One of their ads caught my attention on FB, so I called to clarify the process, to minimize surprises. Whoever answered the "new patient" line was friendly and knowledgable, causing me to feel comfortable enough to come in for the first time. Luckily there were quite a few appt. times available, so I booked this past Wednesday to come in in the early afternoon. The location is super convenient for me, and they have a big parking lot. It is always packed when I've visited, but I never had an issue finding spots. There were a lot of people when I got there which made me feel a little less nervous. Most of them were pretty young, even the people working the place including the nurses and the people who stick you. The front desk ladies on Wednesday were pretty on point. They explained the first steps and answered all my questions. Most of them were welcoming. MOST. I waited a little bit to get my identity verified and to take the 30min questionnaire (re: health history, privacy, etc.) I had quite a few clarifying questions about the questionnaire, but the nurse answered all of them. The physical was non-intrusive and explained up front. I was assigned a donation section, and a very nice lady did an excellent job sticking me painlessly. I was pretty surprised because the nurse had said it was a pretty big needle. I wish they told you up front you're going to have to "pump" your fist while the machine takes your blood because my nails were killing me when I did so. I asked for something to squeeze (since I saw a lady with a stress ball), and they gave me wadded up, latex gloves that were better than nothing, but got pulverized real quick. Once hooked up, I thought all was smooth sailing, and then the machine started beeping and went off after only a couple minutes. Apparently the blood was having a tough time going back into my body, so they wanted to switch arms. I told them that the nurse earlier said the veins on my other arm were not ideal, so I didn't know if that would even work. They said, "Let's try any way". We switch arms, and the machine kept beeping and shutting off every couple minutes. I noticed my arm starting to bubble, and they told me I was developing a hematoma and had to stop the process. Three days later, my arm is still pretty dang bruised, but they told me how to treat it. I asked if it was anything I could have helped, and they said no, not really, except to be super hydrated. I was? I was there for over three hours my first day, but I only stayed on the machine a fraction of the time. We did not get close to finishing, and they couldn't return all my blood. I asked if I should even try to come back, and they said they recommend coming back at least a second time since they throw away everything I had just donated because they have to test the first donation to my second. Today is Saturday (three days after the first appt.) I called the "current patient" line over 4 hours before my appt. today to see if I should still come in since my arm is bruised still. No one picked up, and I left a voicemail. No one ever returned my call. I drove there 30mins before my appt. time to ask in person. Brittni at the front desk was completely opposite of the Wednesday staff that I was brightly greeted by. I say hello, and she just looks back down and says in a monotone, "What's your appt. time?" She looked like she was put out by being there. I tell her when it is, then that I'm not sure if I should donate and showed her my arm. She said if it was still sore, then probably not. I told her I had called hours before about this, but she didn't blink an eye. She said I could go talk to the nurse "if u want". I talk to the nurse who had the same sort of apathetic attitude as Ms. Brittni over here. He said my bruising wouldn't go away for at least a few more days and to keep putting hot compresses on it. I go back up front to tell Brittni I need to cancel, and she says again like a monotone parrot, "What's your appt. time?" even though I just spoke to this chick 2 minutes ago. Sheesh. And it wasn't nearly as busy as it was Wednesday. I tell her again and that the nurse told me I couldn't donate. "Can you please cancel my appt.?" She says, "Eh, it doesn't really matter." I say, "Okay, thanks." She says nothing. Man, Brittni sucks as a front desk person. I've been told I have small veins by RedCross, so I think my experience was a one-off. It seemed like everyone else was having a much smoother time of it. Wednesday staff was much better than Saturday staff it seemed. They didn't seem to give a sh*t. So, if you got big ol' veins, I think it could be worth your time. It's key to bring your own stress ball and your own entertainment (for waiting around and especially for when they're drawing blood). I would avoid plug-in headphones in case they drape the blood tubes over you like they had to do with me (when they switched arms) since they kept getting all entangled every time my machine stopped. read more

LONG wait times. LONG. Regularly takes 3 hours for a donation. 45 minutes of actually being in the chair. The rest is waiting for the two intake personnel to get through the long line of people waiting, then waiting in a long line to be placed in a chair, then waiting for someone to actually notice you and hook you up to you can donate then get on with your life. They seriously are understaffed here. It really makes the pay (still better than Grifols Plasma) not worth it. Note: Everyone here is well trained, there just aren't nearly enough of them. read more

I have been donating plasma for a couple months, and without fail, I feel like cattle led through a chute when I'm done. The front staff has no customer service skills or manners. They are quick to shout out orders, and seem to talk down to me every appointment I have. I hear the staff complain that they want to go home, and it shows. Several of the phlebotomists were circling around me like vultures when my donation was almost complete. Not even 10 seconds after the machine completed its process, they were already starting to yank the needle out of my arm. They had the nerve to just say "You're done, see ya." I am questioning if it's even worth it to return again. I thought I was doing the company a favor by donating, but I am treated like just some jerk that made them stay later than they wanted to be there. Hey, BioLife...start appreciating your donors, or they won't come back anymore. read more

