I LOVE this place. Mikey has done wonders to my hair. After years of having my hair bleached, they are the only one who has done it right the first time. For context, my hair is black, and they got it to the perfect, warm butter shade I've been looking for. Everyone else I've been to has not only taken forever, but left me with fried, purple-tinged hair. But, Mikey got the job done quick and to my preference, Not only that, but they nail my alternative haircut requests. I just got my brows done with Laura, and she did AMAZING. I'd been trying to do them myself at home to no avail; they'd end up wonky and never how I wanted. Laura did wonders on my thick brows and got them to a flattering thinness and shape. I had a prior reservation but when I checked in for my appointment, I was told that there was no reservation on my name which was weird. I made an appointment for hair color a week before and called the morning of my appointment day to confirm the appointment infact. However, they had me wait for 25 minutes and took me in finally. The stylist was good, she did a perfect color match. However, it was too expensive. I went just for root touch up and I only pay $35 in my regular salon. I had to go here because I couldn't get an appointment with my usual salon and that costed me about a $100 just for route touch up. The price is insane. Otherwise I had a good experience read more

Not only was she rude to me, she also was rude to other potential clients who walked in. I had my hair done at the Bishops on south Lamar. Absolutely DO NOT get your hair colored there. I worked with Lulu, who in total had me there about 7 hours....to achieve nothing other than ruin my hair... I will say that if you're looking for a fade or men's hair cut, one of their employees, Cole, did a really great job. Every client was pleased, fades were tight, kind to the clients. In the 7 hours I was there Lulu was rude to every single client she interacted with. She seemed annoyed at every persons attempt at trying to explain what you want done with your hair. Lulu will be sure to make you feel like a total idiot. I asked for a shadow root with honey blonde balayage...I got an all over foil with the wrong color, wrong toner, wrong roots added poorly and the wrong color. Asked for a trim of JUST the split ends and expressed to her how I had been growing my hair out for years....she took a ton of length off and it's uneven when I had my hair fixed they had to refix the cut and the color. Had my hair re-done professionally with color correction at Smooshine on the drag. The manager at Bishops on South Lamar did offer to personally fix my hair, when I explained to her that I was uncomfortable with that plan and had no desire to be back in her salon, she further explained that their cooperate policy is no refunds. That's funny because I don't remember signing anything like that, I ONLY signed a chemical waiver form. I do not recommend Bishops as a woman period. For color or cut, avoid all together. Worst hair experience in my entire life. Ruined my hair and Lulu went out of her way to be rude. Did not even check to see if I was happy with the overall outcome... no test strand was done before she went in... the brand of color they use is called "Danger Jones" and it's absolute trash....that awful color brand plus a lack of skill had me leaving with my hair yellow and hideous. I had initially written a detailed review regarding the work done on my hair by Sarah from Bishops on S. Lamar Blvd. Since, the manager constructed a bargain with me to pull down my review and henceforth since I would like to update it, because that was low customer service. My recent change for the review went like this, which I honestly meant: "Bishops was a solid customer experience with a responsive customer service team and very trustworthy talents. I recommend them to visitors wanting to receive an eclectic style or a clean look. Great for the summer! Keeping it up!" My initial review went like this: "The hair stylist plain does not listen, making a great deal of errors each and every single time I get a chance to get a cut/color. As a customer I get a redo within 7 days, but they pass your service over to the next stylist over. Typically they cut more off or give you the same cut expecting a change of view. after expressing the concerns with the service provided, and past/present situations with not only myself but my family members during the Holidays, they expressed they did not want to see me again." My final review rests on the fact that the manager spent some time talking to me, in-depth, about the technicalities of the haircut itself. Altogether, I was bullied with a rude undertone and biased remarks. So, this is a correction I would be pleased to uphold. read more

I got a long haircut from Lulu and she was super rude since I stepped in. This is the worst service I have received in my life. Claiming she has 16 yrs of experience but didn't have even a bit of patience to understand what the customer is asking for. She was just not letting me say anything and was showing attitude that she is the assistant manager and has a lot of experience. Never seen such hostility at Bishops before. Lulu doesn't know customer service at all. They have a policy of wait window of 15 min and I reached there within that time window, but don't know how can someone be so rude. read more

