I love this place. I can't help it. I'm addicted to See. Since the review, I came back for my eye exam. The ophthalmologist who did the exam was really competent, laid back, and thorough. And it was pretty cheap, under $100 with scripts for both contacts and glasses. Though, the best part of See are the AWESOME and cheap frames. OK, get this, every single pair of glasses you pick up that is the TOTAL price. I mean WITH lenses. If you want lenses that aren't polycarb or you want anti-glare on them, that's a little bit more. The ladies who work there really know their products. And they helped my poor friend pick out some new glasses. All frames that he would have eventually pick out himself. Really helpful, wonderful, knowledgeable staff. They have some awesome sales and coupons, so if I were you, I'd sign up for those annoying emails to get in on the deals. My friend came in with a $100 off coupon and got his glasses with anti-glare for $220. I got a new pair with anti-glare that were 50% off for $200. $200! That's UNREAL! Why would you go to Lenscrafters? So you can have a Armani on the frames? These glasses are funky, like European cool, without their brand name stamped on the glasses. So... if you want to pay $400 for Armani frames and another $200 for lenses at Macy's or Lenscrafters... by all means. Do it. But you will find very similar frames, and even COOLER frame styles, for a fraction of the price at See. Note: Their store in the Somerset is really tiny without any selection. Come to the Birmingham store to really get a great selection. read more

We are so fortunate to have one of the best SEE locations here in B'ham. I have been to other locations (mainly in NYC) but have never felt as cared for or comfortable as I do here. I ordered glasses and refused to pick them up when they did not meet with my satisfaction. I asked the salesman to return the glasses and to credit my account. Now when I called to make sure I had my credit on record still they said NO. They said I forgot to pick up my glasses and they could not give me a credit because of the time lapse. They also said they have been calling me to remind me the glasses are there. Lol. That never happened. They act like they are desperate to rip me off for the cost of a pair of glasses. read more

Staff was very snooty - as a business owner myself, I'm really not sure why they're in a people business. My dad and I walked in at 5:30 - 30 minutes before See was supposed to close. While we got a friendly greeting, it became abundantly clear that the staff did not want to be working. They were unhelpful, and condescending. When I asked one woman "What do you think of these?" she glared up from her paperwork and said "They don't fit if that's what you're asking." It was just one of many backhanded comments - highly un-pro. They didn't help either of us find any pairs of glasses. The sad part is, we were ready to spend some money. What a great place! I bought glasses there 10 years ago and still remember them. That right there is impressive. I live in CA and when I saw that there was a Groupon for SEE I was stoked. I knew I was coming to MI soon so I thought I'd go to my good ole friend SEE in B'ham instead of SF. I walked in and Lisa and Billy greeted me with their gigantic smiles and welcoming vibe. I was told to walk around, find some glasses I liked while Billy would pick some out for me. I liked that Billy found about 10 glasses in different price ranges ie he wasn't trying to sell to make money, he really did just look for glasses that would work well on my face. I ended up choosing a pair he picked and was super happy. Due to the negligence of the SF store (long story) the Groupon was only to be used there but... B'ham got right down to business. They contacted SF, squared the business end of it quickly and with a smile. I am thankful for the expertise and attitude. Not every store would have handled themselves in this way. I'm gonna keep the five star streak going because this place deserves it. Not only do I like fresh donuts, but I also like fresh eyeglasses. This is the place to go if you want fresh and quality without breaking the bank. I was initially bummed out that they didn't take my insurance, but that really didn't matter after the numbers were crunched. Here's how: 1) Frame + polycarbonate lens = what's on price tag. Yup, no surprises when the cost of the lens is unveiled. Yes. 2) Although they didn't take my insurance (VSP), they still take a hefty percentage off the price tag or have some promo going on. Yes. 3) I sent the receipt to my insurance and filled out an online claim and got a check for going to an out-of-network eye doctor. Yes. All in all don't be scurred if this place doesn't accept your insurance. The price turns out to be the same if not less than other places (I even upgraded the lens one notch). The staff is full of energy and really good at picking the right frames for you. I picked a couple of pairs and they were so on point with their additional suggestions. I give SEE a rating of five donuts...I mean stars for a vast selection of stylish and well-made eyewear. read more

