I was searching for an honest, reliable, good bike service place since I moved to Vancouver. I found VanCycle through word-of-mouth of a good friend, and finally got mine and my partner's bike serviced by them. I am 100% satisfied and have no qualms recommending this company and Erik, the owner/operator.
DEETs: I have a 20 year old Specialized Hard Rock bike that I ride almost daily. I am terrible about servicing the darn thing. My last service was about 3 yrs ago when I lived in Surrey! Erik picked up my bike, and did a full service/repair on it (cleaned, lubed, adjusted everything, new brakes, cables). In addition, he made a number of suggestions for upgrades. I felt no pressure to accept, but am very glad I did, since I ride daily. (I had old wide, mountain bike tires -changed to road tires, and light weight inner tube), and added front and rear fenders.
He is not inexpensive, but considering the quality of his work and overall experience, I was very happy to pay the fee and find it reasonable. I believe you pay for what you get. Erik takes great pride in his workmanship, and I even get the sense that he worked on the bike for longer than the labour he charged. He also had a used bike rack that he just gave to my partner - he could easily have charged a "used price" for that and we'd have happily paid.
Now, ever time I get onto my bike, I feel like I'm riding a new, much more expensive bike! I can honestly say, my bike has never run this well before! Thanks!
