I was nervous about cutting and coloring my hair. I wanted to cut off 9 inches and dye my hair and add highlights. After calling multiple places and speaking to a lot of people, I decided on Shear Salon. The salon is a bit hidden, but that is kind of nice. The place is huge and airy with very tall ceiling. It looks like a warehouse which is cool. They have wine and beverages as well as cookies when you walk in. The two girls behind the desk were very kind. The person doing my hair was Chiquita (probably spelled wrong). She was very outgoing and not snobby at all. She listened to what I wanted and walked me through all of the steps she was taking. It took over 3 hours to complete my hair and she was great through all of it. I got a ton of compliments on my hair. So, if I had to change 1 thing or suggest 1 thing it would be that they get reclining chairs for the shampoo area. The sinks are great because they move and rest on your shoulders. However, I have metal in my spine and my body just does not relax when sitting in the odd position. I highly recommend this salon and recommend Chiquita too! read more

I got a hair trim by Jordan. She was super chatty, but nice... I was tired since I came at the end of a work day, but she didn't really seem to notice that I didn't want to make small talk and asked me questions throughout the cut & style. But she did a good job on my haircut, and was super fast. I got a wash, cut, and blow dry in about 30 minutes. I got a Half Off Depot coupon- so only paid $18 for $40 haircut. Can't beat that! I found Shear Salon via a daily deal site, and got haircut from Kellie in December. Then this week she did an overall color (fixing some of the weirdness resulting from me using box color for most of the last couple years) and another cut. Both were great! And here's why I really like Kellie - she's completely non-snotty, non-judgmental, and non-critical, while being helpful, offering advice and solutions, and listening to what I want. My hair is - to say the least - a mess. Thinning, messed-up color, I refuse to have a fashionable cut (I like to be able to pull it into a ponytail) - but she never once made me feel like the dowdy middle-aged lady I am, and that some stylists would hate having to service. I ended up here accidentally and not preparing to get my hair did. I was just hanging out with my aunt who DID have an appointment. One thing led to another, and while she was cooking under Thunder Dome, Jordan gave me a quick snip. Jordan is friendly and chatty. Some people dislike that, but I'll say this...she is just being herself. I like that. I always feel uncomfortable when your stylist tries to make conversation but it feels forced. Jordan is one of those "never met a stranger" types, I believe. She works really fast and she did exactly what needed to be done. The salon is tucked away behind the Office Depot (park in back). The decor is fresh. The staff friendly. Plus, it's small scale, so you don't get that cattle call feel of some of the big names. I've been going to 2 separate van Michael Salons (one for cut the other for color since they won't allow their stylists to do both) and I have been paying a small FORTUNE!!!! Thankfully someone referred me to Beck who cut AND colored my hair for 1/3 of the price and in less time as a color alone at Van Michael! I purchased a half off depot coupon for partial highlights. Like many who've posted before, I needed a new hairdresser as mine was no longer in the industry. I'm used to paying a good amount to get highlights so the half off depot coupon was a nice surprise. I made an appointment with Jessica and the rest was history. I've never had my hair done so quickly and efficiently. My hair looked fabulous, the best it's ever looked, after I left. It's hard for companies to put a coupon on a site like that and expect return customers but I've since been back and will continue going. The service is excellent and Jessica did an extraordinary job. While I'm not thrilled about pricing, it seems fairly standard for what I'm getting done anyway so I don't have any complaints. I met Liz through my dear friend Caitlin, and was planning to get my hair color BEFORE the new year, but faith has it , I did not have the time. New Year rolls around, and I am happy to say I am newly engaged- and with super dark hair, I felt I needed to work towards getting a lighter and warmer hue. With that in mind, I decided to make an appointment with Liz. I went on Yelp to look up the address, and BEHOLD, I found a coupon ! Well this made the visit even more enticing. Parking is a little odd, Park in the Office Depot lot, and walk through the gates that has the Salon sign near it- do not park in the back of the building. The salon is nice and spacious, but the music is a tad loud to me, but maybe that is just me. Liz was super nice and we had fun talking about my engagement and sharing with her what I wanted in terms of color. She gave great advice on how to go 2 shades lighter without damaging my hair. Her highlight technique was great, very thin and natural, and she touched up on my gray hair in the process as well. The color (roots) and highlights came our very nice. The Price was even better! It was very reasonable. I also was recommended Moroccan-oil and the styling cream ( 20% off promo) , so I bought it, and was entered into a drawing, which I ended up winning!! My visit was prompted by a Half Off Depot coupon and my need to find a good stylist since my previous one no longer does hair. The salon was nice, the staff friendly and the facility clean. I was offered a drink and it started as a very good experience. I asked for a cut and color. I explained to my stylist that I wanted to keep the highlights and lowlights, but because it had been a long time since I first got them, I