play soothing jazzy music. It's a little expensive but I still can't get over the incredible wear of this manicure! read more

I walked out of the salon and almost burst into tears because my dream bridal nails were... hot pink. They looked so different in the salon and even then... For how much I paid, the artist should have tried multiple colors on me since I paid extra just to pick the color. My wedding was in Minnesota that week, so I flew home and had to have my nails redone. Definitely go here if for an everyday manicure... DO NOT go here if you are a bride. I really am a big fan of this place considering that I have been going here for two years now. Initially I would just get regular manicures that amazingly would last at least 7 days. I had bad experiences in the past with gel ie. the process would wreck my nails. So it took a while for me to get back in. But on a whim I did and I am so glad. My natural nails are the longest they have ever been and I have been able to experiment and have so much fun with different colors and designs. Turns out I am a nail girl. Simple Art takes about 90 minutes start to finish and starts at $90 - you can see examples showing the difference between Simple and Signature Art on BISOU's Instagram. The salon itself is very clean and modern, with comfortable seats and phone chargers at each station. Each salon staff was really sweet and professional. I booked with Asami who was incredible. She was very patient and friendly, and has an incredible eye for detail. She took one look at an Instagram photo that I showed her and was able to reproduce it without any problem. Her artwork was so precise which blew me away. My nails lasted for 3 weeks without any issues and I was so sad that I had to take the nails off when they finally grew out. BISOU was on my nail art bucket list for awhile, and I decided to treat myself before my best friend's wedding in which I was a bridesmaid. I usually just do my own nails at home, but they always end up chipping and/or breaking because I cook a lot. I'd gotten nail art done in S. Korea a few times for a pretty penny and I was curious to see how some of the places in the city compared. I made a reservation with ASAMI for SIMPLE ART which starts at $90. Before going in for my reservation, I scoured BISOU's instagram as well as other nail artists' pages to see what color and design I wanted. I brought in three photos of different designs and asked Asami to mix and match. I don't remember the name of the woman who prepared my nails, but both she and Asami were so precise and thorough cleaning and shaping my nails. They use this tool that I've never seen before to cut your cuticle. Asami immediately asked if I cook a lot -- that woman has a very keen eye! Asami was so fun to talk to while she did my nails and she has such high and great energy. She was training the woman who helped prep my nails and so I know she was very, very thorough and careful. Even while she was putting on the base coat of the gel, she took her time making sure that the surface of each nail was level and even. I really appreciated this because my nails looked perfect AF when she was done. For the art, I asked her to do one white marble nail, two pink marble with gold flecks, two nails with gold glitter ombre, and just one plain pink nail. As I write this review, it'll be TWO weeks tomorrow since I got my nails done. While they've grown out a little bit, you can't really tell unless you stare at your nails and they have NOT chipped at all. I'll be sad when they grow out too much and I have to go get them removed. TIPS: They offer complimentary fixes if something happens to your nails within a week of your reservation. We all have accidents! Also, they tell you that if you are going to get the gel removed at another salon, that you tell them that they need to shave off more than usual because their gel is a bit denser (?) than usual shellac, etc... I'll definitely be back to BISOU to try out different and more intricate designs for special occasions and for treat-yoself day to get the regular gel polish! read more

I'm extremely sad to right this review because I love norico and her work and I think she is truly amazing but something just changed. I went in for my normal gel extensions and my normal shape (Coffin) and I'm extremely picky and I like my nails absolutely perfect and before she filed my nails I hated them. I shared those feelings of course, but then she filed them and they looked great again and I apologize that I'm so annoying because I believe I truly am. so before norico started painting I noticed that too much gel was added to one nail and it looked to fat, I told her and she said it looks fine, but after she painted I truly saw it even more. I'm was very sad about this because it was a noticeable difference. You could physically see norico happiness go away and frustration came across her face. Asami stepped in and finally saw what I meant. She then fixed it YAY. But you thought it was a happy ending well it wasn't. I went to check out to see an extra $7 charge because "I had to fix your nail and you didn't tell me sooner" I paid it and kept my mouth shut. I then later wrote the business to express why I was upset about the change and I got long messages explaining why and that each customer only gets 1 hour and 45 minutes and that they always need to spend extra time on me, that I must understand from a business prospective on why things were done this way. And also I got, next time we will need to charge you for the extra time you spend here. I honestly hurt that this was the response i received. After paying hundreds of dollars here I was a customer that always came back because of the amazing customer service and great work but I'm just very upset that I don't know if I can come back. Update on the nails, it must have been bad luck for me because the nails turned back with 4 days on having them and I had some other nail issues. Best manicure I've ever received. The gel is out of this world! Very elegant and you can tell it's a healthier option than typical nail salons. No smell.