Bishops is a great inclusive salon that has a diversity of hair specialists anywhere from barbers to colorists. It is a gender and LGBTQ+ friendly and safe space and I have noting but great things to say about several of the employees who work there. I have gotten taken care by three individuals one who sadly doesn't work there anymore but Kass and Lydia are absolute gems and skilled specialists and kind people and still work at S Lamar. I have recently delved into coloring my hair and bleaching it. As someone who's is kind of particular and had virgin hair I was trepidatious and Lydia has always put me at ease and steered me in the right direction. She makes the hours it takes to bleach and color very enjoyable and always leaves me looking clean, fresh and confident with whatever color or bleach we decide to do that month. She had helped me with my upkeep of my color and bleaching my roots for almost a year now and even on one occasion when the dye and toner didn't quite cover correctly she fixed it free of charge for me (they were very minor changes I was being particular). The staff cares greatly about customer satisfaction and has always made me feel safe and taken care of. Overall would highly recommend this Solon :) read more

i tried giving them a call to speak with the manager and no one picked up. so here i am to spread awareness for others who may want to go blonde. i had high expectations when i had my blonde dye appt this past weekend. the woman i set the appt up was so kind and made me feel i was in good hands. i was told the stylist i was scheduled with was a color specialist. the stylist was friendly but was very distracted. she was answering the phone, folding laundry and eating snacks - i felt like an afterthought in her chair. the dye job was done in 2 hours. i've gotten my hair dyed in the past and it took 3-4 hours. i feel she may rushed it and didn't care to perfect it. also, i expressed to her my scalp was burning and she said it was totally normal. i ended up with small chemical burns all over my scalp. i don't really have anything else to say about the work itself, please look at the pictures and see how the stylist sent me home. she didn't even show me the back. i was HORRIFIED when i got home. i am not a color expert but what i do know is, i asked for a pale blonde and was given patchy brass instead. my partner and i rushed to sally the next day to even out the patchy areas and toned my hair to remove the brassiness. i will never return to bishops again. read more

honestly, i'm sooooo over this place. their hairdressers are just not that great and there's always a mistake every time I go. I gave them the benefit of doubt for way too long... hairdressers there all do one same style or simply can't do what you ask of them, but they won't be upfront about the fact. I really wanted to love this place as it's queer friendly and affirming, but I cannot keep coming back. I have been unable to grow my hair for almost two years at this point because they keep cutting my hair way too short. if not for them, my hair would be at chin length now but I still have a pixie cut. oh and they've never offered a refund every time I called out on their mistakes. DO NOT COME HERE if you care about your hair. other mistakes:: dying my hair blue instead of platinum silver like I asked for, cutting my hair too short multiple times, shaved off my eyebrow when I asked for a slit AND they gave me an incredibly uneven haircut, austin's hairdressers are generally bad but this is something else. poor customer service and they are not skilled. edit (6/13): the hairdresser who cut my hair yesterday was Lulu Gaines. she didn't even pay attention to the picture I showed her and just did her own thing, she cut my hair like 2-3 inches too short when my hair was already short. hairdressers at bishops have NO idea how to cut a medium short length hair, as multiple hairdressers there have dishonored my desires. hence my hair staying at this pixie length for about TWO years now. awful. lulu just looked sheepish and she didn't even apologize, she tried to blame it on me and said that I said I wanted all the volume gone. I did not say that, I just asked for my hair to be thinned out a bit so it's less voluminous. I guess lulu can't read. (I typed down notes and also showed a pic) apparently the store doesn't do refunds but i'm determined to get my money back because you literally can't fix short hair, especially not at this length. to be honest the cut is pretty terrible too... no wonder lulu's previous business closed because she couldn't have had too many returning clients. finally, the only thing Lulu did was give me an extra stamp for their 10 haircuts and one free haircut stamp card. the joke is on them because I am never returning, not even for a "fix up". I made a mistake by giving them so many chances but their hairdressers just don't care or are lazy. it's most likely a skill issue, though. i've literally not stopped crying since I got my horrible cut from lulu gaines yesterday! read more

