Worst of the worst! This company is completely unethical. We were involved in a car accident in Palo Alto yesterday. The Palo Alto Police department contacted this company to tow our vehicle. The towed the vehicle for Palo Alto to a body shop in Morgan hill. They charge $2196.00 for a 50 mile tow. I told the drive I didn't want to pay that bill since it was outrageous. The driver said he will just impound the car and it would cost even more. They know they have you by the balls. The people in the office are even worse. avoid at all cost!!!!!! read more

I didn't have a choice in towing companies but if I did, I would avoid Bill's for a couple reasons. Unfortunately my car got towed (which was my fault so I take responsibility for the payment), however rather than charging an objective amount (cost per mile driven for example), Bill's charges $5 per minute of tow time. So depending on which driver leads the tow, how fast they choose to move, which route they drive to and from, etc., they have full control of making that cost as high as possible and there is no way for the customer to know the actual time it took. Reason number 2 is time. And this is the big one. It took over an hour (and I was the only customer as it was 8:30pm) to pay and get my car back (... which makes me believe the actual tow process was prolonged as well). It started off relatively quick with checking registration and handing over my keys and payment so I thought I'd be out soon since I was the only one there. But once it got to the actual payment part, it dragged really bad. We were outside because it was after hours but the employee first needed to get a payment tablet inside, then came back out 10 minutes later. He ran the card and then went inside to get a receipt and came back out 10 minutes later. He had a pen but forgot the clipboard to have a flat surface so went back inside (I should've just said I'd use the window as a flat surface). He comes back out 10 minutes later. I think we have the payment done but he says he charged the incorrect amount so back inside he goes to get a new receipt, which you guessed it, took more time than it should have. It felt like Groundhog Day (back in and out and in and out). I will say he did give my nervous dog pets each time he came back out which was nice but it was agonizingly SLOW so I can only imagine when there is more than just one customer how bad it can be. So this review is mostly for those who have a choice in towing companies. I'd recommend going somewhere that values your time more. read more

Sadly, a damsel in distress got scammed today. AAA is looking into this matter. AAA informed me that if the vehicle weighs 14,001 pounds or over, it would be considered a commercial tow and that that bill of $280 per hour would be taken up privately between me and the towing company. If it's 14,000 lbs or below, AAA covers the tow. My Ford Cargo Van E150's GVWR is 7,000 lbs. That's what shows on the side door. See photo. The tow guy showed up, looked at the side door, and immediately told me it would cost $280 per hour, starting from his tow yard, to my mechanic's (which was 6 mi from where vehicle was stuck), and back to his tow yard. He quoted me 2 hrs. I told him my vehicle doesn't weigh any where near 14,001 lbs, with or without cargo. I had wall art and pillows and beddings. He said because there's cargo it works automatically be an out of pocket expense and that I would need to take that up with AAA because he doesn't want to deal with disputes between him and AAA, as he claims AAA won't authorize his reimbursement. Because this is the second tow truck that arrived (the first one that was dispatched wasn't big enough to tow my vehicle to the final destination, so they did what's called a "safe tow", which took the vehicle off the freeway off-ramp to the gas station a couple of hundred feet away) and I had to wait almost an hour for the second tow truck, at that point I didn't want to debate any longer. He hooked up my vehicle and took it to my mechanic. Before he dropped it off his bed, he asked for my credit card and then emailed me the receipt. He took photos of my vehicle with his iPad and submitted them to AAA. I called AAA again. They received the photos and deemed that the vehicle was not a special case so I never should've been charged $560. It's not a commercial vehicle and wouldn't weigh anywhere close to their weight limit. AAA told me to go to their AAA website to complete their reimbursement request form so I can get my money back. They're sending this case to their Member Provider department or whatever they called it. So did my car get towed properly? Yes. No complaints there. But did this towing company advantage of me? Yes, they did. I don't normally complain. I always give people the benefit of the doubt. But my husband said people deserve to know this. All of this happened during Covid-19, when a lot of people have been out of work and income. I had just gotten back to work again. I'm grateful AAA informed me right before the guy arrived. I don't know who to blame: him, his company, or my naïveté. Sad. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! I was in an accident that wasn't my fault and now I had to come in to face two disrespectful and rude male employees that made my first crash one to remember in an even worse way. Thanks to Jay, he told me "what do you expect? for me to hold your phone forever?" when I wasn't even addressing him in conversation. I had a broken hand and a sprained shoulder and he had the audacity to rush us for information even though we waited 20 min infront of their door for help. Another employee was rude to my MOTHER after we didn't bring a card key for our tesla because it doesn't need one, saying, "Now you better know what to do for next time." Driver also manipulated us to drop off our car at the towing yard instead of our house, then charged $922, just for leaving it there :) I know my review won't change anything, but I really hope those who are already in distress from an accident AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. Be ready to lose more money after dealing with their greed. Also, they expect you to do to all the communicating with the insurance company and give you ZERO help and shame you if you don't know. Upon arrival, the tech snapped off two door handles attempting to find door locks which did not exist on the passenger side. Bill's refuses to take responsibility for damages of $200 to repair. You know, if you have to be towed, at least get towed by really nice people. So I parked in a towaway zone. And was out of town. And came back to a hefty fine. Everyone I dealt with at Bill's Towing were nice as can be. The guy who helped me find my registration (apparently necessary for the police to release the car) buried in the glove compartment. The front desk man who fielded my request for a discount with a knowing smile and apology that the city of Palo Alto-- not Bill's Towing-- set the rates. And Bill! The actual Bill of Bill's Towing was kind enough to put on my new California license plates and wipe off all towing related injuries from my car. So if you must make poor choices in the parking arena of life, fingers crossed that Bill's Towing Service is the bunch to house your car. read more

