Well, I can't say much about the actual club inside or how it is, because I couldn't get in. That's not the problem though. Maybe this is my fault for being a noob, but I went on a night that was apparently guest list only. That's fine!! Clubs more than should exercise their right to do that. My problem here is that, I had one bouncer politely tell me to go to the other door to be let in (and I didn't know it was guest list only.) And when I got in line to the other door, I had a bouncer basically yell at me a bunch of times while also talking to the boys in line (?) so I was confused at what he was trying to tell me until he was all like "you! Yeah I'm talking to you! It's guest list only. That's why I let everyone else in, and not you. Respectfully " and I'm like, looking like a total idiot, when he could've just approached me and said "hey girl, it's guest list only, move along." Which makes me really resent this business. Went to Bijou last night because a well renowned DJ was playing and I thought it would be a nice Valentines Day treat. Boy was I wrong. TIckets were $40 which wasn't over the top for such a great DJ, but the tickets said the doors opened at 10 and when I got there, at 10:15, the 9 bouncers at the door didn't seem to care that a bunch of people were standing around trying to get in, except for people who appeared to be friends with them, (girls in 5 inch heels, dripping with fur) who they were letting in by the numbers. Finally got in around 10:30, where the place was still practically empty. REEKING of cologne, it felt like walking into an Abercrombie, which at 23 years old is the last smell on earth I'd like to get a whiff of walking into a club. The service was horrendous, both by bouncers and bartenders. Drinks were obscenely expensive. We got 4 drinks and spent about $60 dollars, not including tips, and one of those drinks was a Diet Coke. There is not enough room for dancing either. Just a huge row of tables that you can't sit at and about 15 middle eastern kids crowded around, yelling and standing up on benches, so you can't even see the DJ we spent our money to see. To add to my miserable experience, the bouncers kept avoiding dealing with this kid who was belligerently falling on top of me (too drunk or on drugs, I believe) as they walked by him a million times until I went over to one of them complaining. They finally tapped him on the shoulder and...did nothing. To solve the problem, I left my great spot up front and moved to the back. The icing on the cake, after moving away from the upright zombie in the front, I moved over to the bar. A girl next to me "taking" a shot launched it over her shoulder and completely covered me with her tequila. I went to the bartender SOAKING wet, and she didn't seem to care at all. Gave me 2 napkins and went back to standing there doing nothing. **UPDATE** I have since gone back and had better experiences, MUCH BETTER. The doormen are friendly, the bartenders are actually paying attention. If the price of drinks were a little lower, I would come here much more often. The crowds changed a lot too, for the better. READ TO AVOID SCAMS So, I normally don't make reviews of clubs but this one HAD to be made. I go to Bijou A LOT, since it's the only place you can listen to decent techno in town. Now today I woke up and checked my credit card and saw that I have been overcharged more than 20$ in TIPS that I NEVER LEFT. It is not the first time they overcharge me the TIP, and it's happening on and on and on and on...Well this is bullshit. Make sure you pay ONLY with cash, by now they probably charged me over hundreds of dollars of tips I never left. Once I left my credit card at the bar after I payed, realized it when I got out of the club, they didn't let me in to get it back and even when I called and left my number they never called me back to give me the card, thank God I blocked it right when I got out, God knows what those wankers would have done with it. My first and only visit to Bijou... I went for my friends birthday, as Mark Knight was the dj that night. It was 6/28/13, and things seemed to be going quite well. We arrived around 10:30 and were escorted to our VIP table. After a couple of drinks, some of my friends wanted to go out for a smoke. We were actually told that we weren't allowed to go outside until 12:30. That's ridiculous! Moving on... Suddenly a couple of fights break out, and some kids bumped into me with a bloody lip and got blood all over my brand new shirt. Then, 2 different girls knocked over our VIP table and the drinks on it. No, these girls were not with us. The place was way too crowded, and I feel there should have been more room at our tiny table. At the end of the night, we explained to the "manager" that our table full of drinks was knocked over. The service was horrible too. So when the bill came back, we asked them to discount the $350 bottle of Kettle One. The manager refused and said too bad. I will never attend Bijou again. You should be all about service. I don't mind spending $350 on a bottle of Kettle One, but I expect impeccable service for that price... read more

The sound system is great..the djs they have are great. The venue is tiny. You will sweat off at least 50 pounds..everyone is disgustingly sweaty. The bartenders are terrible and rude..one of them was sucking on a lollipop the whole time and giving so much attitude for no reason. read more