I made an appointment for today at 2:30, then they called me asked me if we could move it to 3 with a different barber. That was totally fine. So I went in expecting to have them wash my hair and cut it like they always do because that's what I put down for my appointment. However the woman cutting my hair just sat me down and asked what I wanted. I just wanted it blunt above my shoulders. She didn't ask or fix my middle part and she just starting cutting my dry hair. The entire haircut took a total of 4 minutes and I've never left so disappointed. I tipped 25% and spent a good amount of money on this haircut because i thought once I got home it would look better after I washed it, I was wrong. It's completely uneven. I've become a regular here and I come to Chloe, she was the one who cut my hair short in a pixie and she gave me such a beautiful cut that I decided to keep the hair permanently. This salon is lgbtqia friendly, the staff has been awesome to me so far and they're flexible with scheduling. I like how every time I've asked for a change they don't fight me on it, they just give it. (I have very thick and coarse hair so a lot of people have opinions on how I should do my hair..) Today I got a single hair color process done with Chloe, I got some colorblock black and orange in the front for Halloween -- she did a great job! Hair looks dope but subtle enough since I work in an elementary school. I could go on and on, but the best part about everything is that their value is a bonus! Fabulous prices. One of the worst experiences I've had getting my hair cut. Lauren or Laurel was super passive aggressive the entire time. Half way through she just decides she's done cutting, telling me she doesn't have any more time. I had let her know that I was running a few minutes late, which she said was fine, to get there and have her spend 15 minutes on my hair and tell me that she was done. On top of that the entire cut she's super passive aggressive. She asked where I lived and then tells me it sucks...why are you in the service industry if you're just going to be rude and condescending? I would definitely avoid this place. I was referred to Bishop's by a friend and I was beyond happy with the results! I had not cut my hair in 3 years and my hair was extremely long. I got a rounded, layered haircut with curtain bangs and I absolutely love it! I came in very nervous for my first hair cut since the pandemic. Brit was very nice but acted like she had never seen a mixed person's hair before. My hair is short, not past my ears and I needed a trim on the sides. I was clear about wanting to keep the length of the hair around my bangs and neck. My hair looked great wet! But upon drying I've realized my sides are completely uneven. Brit cut my bangs to about half an inch and un even from rest of my head and the length from around my neck is gone. Cleaning up my neck and taking the length from the hair she said she wasn't going to cut are different things. She talked way more than cut which is a red flag I should've paid attention to. I've been wanting to blame myself for a bad haircut but Brit did this...;( I've had so much hair trauma in my life I wasn't expected to get a botched cut from a "professional". Sometimes I don't review places like this because once everybody finds out about them they get too busy! If you want a hot bath and champaign durning your hair cut skip this place but if you are looking for a place that is comfortable friendly and reliable then give it a shot. I recently moved to Austin and was so surprised at the cost of a womens haircut around here! Thankfully, I stumbled upon Bishops for their much more affordable $40 long haircut and booked it immediately. My stylist, Marco, was so nice and chill, listening intently to what I wanted and checking in throughout the haircut to ensure I liked the progress. He was absolutely wonderful and I think this may be my favorite haircut yet. He really paid attention to the natural wave of my hair to curate a cut that would be flattering and also look close to what I had described wanting (I love the look of a shag haircut, but wanted to take baby steps and see if I liked it, which was his great recommendation after chatting with me). Bishops is nothing fancy or spa-like similar to many other places- it's just a cool place with chill people giving great haircuts, which is definitely what I had been looking for. Avoid as long as Lacey Kay is the store manager! The worst and most disrespectful approach I've ever experienced in Austin. I had booked an appointment at 12.30 pm and last minute saw the email sent at 11.15 with a time change to 12.15. I called them to say I am on my way, driving as fast as possible and they said it is ok if I get there in 10 mins. I got there within 10mins, the store manager said unfortunately she can't accommodate me because I am late, the stylist is not available and there is not enough time. I said I already washed my hair, I will be ok with whatever could be done in the remaining time, I am already booked till 1 pm. I needed my hair done for an important event in the evening and I couldn't get it done. I would have not wasted my lunch break driving there, rushing back to work on time after arguing with the store manager just to get an answer why, If I was told when I called the store, if I knew the store manager with her own discretion will change the 10 mins policy to 7 mins when I get there and not accommodate me. It is really unfair and disrespectful to have these people to do any type of business serving people. I assume this is because I booked it through ClassPass and they are not earning enough, paying commission etc. But what they don't know it is through ClassPass they would have me as a new customer, I would have booked at other salons I am already going. I am regularly booking hair services and wanted to give a try to Bishops. I would happily book others from them if I would have a good experience at my first visit. read more

I finally made the decision to get a haircut after 3 Months. I tend to put off getting regular hair cuts for some reason, and current events were a good excuse. I'm not picky about how my hair cut turns out, as long as the barber/stylist takes time to look at my hair, asses the situation and goes for something rather than kinda going through the motions. I gotta say, Nick did not disappoint. He has serious range, is talented and is incredibly friendly. The Gentleman before me got a Colored Mohawk, and he then turned around and fought through my curls and frizz with ease. After delivering a professional stylish cut Nick recommended some affordable hair product that would compliment my cut. Top notch cut, great service, fun comfortable atmosphere. Great great hair salon! I came in with some hair issues that I was self-conscious about (shedding mostly) which has kept me out of a salon for a year. But I saw the great reviews and took a chance. Lacey was so so helpful to consult about those issues without making me feel embarrassed! And she left me with a wonderful cut with deep conditioning that made me feel so refreshed and like my hair looks healthier than it has in a long time. They are also ALL super friendly and make you feel welcome, even with a beverage if there is any wait!
