I love this little course. It's has a good clean look and feel. The staff has always been nice and helpful. They have great food and a nice full bar. The course is always green and in good condition. They have been doing work on this course for a bit but they are finishing it up and I like the flow. It is a very short course there are many holes 100 yard or around it. Played today, Sept 3rd. All I can say is HALLELUJAH!! They FINALLY fixed the sand traps!!! They have all new soft sand!! Thank you a million times over. Made my day/round so much more enjoyable....considering I landed in 5 bunkers . Because of the grade-A sand, i got out of very bunker, first try, and I even made a sand-save. Birch Hills is trying their best to fix the green problems (excessive divots) but still a major problem...you can't blame them, though as they get a ton of newbies that play here. FIX YOUR DIVOTS PEOPLE!!! IT TAKES 4 SECONDS!! Anyway, thank you Birch Hills for listening to your customers. read more

We played on the 4th of July. As we were about to complete our round approaching the 18th hole, we were told by a worker that they were closing early. Pretty upset as we were not notified of the early closing prior to playing that day. We've played at Birch many times and have been repeat customers, so experiencing this was very disappointing. One of the workers did offer to refund us for the last hole for closing early which was nice, but overall we were really disappointed as we couldn't finish our round. The condition of the course has deteriorated. Some tee boxes do not have any grass and the ground is too hard to put your tee in the ground. Went ahead and emailed Nellie the general manager about our terrible experience and of course she did not respond. These people have no sort of respect or empathy. 0/10 would NOT recommend. This is a nice course for general players or just an easy practice day if you're more advanced. The pars are 3 and 4s. I play there almost once a week. This isn't a challenging course for advanced golfers. Yes, there is sometimes a wait at each hole on busy days because there are clubs there and players who don't know golf etiquette but if you expect it then you don't get too aggravated. I hear the food is decent there (I've only had a hot dog and it was very good). They also have a "rewards" club you can join which saves you a bit on the fees, and when you get enough points you can earn a free play. They are also associated with the Brea Golf Course (only a 9-holer) so if you join the rewards club I believe you get a discount for being member there too. No complaints about Birch Hills. read more

This review is for the driving range. The range itself is decent and the prices are ok but the balls absolutely suck. They are old, wet and sometimes caked with dirt. They need to seriously throw away 3/4 of the balls in rotation. The only reason I come here is because it's the boy 5 minutes from my house. read more

My POV today is from the grill side of the house. I was driving by this afternoon and felt like a hot dog for lunch. Ordered a bacon wrapped dog with all the goodies. Apparently the top shelf dog consisted of a pretzel bun, salty over cooked dog, same with the bacon, packets of basic condiments and a tall Stella Artois. The highlight of my lunch was the homemade crinkle chips. All this for only $14. Come on....... I don't mind paying for good food but this was surprisingly sub -par PS....... when will you finish what I think should be a putting green???) read more

This used to be my favorite course but due to different policy of the front desk, we stop playing here. We used to play at least once a week but every time we go is a risk if they will give us a cart. i feel like you need to beg for the cart that you paid for. They will have 2 players using the same cart even if you don't belong to the same household. For the price that you paid for, go somewhere else that will give you individual cart without any questions. read more

Great 18 holes. They have a very unique course layout. Greens are decent. Bunkers are pretty consistent (loose / slightly firm wet sand). Many short and long Par 3's with some Par 4's scattered throughout. Perfect for anyone tired of the traditional course layouts. I will definitely be back soon! read more

This place is awesome! From friendly and personable staff members like Christina who is every where and remembers what you like to order to the starter Don who is awesome and can remember the stories of your last round. Staff members like them make it pleasurable to play here with my family and friends. We play 1-2 times a week here and are all rewards members . I have read some reviews of long wait times on the weekends. This has not been our experience. We play every Sunday for the past Two months and Two times a month on Saturdays. Our rounds usually take 2-3 hours. The food is awesome, everything we have tried here is very tasty especially their burgers. Great place for beginners or advanced players who want to work on their irons and putting. We will continue to play here and bring our family and friends. read more

Carianne and Peggy provided excellent service, and the kitchen staff served-up DELICIOUS burgers! We had a group of us get together to celebrate a friend's retirement and birthday. Such a fun and organized course! Not much shade at the driving range but there are lots of chairs and enough stalls. Also, during COVID, the outdoor tables and bar are open. I love this little course. Great place to enjoy golf with the wife and family. Good and helpful staff. If we could just get the lazy a$$ golfers to act appropriately using normal golf course manners. One of the worst golf website I have ever experienced. Basic information like missing: What are the green fees? Is a cart included? What does a cart cost if not included? Is there a Senior rate? Is there a Twilight rate? If there is a twilight rate what time does it start. My friend is a BREA REWARDS member. He tried to make tee times last week and the person on the telephone kept referring to a past membership program and would not let him book the tee times. read more

Well, for $22 walking you can't beat it! Staff is friendly, marshal got the group ahead of us to move a bit quicker and we finished 18 holes in about 3-1/4 hours. New cart paths are a welcome addition. Greens are pretty chewed up, there are muddy spots on the fairways, and the tee boxes have bare spots. Grounds staff was working on the bunker and sand was actually pretty soft. Very small lip on the bunkers and it is possible to putt out of some of them. Restrooms are clean. Haven't tried the snack bar. Maybe next time. read more

Birch Hills Golf Course is a decent little executive course. I can say this, even after donating 5 balls to the massive lake on the back nine. It's good for kids, but expect to be under the watchful eye of the marshal if you do have a youngster with you. The course was not in very good shape. Divot marks were all over the place. I would have expected to find the course in better condition for how much the round cost. The cart cost was also pretty steep. I would go back to golf with relatives in OC, but I probably won't be making the 2 hour drive just to golf at Birch Hills. read more

Absolutely love this course! I actually drive 30 miles round trip to play it. Staff and course atmosphere is extremely comfortable with all level of golfers playing here. That said there are a few issues that need to be listed for those reading reviews for the purpose of knowing what to expect. As of this review, 70% of bunkers are unplayable do to zero to little sand. Fairways have some areas of dry hard pan and others that are over watered. Area around many greens (fringe) needs maintenance, dry grass and dirt areas, many under repair. Greens - turf health is actually good, however ball marks, divots are probably the worst I've seen on any golf course. I can't blame the course as its seem to be a phenomenon here and I know they're trying to address it. How do you have that many players with the skill to "hit the green" with the force and accuracy to make a ball mark and not have the simplest golf etiquette to repair the divot? Crazy thing is it seems to be getting worse! read more