It's pretty crazy when you give a towing service more then 1 star. In this case it's pretty much deserved. I called my insurance company and they had Bills Towing meet me at my house where I had been having battery problems for a while. Up rolls George! The friendliest tow guy I've met. He tried to help me with my battery, but to no avail. I had blown a fuse... lame. George towed me to my local shop, let me ride in a very luxurious tow truck cab (seriously, it was pretty comfy and clean) and even told my mechanic what he thought was wrong with my car. A+ George! Geico sent Bill's to me after I got a flat tire. The original wait time was 45 minutes, which is reasonable for towing. They ended up over an hour late, more than twice the original estimate, and didn't even bother letting me that they'd be late. I had to call them and see what's up and even then, they could not give me an ETA. Use another service. If your auto insurance assigns Bill's to you, you can call them and ask for a different company. read more

Can't say enough good things about Bill's Towing Service. I heard a loud popping sound and then smelled rubber so I pulled to the side of the freeway and called them thinking I had a flat tire. Turns out a plastic part under my car had come loose and was dragging on the freeway. The company helped me get to safety and then wired my car part back to my car. The employee the company sent out was kind, street smart (cars were racing by pretty quickly on the freeway!) and a great problem solver. I hope not to need towing company services for a long time to come but would recommend Bill's Towing if you ever find yourself stuck on the side of the freeway. read more

Our car got stuck near Stanford shopping center and we tried all possible simple solutions, as in faulty battery, overheat, the entire phone book knows what, because we called all our friends in a row. I used Bill's Towing to move a car I had in storage. The driver Samuel was professional, courteous, and friendly. I liked that he carried a factory Porsche tow hook in his truck. I've had other tow guys need to crawl under the car and tie a rope to the suspension arms because they didn't have the right tools. I went to Bill's Towing to recover a vehicle for my late fiancé, who passed recently - and the entire staff was atrociously unprofessional, rude, crude, or socially unacceptable. I'm not sure what their motives were (maybe to keep the vehicle long enough to force it into a lien situation so they could assume ownership?), but they tried EVERYTHING to prevent me from leaving with my fiancé's classic 69' Toyota Landcruiser. They were totally aware that he had passed away, and I was floored by the complete and utter LACK of respect for the sensitivity of these circumstances. While waiting for them to fumble around and deliberately delay - claiming the manager, Ike, was unavailable, I sat in the lobby area listening to an off-duty employee banter with the receptionist about the most inappropriate topics of conversation - cursing loudly with every other idiotic word. Then this "Ike" character comes in like a total prick, talking down to me with the most offensive and even hostile attitude, tone, and body language; takes a look at the legal affidavit the estate attorney had prepared which authorized me to recover the car, and declares that it's not adequate. He demanded a "power of attorney" which doesn't even exist for someone who is deceased. In his ignorance, he then demanded a letter from my fiancé's attorney. Umm...He doesn't HAVE an attorney because has DIED!? Duh!?! Nor did he even have one when he was living - he WAS an attorney! Then Ike proceeded to throw my fiance's death certificate on the counter like it was a piece of garbage saying, "This is nothing to me!" and demanded more and more documentation. Luckily, the estate attorney was finally able to email over all their demands. At the end of it all, it came down to the receptionist contacting the owner, verifying the signatures on the Will matched those on file. Literally TWO HOURS and LOTS of TEARS later, I left with the vehicle. Totally agree with Jekara's review on both points: - total scum of the earth AND... - Ike, driver number 44, should really be punished for how unprofessional he is. His conduct is beyond deplorable. My car was in an accident and towed by this company. The repair shop came to retrieve the car but there was no on-site employee authorized to release my car during normal business hours. The receptionist explained that all the drivers are out clearing illegally parked cars at a farmers market. The repair shop was unable to pick up my car and had to send a second two truck several hours later resulting in additional fees. Gave him my card and he started copying the numbers down including the code on the back. I said I didn't want my card to be copied and to use the phone . From start to finish a pleasant experience. Only waited 30 minutes for a truck after talking to a friendly staff member. Tow driver was also very nice, and handled the tow very well despite it being in a difficult place (underground parking lot with tight corners, low height). Even triple checked to make sure it wasn't something we could fix without going to a mechanic. Tow vehicles were very clean (hitched a ride with the driver) and well equipped. It had been awhile since I had my car properly serviced. This became very apparent when it wouldn't start. I think the battery is shot. Neither of us is very mechanically inclined so Hubby says he's heard of Bill's Towing from his car's service garage and suggests I call them. I'm all for that because even though I have AAA, a recommendation takes a lot of the "iffy" variables out of a tough situation - a little paranoia at certain times is healthy. A no-nonsense call takes place to Bill's Towing with location and conditions described and a truck to be dispatched asap. Ike shows up (early !?) with a big truck and proceeds to quickly and professionally secure and tie down my car for the move to the shop. No cutting corners this time, along with a new battery, my poor car is going to get serviced too. I get a very courteous ride to the garage as well in the air conditioned and spotlessly clean (yay) truck cab! After unhitching my dead car, Ike helped the mechanic push it into the garage. Hmmm...chivalry is not dead. With service like that, if my car ever breaks down again between here and Sacramento, I'm calling Bill's Towing first. read more

Called Bill's Towing because my car wouldn't start; I had assumed it was a starter or ignition problem. The driver from the service arrived 30 minutes after my call and proceeded to test the battery even though I assured him that I had tried to jump the car. Long story short, he was able to save me $15 because was able to jump my car and didn't have to tow to a service station and even diagnosed the battery problem as poor connection (and also told me that the engine was squealing because the belts were a little loose). read more