I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! They are discriminating against people with tattoos saying they are too close to the needle insertion site. Basically they are not skilled enough to get a vein on one arm so they need 2 places to try and try and try cuz they are so bad at finding veins they can't see through a tattoo. Listen, if your whole job is to poke people and take blood/ plasma, you should know how to do it and not turn away people with perfectly good plasma because you aren't skilled enough to get a vein. And if a tattoo from 10 years ago makes you scared, you shouldn't be working there. They are not busy there for a reason. They are not worth your drive there. I was really impressed with the staff. There are a lot of young (20's) staff members but they were all very knowledgeable and helpful. Matt was my nurse and he did a great job explaining everything to me. It was my first donation and I got a little lightheaded, they wasted no time to attend to me. Update from my previous review: this establishment falsely diagnosed me with syphilis, I immediately got tested after they told me I had tested positive for it and found that I was negative for syphilis. After reading reviews, this seems to be somewhat common for them, one instance I read they had misdiagnosed someone with HIV. Would highly suggest staying away from this place. read more

Good service. Long waits. Though they seem to overbook themselves and frequently have to send long lines of people who have waited multiple hours home because they run out of time. At I my time at BioLife I have seen many things, most of which are far from satisfactory. To start, the wait times for a bed are upwards of an hour and a half in a consistent basis, due to under staffing and over booking. The management is also terrible, at least according to the center employees I've talked to. The compensation might be considered worth it in the first month, but after that time I would stay away from BioLife. read more

I came after work at 620, I don't have time to wait 2.5 hours just for a bed. The location is nice and clean and beautiful. I wish they would have let me donate EVER. First time I went in I was like 10 days shy of being 6 months after birth so I waited for an hour and went through an hour of surveys and tests to be told to go home. Second time I waited another hour and a half because they were understaffed. Then they told me I couldn't donate because it had been too long since I ate(I ate eight before I came but since it took forever THEN they said it was too long) Third time I waited another 45 minutes and they said my pulse was too high. She said to wait 5 minutes and take deep breaths. She then came and got me after like a minute and took it again and deferred me again because it was too high. She used the smaller cuff(I have bigger arms) when they used bigger cuffs before and I asked if that makes a difference. She said yes but the small one should fit too, didn't even try the bigger one, and sent me on my way. So either that's a sign that maybe I would die donating plasma or they really just don't want me? I drove 25 minutes to get there each time for them to make me wait and then send me on my way. I also asked the nurse why the line is always out the door when they do appointments and she said because they book based on beds and not staff available to do the donations and that the upper management is never there and doesn't care. The staff today had zero common sense and no empathy. The blood pressure cuff noted a pulse of 174, which would have put me on the floor dying. It was an obvious erroneous measurement. I checked myself immediately after and got 84 BPM. The manager on duty deferred me for the day and said the cuff worked for everyone else. She was absolutely awful. I stopped going to BioLife a year or two ago, I went often to the American fork location but just like everyone else it seems even from other locations this is happening!!! I finally had enough with the poor management. I wasn't going to stand in 2-3 hour lines just to start my donation. It's absolutely ridiculous. How anybody still donates here is a mystery to me. I started donating at griffols down in Orem. I walk in and maybe 5-10 minutes I'm sitting down and the people are pretty quick. BioLife may pay a bit more but dudes it's 1000% not worth 2 more hours time for an extra $5-$10. I usually don't leave bad reviews but honestly this company can go burn in hell for all I care. Donation centers are typically busy but this one is ALWAYS busy. Sometimes the wait is very long, at least an hour and half no matter what time you come. However, the staff is friendly and professional. I recommend setting appointments for as early possible to avoid long waits. read more

