This used to be are go to for lunch during the week and on weekends. We haven't been able to go in several months... we went tonight and WOW! You would of thought it was a totally different place! We had 3 Fish and Chips dinners. The serving was about 1/2 the past size. The house made dill tarter for the past times has been switched to what tastes like store boughten. Also the mac-cheese which has been so creamy and delicious, is now spiral noodles with a very light covering of faint cheese. Not mention my wine looked to be about a 2oz pour! After all these disappointing issues, our bill comes and we were charged an up charge of $6 for the ma&cheese. Our bill was $86, now I'm not complaining about that. I understand prices are going up BUT I'm complaining about the smaller portions, and bad quality of food! That was so disappointing! We actually left still hungry, when we usually has leftovers. We had a large party on their outdoor patio earlier this Fall, and it was wonderful. We planned the catering prior which was a simple process, and we were given dedicated wait staff for the evening. They did awesome and took great care of us. The food was delicious. Since then, we've been back 3-4 times on Friday evenings for dinner. Can't get enough of their pizza! The service has always been great, too. They don't have that many tables inside, so you do have to wait if they're busy and it isn't nice outside. I also wish they would add a few more restrooms up front. I don't live in Franklin, so I drive ~20 min to get here and still think it's worth it. read more

We have been here for nearly 3 hours. It took well over an hour for them to realize they "lost our ticket". Got our steaks and they are very purple and we are unable to cut them, no salad and my sons meal was cold. Went to Big wood today after Apple Works and was trying to enjoy a lunch with my siblings, who I don't get to see often. First when the host asked how many I had in my party, he said, "Well you're just gonna have to wait. I'm trying to seat 9 other people right now". We finally get seated my meal was completely wrong and had to wait 10 mins before eating since I had to wait for the correct meal. A lot of our food was made incorrectly when we got it. My boyfriend's and my sister's boyfriend's burger were nothing but char. My sisters boyfriend quotes, "it tastes like an ashtray". The server then told him the only thing they could do for him is either remake the same burger or give him a refund, didn't offer to let him chose anything else. So my boyfriend and sister boyfriend did not eat, I believe we all stopped at McDonald's after because we were not please with the quality of the food nor the service. Lastly, our checks were all rang up completely wrong. With all that being said, I am very disappointed in the service I received at was once one of my favorite restaurants, and now I don't believe I'll be returning. read more

This place is great. After I got over the disappointment that they dont have the famed pizza at this location, I sooner realized that they offered a plethora of options. If they smoke it in their smokers it's good! I've had the wings and pork so far and both have been good. The atmosphere is nice with big picture Windows overlooking the golf course. Rumors are circling about getting the pizza at this location. I will be adding a bonus 6 star when that happens. I know yelp won't allow me to out a 6th star, the extra star will be in my heart. I would take a big woods pizza to the front of the titanic so we could pretend we are flying like Jack and Rose did in the movie. Ok, enough about this pizza. I was thrilled when I heard a Big Woods would be coming to Franklin. I was a bit puzzled as to how the rustic, country feel of Big Woods would work at the very nice, Hillview Country Club. Happily I can report that it works very well, with it's success driven by the Big Woods tradition of great food and beverages. For the most part, the food is very similar to other Big Woods with favorites like the pulled pork nachos, bbq, and burgers with a few speciality dishes to cater to the golfers (i.e. the Country Club Club) and monthly dinner specials. As expected, beverages are where Big Woods excels with my brews like my favorite the Six Foot Blonde as well as craft mixed drinks featuring their Hard Truth distilled craft liquors. The interior is lodge-like with carved wood benches in the waiting area, a large central bar, and spacious patios overlooking the well-manicured golf course. Service was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. I am excited to have a work-project that will take me to Franklin many times this fall and winter. I'm ok with that so we order a pizza (Which was not bad), however, we had intentions of some burgers. One of my favorite breweries, we were only in town for 24 hours but this had to make our to do list. Mainly because of their Strawberry Blonde. I've been to their pizza place out in Nashville but was excited to try their restaurant, and it was just as good! The Mac n Cheese was amazing and super creamy and full of flavor. Plus you can add extras in like bacon and jalapeños. I also caved and ordered a "bag of doughnuts" to go which comes with a chocolate dipping sauce. Totally worth it. I frequent the Big Woods in Bloomington and Nashville frequently, but was visiting my boyfriend in Whiteland, so we decided to give this location a try. Definitely not up to the same quality as Bloomington or Nashville. To start, we waited 45 minutes to be seated, which is understandable on a Saturday night. However, it was clear the wait was due to the restaurant being severely understaffed as the hostess was also quite busy busing tables and there were plenty of open tables. After 45 minutes passed, I walked up the the hostess stand to inquire how much longer the wait was. The hostess then apologized and stated she checked on her tablet that she had already seated us, but was so busy busing tables, forgot to actually seat us. We were seated at a large table used for bigger parties, but were happy to just be seated. We then wait over 10 minutes and no one comes to take our drink order or even state, "someone will be right with you". Waiters and waitresses walk by several times without so much as eye contact. Finally, I flag a waitress down to ask who's talking care of us and she states, "I'm not sure". She comes back soon after saying she's not supposed to be our waitress, but she'll take care of us. We order drinks and food all at once since we'd been waiting so long. We wait at least another 30 minutes for our food only for it to be cold! I got the mahi mahi tacos and they were sparse on the fish AND ice cold! My boyfriend got the fried rice and his was mildly warm at best. The bottom line, this is NOT the service I expect or have experienced in the past at Big Woods. Highly disappointing and not worth the over $50 spent. read more