Worst club in Boston. Bought tickets ahead of time to see one of my favorite DJs and waited in line for 30 minutes while the meatball bouncers let everyone and their cousin in for free. The bald bouncer with the beard checking IDs then proceeded to tell me he couldn't let my friend in because he had too much to drink when in reality we hadn't had anything to drink yet. When I tried asking him what the real issue was he starting to get angry and asked if I wanted to leave as well. I've had a terrible experience at this shitty club every single time I've been. This past weekend, my friends and I were excited to go to this place since we heard Bijou played good music. Prior to attending the venue, I RSVP'd my friend and myself to be on the guestlist through The Premier Events Group from an email I received. When I RSVP'd online, I got an email confirmation through Eventbrite. While my friend and I waited in line, the bouncer asked for my name on the list, found it, and let us in the club. When we got in, that's when things turned left. So if you're on the guestlist, cover is $20 and non-guestlist is $30. My friend and I were about to pay the $20, but when the cashier asked for my name AGAIN, she was not able to find it. She searched and checked through her I-Pad and her hard paper copy, yet was not able to find my name. My friend and I thought this was odd because we did not have any problems with the bouncer. The cashier asked who's guestlist I was on and I told her about the Premier Events Group email and RSVP'd through them. She tried searching again, but since she could not find my name, we had to pay $30. It did not make sense for us to pay $30 if the bouncer saw our name on the guestlist earlier. In addition, there were a couple of girls next to us who also had issues of their names NOT being on the guestlist as well. So it was obvious that there was some miscommunication with the list. Overall, my friend and I decided to go to another club. We were annoyed and disappointed at Bijou. If you are trying to promote the venue, you should be mindful of your customers and not waste their time. Please be organized and update your clientele's information. read more

Bijou is currently in the forever fleeting "it" place in Boston. I went here after a birthday dinner a couple weeks ago at midnight to continue the celebrations. The line outside was pretty long, and I think a lot of people were getting denied and went to the W lounge across the street instead. One of our friends knew the bouncer Cyrus who got us in the VIP line. We had a wait of maybe 10 minutes before getting in. Ambience: Very nicely decorated, very modern decor, but the entire place consisted or two rooms - the main dance floor and an additional bar room. Not a big place at all. A lot of well dressed guys and gorgeous girls prancing around. You get a feeling it's a place to see and be seen. Music: The music selection is very good when we went on a Saturday night. The DJ played a good mix of dance/techno remixed songs. The rooms are small so the music seems very loud, very hard to have any sort of conversation. Service: The cocktail waitresses were attentive... and nice... and hot. Price: Expensive. $30 covers and the drinks were all mixed with Grey Goose as the standard. I don't mind the price, but the area was just too small and didn't provide enough extra "oomph" to warrant a higher price tag. Overall, I like Bijou, but despite the positives I wrote about the place, I just didn't think the price matched what it offered. I am comp'd on the guest list. I drive in the rain and park three blocks away. I show up at 11:58 to the door with three ladies and ask if the list is still open. The bouncer says yes, and to wait a minute. We arrive to the list girl at 12:01 and she informs us the list closed at 12. She actually looked at her phone and said "yeah, but it's 12:01". We're told to pay $120 cover ($30 each) or leave. LOL! New club, but same old garbage. Poor business practice for a new establishment. Disclaimer: You have to go to this place on the right night with the right people or it will probably be miserable. We got table service and our server was very attentive and at times one of the managers would help to make sure that everyone's glasses were full. Initially, we didn't like the first table we were given, so we were moved to another promptly right in front of the DJ. The staff was also really cool about letting us dance on the couches, and be relatively obnoxious. The DJ was reallllly good. I'm not sure if it was just for that night, but I was impressed. It definitely sounded like music I would hear in Miami or Europe. To be honest, though, I can't imagine going to this place without getting table service. I don't understand the few stars for Bijou. I have been coming here for some time now and I love it. It has the best sound in Boston. It can get packed (but so do other clubs). If you are looking for mainstream EDM, this is not the place for you. Go down the road to Royale or Icon. Bijou plays techno and house. The other floor plays hip hop. Cover can vary depending on who the DJ is ($20-$40). You can get yourself on guest list and pay the guest list price which is usually reduced by $10 or $20. They have great resident DJs who are sometimes better than the popular ones. Vinyl Disciples are amazing. The other great thing about Bijou is that it is well air conditioned. You won't be sticky and sweaty next to other clubbers which is a huge plus. Crowd varies when you are here..sometimes good and sometimes bad. Dress code on week nights is more relaxed. Weekend tend to get more dressy. They have coat check as well for like $4 (I think). read more

