Installation of the electrical was incomplete. They left a breaker switch out, leaving an open spot in the Electrical Panel. When they mounted the electrical boxes with screws on the outside wall, the screws almost screwed into the wires on the inside of the wall. They did not attach the insulation between the inside studs and used romex staples to secure the plastic vapor barrier to the studs.These are just a few of the incomplete installation items. I had scheduled an appointment for them to come out to correct the problems, and they were a no-show. I then called and the excuse given was that there was no one available that day. I called to schedule a gas line install on November 12, 2018. I booked an install for December 14th. I bought a gas range to be delivered on December 15th. I hadn't received a confirmation call on December 13th so I called them and found out they have nothing on their books and would not do the gas line install. Now, I have no gas line and a very expensive new gas range on it's way. I am so upset by the complete incompetence of the front staff that I would NEVER recommend this company for anything. Our furnace has been working fine, but we wanted to have it serviced. Guy comes out, looks at the furnace and says, there's a crack, on the inside, I have to shut everything down and I won't turn anything back on unless you have at least 3500.00 dollars for a new furnace, which would have to have been rescheduled to put in. but, hmmmmmm. He did take a picture of the "crack." It's a hairline. Why did they shut it down? Possible Co2 leakage. He shut it all down, did no testing for co2 and left. He was nice enough to recommend we get a CO2 sensor. Made the hubby sign a paper so they wouldn't be liable. Not very worried if we are breathing CO2 though. They did no combustion analysis to determine if it had to be shut down or if we could use a sensor to detect CO2 till we could schedule for a new furnace. Soonest we can get someone else out to get second opinion is tomorrow. No heat today. They didn't just shut it down, they disabled it. Thank goodness I don't have kids in the house. Very interesting comments. I have received the same rude treatment and threats. We are building and were promised rebates but they now the story is they only do Avista rebates NOT KOOTENAI ELECTRIC. The install of a new gas furnace and tankless water heater was fine, but when they took out my oil tank they marked up all my interior walls, carpet, and flooring with dark black soot. My entire back cement patio was marked with black soot and all my door jams had black fingerprints on the white paint. I also found 3-4 workers smoking in my garage when I got home a little early from work to check on their progress. The first time they were fantastic! So nice talked us into every bell and whistle with the warranty. Last week, right before the hottest week of the year our ac goes out. We call them up they came two days later. They tells us whats wrong and says he has to wait to hear back about a piece but will call by the end of the day... never called. Next day come around no call. We call and the lady says the piece wont be here for over a week but they will call and schedule. I get it. They dint have the piece what do you do but the communication is awful. Here we are 3 days after the day we should be expecting to call and I cant even get ahold of anyone on the phone and nobody has called. Worst experience. We had a brand new unit installed last month because of the unbearable heat. We patiently waited 2 weeks to get on the books and had everything installed within a day. The AC worked great up until last week. The unit outside completely stopped working... We called on Sunday to get someone to come check it out and the soonest they could get it checked was Wednesday (yesterday). When they came out, I was told there was a manufacturers issue with the unit and they would have to replace a certain part, but that I would be called with an update later that day to let me know if it was available at their shop or if it had to be ordered. Most of the day went by, and I never heard back - so I called in for the update. I was told the part had been ordered, and it should be in the following day and then I would be called to get scheduled for the repair. I waited until this afternoon and still hadn't received a phone call, so I called in. I was told the part still wasn't in and they weren't able to track it for some reason? I can understand shipping being out of their hands, but there seems to be a lack of urgency on getting this repair fixed as far as scheduling or trying to figure out where this part is. We paid a lot of money and waited patiently to have this AC installed, only for it to quit working on us in 4 weeks or less. I understand things like this can happen, but I have also worked in customer service for a long time and would personally be handling this situation differently. I just sold my home and was dealing with all of the inspections And one thing I had to do is have maintenance performed on my furnace So I called Bills heating and told them I needed maintenance I was also in a hurry .They said they can get a tech out there ASAP I told them I won't be there and I will leave the house unlocked. No problem, I called the tech after the inspection,and he said my heat exchanger is cracked and various other problems ,Basically I need a new furnace for 3000.00 dollars, I was totally shocked ( furnace was running great when I was remodeling the house ) I've been a general contractor for 35 years and I'm not a heating specialist but know a little I went back to the home and removed some cover panels and didn't see any problems as a matter a fact It didn't even look like any panels were taken off !!! Had them out when I felt the furnace wasn't working correctly. The furnace was installed 3 years ago and I was told the heat exchanger was cracked. They stated recently they have been replacing a lot of these Trane furnaces (first red flag ). They only wanted to sell me a new furnace. (2nd red flag). Heat exchanger has a warranty on it and