During our first visit, I took a chance and ordered the grits. I normally avoid restaurant grits because they're almost always bland, flavorless and gelatinous. But the grits at Easy Like Sunday were completely different in the best way. Creamy with the slightest grainy texture and so perfectly seasoned that you don't need to add butter, salt, pepper or anything else. I had been daydreaming about those grits for two years. We finally made it back this past Friday and arrived when the doors opened at 9:00am. We were seated immediately. I ordered the Little Bit of Everything with eggs, bacon, those unforgettable grits and a thick, fluffy, delicious buttermilk pancake. That first spoonful of grits tasted exactly the way I remembered, maybe even better. My eyes actually welled up with tears. I know that sounds extreme but I'm not exaggerating. After waiting two years to taste them again, they felt familiar and comforting, like coming home. Our waitress, Diana, made the morning even more special. She was warm, welcoming and accommodating. When I told her I could nearly cry over those grits, she didn't make me feel silly or dramatic. She agreed saying,"Oh, I know! We have the best grits!" She said she completely understood why that first bite made me feel emotional. Being served by Diana felt like being taken care of by an old friend. We had never met her before, yet she treated us as though she had known us for years. Easy Like Sunday is a hidden little treasure tucked away across the street from Park Road Shopping Center. It's the kind of place you take someone special for a first date, an anniversary, a milestone, a birthday or simply a morning you want to remember. It always has a very long drive through wait. It is now two lanes and they keep it moving. We ate inside and got our order sooner than the drive through. While waiting for the delivery, a customer spilled and entire cup of coffee. It was a lot of coffee to mop up and then wipe down the splashed on booths. An employee came along and with a mop, got it all, all the while joking with those of us eating. And that mop was a real sucker-upper as she did the mop job on three mop drains. A real pro runs this place, Nicholas Isaac, so Kudos to you and your well-trained staff.
