I bought some amazing glasses - one arm fell off on a crusie - got home they put a new screw in. 2 days later the other arm fell off. I went back and they told me that they would replace the entire pair - they told me that it wasn't worth repairing them. I love these guys super helpful! read more

I'll pass on this place. I thought I try them again since they do have beautiful frames. I called an hour before I arrived. I was told no appointments are needed to the see frames. When I got there the place was crowded. ok, no problem. They couldn't have predicted that. Finally got to speak to a salesperson. She seemed a little frazzled, but it was hard to interpret her response since she was wearing a mask throughout the consultation. I asked about any discounts. She said in a snobby tone, "We don't offer discounts on our frames." After I mentioned we were paying cash, she all of sudden said we could get a discount for paying cash. Then I said well there signs throughout the store...something about 20 or 30% off. She said again, no discounts. I said but there are signs all around the store. She replied oh, that's a discount if you buy a second frame. Initially she said no discounts, but minutes later she acknowledges that there are two available if certain requirements are met. I tried to give this place a chance, but once again they have proven to be way too snobby and possibly prejudice for my taste. This experience made me consider getting eye surgery. I'm sick of getting crappy service, especially after the COVID shutdown. read more

The drs are nice. They aren't geared to kids, but the pediatric place in West Bloomfield that lots of people go to has like a 4 month wait. This place could get us in the same week and frankly they did fine with my little ones. The glasses we bought were the cheapo pairs from the case (because I knew my kids would break them) and they broke fairly quickly. With my son...eh that's sorta how it goes. But my daughter is extremely cautious and her pair broke too. Deducting one star because their response wasn't great. Essentially we needed to buy another pair. The cheapo ones are just various colors of the same frame, not a lot of choices. So I ended up going online with their prescription to get affordable frames. We'll go back for check ups but probably elsewhere for frames. read more

I have been going to Roland Optics for years. I had an appointment scheduled and had accidentally missed it. First time being back with my family in months it slipped my mind. When the lady called me she was so disrespectful to me on the phone. I understand their busy, and a lot of people need appointments, but there is no excuse to speaking down to a client telling me I'm impolite for missing my appointment. I can say I've been going to Roland Optics for over 20 years. I think the doctors are very good and extremely helpful. The sales people are also very nice and knowledgeable but I am done going to this establishment. I was so embarrassed as Shelly ( Manager) had a melt down and was in a rage towards the sales person that was helping me. Not only was I embarrassed but felt so awkward after her little tantrum. I thought maybe I had one of those full moon experiences but looking at other reviews it seems like Shelly needs some sort of retraining or perhaps a great vaca. read more

Just to preface my review the staff is very polite and knowledgable of all the eyewear. The business side is where all my issues stem from. I've been wearing contacts and glasses for the last 18 years of my life and in the middle of my exam I was told i will be charged an extra $75 from what they quoted because there was a miscommunication, which was understandable,still more expensive than LensCrafters, but I let it slide. After the exam I was given a nice hand written document with the contact brand, strength and cost for a 1 year supply which I thought was my prescription. I held on to it because I had a few months left of my old equivalent strength contacts. A few days ago I decided to order my contacts online because they were cheaper, free next day shipping and I didn't have to sit through traffic after work to get them. The next day I get a phone call from Roland Optics that I have to get a second check-up even though they would have let me purchase contacts after the first exam. They held my prescription hostage and wanted me to buy my contacts through them after my second exam. I've never had so much trouble and grief to get a hard copy of my own prescription. Every other optometrist gives it you with your receipt after your exam. read more

Roland Optics were a Client at a former company I used to work for and while there I had built a good relationship with the staff so when it came time for my wife and I to get our eyes checked and order new glasses, even though it was a decent hike away, naturally we went there. The staff, especially Stacy who works the front desk, are super helpful and friendly, always greeting you with a genuine smile. The doctors are just as friendly and helpful too. Price wise it is a little expensive, but pretty comparable to other places. They offer a wide range of options for both men and woman so you are sure to walk out with the right fit and look for you. One of the nice things is they are honest and do not try to up-sell you on anything. At other places I have been they try to pull the old "You absolutely need this, this and this..." game with you where at Roland they will only try to sell you what you actually need. It takes a lot of pressure off of the whole thing which is nice. While I would love to give them a perfect rating I can't. Reason being is I had to have my glasses remade three separate times over the span of a month before they were correct. If they weren't correct the third time around I would have requested a refund along with my prescription and gone elsewhere, but luckily for all parties involved they were good. The first time they got the base curve wrong and the second time the center was off. While they were more than happy to fix the issues it was still a bit frustrating that it wasn't done right the first time and that I had to keep making the long drive each time I had to go back. Even still, I'd recommend them to friends and family who live in that area for their eye-care and eye-wear needs. read more

