Five stars for The View. It's spectacular especially in the warmer months. My husband and I love to come for my date night and sit outside (when it was Scotty's Brewpub). Four stars, that might be a stretch for the food. The first 2 times our food was absolutely delicious. We ordered BBQ and Burgers . The second time the food was just fair. The coleslaw does not have much seasoning so please know that before ordering. I like to add mine on top of my pulled pork. The fries are just your normal steak fries with no extra seasoning. We came and waited 15 minutes at the hostess stand before we went up to a server to ask if there was a hostess. It was the night before Christmas Eve and they were short staffed. Generally a lackluster experience on this evening, 2/13/21. I've been to of Woods perhaps more than any other restaurant. I'm guessing 20 times. This was the first time I've been completely dissatisfied with the pizza. Almost not edible. We had the pulled pork and pineapple pizza. I've had that pizza before and it was awesome. Last night... awful. In addition, I pay close attention to beer and always enjoy a variety of craft beers. I've always found BW beer to be mediocre. Last night I had the QTFO IPA and the blood orange. Both were decent but had some lingering aftertaste that was unpleasant. House salad was awesome. Good serving size with lots of fresh chunky adds. This is definitely our least favorite location of Big Woods. We have gone several times to this spot hoping our experience will be as good as their other spots and the kitchen always seems to be off. This location is inviting and so is the wait staff but as far as the food and beer, it's lacking. Every time we go they are out of all their top seasonal selections and you are usually stuck with the standard year around beers. (How does one sell out of Put a Fork In It at the beginning of October?) However the biggest issue is the food. We typically wait over 45 min for our food and the amount of food you get for the price is just not worth it. Last night we waited at least 50 min for our food to come out and unfortunately my husband's Mac and Cheese was cold while my schnitzel was overcooked and dry. My husband had added chicken and a side of veggies to his Mac and they gave him 3 small slivers of chicken breast and a small bowl of squash and peppers that was more onion than anything. It was just really disappointing for the price you pay and unfortunately we didn't want to bring it up to our waitress because she was sweet & we were too hungry to deal with possibly our food going back to the kitchen. read more

I had a little trouble finding this Gastropub/taproom at first, but once I realized it was on the grounds of the Hillview Country Club, I was able to see the small sign out front and the Big Woods logo hanging from the covered entrance on the roundabout. Simply follow the signs directing you to the country club and you will eventually find it. It has a long and slow winding road back from King Street. (It is easily accessible from the I-65 exit for Franklin.) Having already dined elsewhere, I was there just to see what was new on tap. So, I will have to savor the food on another visit. I sat at the bar and was greeted by a very pleasant and informative bartender. (Big Woods has knowledgeable bartenders at several of their locations.) I am not normally an IPA fan, but since both the new taps were IPA's, I decided to go with the Kemosabe (4.2%, 65 IBU). Much to my surprise, it was a very smooth tasting brew without the smack in the face that other IPA's might have. After the sample, I decided to go with a full glass (they come in different size options.) I have to say that was one of my two favorite IPA's that I have sampled and would not hesitate to try it again. Oh, and one thing that makes this brewpub more appealing was the fantastic view through the barroom windows of the beautiful golf course. Open and green, it gave the bar a classy view, unlike a number of brewpubs/breweries I have been to. Great venue placement. They also have additional space for seating. One room is indoors off the bar. The other is the covered patio to the right of the entrance which lets you enjoy the fresh air on nice days. Very disappointing. We go to Hard Truth and Big Woods down south all the time and this location was not good. We happen to be in Franklin so we stopped for a late lunch around 3pm. There was another couple at the bar and another came and sat down. Not busy at all so you would think the food would be amazing. We ordered the nacho's for an appetizer and they were so over cooked, you couldn't even peel the cheese off from the plate. We then ordered the Maple Bourbon Chicken Sandwich to split and they didn't add the bacon and the bun was hard. I used the bathroom on my way out and it looked like the floors had never been cleaned. The tacos were delicious but a steep price for the size- $12 for mostly lettuce and one small