I usually get my glasses at LensCrafter. I thought I'd try See, not because I was displeased with LensCrafter but because I liked a few of the styles at See. Not a good plan! Though I had my eye exam at LensCrafter, I took my prescription to See. I purchased the glasses at the Sumerset location. Ended up going back for adjusting. Adjustment didn't last so I went to the Birmingham location for adjusting. I ended up going back for adjustments 3 more times totaling 5 times. Not worth the $ nor the aggravation. Going back to LensCrafter. Lesson learned. If it ain't broke don't fix it! read more

I recently acquired my first pair of corrective eyewear, a daunting procedure under any circumstances, and could not have done so without the courteous assistance and enthusiasm of the staff at SEE B'ham. Tamara and Jackie were a great help as well as Dr.Antenucci in assisting me with what turned out to be a considerably more drawn out process than initially expected. The patience and encouraging cooperation I experienced play a huge role in situations like this, and go far beyond the normal bounds of simple customer service. I've been wearing eyeglasses my entire life, well, since I was about five years old anyway, so I think I may know a thing or two about shopping for and wearing eyeglasses. I've gotten them from everywhere, from the major chain to small mom and pop places. So having said that, you would be wise to take it to heart when I say that SEE is pretty flippin' amazing. Here is the deal: All the frames are labeled with a price and this price includes polycarbonate lenses, no silly pricing schemes where one way or another you don't really know what the final bill will be until after you've gone through the trouble of getting an exam and picking out frames etc. This is how eyeglass retailers get you, most of them do their best to conceal the full price until the last minute where it seems like such a big hassle to say no that you just don't. I mean who wants to do invest a couple hours into getting glasses just to walk out empty handed? Right. About the only catches are they charge extra for exams and any extras you add to your glasses like coatings etc but that is to be expected. I have a specialist and get my eye exams covered by medical insurance and you can do the same if you are smart enough to pull it off. The really killer thing at SEE is the clearance rack. Get this, everything on the rack is 50% off and any coatings etc you get are also 50% off! That is pretty amazing, seriously. The frames are all the in house SEE brand, so if you care about having a designer name on your frames then I guess go elsewhere but the frames at SEE are all very hip, probably the most interesting overall selection I've seen. I had at least three different frames I was interested in and that is saying something. So, if you're in the market go see the manager Lisa and the gals at SEE in Birmingham, not only are the super friendly and helpful but they're also gorgeous, if that means anything! Tell them Dustin sent you. Oh, and by the way, you get a free glass case and lens cleaner with your glasses, many places will actually charge extra for this. I love freebies! Alison and Lisa are so wonderful!!! I came here to get a new pair of eyes about a month ago, and those two remembered me from 10 years ago, when I was a kid. Made me feel really special. Not to mention that everyone who works here (including my awesome friend Dana!!) are so down to earth and just overall genuine people. They do not treat you like just another name on a list. The selection of frames, and the wonderful staff, makes this THE place for me to come get new glasses. And with the Groupon/Yelp deals they always have, it's an absolute steal. They actually include the price of the lenses WITH the price of the frame, so there are no "hidden fees" and you're actually getting a quality pair of frames that won't break and lenses that won't peel (trust me, I still wear my 10 year old SEE frames on occasion). *Update 2* Visited the Seattle SEE store and everything was great, was able to get a new pair of glasses due to the faulty existing pair and had a very pleasant experience. Will remain a SEE customer, knowing that my one bad experience doesn't reflect the company as a whole. :) *Update* Spoke with corporate and they were incredibly nice and are currently helping me resolve the issue. Will update on progress. I don't recommend SEE eyeglasses. I just had the most abysmal customer experience period. First my glasses broke after two weeks, then they couldn't fix them w/o shipping them out and leaving me w/o glasses for weeks. Then I finally decided to buy a new pair after they offered to replace my broken pair. Then after and bought and paid for the new pair they called and told me I couldn't get the replacement pair after all. Then I got my new glasses with a flyer that if you have a broken pair you get 50% off so I called the store, left messages for the manager who never called me back. Also emailed and called corporate. Finally called back the store, got the manager who was incredibly rude and not helpful. Still waiting for corporate to answer me back. NOT WORTH IT and such a bummer because I used to love them. read more