wanted to redo all my color, knowing it would be extra. She didn't. She gave me a partial. When she started drying my hair, I could still see the line where my roots had grown out. She repeatedly insisted it looked fine! I eventually convinced her to correct the problem. Then she wouldn't style it again. I was charged an extra $25 to correct the problem she created. I left with water dripping down my back even though I requested she at least blow the water out of it so I wouldn't get wet. This morning in the light of day, I have a multitude of gray strands still showing around my face. The cut looks good and the color is correct, but I won't go back. I was pretty disappointed because they did not give what I asked for at all. I wanted to cut my hair about two inches overall and get a lot of layers, but instead they just trimmed my hair. At first I thought maybe they just cut a little first before cutting a lot. But they never asked if I wanted it shorter or if it was a good length, and once another client came in, they just rushed through my hair. When I left it looked exactly the same as I got there. Ok so when I saw the location I was a bit worried because not many other businesses are in the same center but when I walked in Shear was alive. I had an online coupon for a cut, color, style which was great since I moved to the area not long ago and needed some serious work.Jessica was my stylist and she was centered, really picked up on what I wanted and went to town. She was totally able create type of style I was looking for as it was a 180 degree change, and gave me a fabulous cut, clean and chic... Oh and she snips with confidence... really, no fooling around and yet never once went to far and asked for feedback throughout the process. Couldn't have ask for more! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that: a. I think she was more shy than I to take my hair as short as I wanted it, maybe afraid I'd regret it. What I ended up with is a bit longer than I wanted but it's a gorgeous cut. As mentioned I went for a total change. b. It was such a fabulous experience that I wonder if it was beginner's luck! I love this place. The atmosphere is great, it doesn't feel like it's trying too hard to be trendy like some places- it's more of a natural, comfortable vibe (but still trendy!). Timothy is the BEST; he's patient with my indecisiveness and always has great suggestions. And the prices (for cuts, anyway, I haven't gotten any other services...yet!) are totally reasonable. I drove over an hour to get my hair colored by Jodi, and I will do it again! My hair from previous highlights (at a different salon) was way to blonde and I needed it darkened but still wanted to keep some highlights. All I can say is my color turned out amazing! I couldn't be happier with the results. Rachel did the cut for me after my color and it turned out great. She listened to what I wanted (and trust me that's hard since I have a hard time explaining exactly what I want) was friendly and very talented. They have makeup services as well here, I didn't take advantage of that due to time restraints but I did get my eyebrows waxed and the service matched my cut and color. I have never had such a terrible experience at a salon before. The first time I came here I was satisfied with the color, the price, but the cut was terrible. She trimmed just one layer and didn't do anything else as far as adding dimension. I was left with very uneven hair and had to cut it myself several times to make it look even. I did notice the unevenness when I got in my car so I went back and she "fixed it" but if my part was not exactly where it was the day I got the cut I had the uneveness again. So when I booked my next appointment I requested to not have the same stylist as last. When I got there everything was fine and while I was getting my hair colored the receptionist came up to me and said "did you request not to have so and so stylist or did we just not schedule you with her?" I thought that was an uncomfortable question to ask someone when the previous stylist was right next to me. I said I requested not to have her. I told my colorist that that made me feel uncomfortable and five minutes later the previous style comes up to me in an exaggerated passive aggressive matter and says "HEY!!! I haven't seen you in forever!!!!!!!" Keep in mind I had only seen her once. I don't know what was meant by this approach but regardless it made me, the customer, feel uncomfortable. When I get to the counter I am told that my total is $185, what?!??? My total the last Time was $115 and I got the exact same thing done. I am told that my cut was more expensive than last time. Which is absolutely ridiculous because I was never informed of this beforehand and honestly I shouldn't have to pay extra to get a cut that's actually done right. I'm also told that I got a gloss, Which again I was not informed that I was getting. I tell the receptionist this and her response is "well you wouldn't have liked your hair without the gloss" no apology no nothing. And then I'm told that my partial highlights were $85 and that last time I got an "all over" which was complete bologna to me because I literally got the exact same thing done as far as color. When I tell them about the uncomfortable situation that happened during my visit the girls behind the receptionist desk don't apologize for me feeling uncomfortable but instead they tell me that I misinterpreted the situation. I know that I didn't and even if I did it doesn't matter I am the customer and you should never make your customer feel the way they made me feel that day. This place is so catty and unprofessional and they have no respect for their customers I will NEVER go back. I have never been treated so poorly anywhere before. My girlfriends