piece of chicken on each. The shrimp tacos were also great and had a decent amount of shrimp on each... I believe 2-3 shrimp per taco! The vibe inside is cozy and inviting and you're lucky if you can get a seat overlooking the golf course. Well this is the second time we have been to the big woods in franklin and been extremely disappointed. They have not picked up the habits of the Nashville big woods that cause them to do sooo good. First off, I love big woods pulled pork nachos and both times they have came out dry and overcooked like it's sitting in the warming window for too long while waiting on the other food in the party to be done. Their service is mediocre. Although this service was a little better than last visit, we all know as servers, a customer shouldn't have to ask for a refill. Went to Big Woods Franklin, for a Friday noon lunch. Have been in the building before, when it was a different restaurant. The inside is pretty much the same. Nice tables and booths with nice view of the golf course for outdoor dining. The restaurant was no very busy, only 2 waiters for both sides of the restaurant including the bartender. You seat yourself and we had to wait at least five minutes for menus and a drink order to be placed. They serve their beers and coke products We ordered the appetizer of pretzels and beer cheese. The app didn't arrive until about a minute before the food. The pretzels and cheese were fresh and tasty, but the portion size for $10 was way too small. I would not recommend ordering it, and I would not get it again. I ordered the tenderloin with fries. It is not your common Hoosier tenderloin. Not as big as expected, pretty dry and the coating wasn't that great. I'd give it a 6 out of 10 for taste and portion size. The fries were crispy and seasoned well. My wife ordered the fish sandwich with fries. She said the fish was cooked well, had good flavor, and she enjoyed the ramelade sauce that was on it. Again the fries were cooked and seasoned well. Our drinks were not refilled as quickly as we prefer, but we like to enjoy our drinks relatively quickly. But for $3 a soda, you expect to get them refilled in a quick fashion. At the end of our meal, it seems like we waited forever to get our bill. Once we got it though the waitress was quick to get it processed. I do not blame her for the staffing situation since she was the bartender as well. Things could have been faster had two managers not been sitting at a table on Facebook, when they could have helped get refills, check on patrons, etc. So based on the above this is why I rate it a 2/5. I had such great expectations based on what I had heard of Big Woods in Nashville. I've been told the pizza there is top notch and was hoping that I'd have the same experience. read more

I have been there twice so far and both times were fantastic. It's a unique setting for a restaurant being on a golf course, but the food and service were exceptional. Our waitress each time was absolutely on it. From beginning to end, drinks and food orders were fast and accurate. They also seemed honest and knowledgeable about their menu. Food wise, we've only sampled a small part of their menu but what we had was great. Their smoked wings were unbelievable. Seriously, I got two orders. So far in Indy, these are the best I've tried. Bartender didn't acknowledge us, took over an HOUR to get our drinks, ordered several apps that never came, food was decent, but took another 45 minutes to split our bill, etc. It was one atrocity after another. Chris (manager) couldn't waive the room rental charge - even though they broke the contract. Couldn't take drinks off the bill (because they can't do that in Indiana apparently - which is a lie). We returned in August for our anniversary, having enjoyed the patio view & food before. We drove 40 minutes to eat there- big mistake. My husband ordered a full rack of ribs, and was served a plate of 6 ribs. We know a full rack of baby backs, & have had them at other Big Woods locations- any rack is more than 6 ribs, so we questioned it and were told that was their full rack. I'm from the northeast, close to Canada and I really appreciated the authentic poutine. I get a little sideways when restaurants put something on the menu calling it poutine when it really is nothing like the original dish! I also appreciated haddock as the fish sourced for both the fish sandwich and fish and chips. I had the fish sandwich and it was light and not greasy in the least. The house made tarter sauce - excellent. They make their salad dressings in house. I enjoyed the blue cheese and my husband the blond ale vinaigrette! We will definitely go back. If I could offer any small critique, the level of professionalism by the servers could be elevated. While our server was very nice, he made us think of a frat boy who had just rolled out of bed after a heavy night of drinking. He was training a new guy and he had a similar demeanor.