Let me first start by saying, I have never ordered a table or bottle service from here. It seems a lot of the complaints are because of that. So I have no experience in that. I want to THANK Bijou first of all. The Techno scene in Boston is... well.. almost nonexistent. You have some smaller venues in Cambridge who bring in medium size names, but Bijou is bringing in big names for a city most Techno DJ's tend to pass over. I would be depressed if Bijou ever closed its doors, because there would be a huge hole that I don't think any other clubs would step up to fill in the Techno Scene. So Thank you for bringing these acts (Dubfire, ANNA, Charlotte De Witte, Amelie Lens, Etc). Keep booking them and I will keep coming every single time. Second, I want to point out the bouncers / security at this place. I know it's not the easiest job to deal with drunk people all the time. Every club I am in, I feel like the bouncers are just looking for an excuse to "go after" someone. They love to run after some kid with a Vape like he has a gun or something. I think it's rediculous, and I've been to so many clubs where you just feel 'uneasy' because you have this giant dude staring at you, thinking, "Just give me an excuse... I dare you". I am so happy to say that I have not had the experience with bouncers at this club. I don't drink, and so going to clubs as much as I do... is well... interesting. I can see a lot of questionable behavior 100 percent sober. And it's refreshing that most of these security guys don't treat the audience like they are part of an undercover sting they just can't wait to 'bust'. In fact, there politeness is very welcomed. The last few times I was there, while leaving, the bouncers said "Leaving or going out for a cigarette?" and once I told him I was leaving for good, he said, "Get home safe and thanks for coming". I was kinda shocked to be honest. Most of the other clubs I go to staff isn't friendly. At all. They act like they are there to uncover some evil genius's plot to take over the club or something. So I'm happy the staff here is friendly and caring. If I could pass along any constructive criticism it would be this: 1. I don't know if there is another club below the top floor, but you can feel the lower frequencies vibrate the floor when your on the top floor. It's kinda strange and confusing at times. I would suggest better insulation / sound proofing? 2. I can't stand how there seems to be a team of dudes up on stage with the DJ. I don't know if one dude is the VJ, one guy is doing the Audio engineering or whatever, but it really "takes your out" of the show. It would be much better to see the DJ alone on stage with your VJ and Engineer obscured by some sort of partition, or towards the back of the venue or something. It's just distracting when you see the VJ waving his arms up and taking selfies like we are there to see him. 3. What's up with the whole no taking a break outside until midnight? If that's the city's rule, then I understand, but if it's yours, I would suggest changing that. 4. Drinks are pricey, even for a bottle water, but again, I get it. It's a club in Boston, it's going to be pricey. I didn't think it was that bad. Overall, I am so happy with this place. I don't go to clubs to wear dress shirts and spike my hair with a gallon of gel. I go there to loose myself in the music and hear some great music. I wish the staff here had more manners and were less rude. We went really early one night 10:30 and they let us in to the second floor but we really wanted to go to the 3rd floor since that is where i had been the time before and had an amazing time. I spoke to the bouncers and even the owner and the answer i got back is the 3rd floor is for table service only which is $700 ( when Rumor, Venu other nice clubs in the area charge $300) and to top it off he says even if you wanted it i wouldnt give it to you because every weekend we are sold out by the same group of people. First of all that is BS and second of all if it is even true why would you wnat the same group of people in your club every weekend. Won' t that get boring. The only place around that routinely gets good DJs. They are obviously interested in people who know who Gesaffelstein, The Magician, and Lee Burridge are. If you don't know who the DJ playing is (or you don't care what DJ is playing), it may not be the club for you. There are plenty of other places with mediocre residents who will play Top 40 and Hip Hop dance remixes. As far as Boston clubs go, its a 10/5. I'm sympathetic to people who leave mediocre reviews in comparison to clubs in other cities. I am not sympathetic to people who leave bad reviews because the drinks are expensive (these DJs are EXPENSIVE, its the cost of getting them to come to Boston when the bar closes at 2). Nor am I sympathetic to the fact that they wouldn't let in you because it was too late or you were dressed poorly. Yes the bouncers can be kind of dicks sometimes, but that's basically the job description. The place is typically packed if they have a headlining DJ in the house, and the people who care buy their tickets in advance. Most of the rest of the clubs in Boston (Royale, Venue, Whiskey Saigon, Tunnel, etc.) are like a basement frat party compared to this place. Probably the worst establishment I've ever set foot in. I bought tickets to what I thought was live music (and was not the only one under that impression as I talked to others waiting in line). After being rudely treated by the bouncers, who didnt let us in until 30min after the show 'started' ( we were some of the 1st in line), we were greeted with completely incompetent staff at the ticket