He was informative and offered his service to replace it. So thankful that he didn't just come and tow my car to the dealership but helped find a solution for me. The tow ended up running behind, but both the person I spoke to when calling the company and the driver were apologetic about being late. Arthur called me when he was nearby to let me know he'd be by shortly. He was quick with getting my car up and over to where we needed to go. He was able to bring me, my friend, and my dog (we were on our way out to lunch!) in the tow truck and had no issues with my pup. Dead car = Sadness Ed's Tow = Happiness! Yes I found myself in that painful place where "my car won't start and I have no idea what to do." I called my insurance company who then contacted Ed's Tow to come to my rescue. Mel, the driver, was awesome! He arrived promptly and even futilely tried to get my car started. Alas, he could not. But no sooner did he have my car hooked up to his truck and we were on the road down to my auto shop. Even after we dropped my car off at the shop, he offered to give me a ride back to my neighborhood since it was on the way to his next tow. How nice is that? Whoops, I got a flat today! (Stupid bumpy metal curb on Page Mill) Luckily, Toyota provides roadside assistance and immediately sent someone to change my flat for the spare. The guy (I never got his name) who helped me was probably the younger man that other Yelper's have mentioned. He was extremely friendly and professional. He could tell that I was pretty distressed, but he kept the conversation lighthearted and told me that it wasn't a huge deal. He gave me the straight story that my tire wouldn't be easily repaired so I would need to get a new tire, then explained that the place where I had bumped the curb has been a pretty common site where other cars had popped tires in the same manner. All in all, it took maybe 10 minutes to change to the spare, and I actually felt a lot better after the whole thing because of the driver's level of professionalism. Thank goodness these guys were around in my time of need. Tire got messed up and I didn't have a spare. Got stuck in the middle of nowhere in EPA. Ugh. Had a flat tire I tried to change myself -- but the jack collapsed as I was pulling off the flat. At that point, I called AAA -- which was about 90 minutes out. There's an extremely rude man who works for this company. He sent me a photo of my vehicle in a random lot via text. I replied to the text asking him what the purpose of the photo was since its just a photo of my vehicle. Response: "It means it was dropped off where we were told" My reply, "Can you confirm the location and date/time of the drop-off?" No response. He calls me, yells at me, says most people are happy with getting the photo but it sounds like you are not. Stop harassing me. Excuse me? You called me. I would like to give you feedback that receiving a photo with no information is not useful. I asked for his name and he refused to give it. I really hope this was not the owner of the company. The second time, my car would not start and I had intended to have it towed to the dealer again, but the driver said it was just the battery that needs to be replaced. OnStar hooked me up with Ed's, and I am lucky they did. I have not had any car trouble in years, and frankly had no idea what to do. It's a daunting scenario to find yourself 20 miles from home with a car that won't start, and no idea why not. I had two different drivers from Ed's. Day one, OnStar had them send a truck to charge the battery first. The guy was young, and I regret not getting his name because he was very helpful. I asked for a card, and didn't realize until later that there was no name, it was just for Ed's in general. He was only sent to help with a battery, but spent a long time trying to help me figure out what was wrong after the jump didn't work. Day two, OnStar sent them back to tow my car. The driver was different, but also a young guy. His shirt said, Joe. Joe was also very helpful, and tried several theories to get me up and running without having to tow. He ended up towing me to a shop, but I appreciated the effort. At the end of the day, with this type of service, competence is the most important thing, but it is nice to have competence with a good roadside manner, which is what my double experience was with Ed's. read more

It's a pretty safe bet that if you find yourself in a situation wherein your car needs to be towed you are not having a very good day. However, a couple of calls to my insurance company and Ed's folks were on their way to rescue me. The driver arrived within the prescribed 45 minutes and had my car up on the truck and ready to go in no time. He was super friendly and really nice, younger guy, Nick was his name (maybe, I suck at remembering names). He dropped me off at my office, confirmed the address of the shop I wanted my car delivered to and off he went. This did cost me $80, my insurance covers towing up to 15 miles, my mechanic is 26 miles away from where I was so I basically paid $80 to have the car towed 11 additional miles which sucks, but it's not the end of the world, when you're stranded options are limited, at least they were nice and were very upfront about their fees. read more

Yesterday, I stopped in our company parking lot to help the tow operator of Ed's Tow. An intern of ours had a problem with his Volvo, and I helped them pushed the car out of a _steep_ parking spot. During this time, the tow operator not only did not thank me for helping, he barked at me for asking a friendly questions about what might be wrong with the car. After we helped him get the car out of the spot, he further berated me for asking too many questions about what was wrong with the car. A subsequent call to the owner of the business did not elicit an apology whatsoever. This is about the worst Towing company in the Palo Alto, Mountain View area I have ever experienced as a 10 year resident. read more

I work at Ed's for several months in 2019. I quit because they were very dishonest when they we did a tow for the Mountain View police department. Cars that were towed at the request of the police department were charged 5 times the amount to be released from impound by the customer, I.E, $2,000 +. This was just the towing fee no city fees or fines. They were hoping the customer would not pay and they could auction the car and the police would back Ed's up on the scam. read more

Unscrupulous sleazebags - I got hit in Los Altos by a driver who ran a red light - the Los Altos cop asked me if I had AAA, which I did, but the driver who arrived towed my car back to my house, but then proceeded to charge me $100 before he would release the car onto my driveway. The other driver's insurance would be paying it, but this driver and Ed's Tow and Cradle is unethical and should be charged with extortion. I bet he's friend with the dirty cops in Los Altos (this was during Tuck Younis' reign - glad he retire but I wish Tuck was prosecuted for his crimes) read more

They were contacted by my insurance's roadside assistance so I can't speak to prices or phone service. Both drivers were personable and professional. My car had been towed from a public lot (unbeknownst to me, as I thought it had been stolen) and I had to pick it up on a Sunday, spending half my paycheck just to get my car back. There seems to be two thoughts of reviews for Ed's Tow: Good and Horrible; from what I can tell, the people who gave good reviews were serviced by the younger gentleman who was very courteous and helpful. People who gave bad reviews got the foul-mouthed, older bloke who berates customers and seemingly hates his life. Today, I believe I got the short end of the stick with the bloke - and I tell you he lives up to his notoriety. My VW had yet another problem and I needed it to be towed. I called my insurance and they had E'd Tow and Cradle come in and help. The truck driver that arrived was extremely rude - it felt like he was inconvenienced by having to be there on a Friday night. When I tried to explain the problem to him, he would not listen, just saying he is the car guy and not me. He was yelling at me and my boyfriend and made me cry - not something that you need when your car is broken down. I hope the other truck drivers at this company are nicer than this one. This guy needs anger management classes or something. You should never yell at your customers. I have never had such horrible experiences with towing. Well, the company gets 1 star for actually towing the car to the dealership - thank god I did not have to ride to the dealership with that guy. read more