and I purchased Half Off certificate for Partial Highlights and cut from groupon at Shear Salon! Let me first begin by saying that I had no issue with the salon itself- the service and atmosphere is awesome. The workers are super nice. The techniques were really bad. My friends and my haircuts were done in 15-20 mins, they did not take their time. My service was done by Ashley, she did my highlights and it was horrible. It was super bright instead of caramel brown as she promised me. Additionally, the highlight were uneven. Some were brighter than the others and some strips were extremely chunky. I was so upset, and requested to come back to get it fixed. She toned down my hair for free of charge after seeing how upset I was (she said that she would have normally charge to tone down my hair because I have black hair). She refused to blow dry my hair the second time because of her manager. If I wanted to dry my hair, she would have to charge me a styling service. So I ran out with wet hair. I didn't brother requesting for her to re-cut my hair. I gave her a $40 tip because we were requested by Groupon to tip on the full price of the services. So I spent a total of $120 (with a groupon) for service and tips for a service that I considered unacceptable. I would not recommend anyone this salon even thought the workers are super nice. You can get better quality of work somewhere else for the same price without a coupon. Additionally, 4 friends of mine did not like their cuts or highlights jobs at all. I recently had my first visit to Shear Salon & loved it! I'd taken down a braided hairstyle so my hair needed some serious attention & Chiquita tackled it with ease. I received a wash, condition, & good trim because my ends were struggling lol. I like how Chiquita asked me if it was ok to cut a certain amount off prior to doing it. I've always been one to say "chop what you need to chop" so I don't mind a good trim when needed but a lot of stylists don't care to ask & the fact that she did was great! She's super sweet, great personality, & awesome customer service skills... & I can't leave out the fact that my hair was whipping in the wind when she finished!! I was looking for a natural hair stylist in the area where I live. I typically avoid going to the hair salon b/c stylists overcharge ($60-$100). I Googled "natural hair, chamblee, ga" and Timothy Keys' profile came up. I called to ask about pricing and was told a wash, trim, and press would cost about $50. The price was right and I figured it was worth a try. I came in for a consultation and Timothy was extremely nice. I was a little nervous bc the term "trim" can be subjective, but he reassured me that he would not do a hatchet job on my hair. He stuck to his word...he trimmed my hair well and styled it beautifully. The press lasted for two weeks and I was a happy camper. I would definitely recommend him. And don't be turned off by the fact that he's in a salon that is geared toward Caucasians. Let him work his magic and pay a fraction of the cost that natural hair salons charge. read more

dear jodi g, i felt hopeful after seeing your response to my review and contacted you via email, per your request shortly thereafter. i am beyond disappointed that it has been nearly 2 months since i sent you the email message (11/14/16) and i have yet to have had a response from you. in my message, i *thanked you for your concern and willingness to resolve this in a timely manner. *re-explained what had happened during my appointments & *asked for a refund of the $635 i had to pay & received nothing for it. *how much i liked your stylist and how much confidence i had in his ability to give me what i wanted which was very basic: darker shade of blonde & extensions. i was optimistic until your stylist turned my hair blue & then had a hissy fit when i asked him to fix it and then proceeded to sabotage my extensions by placing them in the back of my head stacked on top of one another instead of giving me length in the front as i had prior to my appointment & how we discussed. i am a newly-divorced, unemployed, single mother of two who wanted a fresh start in a new salon. i absolutely cannot let this go. shear salon needs to refund my $635. i got absolutely nothing for my money except a headache, very damaged hair, and a lot of stress. i look forward to resolving this in a timely manner and look forward to some positivity moving forward. read more

Zach G - As I have posted on other review sites in response to your obvious campaign to discredit me, it is disappointing that from the outset, all Shear has done is point the finger at me and refuse to accept that maybe, just maybe you have some liability here. At no point did you ever actually ask to inspect the extensions and so how is it even possible for you to have an informed opinion on what has caused them to fall out? All you have said is merely conjecture. No salon has an 100% success rate. Sometimes things go wrong and that is what happened. Why can't you just consider that? I have 2 independent expert opinions from stylists who specialize in extensions who both agree that the extensions were not fitted correctly. I know you want me to go away quietly, but $875 is a lot of money. I have 2 young children and so cannot just let this amount of money go with nothing to show for it. I am upset and disappointed that you have chosen to come after me in this manner. The reviews that have been posted suggesting that my complaint is somehow not real are suspicious to say the least and a clear effort on your part to try and discredit me. Well go ahead and do what you feel you must, but please at least understand that all I have done is have a bad experience, complain about it to the people that were responsible and ask for the situation to be rectified.
