A couple of friends of mine took me and my wife to this restaurant for a Sunday Brunch where I had clams & chips. A huge plate of them arrived at our table and the clams were consumed, they were super. I will return this weekend for more of the same. Most things onthe menu are fried, and I'm trying to avoid fried foods. But as someone else mentioned, there are not a lot of options in this small town. we had the Senior's turkey dinner -- peas out of a can, and they wouldn't give me a small salad instead of potatoes. dressing and gravy. We were starving and this was the first place we saw that was actually open. I saw all the reviews and figured it was going to be amazing! We walked and there was no greeting, we didn't know what to do. After a minute or two of just standing there they got up from eating and told us we could seat ourselves. We wanted seafood so we got the lobster rolls, which were $14 each. They brought them out and it was like a regular hot dog bun grilled with chewy lobster, miracle whip (not even good mayo), lettuce and something else crunchy. It was terrible and super disappointing. I took probably 2 bites and wished We would've just held off until we arrived to our destination and not wasted $28 for our 2 lobster rolls. My recommendation is to only get desserts if you do go, they look great but we didn't get to try them. Sorry I didn't get a picture of anything. I was just ready to leave. read more

Travelling with friends in Deer Island and heading back to New River Beach for the evening. This place came highly recommended, so we were really looking forward to it. We ordered after our friends. Their meal came in 15 minutes, ours took over 45 minutes. By this time our friends had finished their meal. We were told there was an "issue" with our take out order, they didn't have any forks. I explained we had waited over 45 minutes and they offered "sorry". Not having any utensils (well, they offered a plastic spoon!) we headed back to the campsite. Cold, soggy fish, cold, soggy fries. Very disappointing meal. Our friends said their fries and fish were soggy, but not hot when they got it. Bland and unsatisfying. Wish we didn't automatically tip when we paid for the meal, the service and food were poor. read more

We arrived on a very busy Sunday evening in the summer. The back deck outside was full. The wait staff was harried but congenial. The food arrived hot and fresh. Her clams and my scallops were tender and delicious, not over cooked like is so easy to do with both. This feels like the kind of place that wears well over time. The easy going, casual atmosphere would be comfortable time after time. Our only suggestion is maybe put that delicious homemade tartar sauce in a small plastic cup instead of those annoying paper ones. We'll be back. I am wishing for more scallops today. read more

We were right outside and could hear everything... waited 40 minutes before she called us and said it would be 10 minutes but she would try to "rush it." 15 minutes later we came back and she once again told us it would be a long time. Then we heard her say we seemed upset... no dip Sherlock we were starving and in a rush?!? Then after watching multiple people who ordered after us walk past and get their food, some of whom literally apologize and said they felt bad for us, she called us over again to say she rushed the wrong order "oops" and told the people that were being served before us she felt bad for the "two girls" that had been waiting. It was me and my brother and he was offended, lol I thought it was funny though. Finally got our food like 1hr and 40min after ordering, our dad was in the car and very mad. So I've ordered from here a few times. First time they forgot items in my order and when I called back they told me they were closed and that they couldn't supply the items. I asked to speak with the manager and overhead them badmouthing me and they then came back on the phone and offered me a laughable $3 discount on my next order. On my next visit I tried to make an order 1/2 before they closed and was told that "the grill is off. no more orders" after planning on this for a group dinner as per the advertised hours AND I also called ahead to confirm! This place is great. In the summer of 2012, we were a multi-family bike trip making our way across New Brunswick. That day, I was driving the support van. After checking out some of the restaurants in the 'town' of St George, I called Birch Grove, and they quickly agreed to make room for our party of 16 very hungry, sweaty riders. Lobster rolls, fried seafood, blueberry milkshakes were all spectacular. Setting was a clean, bright, family restaurant, with attentive and accommodating waitstaff. Food was great, quickly and expertly delivered, and staff was terrific. Not haute cuisine, but, would highly recommend for a welcoming delicious family meal. read more

The fish and chips here are great. The fish was fresh and cooked well. The fries were good, nothing special but the fish is really the star of the dish in fish and chips anyway. We also had the blueberry pie because it was in season and it was very good. It's definitely worth tasting. Wild blueberry pie is so different (and better in my opinion) then traditional blueberry pie. It's definitely worth ordering. The pieces of pie are on the larger side and can definitely be split. If you want good food, go here. If you want good service go elsewhere. They have 3 waitresses and had to wait 20 minutes to get my drink. There were only two other people in the restaurant and the waitresses weren't with them either. There is incredibly long wait time, not due to the chef, but the wait staff. They stand behind the counter and talk. The younger wait staff is fine. On one occasion, our waitress didn't even clean off our table, it was a younger blonde haired girl,that saw we were waiting for a long time and cleaned our plates. She then told our waitress that we wanted dessert, but she was in no hurry to do her job, instead proceeded to finish telling her story to another older waitress which ultimately took 10 minutes. First time trying this spot and it was incredible in taste. But the service was not the best! It was very very busy and it only seemed to be two girls working (stressful!) and the younger looking of the two was so rude!! My waitress, a nice older lady had mentioned "hey two tables on the patio have not been served yet" and the younger lady replied with snark "and they I'll have to wait longer" and I along with everyone else understood! I have ONLY eaten there twice but I have relatives living in nearby St. John and they regularly drive down for no other reason than to eat here. Both meals were excellent, no funny business, no false facade, just good quality fresh home made good at reasonable prices. My wife had haddock and shrimp, I had haddock and scallops. We both had the raspberry cream pie, perfection. After you read this wait five seconds while I put on my sunglasses and look into the flashing light. :) read more
