I was equally impressed with the retail side of the house. Joy was a pleasure to work with and I was fitted properly and trusted her opinions on the frames. I had been a long time customer until recently. The 1 star reviews are spot on. The place is both a money grab and unethical. Go elsewhere. I went in for an exam to get new glasses. The dr said I had "a mite infestation" under my lids (no symptoms). She quickly wrote a script for a $2000 eye drop that a special pharmacy filled and handled my insurance. I read the label and there are serious side effects. Doctors get a bonus for writing that script. I had two second opinions done within days and "no mites"; just allergy inflammation. The Dr insisted I see Dr. Poma to "finish" the eyeglass exam. The Dr didn't mention it was a vision therapy consultation for an extra $200. I have excellent insurance and it appears they were going to cash in it. -- I had to call four times to get my eyeglass script after I refused the vision therapy appt. - Additionally, The front desk help, Amanda and Rose are both unprofessional, pushy, and rude. read more

We've gone here for a while, and because we were receiving a lot of support for a unique medical issue for one of our children, we ignored the constant sales pitches and hurried rudeness. But after one of the doctors went out of her way to be unkind and make me cry in the office we're just done. It was like a high school satire movie mean girl rudeness! Started going there, at first all good. Doctor said my eyes were a little red and they had a new treatment for it. IPL with RF, new machine, I don't think they knew how to operate it! My eyes progressively got worse! Then a diagnosis of dry eye mieobian glad dysfunction, never had it before. Was in treatment for almost 2 years, the worst experience, my eyes were blood red. All their treatments/protocols made my eyes the worst they have ever been! After spending $2500.00 I finally requested a specialist. I was referred to Dr. Jen Shaba of the Dry Eye Institute in west Bloomfield. Finally I am getting the proper treatment and my eyes are looking so much better after just a week under her treatment!!! I took my son today for an eye exam and to make sure his proscription hasn't changed and to order glasses. We've been there about times and have seen Dr. Poma twice and Dr. Isaac- I can't say enough of how they have made the whole eye dr visits so easy for my son, from the testing to the eye glass purchasing right in the office. Joy at the eye glass counter is truly the most patient and sweetest. I will never go anywhere else and when my year 11 old "likes" going there, it make it even better. My experience with this place of business was positive with Dr Poma. That all changed when I decided to invest in their doing prescription glasses for me. From the minute that I put the glasses on I tried to explain that the prescription was too strong and I could not see out of the glasses. They actually gave me a headache within minutes of wearing them. After getting the runaround from several technicians and (including a doctor at the practice, whom I can't remember the name of now) I was frustrated and left the glasses and told them that they needed to fix them. Almost 2 years later this organization has not seen fit to deliver a pair of glasses that I can see out of. They are absolutely too strong. I paid more than $300 for the prescription lens and no one seems to care that I can't use them! I wish better for anyone else utilizing the services because somewhere there a technician screwed up Or doctor Poma wrote a bad prescription. Neverthless the company refuses to stand behind the customer, rather i've been forced to pay for something I cannot use. I've never seen a greater disregard for customer satisfaction. Be careful where you spend your money and the quality of technical skill. I've gotten much better service at far less expensive optical offices. read more