Since my initial contact with See, I've been contacted on several occasions. They apologized for the poor treatment. They didn't try to make excuses, try to deny it or blame me for the incident. I appreciate that they were so stand-up about it. They went to great measures to make sure that I got the best eye care and in all my dealings with them since they have been beyond kind. Dr. Desi was thorough, informative, attentive and caring. All the assisting staff was helpful and pleasant as well. This place is the epitome of cool. Before buying my eyeglasses at SEE, I really did my homework. I went to 5 other stores (Pearle Vision, Lenscrafters, JCPenny Optical, OPTIK, and Shades) in search of the perfect set of frames. SEE was the only place that had the perfect combination of approachable staff, funky frames, and reasonable prices. Even though SEE didn't take my insurance, it was only about $40 more to buy my glasses here (on sale), and that was including the very premium scratch-resistant coating. I would highly recommend SEE to anyone who is looking to update their look. read more

I called on Monday. My insurance and payment questions were answered over the phone. I was able to get an appointment the following day. When I arrived, I was greeted by Tam, who was friendly and fun. The environment is styled and well lit. My wait time was less than 5 minutes. The optometrist was also friendly and proficient. Though I just needed a prescription for contact lenses, I could not help but be inspired by the cool selection of glasses. I will likely be going back in the not to distant future. They worked her in last minute working hard to facilitate our schedule. Her glasses looked great. Bought my first pair about 7 years ago. I have gotten new lenses several times with same SEE frames since they held up so well. Returned to Birmingham for new frames and worked with Nina. She picked out multiple frames for me to try on. Picked the perfect ones. Once arrived, they adjusted them, but they continued to slip down my nose. Had to return twice and this time I asked for Nina to take a look. Glad I did!! She adjusted them perfectly and changed the nose pads. No more slippage or discomfort behind my ears. She's the best! I've been a regular patron( at least twice a year) of SEE eyewear, Birmingham MI. for awhile and rightly so, they carry high quality, one-of-a-kind specs and when i wear them, i can't get enough compliments. My preferred sales associate is David because he is warm & friendly and most interested in you being a satisfied customer. I look forward to working with David when i come in because he is not trying to just make a sell but, he will be honest with me on what looks good on me and thats very important to me. Upon our first meeting, i was hooked. David was very attentive and quick to clue in on what styles i was interested in and he offered spot on suggestive ones to try. David is a joy. Fourteen months after I paid $600 for a pair of eyeglasses at See, an earpiece (temple) broke off. I was told "See doesn't do repairs." I was offered an extension of my one-year "warranty," which consisted of permitting me to buy another pair of glasses at half off. (See also refused to order a new temple so that a different store could reattach it for me.) BEWARE OF SEE! Don't assume that because you pay a premium price in an upscale neighborhood that the business cares about satisfying you when there is a problem. I've been going to the Birmingham SEE for years. It is conveniently located blocks from my office. Beyond the convenience of the location I enjoy the experience. The employees at SEE are young and trendy. They know me by first name even though I only come in once a year. I'm always greeted as if I'm a friend but still in a professional way. The staff is full of energy, charismatic and knowledgeable about products. The doctors are always very professional and put me right a ease (even though they are going to touch my eye with that thing!)! I just came from this year's visit to SEE in Birmingham and it was as good as every year. I considered going to a discount store but worried about quality of exam and glasses. I've been buying my glasses at SEE for five years now. The staff is the best and so is the optometrist. Everyone is so welcoming and helpful. Walking in always feels like coming home. I was moved to write a review when I saw a review someone wrote about the glasses looking like they won't hold up. I've been wearing glasses since I was four-years-old and need them every waking moment. I have multiple pairs of glasses and sunglasses from SEE and can attest not only to their great look, but also to the quality. I have never had a single complaint about any of my frames or lenses.
