I needed a touch up and a different shape to my hair so I easily rescheduled with my last stylist Sharell through their booking tool (mangomint.co), paid my deposit, and set my appointment. Or so I thought. I was devastated when Heather (great receptionist btw) reached out to me a day or two later to tell me that Sharell was no longer with the salon. *Cue the violin* BUT God had something better in store because she encouraged me to switch my services to be done by Nykeria. I really like this salon and I didn't want to start the search all over. The handoff was seamless. Great decision. Please understand that what I'm about to say is overwhelming positive: this wonderful woman is a BEAST in the hair game. Full of life. Great communicator and hair educator. Wonderful with her hospitality. Treated me with gentility but also with confident hands. She did multitask on another client during my appointment, but I was A-OK with that given that I wasn't her original client and it didn't really burden my appointment's timeline. I appreciated the thoroughness and attention to detail nonetheless. LOVE the cut. I wish it didn't happen the way that it did, but I'm SURELY satisfied with her as my stylist moving forward. Extra perks: delicious and hot green tea served by Heather upon entry, a buzzy salon environment that doesn't get too loud yet also plays good music, complimentary WiFi, toilet seat covers with a clean restroom, a changing room with clean smocks.... WOW.

After calling multiple places and speaking to a lot of people, I decided on Shear Salon. The salon is a bit hidden, but that is kind of nice. The place is huge and airy with very tall ceiling. It looks like a warehouse which is cool. They have wine and beverages as well as cookies when you walk in. The two girls behind the desk were very kind. The person doing my hair was Chiquita (probably spelled wrong). She was very outgoing and not snobby at all. She listened to what I wanted and walked me through all of the steps she was taking. It took over 3 hours to complete my hair and she was great through all of it. I got a ton of compliments on my hair. So, if I had to change 1 thing or suggest 1 thing it would be that they get reclining chairs for the shampoo area. The sinks are great because they move and rest on your shoulders. However, I have metal in my spine and my body just does not relax when sitting in the odd position. I highly recommend this salon and recommend Chiquita too!

Shear Salon was a little hard to find. The sign is not very prominent. It's the first suite in the brick-looking complex. The metal fence looks locked, but it's not. I'm looking for a talented stylist w/great customer service and the stylist are into hair care which means they carefully handle you & your hair. I need a salon that promotes healthy hair. I went on a Fri. night be and lurked around. A friendly stylists greeted me answering all my questions about my hair which I wore in it's natural state so they'd know what they were working with. No one tried to charge me extra for natural hair. I observed an up-to-date, clean salon. The stylist all had healthy hair which is important to me. The all had good color jobs, clean ends, and healthy hair. I found no smokey hair dryers w/clients sliding into their seats because their scalp was being burned. Reputable products were being used. All clients had great edges & no broken fly aways. Most of all the customers seemed happy and everyone had healthy bouncy hair. I showed up the next day with my hair pre-poo'd with my oil mix and my bag of goodies. I pulled out my shampoo, beer rinse & homemade conditioner & no one flinched. LILY washed my hair and gave me the best head massage. She respectfully followed all my directions, carefully distributing all my products from root to tip with great care. She also carefully detangled my hair. Ok wash went well. Now my roller set & styling... MORENA moved through my natural roots with no problem & set my hair so my roots were laying flat. She was genuinely concerned w/what I wanted so when I explained I wanted the blow dryer set on low w/a light pass over my roots she happily obliged. She even ran dryer on cool which gives your hair more elasticity. Ladies when I tell you this was best Dominican experience ever!!! Not once did I hear my hair snap due to aggressive combing, nor did I ever feel heat on my scalp. She never tried to force me into something that was convenient for her. She trimmed my hair and was clear on how much i wanted off before she started. She massaged my scalp prior to styling so my head was loving me for finding this place. All the other customers left w/smiles and good color jobs, varying cuts like bobs, layers etc... But everyone had movement and swang. They seemed to have very good relationships with their clients, great people skills, and magic hands & technique. Thank you LILY & MORENA. Final price was the usual $35 plus $10 for my trim. Hopefully this was thorough enough...

But after…read morecarefully attempting to do it herself, she realized she needed a color correction specialist for fear that she would damage her hair. Unfortunately, our regular stylist was out of town, so I called Lotus after reading great reviews. When I called, I specifically asked if they had someone there who specialized in color correction. I sent pictures of my daughter's hair so they could see what the job entailed. The person I spoke with assured me they had a stylist who could do it and scheduled an appointment. I spoke to the stylist after she looked at her hair, and she said fixing it wouldn't be a problem because her hair was in excellent condition. She told me it would be okay to use bleach to go back to being blonde. I had no reason not to trust her. I'll share the photos of what this 'stylist' did to her hair after being in her chair for 6 hours. She left high-volume bleach on her head for 45 minutes under infrared heat. I didn't go to beauty/hair school, but even I knew that was a mistake. My daughter spoke up, but the stylist assured her that it would be fine. It was not. She destroyed her hair beyond recognition - it was fried, with clumps of hair falling out. The stylist had to cut off 6 inches of her hair from the damage she had done, and the color is something you could not even imagine. This girl was new and did not have the experience to take on color correction - a novice. Someone -- the owner or a senior stylist should have monitored this and stepped in to take over, but no one did. The photos speak volumes - 1) daughter's natural blonde color 2) her as a brunette 3) daughter's attempt at lightening it 4) Lotus stylist results I tried to contact owners before this review, but there wasn't a direct email for either of them. Furthermore, there was no attempt from anyone to contact me or apologize to her. Unbelievable. If this were my business, I would be mortified. I wish I could give zero stars, but unfortunately, it's not an option.