Great selection, but had a really negative experiences with staff :( I've worn glasses for 18 years and decided to try this place out. I found Lacoste frames I loveee and bought them, but had to come back 3 times because the frame was chipping, the lenses weren't cut properly, and a nose piece fell off. It was pretty frustrating and I definitely did not get the quality I paid for (I paid about $200). I arranged to meet with the manager Rose--she made me wait for 30min, was unwilling to give me even a small refund, and looked at my glasses and said "I don't see anything wrong with them" after I explained all the problems I've had. Not once did I hear "I'm sorry you're unhappy" or "I'm sorry I made you wait for 30min." She just made excuses about how she couldn't help me, and she and another store clerk named Stephanie made me feel like I was trying to con the store into getting my money back, even though I'm the one who got less than I paid for (at one point Stephanie even laughed and said "nice try" ?!?!). Also, a third woman who was fitting my frames said "you need to get your eyebrows done because it's making your whole face look uneven and I can't fit your glasses properly." Like, WHAT? I felt hugely disrespected and I don't know if it was because I'm young and they didn't view me as a customer who was worthy of their time, but the whole process was super frustrating and a huge waste of my time and energy. This place will take your money - just walk away. They pray on desperate parents trying to get help for their children who might be slow readers, or have other delays. They will make these great promises that makes a parent think they have found the solution but the doctor is mentally abusive and rude to children, her ego is almost as overpriced as the therapy she will keep pushing. She said my son needed $4000 in vision therapy, so of course I will get him what he needs. We did the exercises which were simple for him and with no progress with reading after his 40+ visits, every 8 visit we were told we had to have wan eval with the Dr. another $145. Then one day her ego was so large, she was so mean and abusive to him, a game to see who could win the argument or who was the boss. It was an awful experience. I just apologized to him as we walked out, no child should be treated like that from a professional. I still got the bill. When I called about it... I was told I received services and had to pay it. Then I knew, I totally fell for this vision therapy joke. Maybe it is a true thing for someone out there but seeing what my son did on a weekly basis was a joke and then his experiences with the Dr. .. heartbreaking. read more

I thought this place could be good and was I wrong. My brain injury that I substained made it very easy for them to take advantage of me and put me in lenses that are just all wrong. The ting is used for color blind people, the lenses are not even correct at all and not to mention am not getting a good use out of them because they are harder to wear because my eyes won't adjust to them. I spent money I did not have for something g they said they could offer and not even the case after seeing the top rated neuro Opthalmologist he could not find cause or reason why I had the lenses I had. It made no sense and there is not enough resource out there for BPI 550 lenses. Not ones that would work unless you are color blind. They move fast and make things sound all shiny and new like this would be good with out the resources to back it up. Oh and forget it if you think they will refund you or anything else for being dissatisfied because that will never happen. You just stuck if you go to this place and there are so many many other places to go. Also if you have a brain injury and a neuro Opthalmologist is the way to go to look at the brain and scans you have then someone looking at your eyes and suggesting all these things. Also found out I don't need bifocals which this place said I would need and I don't need readers either like this place said I would. Run as fast as you can away from this scam as place. Also I am glad to have the top rated doctors and I might of lost out on 185$ for lenses I will never be able to use, but it could of been far worse with vision therapy to start 400$ and then 130$ per visit and they try to make it seem so good but your brain is broken and they manage to trick your brain and you into thinking it's great and you get better slowly. That is because the brain is the slowest organ in the body to heal and vision therapy shows no proven facts to help. So good luck if you believe in this place. My family was a long time client of Birmingham Vision Care for many years, however, they have changed they practice and now charge patients $99 in fees not coveraged by insurance ($39 for Optomap and $60 for contact fitting). Additionally, they billed my insurance $204! Before you book your appointment - Watch out for these excess fees that they will hit you with when you check out! I called around and found that other Optometrists in the area do not charge these extra fees in addition to what they bill insruance for! Also, office manager is very rude. This practice is interested more in money than patient care. Dr. Pelton recommended we buy reading glasses for our 12 year old. When asked if we could just purchase inexpensive "cheaters" she dismissed that idea rapidly and escorted us to the optician to order frames and lenses costing more than $250. When I asked for a copy of the prescription, I was told the printer was down and they would mail it. Upon receiving the prescription, I noted that he had the same, very slight correction required in both eyes. I could have bought glasses online for $15 and not worried every day about his glasses being lost or damaged. I was quite dismayed by the lack of transparency at Birmingham Vision Care. read more

This office was horrible!! The doctor told me that I HAD to get these certain contacts that were 4x as expensive as any other contact lens I had used before. I then went to check out and it took over 30 minutes while they trained an elderly woman how to use the credit card machine while I waited. Then after charging me over $700 they have sent me 4 different bills for things that since the appointment are "no longer covered". It was a scam and the woman on the phone who talked to me was rude, disrespectful and a total bitch about the whole process. I am still receiving random bills from them for things I apparently "owe" them even though I haven't been to the office in over 6 months. I would NOT recommend them to anyone unless you are looking to blow a bunch of money on NOTHING. read more