window. They almost wouldnt let us in because I didnt have my receipt printed, even as I showed them the confirmation on my phone. After 'managmement' came over and let us in, and we skirted around the apparent prostitutes to make our way up, the place was completely empty. We asked about the live music we paid to see and they told us "what do you mean - A DJ is live music?" Absolutely pathetic. Came in on a Saturday night, it was a hip-hop themed night and seems to be so every Saturday here. Aggressive pat down upon entering the club. Apparently vaporizer pens are such a problem at this club that there is a big sign saying how they are not allowed. Someone asked me what the word "ratchet" meant and it was easy to describe... "Look over there" I would say, "He's ratchet, she's ratchet, oh and so is that girl with her ass hanging out" This bar played good hip hop but the crowd was mixed and drinks were pricey. Disappointing. I had high hope for this club but I was severely let down. The people working there, that I interacted with, were rude and unpleasant. Bijou charge an astounding $40 cover charge and a shot costs roughly $18. It was absurdly expensive for a not so great club. The dance floor is small and is dominated by private tables so guests are left to hang around the the bar. The fire alarm also went off for 30minutes. The club is under bad management. read more

I've been to Bijou about ten times to hear various favorite djs. Things I liked... It's a small place so there's an intimate feel to it. The sound is the best I've heard this side of NYC. The lighting is ok but they have beefed it up recently. The talent! This place consistently books world class djs to play on that wonderful sound system! I mean the music is the whole point right?!? Ok now for what I don't like... The door staff is unprofessional at best. The crowd seems to get worse every time I go. The actual setup of the room is horrible. Tables placed right on the dance floor just taking up space. Plus what is up with the 2am closing time Boston?!? Give us 4am at least lol. This place had promise, my girlfriends told me it was a fun scene with good music. Too bad they forgot to mention it was full of drunk and over-cologned middle eastern college boys who thought they could throw around daddy's money and get what they want. Everywhere you went there was this cheap stench of too much cologne. Somehow through all that we managed to enjoy ourselves in a quiet corner for an hour since the place wasn't very full at all. Our group of 7 also had trouble getting in as some of the other reviewers mentioned. Trust me, this place is not worth going to even when your friend gets an over-priced table, let alone paying 30 cover and being forced to wait in a phantom 'line' out in the cold just so they can make it look popular. Completely disrespectful general manager. My brother and I came here after bijou falsely advertised Nicky jams after party. We came here expecting him to perform or at the least attend, but unfortunately none of that happened. I am a hospitality major at Boston university and my introductory classes taught me more about customer service than this gm knew. When I asked her why the club advertised a performance by Nicky jam and deliver to she responded "we don't do refunds". The situation could have been completely understandable had she responded differently. Coming from a hospitality background, I have expectations in relation to the way customers are treated that this gm simply failed to meet, especially considering we paid $40 for a place that mimics many of the free entry high-end clubs in Boston. All I have to say is call for information and get direct confirmations on upcoming performances before buying tickets to this club, because if you're willing to pay $40 for a night out in Boston there are much better DJs, drink prices and hospitality in other places. I honestly hate giving bad reviews but I wouldn't want someone to be in the same situation my friends and I were in tonight. Management here is shady and shouldn't get away with these false marketing schemes or disrespect of customers. I came on a Wed night specifically for AN21 and Max Vangeli so my experience may be a little different than a regular night. I bought tickets online for about $24 with taxes and fees. Got there around 11 and there was no line to get in. It was very fast and easy. When we first got there there it was pretty empty and no one was on the dance floor. The music was already picking up tho so I just got on the dance floor and it wasn't too long before people slowly moved to the dance floor. After about an hour it started getting pretty packed, but then I think they opened the back area or something and I found more room to dance! I can see how it would be hard to dance when this place got packed since the dance floor had tables on both sides. The people there were all students or young professionals and all friendly. No one was creepy or aggressive and it was just a fun vibe. Everyone there went to dance to the music. Can't wait to see other shows at this venue, but I just wish it was a tad bigger. read more

Save your money. Don't promote a racist place. I was about to go in to check Bijou and talked to the bouncers who said it was nice. I'm still talking to the bouncers when this promoter comes in and says it's a private party. A public club becomes private because a black patron was trying to get in. Now mind you, I'm wearing nice brown shoes with a jacket and nice jeans. Most other people had sneakers. I walked away without an argument with the promoter.