I worked for a different plasma company for 5 years and have been donating at Biolife off and on since they first opened (I was in the first 100 people to donate at the American Fork location) Things I appreciate about them are the cleanliness and friendliness. Things that I miss from them historically are the childcare center and functioning women's bathroom (literally one of the stalls has been out of order for 2 months now, there are almost never paper towels, and the faucets only sometimes work) Things I actively dislike: the 2+ hour wait. If you go here plan on being there for dearly 3-4 hours. I understand they are busy and they want to collect as much plasma as they can, but they could get the same number of donors in, in the same amount of on the clock man hours if they took fewer donors per hour but opened up the schedule more. Example (because I don't know what they actually do for their scheduling) Instead of 4 donors every 5 minutes 6AM to 8PM a day but having employees be there from 5:30 AM-11:30 PM schedule 7 every 10 minutes from 6AM-10PM. (672 donors in either way) but it would cut back on the wait times. I hope they can figure out the scheduling issues, OR have a cut to the front of the line option if you opt to donate without pay. I donate because I understand the legitimate need for the medications. I would be happy do come donate once a week every week when my health allows me to and twice a week when I'm available without pay IF I didn't have to spend my whole day at the donation center. For all my complaints about wait times, it is still the center I choose to go to because all the centers have long wait times. It's a lot cleaner than most of the other donation centers. It is so convenient for where I live. The staff generally do a good job- I've had a few re-sticks but generally smooth sailing. And the Aurora machines are better than PCS2's I live the display so I can see how much I have donated. I like that the blood bowl is smaller so if red blood cells can't be returned it's a smaller blood loss and less physically taxing. I also love how fast the machine goes on the aurora I'm usually hooked up to the machine for 25 minutes on PCS2s it's closer to 32 minutes. read more

This Rockford facility is new, the staff is fantastic. Bev and Nat are wonderful in preparation in their job. So many people have come to Biolife in a short time that it may take a little longer to get service. In time they will be a 7 day a week facility, they get swamped at the end of the day when everyone come in at the last hour. Between one and four in the afternoon, easy to get a seat. I donated at this location 2x a week every week for over 3-years so I've seen it all here. Overall my experiences were great, and it's not fun getting poked in your arm, or both arms depending on how things go, but the staff always try's to make the experience bearable by talking to you and answering any questions. This location gets a lot of traffic so depending on what time of day you have your appointment you could be here for hours so plan accordingly cause you never truly know how long it's going to take because anything could happen. I no longer donate here because of my last donation I lost a lot of blood (200mL) and it could have been avoided if the phlebotomist had listened to me and stopped my donation when I said something wasn't right but they insisted on continuing so I was deferred and have decided to not return. If I ever need the money again I will definitely return but if it's not a completely necessity then I will avoid this place. read more

After going a few times, I've grown weary of this place. The techs that draw the plasma often do not change their gloves between patients. They go from one patient to the next without changing gloves. They are working with around 5-6 people at a time and don't seem to realize that gloves are also to protect patients. It's gross. They will be putting a needle in somebody's arm and then grabbing the gauze and sticking it on my open injection site with the same gloves. Also, the line just to sit down and donate is usually an hour long. People have to wait outside because there is t a proper waiting area, so they are in the sun for 20-30 minutes waiting to be paged. Then you stand around for 30-40 minutes to get vitals and stuff done, then wait in another line for 20-30 minutes. read more

Alright so just went to check in and spoke to Meghan and was informed I hadn't eaten enough food to begin to donation process. I did inform her of a full meal I ate which included ham, spinach, eggs and cheese, but she stated since I hadn't had any carbs with the meal I wasn't able to donate. It was a pretty big meal followed by orange juice, and V8, well balanced. I also did not see her ask any of these same questions to any one else coming in and there were 8 people ahead of me. While I was there, one of the new people must have made a mistake while bandaging or something because some guy came back in from the parking lot just bleeding all over the place through the bandages. This location is phenomenal! I love how easy and quick the process is. Majority of the employees are very well-trained, occasionally there is a newbie that misses the vein, but that's okay (they learn quick). Since September, I don't know what changed, but it went from being insanely crazy to get through your appointment to calm and quick. I donate 690 mL and and literally in and out in an Hour - and that includes dropping off my kids in the kid care. Speaking of which, I LOVE the free childcare. It is wonderful. However, you have to have to schedule 2 weeks in advance if you want to use the childcare because it fills up quick. Though that is annoying, it is very nice to drop off my kids at a childcare that is not chaotically overrun with children. They limit the numbers so it remains a calm environment for the kids. Early on in my experience here, I never knew what to expect. There would be days where I'd show up and No one would be in line and other days I would have to wait what seemed like 45 minutes in line. All that changed in an instant when they seemed to change some internal policies. While it's a little tougher to get appointments, and you have to be diligent about signing up in advance, I don't have to fear about how long the line will be. It helps me plan my schedule much better. I appreciate the change. read more

Okay. I don't know what is going on with their appointment scheduling system but they are CRAZY overbooking. Wait times are at least an hour (sometimes 2) BEFORE getting to a bed. And before, if you set an early appointment before 7 you were in the clear, but I just went today and THE LINE WAS SO LONG. They are just short on workers, booking too many appointments, and not super efficient with moving the line along. I ended up just leaving and as I left saw that there were still 20 PEOPLE outside waiting in the COLD. Something needs to change. It's great that so many people want to donate but wow. They seriously need to adjust their appointment scheduler because they are always VERY understaffed which means that you'll be waiting in lines 1-2 hours before you can even start donating. Please just limit how many appointments are available and the issue will be resolved!