After about a year of the same glasses, I decided to visit Roland before moving to NY. I found the doctor to be kind and gentle, and the sales person, Robyn, was also very helpful. I had a much better experience during this visit than previous times. I would definitely return when back in Michigan. Purchased an expensive pair of Lindberg frames. They fractured while being taken out of a shirt pocket. One year warranty with no exceptions per Roland. But Roland offered me the opportunity to buy another frame. What a deal! Buy two defective products so Roland can make twice the profit. Nice looking frames. I went to pick up glasses that I ordered a week ago. They did not have enough employees to fit the glasses and said it would be a long wait. They seemed to have plenty of staff, but not working. Too bad the owners or management was not on site. I walked out without my new glasses. Next time I will go somewhere where ownership seems to care more. read more

I've been going to Roland for years and every time I go I have a wonderful experience. The staff is very friendly, great selection of frames but my favorite are the doctors. I'm pretty sure they take most insurances (for sure they take VSP). All of them have been kind, knowledgeable and explain the changes in my eyes thoroughly. The technicians that take you through various eye tests are gentle, soft spoken and very nice- they explain thoroughly everything done. All the doctors are great. They make their patients comfortable explaining and retesting all parts of the exam. If you are getting glasses every person that helps with your choice gives you Honest opinions of how glasses look on you and if they can hold your prescription or not; there is the Best selection of frames to choose from. They also have people to help with contact fittings and to teach you how to use. At Roland they have created a great team to make your appointments go smoothly. I went once in 2013. Excellent experience, it's just quite a drive from Ann Arbor. Since then, i have received a bill for $250-$350 from them in 2015 and 2016. At first, I thought it was somehow a bill left over from 2013 so in 2015, I called and apologized and was ready to provide my debit card number to pay for the bill. I hate knowing I owe anything, so although i was shocked that there was a bill, I wanted to get it taken care of. Luckily, after I gave my card and they were going to process it, I made a comment about how I was shocked a service from 2013 would have a remaining bill for this long. They then said it was from a service from 2015. I told them I have not been there since 2013/ I had them investigate that and they said it was an error on their end and that they accidentally billed me. they said there are no other patients with the same name or date of birth... just "grabbed the wrong file". I got another bill in 2016 again. When i called, I was frustrated and wanted this to be taken care of, they did but I wanted an investigation and they said the same thing "grabbed the wrong file". Word of advice to anyone coming here ---- check your bill from them prior to paying. This is unacceptable for it to happen twice to me. First time, I let it go, the second time, I was irked. Makes me wonder how often it happens to others. would give one star but the second star is because the experience in 2013 was good. read more

I saw this store as I was going to Starbucks this afternoon. I thought I would call in to check the prices of single vision lenses for the multiple glasses that I have. I have over 10 pair that I need to get new lenses for ( I LOVE glasses) and my husband has 3-4 pair to be done also. I was very disappointed by Shelly, the person who took my call. She comes on and asks how she can help. I am a polite person so I say "hello, how are you doing today." Shelly responds very dryly "Good, now how can i help you." Wow! This is the phone etiquette that this staff uses. When I tell her what I want, that I need most likely about 13 pair of lenses, her tune changed a little. I have money to spend and I will absolutely NOT be doing business with a company with rude people who can't even PRETEND to be nice on the phone. Just thought I would advise the treatment that is being given out. read more

I originally picked this place because they are one of the rare offices that have the glasses I was interested in and took my insurance, but the more I work with them the less likely I am to return. Customer service is horrible with the exception of Sarah! She is thee Best! The only reason I'd consider them is because she's great at what she does. The others are very pushy. They are weird about giving you your prescription! They give you a lecture and just a hard time as if you didn't pay for these things! My doctor rushed my service after having to wait 40 min for him to enter the room. Actually, every time I've been there, I've had to wait 30-40 minutes just to get seen. Then I found it insulting that he insinuated I preferred my usual contact lenses to ones he referred because I didn't have the money. Excuse me!? I chose not to "take his word" when I realized how snotty and money hungry this place is. Besides I have never heard of this brand her was promoting and since these are my eyes and the only ones I have I chose to stick with what I know. Unless you're uptight like these people, save yourself the headache. read more

