This shop is right down the street from me. I have read the reviews and it seemed to be a 50/50 split on customer experience. I have had a terrible time dealing with Harley Davidson and was looking to give another shop a chance.
So, I needed to change my tires, and the average cost was about 50-60 bucks per tire if I brought the bike in and had the tires changed. I decided to take the tires off myself and just bring the rims to have the new ones mounted and balanced.
I called before hand and the service representative said, "that M&C could do it for $25 a tire". It was a nice price to keep local business rolling in, I thought. Once I got there, the sales rep. came out to greet me. I told him what I needed done and he started to grab the rims out of my truck. But before he could pull them out I mentioned to him that I was quoted $25 per rim. He sorta looked at me with dismay and then asked, "if I was paying in cash'? I said, "I could roll down the street and get some". He agreed and stated that the tire would be done in about 30 minutes and stated he was trying to hurry as he was going heading to lunch.
The tires are out of my truck and I inform him that the powder coat on my rims can be easily damaged and need a bit more attention when mounting. He looked at me and from what I could tell, acknowledged my concern. But as he's rolling my tires by hand toward the shop he loses control on my front tire and it falls on the rotor side. At this point, I thought I should just take my tires and leave. But it was an avoidable accident, and decided I would just go and get some money and address any damage when i return. It didn't look to be "catastrophic" drop.
When I get back, it appears my tires are done. Pretty fast. I go over to my tires and the new ones are on. But as I inspect to see if the rotor (front tire) took any serious damage I notice the powder coat on the rear has been scuffed up. I tried to make sure to look at my tires before I brought them, and I did exam my rear for sure, but only really glanced at the front. And on a side note, my old tire had a rip on the inside of the edge. The rear was pretty close to done, but it made me wonder what my new tire looks like around the mounting part of the tire....
I bring up the issue with the sales rep. and he examines the tires. And he said, "he didn't notice or look the tire over before the tire change" and began with why it wasn't the shops fault.
He tried to explain to me the powder coat was done cheaply by the previous owner. I told him that these tires come powder coated from the factory. And he told me no they don't. But the reason I brought my rims in is because they weren't so sure about working on my Buell Xb12scg, as they outsource a Harley mechanic and he was not in.
After mentioning to him that I really wanted to find a good local shop I could trust, and even with some negative review on Yelp I still wanted to give them a shot. His attitude started to move toward a "I don't care" mode, but he was never overly rude. And he just shrugged his shoulders and said, "no charge". I told him that wasn't my angle to get something for free, and he said, "I could use the money to get the tires powder coated again". I guess me not paying for the service was his give in. I still offered to pay for service, but he said, "no". As he walked away, he said, "don't forget to grab your old tires" and went into the shop. I just stood there by my tires and thought, really...?
So I grabbed my tires and inspected them even more closely before I left.
Overall I am sure they are capable of good work, but it seems they are inconsistent about the level of service they provide. I'm just glad I didn't bring my bike in, who knows what I would be writing today?
Just for peace of mind I will not return. But your experience may be different. read more
