The first six times donating plasma it was a fairly simple process. Of course you have to fill out…read morethe annoying questionnaire but that is understandable. Once finished with the questionnaire you have to wait again to get blood draw, weighed, temperature, blood pressure, etc. then wait again... for a card, to go into the 3 different colored sections. The first 6 plasma draws went well. The last 2 plasma draws were a disaster. I have a huge bruise from two weeks ago. Thursday, the phlebotomist wasn't able to get a blood draw. I've always been told that I have really good veins. Thursday, the phlebotomist tried to change the needle into my other arm but I had the card which said only the left arm. Then she tried telling me that she noticed my veins didn't look good. This was a total lie as I've never had a problem with getting blood draws or plasma before. And I saw the nurse prior to being seated in her area.

I came back at 7:30 the next day and was told they were short a person and too busy to come back afternoon. I came back the next day and was told they couldn't get to me for at least an hour. I've been sick for over a week and have been missing a ton of work. I know my body and what works and doesn't work. When you come in feeling miserable and then the doctor makes you feel even more miserable, you wonder what you are paying the doctor for. When I stood my ground and told him I would take the risks associated with the Z-Pak, he walked out like he was angry after he agreed to prescribe it. He wouldn't even look at me. It felt like he thought I had personally attacked him and he responded very immaturely. I won't ever go back to him or let my children go to him either. Someone send him to training for bedside manner skills please.

I like going to the ARC Blood Center because it has the most scheduling times available for…read moredonation. I go on a weekend early in the morning to donate about every 60 days. It is recommended to download the Red Cross app to do your appointment scheduling and fill out your questionnaire. Whole blood donation, takes less than an hour as long as you show up on time and have the Rapid Pass ready. They also have snacks after the donation and depending on the season, little goodies like gift cards or tshirts. Don't know your blood type? You can find out when you become a blood donor! You get your blood pressure and iron level checked at each visit so it's a great way to monitor your health. The review won't be complete without explaining why I donate blood. I am O+ and CMV negative so my donations go to newborns and preemies. I always have to close my eyes and look away when they prick my finger and insert needle but my why is what keeps me going back. The need for blood donations is constant. Once a blood donor, always a life saver! I encourage everyone who is eligible to donate, and those who can't donate to share and support.