it should be completely replaced asked for the Trane Reps phone number with no response from Bills for that. (3rd red flag). Had another heating company out scoped the furnace and wow guess what there is no cracked heat exchanger what I was showed was a small amount of rust from condensation and poor workmanship on how it was put together. The furnace should not need anything for 12-15 years. Avoid using this company. I am going to locate a Trane rep and let them know how they are representing their product. Don't fall for their bull$#%t line that they will try to feed you. Had them do a maintenance service on a furnace. The HVAC guy says I had cracks in my furnace and carbon monoxide was most likely leaking. UMM...Can you legally leave if thats true? The gentleman that came out from TM used to work for them and had nothing good to say either. Apparently the only service they provide is to screw you over and take your money. Bill's heating & air conditioning installed a gas furnace, hot water tank and a new central air unit. They were polite, and appeared professional but did not follow through with obtaining the inspection required. It has now been just shy of 1 1/2 yrs since the installation. They had to do repairs after the 1st inspection (15 months after installation) and it is now 17 months later and still no final inspection. They installed equipment in approx. 41 homes in Chattaroy Valley Estate park and many are still waiting. read more

We moved into our NEW home on February 21, 2020 and were very happy with the finishes. We have a Nest thermostat and it is different than the others we have had so I thought when the house seemed cold it was user error. This morning we woke up to 14 degrees outside and it was freezing in the house. We have the temp set at 64 overnight so it should not be cold inside, but the heater was not running. I realized the problems with cold that we've been experiencing was probably part of what was happening now. We checked breakers and called the builders office and we were told to call Bill's, we are under warranty. We were told the warranty doesn't cover calls on Saturday, even if it is a brand new unit and it's the coldest day of the year. It would cost us $150 for them to walk in the door. We don't know if this is a dangerous situation and I will notify family of our problem just in case. We are retired and on limited income so it's not like we can pay out $$ for repair on a brand new unit or to go stay in a hotel until Monday. I don't know about anyone else but this is not good business and says nothing about the products they are installing, or maybe it does. Since alot of the reviews are hit and miss I will try and be as thorough as positive in my review since I think Yelp is a excellent way to make decisions on whom you will use. I scheduled Bill's to add central AC to my existing central heating system that was installed about 45 years ago. They were great with the estimate and the price was fair and I had great follow up from them. The install was going to happen in Feb during one of the coldest winters in Sandpoint. They should up on time and completed the AC install in about 5 hours. They could not test it since the temperature was too cold outside so they advised to call them in May to schedule the start up. The bill was paid and I was on the schedule for May 2019. They showed up on time but the repairman did not the correct tools since there was a leak at the condenser and all the refrigerant leaked out (poor install ?? not sure ) so then I had to be scheduled again for them to come out and start up the system - I waited a week and they sent out another repairman named Paul - he was awesome (5 stars for Paul) we got it all up and running and stuck around to make sure everything was working as it should. So far so good - So the summary is as follows: Pros - price, scheduling, on-time, nice workers Cons - no permit (when I told them I wanted one), install, repair (this should have been done right the first time) Overall, I think they are Ok just make sure you dot your I's and cross your T's - they should have pulled a permit but the day they arrived to do the install they said oh we dont need one - That's BS they just didnt want to city to be involved since its a lot more work and and oversight of their job read more

Scammers! This company told my mother that if she bought a furnace from them, they would install heating duct to the extension of her home. Once they installed the furnace, they claimed it couldn't be done! Installing the duct is the only reason she agreed to buy the furnace. They didn't want to do the work. But, instead of telling her, they waited until the furnace was installed so she couldn't back out. Now, she has no heat source in the part of her house where she spends all her time. But, they sold another furnace to an unsuspecting senior citizen who doesn't know any better. Good for them! Also, pretty shameful. This company has more bad reviews than good on google and through word of mouth. If you're like me, you read the bad reviews about a company to get an idea of how they operate, not the good. Not all companies are perfect and not all customers leave satisfied. But, taking advantage of an elderly woman to make a sale tells me all I want to know about a company like this. My grandparents have a heating system that wasn't working properly and the house was cold. They called Bills and were met with a friendly service staff member that sent out two technicians. These fellas were so nice and ran through a number of diagnostics. They issued an invoice, received payment and left. The next morning my grandparents woke up and the house was cold again. So they called Bills back and the same two technicians came out to see what was going on. This time they ran through a few more tests and found a small wiring issue and fixed it. They waited for a bit to confirm that the house was good and the unit was functioning properly. My grandparents were expecting another invoice, but the techs told them they weren't going to charge any more than the original invoice. My grandparents were so appreciative. They are older folks on a fixed income and it is so refreshing to find a business that does great work, stands behind their craftsmanship and looks out for people! I give one star because there's no option for a minus score. A realtor used this company to repair an appliance in the kitchen of the house we were buying. We never saw any paperwork. 