An older eatery with a small interior eating area, and it shows a lack of maintenance. Not overly friendly counter help, almost like because they did not know you? We were treated much differently than the "regulars" while waiting for our food. The kitchen put out several orders well behind ours while we waited and waited some more. It felt off, and was a let down. Being treated differently as a customer because they don't know you? The food was okay, I guess. My partner did not think hers was very good at all. She did not eat it. Really wanted to like this spot, whats not to like about biscuits, but the treatment while there was much to be desired. 2.5 Stars it served its purpose but the staff treatment and total disregard of non regular customers is something else. Not sure if its worth the effort? 01259

I was wanting breakfast before I headed out to Staunton River, VA State Park. I searched Google and Yelp and really, ya'll need help in this area. Either that or you, for real, don't have many choices in the area. Let me say. Creamed Chipped Beef Gravy should be on EVERY breakfast menu in the South and when I put Chipped Beef Gravy in both, Google And Yelp, it pulled up everything, even Subway. It was depressing. So ok. Most interesting thing I saw was Sunrise Biscuit. Henderson North Carolina. I was about 40 min out? Ok.....let's go. My Yelp directions had me in circles. I changed to Google. Had to pull over couple times to refresh my directions. I finally arrived. It's a tiny little place. Rutted out parking area. I smacked my head and went on in. No line when I was there. 3 people. I ordered bacon egg and cheese biscuit, and gravy on the side, plus a large coffee. Order was called. Chef confirmed. Order of side gravy was yelled out for reconfirmation, Chef said I got it. Order up. My bacon egg and cheese biscuit had seen better days. A Lotta bacon! Though my egg was offsides and hanging on for dear life. It took me 1/2 a sugar jar to reach even near the level of flavor I like. That's because the coffee was a confirmed LARGE!!! I loved it. Thank you! I sat inside to eat, while mostly everyone else was to go. I enjoyed watching the customer's experiences. Everyone was nice. Regarding my food, my biscuit was not fluffy with some glistening grease. More-so, it stuck to my teeth and had to wash it down my throat with the coffee. Glad it was a large. My gravy.... my gravy was in a thimble compared to the rest of my meal. I had to giggle. It was good. I wasn't mad at all. My bill was less than $7. It stuck to my gut and was a great experience. I wont forget it! Thanks!!!

Very welcoming atmosphere. When you come in you're instructed to peruse the menu and order/pay at the register. Or you can seat yourself first, gather your utensils, and order from the menu more leisurely. I chose the latter option. Totally worth careful consideration of the menu IMO. I chose the Eye Opener Breakfast with extra side of grits, sausage and home fries. My family ordered the Salmon Smorrebord and the BLT&E on Crossant. Absolutely delectable. I'm definitely a fan and look forward to my next occasion to visit.

It's unassuming...and absolutely packed at weekday lunch for good reason. Even with a full house, we were seated quickly, and the service was outstanding. I never caught our server's name, but she was wonderful. Everyone here treats customers like neighbors instead of table numbers. We even watched servers pull up a chair to chat with regulars about what to order. That's not slow service--that's small-town hospitality at its finest. My husband ordered a burger and fries, and let me tell you--that burger came stacked, fresh, and delicious. I had the house-made pimento cheese sandwich with onion rings. The pimento cheese wasn't quite my preferred style, but it was still tasty. The fries and onion rings were standard, but they did the job. A word of warning: if you ask for "everything" on your burger, be prepared for the kitchen to interpret that very creatively. Chili? Sure. Whatever else they can find? Quite possibly. Consider yourself warned! One thing I'd love to see improved is pricing. The menu and hot bar don't list prices, so you're ordering with a little faith. Also, the sweet tea lives up to its Southern reputation--it is sweet. Thankfully, you can mix it with unsweet tea if your dentist would prefer you did. We didn't try the hot bar, but watching plates of meat-and-two sides come out made me second-guess my order. And don't even get me started on the desserts. The cobbler and banana pudding looked downright sinful. If you're looking for fancy, keep driving. If you're looking for genuine Southern hospitality, hearty home cooking, and a dining room where strangers chat while waiting in line, you've found your spot.

For starters we went with the Fried Calamari, this is first rate golden brown, tender to the bite and juicy with a great marinara for dipping. Some of the best we have had around. We gave the menu a good look over, a well rounded menu with something for pretty much every taste. I opted for the Austrailian Chicken, with bacon, mushrooms and cheddar along a nice rustic potato mash with a side green salad. The chicken was very good, nicely prepared with a unique finish. Tender and flavorful, two grilled boneless breasts covered with bacon. This is a hearty meal, great flavor and a fair value for the serving. My partner had the Chicken Pot Pie, a beautiful presentation and well prepared. A large serving with a flaky baked crust topping. She said it was very good as well.
