The bikes are not secure. Had a $4500 bike I thought was safe which was stolen from a Bikelink. I had it parked there for 3 hours in the Berkeley Amtrak. Bikelink's user agreement absolves them of responsibility and they do not have insurance.

lost my card a while back, only used $1...sad. Those secure cages are still all over my stomping ground tho, still recommended.

Ashby BART has 40 of these bike lockers? Does anyone know about what time in the morning lockers run out? Just trying to plan my commute since they're first come first serve. Thanks!

You can almost always find an open locker at Ashby BART. That location gets 60% - 70% full during weekdays. They are most full between 10am and 3pm weekdays during the summer months. Part of the reason there is usually space available is because… Read more

Yes, I have a car but it costs hundreds of dollars to park in the city and traffic sucks balls. So I take public transportation like your typical East Bay commuter. The buses are clean and generally come on time. They also have an app to track the buses but I rarely use it. Most drivers are friendly, however, I've seen one or two grumpy drivers also. There are different schedules for regular hours and commute hours. The buses run less frequently before and after commute hours and some routes are combined. It takes about 15 mins to the BART station from where I live during commute hours. The amount of time would double for regular hours. The service is FREE so it deff helps to reduce my commute cost. I don't think any city in the Bay Area has a similar bus service like Emeryville so I'm pretty happy with where I live. Some unappreciative ppl say it's not free because our taxes pay for it. I say move somewhere else that doesn't have a free bus then so you can be happy there! The takeaway message is don't take things for granted! Thanks Emery Go Around! I only hope you can get better from here.

The minute he arrived, I recognized him from days dealing with R&A cycles in Walnut Creek. I was instantly relieved because I had nothing but great experiences with him when he worked at that shop. However, now that he's freelancing AND mobile, I'm much happier! I knew a few things that needed to be done on my bike but Will identified a few other minor fixes that got my bike back to "as new". He figured out my rear drive-side bearing was shot, the seat post clamp had some grit in it, causing creaks, and the sealant was low in both tires. Awesome! He also serviced my Ceramic Speed bottom bracket, replaced the front chainring, and fixed a warp in the rear rotor. It's fitting that the guy who built my bike when it was new got it back to "as new" again - and the cost was absolutely a deal. In short - having a super-talented, super-nice guy come to your door and take care of your beloved bike(s) is exactly what I need in my busy life. Highly recommended!

I would check the schedule ahead of time, especially during the off season. We went late in the afternoon and were the only ones on the water. Alameda Bicycle on Park Street is a part of the community, and I feel so honored to spend my money here. Gene, George and Crew are unmatched in the Bay Area. They sell mid-price range bikes, so no $300 bikes or $14,000 bikes. I bought my first new bike here after graduating from Cal, and got my first Wall Street bonus, moons ago. It was my dream bike, a black Cannondale, top of the line. After that, got married and had children and Gene saw me through training wheels through teenage years, then sadly through a divorce. Back in a bike and climbing mountains - loving life! Anyway, today, after trying all night to get my chain back on my new e-bike (not possible on the road) I walked in and George was at the door. He sensed my frustration and said, "Come on in." It wasn't an easy fix. But they worked on it, two guys 25 minutes, and 5 tools. Meanwhile, I walked into the showroom to check out the bikes (tee hee hee). Then I noticed a new coffee and tea station with a couch and chairs, and Madeline cookies. It's just what I needed after a frustrating night and morning trying to fix it myself. Such a mindful and kind touch. People easily complain, so positive heartfelt reviews are gold. Alameda Bicycle is a solid community member and business. Honest. If I don't need something, George will say, "You don't need that." Last time, I picked up some gorgeous Ortlieb panniers (which they installed) and a fix-a-flat for on the road flats. I forgot it on the counter -- it was here waiting for me when I returned a few weeks later. They only had my old digits! BTW, I didn't eat the last Madeline cookie. I saved it for you! Come and get it -- and remember to support these incredible bike angels. Super, super Good Vibes. The absolute best Alameda bicycle shop -- to me.

I'm more of an AC passenger if I have to rely on public transportation. Today I was meeting up with a high school classmate of mine for lunch in Berkeley. Ashby BART, 1:00 PM, corner of Martin Luther King Jr Way and Ashby. This station is okay...eerily quiet. I don't know what it is, but I had the "heebie, jeebie" in this station. It seems as though very few people use this station to ride BART to their destination. I usually can find the exit, but I got somewhat twisted in trying to get to the upper level to exit this station. Once I exited to the parking lot, I wasn't sure which direction to head to the meeting corner. I'm glad that my classmate called me to see where I was. Then there was a stranger (and a gentleman at that) who happened to be walking in the parking lot. He was headed in the same direction of my destination. I asked if I could walk along with him. He said okay. I thanked him for helping me out. When my classmate dropped me off, she told me to be careful and vigilant of my surroundings. The return trip on BART to Downtown Oakland from this station was somewhat weird. I had some guy standing about three feet to the left of me talking to himself - about breaking a leg. I did not feel comfortable because there was hardly anybody on the platform but two other people. I believe the next time I meet her for lunch in Berkeley, she can pick me up from the North Berkeley Station, which is a better and cleaner station.
