The only reason Bill's Donut Shop did not get 5 stars from me is the appearance and cleanliness of the inside of the shop. It would not take that much effort to spruce up the place. Also, having people drop off clothing donations and piling them up in the customer seating area is not what I would expect in a "sit down" restaurant. Now to the good part. I ordered three dozen assorted donuts to take into work. We typically buy from Milton's Donuts in Middletown, but wanted to give Bill's a try. The donuts were as good as Milton's, and it's much more convenient as it's closer to work. Bill's is also open 24/7. You'll love the donuts. read more

Doughnuts are fresh - and they do have a great following. The doughnuts were tasty for sure - the only negative thing is the cream horn was a spiral doughnut filled with the cream - wasn't what I expected - was looking for the pastry crust. Bookmarked from the Saveur doughnut issue mentioning this as one of the best in the country. I agree.. I really wanted to try the pretzel doughnut but it was sold out!.. next time. Instead I went with sour cream, red velvet and coconut. My favorite was the sour cream (they say I like the ugly ones!).. amazing glazed not too sweet dough. I went with the glogg and that perfected my $3 doughnut stop. Look forward to heading in again! I ended up there on a Sunday morning and I just beat the church crowd... beware that line forms fast! read more

Having a three day weekend to do nothing, I decided I would drive up to Dayton to get my impression of, what I've heard, is the #2 bakery in the United States. When I got out of the car, the smell of donuts hit immediately, which is always a good sign. I got inside and saw a line and 7 different cashiers taking orders. I was shocked to see that these donuts were in such demand. When I got my turn, the woman was nice, but wasn't chatty, so I just got my order and went down to try everything I had. One thing to not about these donuts is that they looked like they had been over fried and didn't have the best presentation about them. That being said, they weren't and tasted fine. The ones that were just ok, that I had, were the sour cream, pretzel, chocolate cake. The sour cream really didn't feel like a good old fashioned donut, the pretzzel was just a slightly gooier pretzel shaped glazed donut, and the chocolate cake was just fine. The caramel glazed cake had the issue of not having a good flavor of caramel on it. What was distinct about it was how flavorful the cake donut was. It was a good donut by itself and it just seemed that the pairing was off without the flavor of the caramel. The blueberry donut & the peanut butter filled chocolate were the ones that stood out. The blueberry donut was soft and had a very distinct blueberry flavor that I devoured quickly. The peanut butter filling was nice & creamy and went well with the chocolate icing. Still, for being the second best donut place in the United States, it wasn't worth the drive. Don't get me wrong, the donuts were good, but they aren't make a trip to go try them good. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped by Bill's at round 2am and I was expecting the store to only have a couple of most popular donuts. From past experience at another 24hr donut shop, they tend to not have many options late at night, but Bill's have many different types of and delicious donuts!! Bill's will always hold a special place in my heart, but I know I'm not alone because they are continually ranked with some of the best donuts in the US... yes, they are that good. I have been spoiled in the donut department after living in Brooklyn (Peter Pan Donuts + Doughnut Plant) and LA (Blue Star Donut + Donut Friend), but Bill's sets the bar with the classics. I've even traveled internationally with these donuts! Back in the pre-pandemic day, the tables seemed to have a light shellacking of sugar. Part of the ambiance is a testament to their sweet treats. The custard filled long johns are always quick to go, but I think the cake donuts are underrated... and then there's the lemon powered sugar, the peanut butter filled, the persians, devil's food - and the list goes on. Let's be honest : there isn't a single donut from Bill's that I won't eat. Once in a while my heart skips a beat when I discover something new in the rotation, like the salted caramel cake donut. I'd love for Bill's to infuse a bit of creativity akin to those on the coasts, but they are a great familiar favorite. Also, 2 dozen donuts for less than $20 is crazy. read more

Let's start by saying I'm a donut lover like for real lover I could eat a dozen easy by myself any time. Bills has always been a go to place for the family. Anytime we got within 20 mins we went. On 3/29/21 at around 5:40 P.M. I was close so of course had to get a dozen doughnuts real quick. 2 chocolate cream filled, 3 peanut butter cream filled, 1 double chocolate, 3 regular glazed and 3 butter glazed. All 12 hard as a rock! All 12 taste old! No way these are anything less then day old!! This trip has ruined my need for Bills doughnuts, and instead of telling everyone how great it is I will tell them to ask for the fresh ones, because obviously you are taking a chance. 12 doughnuts have to go in the trash because they are that bad. absolutely love this place. found out about it when I was in college before Covid and I used to literally travel 45 minutes at 4 o'clock in the morning just to get some donuts. No matter what time of day you go. The staff are always nice and very patient especially because it can be overwhelming with all the different donut and treat options that they have. Came here from modesto calif. which has the 14th best rated donut shop in USA. Mr T's donuts. I don't and can't understand why this place is #2, I got 6 different donuts To try. Each and everyone of them were dry and stale tasting the peanut butter filling was white which was a bizarre odd taste too. This is just a really, really good traditional donut shop. 24/7 opening hours is a big plus. Lots of classic donuts, lots of wood paneling, a lunch counter. I will say that the peanut butter long johns aren't quite peanut buttery enough for me. But the sour cream donut is top notch, and I really want to try the butter twists. I'll be back. read more

A+ for 24 hour service, having 10 people working at noon, huge selection of doughnuts, great personalized service for a newbie, I had to settle for tasting bits of hubby's, but he says best crullers and cream horns EVER.
