Back here in Southeast MI., getting quality work at a reasonable price seems elusive and not hassle-free. Based on other reviews, I would certainly consider a 25 mile drive to Novi for a quote.

I used to see an ophthalmologist in Birmingham, but our insurance doesn't cover it and it's a little bit far of a drive now for me anyways. I have a condition where my eyes are cone-shaped; because of that, Visionworks recommended me going to a specialist. If I constantly have to go to this place and the specialist, I probably will not go to this place, but we'll see. I thought the eye exam was thorough and well done. Our insurance covers $300 for frames so I ordered some new glasses, my current ones are probably five years old or older so I definitely need a new pair. I was already in the area so I arrived for my appointment a bit early. My husband arrived five or 10 minutes late one time and they turned him away so be aware that they are pretty punctual. My guess is because I think they just have the one doctor for eye exams. They had a nice selection of glasses as well, if you're looking to get new glasses. I would return to this location, but I will admit I missed my old ophthalmologist and the nice waiting room, etc.

But just today I had the worst customer service experience I've ever had from a health care provider. Apparently, this branch of Visionworks has undergone a total personnel turnover. The previous office staff used to be extremely helpful and the former optometrist there, Dr. Lavine was the most thorough diagnostician I've encountered in almost 60 years of wearing glasses. I made an appointment with the new doctor but left before seeing her because the current office staff is not only incompetent, they are cavalier about customer service. If they aren't interested in making things convenient and pleasant for a repeat customer, I will take my business elsewhere.

I have referred several individuals to the Galper Eye Center. In addition, Bruce Meyers provides information about all the services they perform. Any time you wait to resolve billing issues after 6 months, it becomes very difficult to work with insurance companies and I'm sure they knew that... so they gave themselves 1 month to figure this out. Whatever they asked for (pre-authorization from my wife's PCP) we gave them but they still had an issue because apparently they didn't get what they needed. After I called to try and resolve this matter (and their mistake on extending this timeline so long), whoever I spoke to was super rude and condescending as if I was in the wrong.. "Well did you call back to make sure we received the referral?!" No I didn't, I don't work for you. If they had an issue, don't wait 5 months before saying something. I don't recommend anyone coming here. Super expensive anyways and they have horrible customer service... any other company would admit fault and write off the (less than) $200 fees they were trying to collect. Their doctors are fine, can't really say anything bad about the care. But then if you need contacts or glasses just be ready to pay $$$$ or go elsewhere anyways.

LensCrafters offers all the same glasses and more any way you want to have them made. It's not even worth going to see their choices because LensCrafters has more to look at. They just must sell more glasses than even the Oakley store. But if you want to be extra cool and be seen buying your glasses in the Oakley store that's definitely the place for you.

The next appointment I could get at Livonia office would be in two weeks. I contacted the Novi office and was able to get in that Wednesday. During the appointment, I requested that my glasses be rushed and I was willing to pay extra. I was told it was not necessary because my glasses would be in within one week. My husband had an appointment in Livonia on Friday. He recieved his glasses within one week. I am still waiting for a "rush" job now over two weeks. I keep being told "oh they have been shipped and I will get a call mostly likely tonight" for the last 5 days. I will go back to Henry Ford Optimeyes in the future. Update: As of Monday, day. #19. I had not recieved my glasses. I have since cancelled the order.