We went to this Big Woods location on October 17th after the Nashville location said there would be an hour and a half wait...boy I wish we had just waited. Although it seemed busy when we showed up to meet our friends at their table...we didn't expect to wait 30 minutes just to put in drink and appetizer orders nor did we expect to wait another 30 minutes to order our food nor did we expect to then wait ANOTHER hour before we were forced to walk out. Never had anyone in our dining party nor anyone else in the small room where we and four other tables were seated experience such terrible (basically nonexistent) service. I understand that it was a Friday night and that it was busy throughout the restaurant but every time I went to ask when our server would come back I would pass tables full of happy customers eating and drinking. It seems our section was largely ignored. I even asked the hostess for an update halfway through the ordeal and never saw her again, nor did we see our waitress again after we asked her for a similar update. The $18 desperation run to Taco Bell after walking out of a restaurant hungry for the first time ever was much faster and, according to other reviews as I can't speak from experience, presumably much tastier. read more

The scenery was beautiful and I love the Oliver wines they had available. At $7 a glass, I was hoping to get more than a 3 oz pour but alas. We ordered a $23 specialty pizza and the truffle parm fries. The fries were decent but the pizza was horrible. It was a big, puffy, bland crust that I would guess came straight from the freezer. There was barely any sauce, cheese, or other toppings on it. There was one chunk of chicken per giant flavorless slice. Was really disappointing and I wish I had gotten something else so that I didn't feel like I just wasted $50 for a meal that would have been better if I got it from the freezer section at the grocery store. Our waitress was sweet but she was also manning the bar solo and didn't have the time to spare to give us the attention needed. I don't fault her for that. Having eaten in the Scotty's before it became a Big Woods I knew how to find the place. It is kind of hidden but worth the drive. Beautiful setting. This restaurant is so much better than the previous one. We have always loved Big Woods because of how different they all are. The food is always very good (Speedway is the best) but Franklin has a great atmosphere. The manager delivers food and cleans up the dishes off of the table! Our bartender Alex? Was very down to Earth and seemed to really enjoy her job. The place was clean. The manager walked us out almost to our car!! It was such a different feel than when it was Scotty's. I'm going to start by saying that this restaurant is a place we have been many times and have generally enjoyed. However, the past few times have been edible, but not great, we chalked it up to them being busy. Today we visited because we happened to be in the Franklin area, and we were hoping we'd have a great experience like our first few times and to celebrate some great news for our business. Our hostess was very accommodating and friendly, our server was also friendly. Our food on this particular visit left much to be desired. Each meal we ordered cost around $16, except our daughter's (ordered from kids' menu). Dinner cost was not outrageous, however I would have liked to at least enjoy eating it and not have to cook once at home. My husband ordered a chicken sandwich because they were out of the steak for the steak salad that he usually orders. The piece of chicken was so small that he actually thought they forgot to put it on the sandwich. So, he opened the bun to check...opened the bun to a piece of chicken that was about the same size as the larger end of a chicken tender. The ends of the bacon on the sandwich were so burnt, you couldn't tell it was bacon, and the cheese on his sandwich was in no way melted. My husband also ordered a side of vegetables instead of fries that it comes with. The vegetables were cold (that was the first thing he took a bite of), and were also such a small amount that we honestly wondered if they had been scraped off of someone else's plate. I had the fish and chips dinner. Two of the three pieces of fish were very over-cooked, one was barely cooked through (still looked translucent). Our daughters chicken fingers and smiley fries were pretty typical, but still over cooked. Her smiley fries were so overdone that there was very little potato left to them. Our server had not come back to check with us after we received our food so we flagged down the hostess and asked her for the manager or our server. Our server did come and saw our food, she also agreed to take my husband's sandwich off our bill. We were disappointed that whatever manager was in charge didn't come to speak with us/or was not aware of what was coming out of his kitchen. Unfortunately, we did not take pictures of our food to prove our complaints. However, we rarely complain about dining service because we have both worked in the service industry and know that there are many factors that go into it. But right before it would've been an hour after we ordered our food, our waitress finally comes by and said our order would be up shortly... it had 'gotten pushed back???" ( People next to us came after us, ordered and ate before we got our order!). So then she asks if we all needed refills or more beers. Uh, yes, what gave you that idea.... our empty glasses?! She was supposed to bring a water instead of a second beer for one of the beer drinkers, to which they never received. Our food arrives, my order, I had specifically asked to leave off the barbecue sauce off the 1/2 nachos.... and there it was... all over it! My daughter had the woodsman flatbread and it had no balsamic glaze on it or the truffle oil, ( which she ordered that because of that coming on it!! We were afraid how long it was going to take to get it back. I can't remember the last time I ate at a restaurant that wasn't fine dining that it took an hour to receive our food.
