We recently bought a bird from unlimited, we felt like the staff was intimidating and think their way is the only way to do things. we had visited our bird multiple time and his flight feather were partially clipped so that he could still flutter and then when we picked him up to come home they took him in the back and clipped the rest of his flight feathers without asking us. the staff follows you around the store while shopping as if your going to steal something. I 100% recommend going up the street to Exotic Pet Birds. read more

So many birds,toys,food and much much more. The workers where very helpful and explained everything to us about what our bird would need. Lovers of birds should flock right to this store! Wanted something fun and unusual for me and my girlfriend to check out. She is a HUGE bird lover, and I have worked with (and owned) my fair share of birds. A pet store just for birds seemed to be the place to go! Heads up, if you use a Garmin it may say the store is on the incorrect side of the road. It is back a bit from the road it is on, and the sign is far back enough to be easy to miss. Once inside we were immediately greeted by very friendly staff. They were super eager to help! We decided to browse around a bit of course. They have a lot of really fun looking bird toys, along with supplies, enclosures, dishes, books, posters, etc. All the cool stuff made me want a bird just to spoil it! They have some neat display birds... loved the crows (I am a big corvid lover). Along with the display birds, of course, they had a variety of birds on sale. Macaws, conures, cockatiels, parakeets, canaries, and other oddball birds waited in clean enclosures along the walls. The birds appeared healthy, well fed, and happy. One of the staff brought out a conure for us to spend a little time with and she seemed very healthy and well behaved (for a baby). One of the cockatiels was SO sweet and seemed to want to come out to visit... but they were all sold. Good thing, as I couldn't have a bird right now anyway! They apparently sell out of them fast. They had signs posted for grooming (I'm guessing nail, beak, and feather trims) as well as bird boarding. One downside, (and a warning for those with small bladders or delicate digestive systems) they do not have a public restroom. Luckily there is a gas station very close by. They do have a website where they list available birds and it IS kept very up to date. Always appreciated. I really enjoyed this little specialty shop. Wow! This place is amazing. Made the drive from Buffalo to buy a bird we found online. Store was closed because of covid-19 but opened for pick up. Very knowledgeable employee let just my family into the store to pick up our new bird and supplies. All which are reasonably priced. The store is beautiful, I'm happy to find out they reopened to everyone just this week. Our bird is amazing! Hand feed as a baby by this store made him just the sweetest thing. The selection of bird toys here is also amazing. Now that the store has reopened we will be stopping in. Can't wait to explore and see all the birds! read more

I lived in Ithaca nearly two years before I was able to visit Birds Unlimited (the two hour drive from Ithaca wasn't justifiable to my husband). Fortunately, I was finally able to visit and investigate the premises. The birds all live in clean cages, though most aren't suitable in size for the birds they house (there were two cockatoos in a cage suitable for a conure). Birds Unltd. stocks a sizable amount of Roudybush pellets and has a wall full of toys. They also sell cages, playstands, books, and a variety of other items. A few months after my first visit, my SO surprised me with a Cinnamon Green Cheek conure baby from the store. My personal preference is to rescue abandoned or abused parrots, so finding a baby from a specialty store wasn't the most pleasant surprise, but we made do. Although Miso came with a free visit to a vet in Rochester, we took her to see my avian vet in Ithaca and Miso was pronounced healthy with clean gram stain and clear bloodwork. She's a gorgeous, healthy baby, but extremely hand-shy, fearful, and untame. After she went through quarantine, we introduced her to her new best friend, GCC Bonzai!, and they've been cage mates ever since. Miso is great with Bonzai!, but completely fearful of humans. I wouldn't have been pleased had she been given to me as MY pet; when I told my SO I'd hope to find a friend for Bonzai! one day, that is precisely what I had in mind, and Miso is a great companion for her - just not for me, and I'm afraid that a different owner may not have been very happy had they brought Miso home =\ read more

I visited Birds Unlimited in August to pick out my first parrot. We were impressed with the knowledge of birds imparted by the staff, especially Paul, the proprietor. He's lived and breathed birds for decades, even so far as to have been the president of the local bird club. The staff helped us pick out a hybrid conure (Green Cheeks and something else) who has proven to be healthy, mostly-family-friendly and very affectionate. The store was clean, and the birds cages especially so. It has a number of cages, lots of foods, and a plethora of toys to choose from. We were able to purchase literally everything we needed to be first-time parrot parents. As an added bonus, Paul offers three, free groomings (by appointment) a year for birds purchased at his store, and they include flight feather, nail, and beak maintenance. Paul and company offer post-sale support for bird n00bs like us - we're welcome to call with any questions and/or concerns as they come up. Birds Unlimited is by the far the best bird store not only in Rochester but probably in the United States. My father, a parrot owner, was a loyal customer for years and when we decided to add a bird to our family it was the only place I considered going. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about birds. We weren't sure what type of bird we want and they answered all our questions. They helped us find the perfect Dusky Conure. She was hand raised and in perfect health. Paul the owner didn't even let her come home until she was weaned and socialized. He gave us a certificate for a free vet visit, free food, and is going to provide lifetime nail and wing clipping (saving us thousands of $).