16 months later after the house being used only a few times, the appliance quit working. After having a service call, the tech asked who serviced it last. That's when we found out it was Bill's. The receipt for the repair was clearly documented as " replaced fuse, all other parts working well. ". We were presented with s fuse wrapped in aluminum foil, which was unable to protect the appliance and melted down the control panel. Thank goodness someone was there or the risk of fire was a reality. Bills admitted to doing it " the cheapest way to sell the house". Bills also refused to repair or take responsibility for the fraudulent repair or false documentation. Steer clear of this company. read more

Sadly Bills was used by our Contractor to install our HVAC, Fireplace, and On Demand Hot Water System. Our troubles started soon after. Holes drilled in our new Hardwood floors before settling on where the actual Heater/AC vents would be placed. They never fixed. They also never put a Air Filter inside the unit. Next they sent us a used floor model Fireplace Unit without notifying us (We Ordered, and Paid for, a New Model), they not only installed it incorrectly (The shut off valve would've been dry walled over if I had not caught it before that stage of construction. They forgot to install certain pieces also, Front Bezel, inside Night Light and most importantly the Fan to blow the Gas Fire out into the room to heat. It only heated the Wall. Unbelievable lack of work ethics and professionalism. The Fireplace unit they sent of course did not match the "Size" on the spec sheet of the "Correct Unit" that should had come, causing us to have to do a major re-frame so the used unit would fit. Now we have a Hot Water System that was installed incorrectly. They used cheap galvanized Water Fittings which of course rusted, needed Brass. They vented the system in the wrong place, which we now have been told by Rennai Hot Water Systems that it voids our Warranty until they fix and take a photo and send back to Rennai. We called and told them there is a Case # now open at Rennai, and they will void the Warranty until they fix and send a Photo of the Fix back to Rennai. We Contacted them over and over with this latest issue, and were promised calls to be returned, and yet no returned calls came. We are now taking them to Court and are making sure nobody else gets screwed by them. We've since have heard so many more horror stories from this Company. Filing with the BBB also. Stay clear of this Business, and if they did work for you, you better have it rechecked by someone else. read more

They actually deserve a negative rating. They WAY underbid the work on our home. The communication in the office is terrible. They promised a walk thru before starting the work but never did it. They made many mistakes and damaged my home, then refused to fix it. Numerous phone calls and arguments later the furnace is 90% done but they refuse to finish it because they are way over the bid amount (their fault). Still left without air register, thermostat, or final inspection from city and now they don't return phone calls again. We were not impressed at all with this company. After everything was said and done, We realized that their tech wasn't here wanting to fix our AC unit but, rather, came with his salesman suit on. We feel as if we were directly lied to, being told that our refrigerant was super low and they stopped production on that type (which truthfully, the R22 is being phased out but there is replacements/alternatives and we were told personally by two people at Bills that they don't believe in or trust the alternatives and, thus, won't do them). And being told that our coils downstairs had pin holes all over them. So, this salesman (trying to disguise as a tech) is pretty much telling us that we need to replace the whole unit outside and need to replace the coils inside. Of course, this is shocking news because no one is prepared to just drop $3-4,000 on something unexpectedly. At this point we figured that since we have to pay to get this done; we might as well try to find the best price we can. Well, this is where we begin to realize the lies Bill's tech was deceiving us with. Come to find out, our refrigerant was not low at all, there were no pinholes in the coils because if there were, we wouldn't be getting any cool air at all according to various techs from other companies (as we still had a tiny bit of cold air coming through). As it turns out, it was an airflow issue which took a little cleaning; and we are back to staying cool. I DO NOT AND WILL NOT REFER ANYONE TO A COMPANY THAT IS GREEDY AND JUST TAKES ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE IN HARD SITUATIONS. NOW I UNDERSTAND HOW THEY GREW SO QUICKLY RECENTLY; I, MEAN, ITS EASY TO DO WHEN YOU'RE TAKING EVERYBODY FOR A FEW THOUSAND DOLLARS WHEN IT COULD JUST BE SIMPLY FIXED. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! They put in our system for our builder. It didn't work right, they said they would come and work on it several times, set up a time and then never showed up. They finally came after we had no heat for 2 days in the dead of winter, and used hammers an chisels to break the ice out of the Heat pump. When they installed the microwave fan combo in the kitchen they messed up the way it was supposed to be installed, drilled large sheet metal screws through the top of the unit damaging it, then bored out the factory mounting so they could drop the bolts in as a decoy , and then hid that they did that and didn't tell anybody!!. We found out when the microwave had problems! We had to hire another Company to fix the HVAC SYSTEM, to get it working right!! I would give them 0 stars if I could!!