I went into Roland Optical today, and it was the worst experience ever. Shelly was my salesperson and she was extremely rude and condescending. She practically told me I was crazy and didn't know what I was talking about when I asked her about a Shamir lens. This lady has no clue about anything to do with lenses. I would NEVER return to this store. Do yourself a favor and go to Berkley eyewear and talk to Lisa, she's really down to earth and will give you a much better deal and superior service. read more

While I was out of town in Florida I ran out of contacts and needed a prescription sent to my fax because I had run out and needed them asap. I was told that I would receive my prescription via fax in the next few minutes and never received it. Smh. Not the only problem I've had. I've been going to Roland Optics and sending friends and family there for close to 30 years because they have the best selection of eyeglass frames and the most helpful and friendly staff. I'm very much into eyeglass fashion, so it's important for me to feel like I've seen all the possibilities before I make my selection and I wouldn't be there unless they were willing to take as much time as I need. I usually work with Robin, who understands my style and is lots of fun, but I've also dealt with other staff members who have always been friendly and helpful. I should also mention that I've never had a problem with the eye exams. Roland has lots of expensive, beautiful frames, but if you don't want to spend a lot of money they can work within a budget. My husband, who asks to see only the frames that insurance will cover, has never gotten any pushback or effort to upsell. As a handicapped person, I always like to comment on any obstacles I encountered and there were none, including the restroom. read more

They had one pair which looked well but he wanted a choice. She not only offered to order several frames in his size without any obligation, she actually did so. I was looking for new eyeglasses, specifically a round or squarish pair. I then learned about Oliver Peoples and Garrett Leight eyeglasses, which is how I found Roland Optics since they carried these brands. I sat with Allison Horowitz and she was awesome! She was not only very patient with me (as I could be a bit indecisive haha), but also very kind and showed great care. My only complaint would be that I was enrolled in text messaging that would text when my eyeglasses arrived, however, my glasses had apparently been delivered and I never received a call or text message or any communication. I called the store and asked if there were any updates with my order and the woman on the phone informed me that my eyeglasses were actually delivered three days ago. I wish someone would've called me or texted me or something. Nevertheless, I had a pleasant overall experience. Glasses are a bit pricier here because of the brands themselves, but so far my glasses have been very good quality! If you're visiting, I recommend you meet with Allison Horowitz - you'd be in great hands! read more

I know that they have expensive frames, but they had two cases full of the frames that VSP will pay for. I got a nice frame from one of the two cases that has large lenses in purple faux wood, they also had two frames in blue faux wood. Jennifer, was incredibly helpful! She made sure we had a blue blocker to protect our eyes! They gave us a prescription for bifocals that would work with a specific distance to a computer screen and close up! WooHoo! read more

I have been going to Roland Optics for the past 10 years for not only eye exams, but I have purchased OVER 30 pairs of frames with progressive lenses from them. I purchase on average 2 pairs a year. In addition, I have referred many people to them who have purchased glasses. However, I will no longer go to Roland Optics or refer anyone to them after an incident a couple of weeks ago. My sister purchased a pair of prescription sunglasses from them for over $1000 and within 3 weeks one of my dogs ate them. I took the torn up glasses back to Roland and asked if there was any break my sister could have on purchasing a new pair since she just bought these less than a month ago. They would not give any break, and said they would charge the same $1026 again. I could not believe that after thousands and thousands of dollars I spent at this establishment, this is the customer service I received. I will never go back, and this past week found a wonderful eyeglass place, with great customer service and the prices on the same glasses over 30% less! My advice, don't bother with Roland Optics! read more

This place only gets one star by default. They don't deserve any. Rude staff!!!! I am currently due for new glasses and went here today to browse and see if they had anything I liked before scheduling an appointment. The rude witch at the front desk looked at me as if I personally asked her to show me every frame in stock!!!! When spending my money there should be no problems with me wanting to walk around and see what's offered. Needless to say my appointment for an exam and new glasses is across the street to a different business where I was greeted with a friendly welcome and encouraged to try on whatever I wanted before my appointment was wveb scheduled.
